  1. Obviously first person mode is better for firing the gun do you really need to question that? As I said, third is better for exploring and looking around. That doesnt mean one is a winner , i enjoy both modes, its not a competition about which 'look' is better...and if you knew much about third person games you would know the majority zoom you into almost first person view when shooting for precisely these reasons- first person is best for aiming, third person is best for running around / looking at environment.
  2. Im enjoying it but I get frustrated occasionally because the last year it seems I'm constantly waiting for a good game to play , or waiting for alpha's to get finished. Still looking forward to the 'ultimate zombie experience' and I dont think we're there yet. Also, RE CARS...I think they should have just thrown in a couple of DAY Z Mod cars & Bikes-- they are in the coding already- just turn those 'on' whilst they are working in the background on the nice new upgradable vechicles this would have given us all something to do and not be as bored. I don't see why they have to disable those, just because the new ones are going to be better. Well the new zombies are going to be better someday, but we still get along with the old ones. I think mountain bike, motorbike, jeep, and saloon should all be turned on, just the Arma 2 versions/mod versions which are confirmed to be in the code already. When the new ones are done add them in for sure, it just gives the game some momentum in this alpha stage which is a bit boring currently. For people say why what difference the map is too small etc. Well the vechicle gives your teams something to aim for, an end game, also the storage would be persistant, and it stops server hopping as much if you have a vechicle in progress on a server, it means you will want to stick to that server.

    How effective are the notes/paper?

    I try to keep a death note on me with info about medical group and try not to kill on sight I think they should develop a graffiti system , giving we have spray paint and paper in game, you should be able to combine paper and knife to craft a stencil, or spray graffiti freehand a bit like microsoft paint. this would be truely epic in my eyes we could spray red crosses everywhere or things like that. i know rude symbols and swear words might be considered the reason against doing this but at the end of the day its a mature game and people could have pre-set designs if they can't be trusted

    MASSIVE FPS drop in cities.

    mine is more like 50 fps in wilderness and 30-40fps in cities. I have used lots of tweaks like the launch options, restricting max FPS, turned off post processing (I just use FXAA Low) and ambient off..I also changed my view distance to 1800 instead of 3000..i have tried everything to get better..My PC is medium to good (i5 4670K with gtx 660).. so i dont expect 60 all the time, but it would be nice if they could add view distance / object distance to the menus instead of just the config as they have the most difference.... Finally it is different when I load of Chernarus plus in Arma 3..i get a constant 60fps even in cities. So i do not understand it. And yes i know standalone hasn't been optimised, but it is still information relevant to this discussion. Also, don't say About arma not having any objects or loot or zombies. I have played Breaking point and other mods which have Altis map, larger map, plus more zombies and vechicles and still pumping out 60 FPS with better overall textures and graphics. Can't wait for the new engine and 64 bit server if that is going to help this stuff

    mouse settings via cfg?

    their near the bottom of the config file in my docs/ day z other profiles..open it in wordpad then scroll all the way to bottom..you should see sensitevity X and sens Y near the last few lines..change them both to the same value..I am using 0.2 at 1300 dpi and that gives about a 7 inch 360...

    Stop admin killing joiners

    i have to say it took me over an hour last night just to get into a server. The server list is full of password protected servers, and clan servers that have no 'warning' but after you join it they'll kick you straight away. I got kicked from about 10 servers before finding a 'normal' one without this kind of admin. I asked yesterday about official servers and I think thats important, for BI to provide some official servers we can trust without player admins. As Admin ends up getting almost god mode, been able to kick everyone and steal their items etc. I'm scared to join a low pop server incase the admin is right near me and will kick me and take all my items.

No, i prooved third isn't actually used in a shoot-out, its usefulness comes into its own league for exploring, looting (i don't want to loot tiny houses in first person) , looking at your character etc. It is used for visually looking around! First person is the preferred combat view. My point is: Third person view is not used for shooting guns usually,. I know you can hip fire in it, but it would not be used typically...So it doesnt give a huge advantage in 1 vs 1 combat... Third person view is more of a comfortable view point for running around and looting. Depends on your playstyle as well, as I prefer to explore on less popular server, if you are just going to pvp or bandit playstyle, then you might not mind just playing on hardcore, if all you want to do is fight. However I'd rather just run around, look at landscape, loot, kill zombies etc. And third person is best for this style. Also, even with headbob all the way off , there is still a load of head bounce in first person view which is annoying, especially with the new run with gun animation, lots of head bounce in 1st...
  8. lol, no, it means 1st is best for taking your shot, and in a shoot out, everyone will be in first so it wont make a difference...third person is just used for looking around, and usually not for combat. So chill your beans. 1-1

