Team in game mechanic ( no-shoot option)
dissaifer replied to punisher_1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ha, I was just about to say Sabata already has a post about this... and there's Sabata. -
This isn't going to happen guys. I remember reading a post about this same thing. As I remember, Rocket wouldn't be able to play it if he added it.
-
I don't see a game mechanic here, just an idea. This needs to be rephrased as an actual mechanic or it is just a general topic.
-
It's a waste of time and resources...

Basic (and controversial!) Tweaks. Look inside!
dissaifer replied to Belrick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with making the zombies run in building, but currently this is an Arma 2 issue with pathing and not something the rocket can fix with scripting. if people agree with this you need to go to https://dev-heaven.net/ and insert a ticket. Once the ticket is added, other people need to vote on it. The devs are really good about addressing popular issues. -
Tried the No Gun and Limit Gear start option
dissaifer replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, the first time I did it, and I'm not the first, it was an experiment to see how ruthless the death matching had become. Like, is these guys really going to shoot me if I don't even have a gun? Never really came across any, but I feel like it adds to the game, so ... there you go. "Exactly, if you want to hardcore be hardcore. Don't make those who enjoy the game for what it is." This just seems un-constructive. The game isn't completed so it isn't anything quite yet. Also, go try it first before judging it. You may find you like it. If not come back and report exactly what you didn't like, then we can determine if it should or should not be. -
Five seems reasonable, especially since you can get most of them back.

There are real technical limitations to this suggestion that come into play with this and maybe the zombies have been scaled back temporarily. Anyway, there are other solutions to the same problem... see thread below.
-
I've actually found it pretty useful for sneaking around. If you are sneaking and see you might trigger one, that's the time to use it. Especially in a crowded town. I have to agree about the stacking, that would be nice. And the sights, well, I just aim at the chest at pretty close ranges and that tends to head shot, but it could use a bit of improvement. The retrieve is goofy sometimes, but I just chalk that up to breaking the bolt. Upside is no one is using it, so it is really easy to find ammo.

Friendly survivor system (hard-coded 'friendliness')
dissaifer replied to Sabata (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sabata, trust me I'm not over looking the online mentality. The intent of my suggestion (it's the one called Survival - Let's turn this B$%^h up to 11) is that a single player will have an extremely rough time playing alone. It won't be impossible, just very difficult. I don't expect them to blindly run up to another player and trade. What I do expect is that the possibility of killing or trading be equal. -

Sandy - just saw that post. You know I don't think it would totally become as simple as that, but to be honest, to have the feeling of being lucky hasn't really occurred to me in a game in a while, and maybe this one needs that. logan - ha, didn't even think of that - it really was a flash thought, but that is hilarious... hey, we killed our friend... oooopps. The silent kill tactic would be slick as well, if someone can pull it off. -

dissaifer replied to Sabata (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you think my views are bias that is fine, you're entitled to that. You did provide a good suggestion in there and that is trading. There is an incentive to make players not shoot each other on site. The problem is that there is too much loot, so why would I trade? And that is where my suggestion about making the survival much harder comes into play. If you don't have much of anything and no one else does either, if you find say extra food, you know you don't need, and some guy has a map he doesn't want... then trading is possible. The more people trade the more likely they are to trust each other and we get back to having a non-everyone-KoS community. Too much loot, too easy to get... no need to trade. see... subtle. -

Azure - it doesn't seem to work in fields only on roads... didn't test in buildings. Oh and good luck. -

