Mountain Dew stories.

Found one. Traded it for a helicopter. Crashed three minutes later. -
Well, supporting BIS is actually not a bad idea. The money sort of does go to Rocket since he works at BIS. Also, assuming this becomes DLC for Arma 3 (just a rumor, but its my guess for the future of DayZ) then you'll be giving money to the company that will be funding the official DayZ development. I'm sure BIS is helping Rocket out a lot since he not only increased sales, but is creating publicity for Arma II and III. That's how I looked at it when I purchased the Chernarous map for my wall the other day.. =P

So how did the zombies happen?
ghost_kage replied to seraosha's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It obviously started in Miami... >.> -
I guess I'm a little bit confused as to what happened. Did the security breach affect the servers for the game, or only the forum?

THE Night is TOO DAMN DARK Thread. Others will be deleted etc.
ghost_kage replied to Slamz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On some servers, its not too bad because the moon is out. Possibly the Dev's could alter it to where the darkness is the same for all servers and balance it out. That way players don't need to spend thirty minutes finding servers where it's day time, or the moon is out, or what ever. I'm sure it's possible for one of the developers to change it to where the moon is always out? Or it's the same brightness regardless etc. I'm sure that if this game goes stand alone or is no longer based on the ArmaII engine, that night time won't be this dark, so I have a feeling they're going to eventually fix it. However, because I find night time so unappealing in DayZ/ArmaII, I actually get some sleep before I have to go to work the next morning... Otherwise I would probably be up all nigt playing DayZ. lol Although, I'm sure its not realistic, I bet the community would welcome the change for gameplay sake. -

My girlfriend says the same thing when she sees my map on my desk with a flashlight next to it.. I don't even know what she would say if she walked in and I had a 1mx1m version of the map on my wall.. lol -
Suggestion: fine tune new zed behaviors
ghost_kage replied to oktyabr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
All of these ideas are great, I've read through pretty much all of your different idea posts, and I have to say, I'm glad your a moderator. You have some really good ideas, and I hope all of them get at least tested at some point. That being said, when you brought up the zombie stamina system, and the other poster talked about players needing a stamina bar, it made me think about a way to implement it. Perhaps, if you are 'Well Fed" or in otherwords, have eaten extra food, you could sprint longer distances? Or at least give some sort of benifits for consuming a decent amount of food. Just an idea. -
Well, here's my two cents. :P Purchase Method: DLC for ARMA3 Reason: The ARMA3 Engine will not only bring the realism everyone is looking for, it will help maintain the current feel the mod has. If it's DLC you still have an oppurtunity to make it into a product as you hope, while still keeping the same type of player base. Any other setup I fear would result in drastic changes to gameplay in hopes of selling more copies, as many others have talked about. Developmental Style: Studio, with slight community input. Reason: Probably the best way of describing the current setup. I think if the mod is continued to be developed and improved on ARMA2:CO, porting all of the finished features to ARMA3 would create the best result. The fact that a thread such as this was made is a step in the right direction I think. As long as rocket remains in charge, I have no doubt the end result will be everything we hoped for. A team will just allow him to get some rest every now and then.. :P Server Design: Community and Studio Servers, or just community. Reason: As long as community servers are regulated and held to a certain standard (just like they are now) then there might as well be both. Kickstarter: Yes.

[Legion] Admins abusing power on Dallas servers.

The second zombie dogs are added, everyone is going to compare this to Resident Evil. I don't think it fits the theme of the mod. Not to mention if animals could be infected, it would contradict us hunting them as we currently do.

Awesome work guys, thanks for the constant updates! :D

I can see why some people are for this, and others are not. I for one, completely support this. If you watch the TV show or have read the comics, in The Walking Dead, you'll notice that the characters appearances slowly change over time. Rick grows a beard, Shane shaves his head, in the comics Andrea receives a scar on her face, Dale loses his leg, and overall the character begin to look more dangerous, hardened, and look like they've been surviving an apocalypse. Could one argue that changing appearance based on acheivements is unrealistic? Yes, but at the same time you could also argue that its unrealistic for everyone to be wearing the same outfit with the only variation being whether or not the shirt is blue or black. I think this would be a welcome addition to the game, and also, you could give players a choice to wear their cool new outfit they have unlocked, I just don't think that things like ghillie suits and SpecOps gear should be in the choices. Everything should look realistic to the setting, or as someone previously posted, it would start to look like Battlefield 3 out there.

