I've got it. The reason bandits wear military gear!
alleycat replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I disapprove of your COD diss. COD games usually have great storylines -
I would like to have "supernatural" or alien stuff in dayz. stalker has it too.

Without reading any previous posts I give this advice: Download less pr0n (excuse me but the topic title JUST ASKED FOR THIS)

I would like to see water purification being more serious. I assume since there is purification tablets ingame there will be use for them at some point. But how severe will it be? Is water from pumps going to be generally clean or not? Would be quite interesting to extreme and make most water sources less pure so tablets would be a very sought after thing. But I really hope they wont make the screen fade teh colors for sicknesses too because having to play black and white is not fun

I think you are using infected for all things poisonous ingame. Rain water does not have to be infected, it can simply be too sour for safe drinking. And regular infections ingame could be various ilnesses, not a zombie virus

Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
alleycat replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
The problem with PVP frustration is this: It can take a lot of time to get the best gear, a lot of time and running involved. And you can lose all of that instantly. Most players are aware of that. But the game is sort of misleading in a sense that implies it is a survival sim where banditry and carebearing are viable in equal measure (EVE for example has that, because it also has safeguards that add consequence to both ways of playing). But that is not the case in DAYZ, shooting on sight carries most advantages while hesitating to do it almost only carries disadvantages. And new players will hit this frustration wall a few times before they go "screw this Ill shoot on sight just to be safe". Can we leave out the real world accusations of who is sociopathic/empathic because how you play in this game is not something you can use to reflect on a person in real life. The game rules (which are 0% non existing) do not have any safeguards against extreme shoot on sight behaviour. Expecting to get a friendly encounter is as probable as expecting someone on the other team in CSS not shooting you on sight -
I think infected water can mean infected with bacteria, not just the zombie virus/bacteria. And is rain water really that safe to drink?

The game realistically models the not trusting strangers thing. But there is not much modeled that simulates the desire to be with other people. Most people in the world livein some form of social group, and only few people truly can mentally survive being alone all the time. So the game needs some mechanisms that enforce that need to seek out other players. nametags would fix a lot of problems in this part because you could build a reputation for yourself assuming you frequent the same servers often. -
Nothing stops a new player from running there too. I mean you can run to balota right after spawn, no one is stopping you. Besides, DAYZ is for all purposes an MMO and operates on the same things that make other mmos fun: Gathering better loot. And to make you angry even more I will go into more detail: Houses with loot = loot drops, loot chests Airfield = endgame content You silly dayz snobs, always assuming you are bohemian wine tasting artists because you play a game where you have to press a key to manually reload a gun. We are not so different from a WOW player

Yes there is a choice. not locking my stuff because someone else derails it is the only choice. -

No, I dont want my topic to get locked because some people derail it. -
If pumps are always 100% clean then you can throw the whole purification stuff out of the window, because there are so many pumps around you will never have to drink from a dirty source. Perhaps it should be randomized for each server, pumps can by dry for several hours or dirty so not every pump contains water or has drinkable water.

Can we stay on topic? Furtherado makes some nice points and stays on topic, while many people in here spiral into "you suck! no you suck! Your genes are unworthy for survival!" -
Exotic and hard to reach places should spawn loot. For example the large industrial buildings in cherno, or the helicopter wrecks in the forests or basically all he buildings that have hard to reach places. This would encourage exploring a bit mor

Nametags + knowing who killed you would fix shooting on sight. Because it would attach consequences to it. But immersion fundamentalists hate everything that makes sense. -
Zombies should be able to sprint faster than players. Even with the newly added more zombies (bumped into 9 in solnichny) the zombies are never a real threat to your life. They only act as a delay that pushes you out of the area gently. All you need to do when you trip some of them is to run a few 100 meters out and they will get bored chasing you and leave you alone. However it should be "shit I alerted 5 zombies, my life is in danger!" And the only way to get that is to make them faster than players. Because then alerting zombies poses a real threat. The romero religious fanatics can stay out of the topic because in a game where you can easily run several kilometers in any direction and where zombie numbers are severely limited slow zombies can never pose a real threat, because too easy to out run and impossible to get cornered,

Will stealth crawling make a return in the retail version?
alleycat posted a topic in General Discussion
Will stealth crawling make a return in the retail version? If you dont know what that is, in the mod you could stay invisible to zombies while crawling unless you were very close to one and it was facing you (3-5m). This led to super intense situations where players crawled from corner to corner fearing to get spotted. I hope this makes a return, because this was one of the tensest things in the mod, having to crawl through large groups to get loot. -
That post is stupid on so many levels

The game should have motorbikes in large numbers instead of rare cars and horses
alleycat posted a topic in Suggestions
Instead of horses and super rare cars the game should have many low end vehicles that should be very common. Dirtbikes, regular motorbikes etc. Players could get around faster but that is balanced by being noisy. And it would remove a lot of dead time needed to move around. -
klok ti klok tkloketi klok (the sound rifles make when in inventory
alleycat posted a topic in General Discussion
klok ti klok tkloketi klok This is the sound of terror. It is the sound your character makes when moving while carrying a rifle. It is the same awful sound for soldiers in arma2 and it is annoying as hell, especially when you play in first person, because then it is louder. It basically sounds like a horse that is tripped out dancing on cobble stone while carrying a few hundred empty water canteens. Please change that sound. Or at least make it quieter. -
CZ550, Horses, Tasers, Persistent Containers, and more Confirmed by Dean in Stream - video
alleycat replied to TEST_SUBJECT_83's topic in General Discussion
I am not buying the horse thing. (Have not watched the video yet) I simply do not believe they can pull off believable horse riding and besides what is the point of having one? A lone sneaky player already gets shot at on sight and being on a large visible horse will mean every single player in a 1.5km radius will open fire on you instantly. -

can we get a volume slider for equipment sounds? It is mind shatteringly annoying to listen to this empty canteen/horse galopping sound especially when in first person. -
Arma could never handle the large amount like in dead rising 2. Especially not in multiplayer. Unless few zombies will become a real danger like they were in the mod that part of the game is going to suck bad.

There should a drivers license/ID card that is dropped by every dead player and it should list the following things: -Time the player lived. -How many people he killed, from what distance. -How often he was hit by enemies. -How many zombies he killed -Famous last words/Testament* *the paper can be used right now for that but these items are too rare. The advantages would be: -Adds backstory to a corpse you find (or killed yourself) -Can be used as a trophy -Added comedic fun if players write great last words or testament
