    Should combat logging be ban-able?

It's all planned, anti-combat logging, anti-server hopping, anti-ghosting, discussing if it should or shouldn't be in is pointless, people like to be a hero and suggest how they think it should be done, even if most have no idea on what is involved in game development and game design specifically, just the way things are. I do agree though, a 10 second timer is way too short, hence my previous post on how I would handle it(or at least what I would try out first): http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/157862-server-hop-ghosting-solution/page-2#entry1585019 Yep, another "hero suggestion", though I actually have a bit of background in game development, not to say my way is great, but its the way I would handle it, banning as a replacement for a game mechanic is not how things should be handled.

    Should combat logging be ban-able?

Not accurate at all, many times I have had people shoot at us first, and as soon as they got disadvantaged(ie, we shoot back), they combat log. Me and 2 other friends were at the balota airfield, moving in from balota I start taking shots, so we try to locate where the shots were coming from, they were coming in from the north behind the tech/police building, so we start moving up, when we got to that building I went off to the right, unfortunately I left myself a bit exposed and got shot and killed, one of my friends was to my right behind some bushes, my friends then ended up killing one of them, but there was 2 more, but as soon as one of them was killed, the others must of combat logged, gave up like a bunch of pussies just because one of their friends got downed. And another time we were logging in to a server and both my friends got killed within seconds of spawning(we were well hidden in bushes and trees), I managed to locate the guy crouch walking near one of my friends bodies, so I pop of several M4 shots at him, then he disappears, clearly combat logged, I searched the area and no one else was around. There is other times where it has been the KoSers combat logging, not the other way around.
  3. While I agree the mouse controls need to be 1:1, the problem(if you'd call it that) is that its taking into account certain characteristics about the character movement, I want to say its something akin to having the backpack and other equipment you're wearing colliding, but I am not sure that is what is going on, but either way, going through doors is clunky with this system. And as I mentioned in my previous post, movement will NOT change if we get a 1:1 mouse ratio, it will just give people like myself a more comfortable and predictable method of looking around, we wont suddenly be sliding around the map like in Counter-Strike, I really don't get why anyone thinks that would happen.
  4. Anyone ever adjust their X sensitivity? It lets you "turn faster", if you were limited by the actual turn speed of your character, this would have no effect, the issue is, X and Y are handled differently, and seems to me to be a system to limit up/down motion so you can keep a stable left/right motion, for aiming purposes, there is also this negative acceleration bug that causes issues with turning as well, if you turn 360 degrees slowly, its fine, but if you try to do that same movement quickly, you'll only end up turning say 45 degrees instead of the intended 360. A 1:1 mouse ratio is not going to turn this into some fast paced counter-strike like game, it is not going to change how your character moves or interacts with the world, I don't even think the existing mouse handling should be removed(apart from the negative acceleration bug being fixed, and being about to disable acceleration), it should be an option, as after playing some 30+ hours of DayZ, I have gotten used to it somewhat, even though it still bugs me, but I would still much prefer a 1:1 mouse ratio. Don't confuse DayZs slow paced nature with the way the mouse handles.
  5. One character per server would also ruin one of the best aspects of DayZ at the same time, the fact you have this one global character, that can be used across any servers on the public hive, if you made it one character per server, you basically have private servers not connected to a hive, I have no desire to play on private servers. And private hives will be coming soon, there you can have your one character per server.
  6. Have you played SA? they don't zig-zag in SA like they do in the mod, I am also pretty sure they run while indoors, they wont run if they are near their target, but the problem currently is most of the builds dont have proper zombie pathing, so they just glitch straight through walls, its why they slow down indoors in the mod, but being a mod they didn't have access to properly implement pathing in buildings, now that they can modify the engine(and implement directly into the engine instead of scripts), they can fix all these issues, while having better performance then a scripted version.

So i got completely geared up!

See my post, there already is one, however, you cannot use that option if your character is considered dead, I have been able to use the history with moderate success though.