This mod is great, and as a result, becoming increasingly popular every day. I know that servers are being added on a regular basis, but as it stands they can't keep up with the demand of players joining the game; at least during the hours when most people play. I don't know if something of this nature is possible, but it would be cool if an auto-join server queue was created, similar to the one built into Valve's Half-Life 2 games and mods, and also Battlefield 2. Basicly when a server is full, you are put in line and join as soon as a player slot is open. I think this would be better than spamming refresh and then clicking on the server as soon as a spot opens, because 9/10 times another person has beat you to it. I searched on google, and I wasn't able to find any utilities, but if there are any please let me know! I'm not as familiar with ARMAII stuff as others. I still think that when the game reaches beta or even official release stages, it would be a cool thing to implement if it's possible. :)

Made a new bandit skin for you guys
ghost_kage replied to Mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Looks great Mojo, definitely an improvement and I think it goes with the theme of the mod more than the original skin used. I know some people don't want the red scarf because they won't be as stealthy, but I think Mojo's explanation was fair. The normal survivors have no camo and stand out, no reason the player killers should have overwhelming advantages. On-top of that it looks pretty damn cool. -
Deathmatch with a side of zombies EDITED FOR IDIOTS
ghost_kage replied to MrShovelFace's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lol, where anywhere in there did I say I want them to completely take out PVP? You missed the whole point of what I said, but then again I couldn't care less. I'm opening up the floor for discussion on changes and improvements that could made to the game in order to balance it out more and make teaming up with players and looting just as rewarding as PVP. The game is in Alpha phase so obviously they have other features planned, if everyone "just dealt with it" as you and many others just love to say whenever people have constructive criticism, there would be no reason to play this. You should be able to enjoy a game without saying to yourself 'Oh boy I better just push through it even though its not any fun." We aren't doing lawn work people, or doing chores, we're playing a video game intended to be fun. -
Deathmatch with a side of zombies EDITED FOR IDIOTS

lol no. It's a lot more difficult now to start out from the beginning. The revolver was better without a doubt. I find the Makarov next to useless. If your being chases and you have to take down multiple zombies, you blow through all your ammo, regardless if it's abundant. Revolver was cooler too. :P Also, me and tons of people have been recently getting hung at "Waiting for server response..." and no matter how long you wait, the server doesn't respond... lol. Hope this means you guys are working on a patch, and not that the server is just down!

3rd person view and other aid’s? discussion .
ghost_kage replied to orbital's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally, I only play on servers that have third person enabled, just because I enjoy being able to see my character do things, and also, the game feels more solid. In my opinion the first person perspective in ARMA II is one of the worst I've ever played. It's choppy, hard to see, and makes me feel like I'm lagging when I'm not. Ontop of that its easy to forget if your crouching or standing up right. I suppose I could go without the crossairs, but I love being able to use third person. We have to remember that although it's a simulation it's also a game, and that in real life we have senses at work, that we don't in a video game. Essentially we are only using sight and sound when playing a video game, but in real life you can feel a difference in the air when someone is sneaking up on you, or when their around the corner. Personally I feel the third person aspect adds even more realism to the game. You can see your character gutting an animal, building a fire, bandaging himself, and helping a teammate. The third person aspect makes me feel like I'm playing a zombie game, and not a zombie mod for ARMA II. I think that right now, the way its set up, is perfect; some servers have third person and crossairs enabled, some do not. I don't think the mod should limit itself to just first person or vice versa, because how it is now, people can play however they want, and its fair for everyone since it is server decided. As long as everyone has the option, I'm sure everyone will be happy, so I don't see the devs ever taking it out. -
I agree with some of your points. I don't like the idea of giving players a goal. The goal here is to survive however long you can. All other missions or objectives are based on that, and therefore player controlled. For example: -Your buddy needs painkillers so you and him are scavenging the houses to get some. -You're out of water, so you need to get to the coast to fill up your canteen. -You have no food, and don't want to risk entering the city so you go hunting. The list goes on and on of possible 'goals', but in the end they all focus on some sort of survival. I do, however agree 100% with you that the PVE aspects need to be added to. I think that if players had more of an incentive to work together and cooperate, then they wouldn't mindlessly kill eachother as often. I don't think anything should be done to the PVP aspect, as its perfect they way it is. The bandit system could either be left in or taken out and it will be okay, however I do think it puts players who are good at defending themselves in a tight spot. Perhaps a grouping or party system where you can't use friendly fire? I know some people would hate the idea, but at the same time I think it would allow more people to work together. If it were implemented they won't have to worry about their new partner shooting em' in the back of the head when their bandaging themselves. While unrealistic I think it would make people more willing to group up, but at the same time it changes the feel of the game. I don't know though... With what the Devs have put out so far, I trust them to make the game better over time. They obviously know what they're doing.

