    Resenting DayZ

    the game is pretty broken atm. Between some servers empty, and others spawning infinite loot, server hoppers, performance issues, melee bugs, and the thing that gets me the most is PUBLIC servers kicking people, which shouldn't even be enabled. If a server is on public hive, then hosts Should Not be able to kick anyone. If it is private hive then yeah,. but people kicking from public is gamebreaking, cheating, and carries on to be allowed all the time Every single day you can go on the server list and half the public ones are full of farmers who kick.

    I agree 100% with the OP and my friends and community all feel the same. Let's actually talk honestly about the issues instead of brushing them under the carpet with the 'alpha' 'its been worked on' 'read the blogs' 'soon' and other BS answers. Lets talk about the performance. performance is the number 1 issue, along with the terrible melee collision as you described. I just think this far into alpha, and any modern game on PC, alpha or not, should be running at minimum 60 fps. It really isn't too much to demand in this day and age with the technology available. Look at any number of other survival games out there, hate to say it because DAY Z Is my favourite game over all, and i always always defend it. However, So many other games with much less budget, smaller dev teams, and just as challenging engines are running at a smooth 60fps even in early alpha. A few examples from the top of my head are The Forest, H1z1, 7 Days To Die, and others i dont care to mention. All running at 60fps with arguably as much visual fidelity. How long are we going to keep hoping the FPS will ever be fixed, and do we still believe it is even possible.???? Even Arma 3, miles ahead in dev. terms, still doesn't run completely smooth, its generally 60fps, but often drops to 40-60 in towns or on populated servers and most people would describe it as laggy and clunky online. To summarise im loosing the faith. Recent blogs have no concrete answers, they seemed to say ' we hope' to get the game running smooth eventually. The renderer is described as been out between '3 and 6 months' . this time last year we heard a similar story about performance.

    Yeah obviously firing a fire arm in a town or military base is where i envisage the hordes. I have made my thoughts clear on this so many times- i think zombies should be house based- so each house/ building has between 2 and 4 zombies they spawn inside the house as people would..have a few wanderers plus hordes out and about- but majority should spawn inside houses and work their way out. For example a military barrack could have 2 soldier zombies for each room (10-15 total) so when you open a military barrack it should be full of zombies and sh*t you up Firing a gun in a town or barrack should draw all the zombies out of the buildings the reason i say do it like this is it gives a much more realistic number of zombies- rather than sporadic zombies everywhere, you would have zombies to match the population, and areas with more buildings/barracks would be far more dangerous.,. Out in the forests, i would expect just the odd scattering of zombies, although gun shots could draw zombies in from further afield, i imagine a radar type system where the closer to the shot the more 'interested' the zombies would be, and say within 200m would aggro them full out. Different stages of aggro might help eg. interested, tracking, aggro'ed, attacking But mainly, i think spawning zombies in houses and especially military buildings would make the game Much more co-operative and survival based. Currently for the last however long day z Standalone And mod has been a glorified deathmatch Honestly, i can't believe the state of the game currently and rarely bother to put it on. 30fps with new gtx 970 and decent pc is unacceptable, Alpha or not

    The major problem with encouraging team work in DAY Z Which incidently has been the games main problem since release, during the MOD, and surprisingly this far into alpha we are still having the same problem Environment is not challenging enough, not enough zombie AIBuggy melee system means zombies aren't really workingNot enough emphasis on stealth gameplay (gunshots should be almost suicide in most situtations)Until people feel environment>players then we will continue to have the majority of players in the PVP style you describe. its pretty simple-increase the threat considerably from the zombies and environment....

    I think theres still a part of the naming a game 'alpha' that allows the game to be indefinetly unfinished, buggy, and just generally so that it is viewed more favourably. The other worrying thing is they never seem to have any play of When beta, or anywhere near completion will occur

    Fair points guys full agree that the community is hard to please whatever publications you release. Main thing for me and indeed majority of my friends that want to play Day Z is the frame rate and performance. The dev response to the frame rate questions seemed a bit un sure whether they'll even ever be able to get it to run at 60 p.s. really good to see the devs chatting on the forums and utilising communication here at last :)

    was a really good Q And A session. To be honest, I was very dissapointed reading it through. I feel like we were waiting for the same things this time last year. Another 6 months probably for the renderer and any sign of a playable frame rate. Have a decent PC with a new 970 and the performance is just killing the game for me at this stage. Still, its one of my favourite games and hopefully it'll be playable one day. In the mean time we have lots of other great games to play and this year is a good year for PC gaming. Its just stressful when you have alphas that you like and want to do well but the wait for content is so long and the dev's never want to actually just say when their going to do anything firmly., its always wishy-washy dont want to give us too much info etc

    to be honest im all of less loot and harder survival, ive actually been living off apples for a couple weeks since drowning on the way to that island... BUT can we please rebalance the amount of time hydration and energy lasts..its ridiculous...if their going for realism then eating the amount of food and drinking this much would make anyone sick. 2 or 3 bottles and 2 or 3 large pieces of food such last at least a server restart (4) hours in game time if not longer. But we're constantly having to eat /drink large amounts every 15minutes this is killing the game for me personally

    just a small thing but upon logging in my drum mags were gone. I for one appreciate much harder zombies, they are needed to change the game from team deathmatch into a zombie survival game Honestly grateful at this point for finally increasing this danger. Cheers

    Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous

    Looks like a complete rip off. £60 for a server a month is astronomical especially considering the state of the game at this stage! Servers for comparable games are much cheaper. There are only official servers on experimental? what about people who can't afford a server? Surely Bohemia should provide enough servers to allow the people who paid for the game to play online, seeing as its an online only game, some of the game fee should go towards running servers. Other MMO or online only games provide official servers or a combination, however day z expect us to pay for an online only game. pay for a server, and the servers aren't even reasonable prices, they are very expensive. Overall I wouldnt rent one at this stage. I actually thought about this and I've never heard of a company charging for a server for an ALPHA. We are testing the game at this stage servers should be provided.

    the day z standalone development started in August 2012 or there abouts. its been over 2 years developing it. Ok point taken (from this current stage over a year) but you still said 'development on the game has been less than a year' Clearly it has been longer than that. Finally no one commented or updated on those Quarter Goals that Rocket said, that have been reffered to many many times when people ask when additions are coming. I would have expected coming into Beta shortly after christmas to be honest I think majority of people were feeling the same.     Accolate when did development start 2012? It was in development before Alpha even released... It has had over 1 year already. remember videos coming out pre alpha release saying how good standalone would be, how the melee and zombies were fixed and amazing... then it released. Yes i can quite clearly read that it says may take longer than that and could be any number of years What happened to the Quarter Goals? We're in quarter 4 of 2014 by the way. to hicks thanks for replying personally, i have been taking a break from the game, each time i come to try it again I get killed by a hacker through a wall or floor. To everyone in the thread don't get so defensive and quick to jump on someone whos asking a few difficult questions, i am only relaying what all my friends also feel, we are big fans of the game but its taking forever to get to a playable game...to be honest currently its a running simulator/death match with a lot of hackers

    No, no i wouldnt be complaining, the A2 engine vechicles were fine and would have given people something to do. And no, no it wouldnt take any time. the vehicles were in the engine when it launched. Take your own advice please, And Im not bitching, hell no. Unlike some people, Im not going to sit here and Lick peoples arses.I give honest feedback and playing a running simulator for almsot a year is getting boring., especially as we have said they could have added things that were in the engine from A2., as this is indeed the A2 engine. As for the one year quote- that means we should be into beta at just over a year,, we're still alpha, and we're sitll missing many important features. What happened to your Quarter 1 , Quarter 2, Quarter 3 BS Roadmap that got said once and then completely forgot about? What happened to the promised survival features? Its been dragging on a deathmatch for one year almost, and the development HAS been delayed a lot from those Quarter goals and the initial goal of been into BETA at just over the one year mark. Not to mention, the game is full of hackers and BI don't give a sh*t as usual.

All features and plans listed here are subject to change, we may add or remove features as seen fit during development process.[1]" And Bollocks as for vehicles, yes it would have been easy to add arma 2 models, as your engine is arma 2 on launch, you would have been able to add arma 2 jeep/motorbike reletively easily, (ie. they are in the engine, need a couple of animations creating). These models work within this engine (users have done it themselfs. on youtube in DAY Z standalone, and in Arma 3 engine using day z standalone code) So it is reletively easy, i think that is a fair statement. What is harder, is completely redoing all the vehicles and making them modular, which I appreciate, however as I stated, an easier solution would have been slap the Arma 2 models in at launch, work on your new modular vehicles, and then swap over once complete, thats my point. It would have made the slow first year development more appealing to majority of users. thanks for explaining yourself thoroughly though, you always really make an effort with the community.

    hate to say this but truth is, it gets boring walking around an unfinished zombie game that has no real threat from zombies. the world is boring, empty, and not challenging. The zombies are weak, feable, and no threat. A handful of zombies are an annoyance, not a problem. What else is there to do in Day Z standalone? The game is rough, there is not much point , progress or satisfaction on the PVE Survival side of it currently. Therefore 90% of players are going around playing it like a survival deathmatch, I am a friendly player, i don't KOS, but its easy to see the other side of the argument. theres nothing else to do. How much faith in humanity do people have? I don't have much. I've seen what happens in real breakdown of society (looting, robbing, anarchy) etc..Not many people skipping around saying 'friendly' with their hands up.

    could have so easiley just chucked in a couple vechicles from arma 2 engine at release eg. mountain bike, motorbike, and jeep, and then WHEN the new vehicles were finished they would have simply swapped them over. Would have given us something to do over the past 12 months. Don't understand why this not the case. Anyway, if everyone in the community spoke up a bit more and urged them to hurry it might help, rather than everyone just accepting the alpha with no vehicles is going to last another 3-6 months?! you paid your money for the alpha, you are entitled to give feedback, my feedback is please add vechicles before christmas, the game is taking the piss now.

    yeah its really delayed now! Was supposed to be beta this december, no way are they gonna make it. Moving onto other games which have much more rewarding development until DAY Z pulls its trousers up.

    still no confirmation of 0.49 ? we were watching hicks stream the other night and zombies didn't look fixed on the melee
  25. the engine in day z is very old and clunky..Even the 'optimisied' versions of Arma 2 and Arma 3 still run very low FPS on great rigs.. There is a problem with loading too much of the map at once that I don't understand. The textures have dramatic pop in issues. Stand one side of Novo square and look at the Town Hall opposite, at just 100-200m the two sides of the main wall and de textured and blocky while the central piece which is 2metres nearer has its texture popped in..If the game is not even loading the high res textures until you zoom in/move near why is performance so bad in towns? Even Balota (small town with tents) drops me and my mates down to sub 40fps... This isn't really acceptable as we move towards 1080p at 60FPS been the 'standard' for First person shooters. Having the frames drop in towns is game breaking in a competitive shoot out. I don't see how optimising will fix this- even Arma 2 / 3 heavily optimised have the same issue. Towns in this engine kill FPS.