What's up with all this KoS complains

Thanks for the video link, though, I wouldn't consider that KoS, there was interaction/deception going on, its banditry, yes, KoS, no.

    Zabytyy Zemli - Contaminated area

Is there even a nuclear power plant in the map? If there is then I am wrong, otherwise, that is why I said it doesn't exactly fit, not saying I don't like the idea of course, just there should be more authentic environmental hazards based on the actual chernarus map we have in SA. ...In fact, what kind of ship was the one that they put in? It could have been transporting something that would make this viable to do...
  10. Problem with this? This won't solve the server hopping issue, or ghosting issue, server hoppers will just log off, then back out and run to the loot spawns again, it'll just take a bit longer, it'll in no way prevent it. As for ghosting, ghosting is to move from where you were seen and being a target, to being somewhere else, you wouldn't even need to log on another server with this, you just log off then back on, then run to where you know they were, the best they can do is "expect it", just as you "expect" ghosting right now. Doesn't solve either issue.

    server hop ghosting SOLUTION!!!

Problems: What if you log off with friends? Trying to join a server with a lot of people, can't join simply because you happen to be in range of someone else? OR whats worse, you get the message, so you join another server, run in some direction for a bit, then log back into the other server, you KNOW there is another player nearby, that player doesn't know you're coming, even if you still have to actually locate where he is. Not a suitable suggestion, many flaws, I applaud the effort however. There is 3 main problems with logging right now: Combat Logging Ghosting Server Hopping Combat logging is fairly straight forward, if you're considered in combat(proximity to players is not "in combat"), the simplest and potentially the best way is to have a hard limit of say, 1 minute, as soon as you are no longer considered "in combat", the timer will count down, obviously resetting if that changes, during that time, your character is forced to be locked to that server, even if you log off normally or alt+f4 or get disconnected, your character will remain where they were when it happened, and you cannot join any other server during that time(you can rejoin the one you were on however). If your character dies, you become unlocked and can then rejoin any server, but obviously as a fresh spawn, this will resolve the combat logging and prevent item duping(from being able to log in to another server and having someone kill and loot you on the old server). Ghosting is also fairly easy, even though the solution to combat logging above can somewhat limit this, to entirely eliminate ghosting, we can just add a 15min or whatever timer once you leave a server, if you join another server during that time, you will be locked out from rejoining that server for the duration, so not only do you risk getting killed by the combat logging mechanic, and have to wait a minute before joining any other server anyway, you also have a 15 minute time to prevent you ghosting, and if the other player is still around after that 15 minutes, then they probably deserve to be killed. Server hopping a more complicated task, but I think the idea of having a multiplying timer each time you join a new server is a good idea, 1 hop - no timer, 2 hops - 60 seconds, 3 hops - 120 seconds, 4 hops - 240 seconds. The time you start with and the time you multiply by(60 and by 2 in this example) can be tweaked.

    Can't find "Mosin"?

Loot respawn not being in is not exactly for performance reasons, it's just not implemented yet, as are a LOT of things, however, performance is always a concern, this is an alpha, it's not fully optimized yet, and loot respawning is not a simple task like some people think it is, it's not: Has been looted? Yes -> Respawn in 15 minutes No -> Sleep There is way more complexity involved, and there needs to be. Remember, this is SERVER performance, NOT CLIENT performance, servers had to be pretty beastly to handle the arma2 mod, and most of the mod was done client side(loot respawns, zombies etc), the server was mostly just an in-between for the information, however in SA, pretty much everything is handled by the server, loot, zombies etc, so it puts a hell of a lot more strain on the server then the mod did, this is why they optimize.

Some things I would like to see...