A case for "classic" Zeds
ghost_kage replied to Goose Springsteen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Based on what I've seen from playing, these zombies seem to be the best of both worlds. The infected in 28 Days Later eventually die off as a result of starvation. However, these zombies do not, leading me to believe they do not need food. The zombies in DayZ seem to be a mix of all zombies. When they haven't been alerted they wander around and are slow, just as the zombies do in The Walking Dead or the original Dawn of the Dead. When they have been alerted they sprint towards you just as they do in 28 Days Later, and the remake of Dawn of the Dead. When they crowd around you after you have been killed they continue to eat just like the classic zombies. The only thing I don't like is that if I shoot a zombie in the foot, they die, but I guess thats more of a gameplay mechanic than realism. It makes sense for gameplay, its just not realistic. The one thing I want to see implemented are herds of zombies. I think it would be cool if like groups of 10-15 zombies roamed around together, not just on the roads but also through the wilderness. It's like they heard a shot and are just traveling in the direction. I think adding this could increase the threat of the zombies. Also, I think zombies should hear gunshots from farther away, and then slowly walk toward it, not running until they actually see a survivor. Just some ideas, as they are now though, this is still the best zombie game I've played, hands down. Great work devs! -
lol..

There's another game that I really enjoy called Project Zomboid. When the game first starts up, before you even get a chance to play, the text reads, "These are the end times... The dead walk the earth... This... is how you died." The fact is, you will die, its just a matter of when and how. If you accept that every time you start up DayZ, the game is a lot more fun. What's fun about hiding in the wilderness once you've got the right gear? Yeah its satisfying for thirty minutes, maybe even an hour, but eventually you want to fight some zombies, and you want to play with other people. Is it possible that interacting with others could and ultimately will lead to your demise? Yes. But its not like when you respawn you start with nothing, you have more than enough to get started and continue having fun, and within an hour of playtime you'll most likely be right back where you were gear wise. The PVP element adds a whole new amount of tension and suspense in this game that I haven't found anywhere else. And maybe when that player attempts to kill you and take all of your stuff, you react quick enough and take them down? Now that's fun. Personally, I think the bandit system should be removed, just because it puts players in an awkward position if they happen to be good at defending themselves, and I also think it is an unrealistic aspect of the game. I think it would be cool if we could change our outfits though, and have a little more choice in what we wear, just so that we don't all look the same. And if you get shot in the back by someone you trusted, well you just learned a lesson. When I group up with someone, I always watch them carefully, and generally let them be the 'leader' and be up front. Only people I really trust when I play this are real life friends or people who I've played with before who I know are trust worthy. No matter what the devs do there are always going to be a-holes who want to ruin the game for other people. Nerfing the system that makes this game unique will just drive away people who aren't trying to ruin the game for others. I think that rather then focusing on the PVP element, they should focus on making the non-PVP elements better and more realistic. The advantage of working as a team should be greater than the benifits for just PVPing to "survive". I think the humanity and bandit system is a step in the right direction, I just don't think its an ultimate fix to the problems. The guys who put this mod together are obviously brilliant, so I have faith they know what they're doing, and this mod is only going to get better as time passes. Anyways... that's my two cents. :D

Nice, I love how often we get updates, it means its constantly improving! Great job Devs!