A small thing I wondered is when the new navigation mesh system comes in, will this eventually be compatible with other arma maps like for example Tavania or Altis, that modders might eventually bring to Standalone, will the maps work easily or would the guys have to program all these meshes into their buildings and things.?

    its not reality at all mate, if you had a rucksack and tried to put one of those combat vests into it, it would be bulky and tough to fit inside. It would probably take up the whole rucksack. And then you want to put big items into everyone of those pockets and still put it in the rucksack, i think it should have to be empty to fit inside as it would have to be folded up and squidged in. Same with trousers. however yellow/ medkit/ green ammo boxes should be the only thing allowed to put things into then rucksack it. Anything else I think should have to be empty , this not only is a realism issue, but also balancing issue and helps server lag
  11. everyone goes into 1st person when they ADS Aim down sights anyway, so the issue isn't that bad imo and why are people saying close the thread? Is a friendly debate not allowed?

  13. I dont think it is a 'terrible' idea No, not at all..... just an exploit that spoils some of the experience. By no means game breaking and still I enjoy third person mode despite those problems..Its a game..it doesnt have to be super realistic and no exploits all the time and fair whatever the situation..I like third person view, its improvable, as described could have camera closer, 4th wall just looks immersion breaking and ruins the scene in my opinion...whatever you are entitled to your opinions and i will enjoy both regular/hardcore...
  14. No i said it doesn't make a difference , did you read what I wrote? In fist person mode you would also have the advantage as you could poke your gun just slightly over the corner without revealing your whole body, the guy on the ground already is exposed. Now you are saying a different thing, and i see what you mean, but i stand by my point which you misunderstood. In that situation, it doesn't make much difference, the guy on the roof has a massive advantage in first / third view and there isn't a big difference in that particular situation

That doesn't dispel anything...The guy on the roof always has advantage , whether he's in first person or third person, he has the height advantage (enabling him to poke his weapon over the edge) where as the guy on the ground has full body revealed, now whether that situation was in 1st or 3rd, it wouldnt make much difference.
  16. this is true they could put the camera a bit closer like Gears of War/ Res Evil 4 and the view exploits would reduce massively, also disable zoom out for infantry...

Yes it does increase the field of view greatly. switch between first/third and you will see more to the side/pheripheral sides/behind of your character., How many of you 'hardcore' players are using FOV slider to gain zoom and sh*t? How many of you are inception inventory? Because i never do either FOV Sliding to gain scope, or inception inventory.. There are worse exploits than a view change
  18. well dont say its so unrealistic then, because looking over a wall like that is realistic. The second point works both ways so is moot.-there is no advantage to a third person view, if everyone in the server has access to it.
  19. the wall in that screenshot is so low it just prooves my point. The character could easily grab the wall with his hands and pull his eyes up to see over it.

Good enough has nothing to do with it, my characters are full geared on hard core as well, I often play it but do not prefer it..I prefer a third person view point listen this is not rubbish., in real life your pheripheral vision is 120 degrees and you can see to the sides just flicking your eyes, third person view pulls the camera back giving you that wider view.. Its just a visual preference thing, and what about looking over walls in real life, you can do that easily enough, but the game is not that advanced. I grew up loving resident evil , silent hill, and not call of duty and counterstrike, So I've always like third person games.

    Any good epoch servers left?

    i agree with you though i am posting here to try some of these Epoch servers as there sometimes fun if you want a quick go for action with friends. I really agree about the whole safe zone and trading, I think it undermines the game greatly and I wish you could play with Epoch base building but without the traders, or take away the safe zone, then trader zones would be very dynamic and risky to go to.

    but AK's , Mosins, 7mm ammo is everywhere, I agree with OP reduce everything drastically ASAP and add more crossbows. + NON lethal weaponary... tazers, stun gun, more melee options, power tools, katana's etc

    It is possible future of DayZ?

    to be honest with you, I think it's possible, Arma 3 Has pretty much fixed all those problems on my rig. its really well optimised unlike standalone, the map is larger with more on and still runs far far smoother... Also Arma and Day Z have a lot of configuration user end and things you can change yourself to improve it...

    The airfields at Balota and NW are far superior to NE, what are you talking about? There are tent cities which are THE place to go for Acogs and LRS....There is much much more gear at those two than NE, (NE only has 3 or 4 buildings)...there's never much at NE, because of all the noobs running there...So There is plenty of reason to go West and NW....this is just foolish claims