Ok, I see what you are getting at but the problem is that the mechanic is too heavy handed and a little sloppy (don't get mad, I don't think it's a bad idea - hear me out). You are trying to address the KoS (your words) and community degradation. Commendable. The issue is you are allowing the directly player to control his outward appearance and identify to other players his intend, while also giving instant safety to those identified as friends. Here are the problems, and how they don't exactly met the goals of rocket based on his response in this thread. The goal is to provide players with interesting emotional states and unique experiences. Remember this it is important. - Issue #1 - giving the player to control anything, beyond his actions, goes against any apocalyptic, and therefore, hopelessness feeling the player should have. The intent is to feel like there is no control. Any mechanic that allows that removes the feeling of hopelessness, even something simple like this goes against that goal. - Issue #2 - Changing the character's appearance removes any doubts in other players minds about that player's intent. This actually directly relates to #1. The player sees that other player as friendly and can't be harmed so the fear is removed. When the fear is removed, the player is in control and the game is "safe." - Issue #3 - The safety of not shooting a friendly, with the addition of a cool down between switching. Oddly, enough, this goes back to #1 as well. Safety = bad, but in addition to that, the player is now removed from the involvement of the actual game play and dealing with mechanics of the game... and that breaks immersion, and when immersion is broken no emotional state is created. Now, quick tips. When suggesting new mechanics, the trick is to make them subtle to the player... so subtle in fact that they don't even notice them, but it changes their behavior. -

KasperBS - excellent point and to counter that, I have spent the last week in the following manner. Respawn, throw down gun, throw down ammo. Begin game. This is very different from the standard mode. You have to sneak everywhere, you learn to throw cans to distract zombies (btw, had no idea that actually worked before I did that). You wander into, but generally not to far into a town, get what you need and leave. After a week, a few zombies caught me (through walls, but hey - still alpha, no tears). I restarted today. I've killed 4 Z's 1 shot from a gun, 3 from a crossbow (mostly for fun) and have gotten all the gear I need to basically live in the woods and never visit a town again, plus additional gear for my friends. This falls in the realm of ... too easy. Sorry, forgot my point. New players would have to learn the mechanics and die much like everyone else does. I don't think this would deter them if they are looking for a zombie survival game. Currently it looks like a zombie death match game, which is deterring me from playing it. The difference is, with these mechanics, you are more likely to blame yourself for your death and not others. -

Osirizoan, let it go man... just let it go. How about the rest of it? I didn't make a morphine thread. -

"This is coming from the genius who wants you to die from 2 shots of morphine. You dont even take 2 shots of morphine in this game for a broken leg. Max i ll use it once per character life. " Ummm... no, just because I write something doesn't mean I did it. I was watching a video where a guy did it. The first thought that ran through my head is... you know he'd probably be dead. "this, I can kill a player in several shots while actually killing zombies or clearing a town can take a mag or more. decreasing resources leads to an increase in murder" Yes and no. I didn't say I was solving murder. I said it removes the death matching argument. If someone is going to kill people for stuff that they need I don't see a problem with that. If people are just logging on to shoot someone and not taking gear... then they are death matching. -

Pugs - I like it, change the tables a bit for random anything anywhere. Also, fair enough about the morphine. To points to that though, you were in a controlled environment with professionals, so I doubt they would give you anything close to kill you. Also, does being immune prevent you from ODing on it? -
Friendly survivor system (hard-coded 'friendliness')
dissaifer replied to Sabata (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Didn't read the whole thread, don't need to. You want players to have the ability to cheat the system. So, I can turn on "FF" walk into Cherno, Airfield's towns, being careful of the Z's, get some sweet gear walk out, again avoiding Z's. Turn "FF" off and then begin hunting players who don't have it on? Also, if I shoot at someone and they have it on do I just waste ammo? This doesn't seem thought out. -

And what exactly are you doing now? Killing zombies, probably not. So your a bandit, no, correction, your a death matcher. Calling you a bandit is an insult to actual bandits, at least they have the courtesy to loot my body. I played for 4 hours this morning and have all the gear I want, plus gear for my friends. ... all that is left to do is kill people, sit around, or log off. So please, enlighten me on how this is different? -

Oh man, delicious tears already? Where's my cup? -
Wow, go to the arma 2 website and start submitting models. The modders will use them and that's how you get known. P.S. Do some new zombie models, people are begging for them.
