Under the current patch, the best way to distract Zombies is really to really open up a fucking camp fire or throw a smoke grenade. And neither can be done without having the tools in the first place so...." okay, that sounds like a bug - now, did you report it?

You're better off running past the Zeds, into the building, doing a quick 15 second looting, while running out the back door or back outside, while glitching the Zeds LOS with another building/wall/hill/etc." The LOS is being corrected, but have you ever thrown a soda can in game to distract zombies?
  4. Good thread, sadly not enough people will read it. Anyway, let's start. There are many people with concerns about the current game's patch 1.7.1. Rocket and team are already and may have corrected some of the issues with 1.7.1.1. I was on the boat of pushing for the no weapon respawn and difficultly increase (no food/water/ increase of difficultly). The reason I agreed with this is because after a respawn, I threw my weapons down and began the game. Within 4 hours, the game was over for me. Not that I died, hating playing, or raged quit. It was because I had all the gear I would ever need to never see a town or player again. I could literally survive forever. To me that is too easy, but there was an additional problem in the threads. Banditry was on the rise... and to be honest, if I kept playing I would become one to. This is, in my opinion, inherently bad because bored players would - hunt down new players. Increasing the difficultly, I feel, increasing the game time and provides players with the goal of survival first. I've already seen threads where people are teaming up. This is very different from the pvp I watched streaming one day. I don't think patch 1.7 was fully right either. Zombie LOS is broken and combined with quick memory loss, makes the game easy again.

    That seems bad, you may want to post this in the bug forum. Make sure you put the version Arma 2 and Dayz, the server you were on, and it's version. Time and probably character name so the devs can see it.

Dude, leave. Seriously. I don't normally say that, but you have no idea what you are talking about. Actually, if there is a mod on ... can you please warn or ban this guy?

    About spawning with almost nothing

    Okay now to make the thread more productive. What exactly did you do that got you killed? Was there anything that you could have done differently? If the answer is yes, then you need to go back and do that.

  16. I don't know how you played, but I could easily go into Cherno grab all the loot I needed and more with no threats from any infected. By the time I left, which didn't take long, I would never have go to a town again. 4 hours of gameplay tops... 1 bullet fired, 3 bolts fired (2 for fun). Game over - all that is left is to murder other players, and that gets boring really quick. Go and relearn how to be afraid of the infected.

    ? The models that are being used are from the second or third expansion. People who are playing Dayz with low res textures bought Arma 2 and the stand-alone expansion, Op: Arrowhead. So, you are be playing with models you didn't pay for... how is that ridiculous?

    This is a good point, the hitboxes are smaller, but IRL women have less blood as well. So maybe that is the solution.
  19. First read the first post of this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?...#pid124277 I presented a solution that may correct it, no not the stamina one that is a temporary fix. The memory is wiping too quickly, so I present the memory based on distance solution. An aggroed infected has the target in memory, it seems that turning the corner is causing them to instantly forget. So, based on the distance from the player the longer the memory of the infected. If the infected is right on their tail... they are going to not forget so quickly. If the infected if kinda far away, they forget much faster. This should probably be logarithmic, so the player can run, turn a few corners and the infected forget about them. Sadly, this adds another loop to the infected, but it should probably only be fired off every 3 seconds or so.

    Addressing the 1.7.1 zombie LOS issue

    I thing this can be done with the knowsAbout command, but their seems to be a slight bug with it. The other way to have the shuffling (or not as excited animation) is to store the last known position to the infected... but I the more you start storing the slower things become.
  21. I've been reading for about 2 hours now and there seem to be some issues with the patch. Some are technical issues, so yes... we are still in alpha that is going to happen. - Zombies spawning too fast (rocket is already working on it) The others are player style issues. The patch is to make things harder so you can't waltz right into a town, 20+ zombies, and take whatever you want. For that, I say, try the following things, slow down, go prone, and learn your environment. Edit: You have a flashlight, chemlights, flares, and night vision. So, you either use them or don't play at night. If you want to play at night, those are the options presented. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean the is totally broken. And there is your unofficial PSA.

    Yeah, I know I read the thread and agree. The LOS and memory wipe at the same time is an issue. That is why I suggested to bring back stamina. Stamina is currently off, as far as I can tell, which is probably why we can run forever and never slow down. With stamina on you couldn't run that much the infected would catch you. I realize this isn't the best solution, but it is probably the fastest to implement, there really needs to be a temporary memory based on distance from the target. The closer you are, the longer the infected can remember the target.

    Zombies can't see the flashlight

    This is an arma 2 thing. Oddly, with all the recent flood of tears I thought I was going to read different. I'm not sure if I would want that changed... this requires more thinking and caffeine!!!