    1. More zombies will come, at the moment zombies don't respawn, which means if you see a lack of zombies, it means someone has already been through and killed them, and due to needing more optimization, they have to limit the number of zombies spawning, but as they optimize and add respawning, you will see more and more zombies, this is already something planned. 2. They have a compass already 3. There is lootable maps already, you find them in fragments, both compasses and map fragments are kind of rare right now however, so I am not surprised you don't know about them. Edit: Marking maps with pens would be good, and potentially already planned(they already have pens and paper in game after all), I would also point out this site especially if you're new to chernarus, or even if you're a veteran, as it shows all the updated locations as well, more useful if you have a second monitor or you bring the map up on a tablet however. 4. Again, already planned for the future 5. This would be nice, more realistic flashlights, keep in mind however they will have things like chem lights and flares in the future that you can carry around, and possibly others as well, there is also gas lanterns already in the game, though I don't think they work at the moment, and not sure if you'll be able to carry those around 6. The doors are an issue, though a minor one, I am not sure if this will ever change due to how the engine works, but for now, just stand back when opening doors, at least its not like in the mod where you could end up with broken bones from a fence gate swinging open into your character. 7. In the mod there was barrel fires and such around cherno and other places, I am sure stuff like this will get added in the future. 8. Sleeping I have no idea about, the only way this would make sense is for some kind of log off mechanic, but even then I don't know how it would work, a lay down animation like F3 for sitting would be good however(and yes I know you can prone, but you can't lay on your side or back) 9. This might be a feature, but obviously only for one handed things like...well, I don't know actually, all melee weapons seem to use both hands for swinging, Rocket mentioned something about it in regards to holding a flashlight above your pistol, but due to the way DayZ SA handles held items it would be rather time consuming and complicated to implement, however, he did say they wanted to do it at some point(not confirmed, but a possibility) 10. You do get hit markers when you hit things with melee, its actually pretty fluid, especially compared to the mod, it is based on the swing of your weapon, and you hit whatever your weapon hits, though due to the temporary animations for axe's and the likes, its a bit more clunky at the moment, the axe seems to swing from top left to bottom right of your screen if you don't have it "ready", but for the most part you will usually hit the zombie more if its to the left of the center of your screen while holding an axe, try hitting space and trying melee in each stance with the weapon you have, use what feels better to you. If it takes awhile for it to register hits, its just lag and there is nothing that can be done.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

I think the point trying to be made is, right now, combat logging is something the game allows, its not "breaking the rules" of the game, because there is no rules against it yet. Yes, its a dick move, and yes, people are pussies for doing it, but right now, its "valid", ONLY because the game allows it, just as the game allows KoS, however, unlike KoS, combat logging WILL be removed in the future, and THEN, it will become an exploit if you can get around the protection and combat log. I have never combat logged, and never intend to combat log, why? if its "not breaking the rules" like I stated? Because I am not a pussy, I don't resort to cheap tricks, and while I have KoS, it's only been against people with guns, people being dicks, or people who are about to get guns(ie, inside a place that spawns guns), its the risk you take to get those guns. And secondly, since I know they will eventually fix combat logging, I am ensuring I am used to not being able to log off instantly, because the people combat logging now, are going to be hit by a brick wall once its added.

So i got completely geared up!

If you simply click "play", you will join the last server you were on, provided you didn't log off dead. And yes, this is likely a non-whitelisted server problem, they aren't connected to the public hive, so the gear obtained on it won't be saved, this can be fixed by not showing non-whitelisted servers in the server list, or at least adding some kind of server flags you can filter for, I assume that kind of stuff is still to come though.

    PvP slider

There is no way to determine "rate of encounters" in DayZ, if 2 players head to the same place on the same server, they will see each other, there is no way for any way this could work without a complete rewrite, and it won't even be attempted as its not that kind of game. Edit: Matchmaking isn't suitable for DayZ, as this isn't a PvP game, its a survival game set in a zombie apocalypse, that allows unrestricted player interaction(so yes, PvP exists), it'd be silly to "matchmake". Though, just thinking about some kind of "quick play" button, that is feasible, and would choose a decent ping server to put you on, if such a thing was implemented, there might be an option for low/high/don't care population servers, in which if you select low as your preference, itll find the lowest population server with a decent ping and put you on it, now "lowest population" might still end up being 30 people during busy times, the only way to get around this would be to manually go and find a low population server, which is the current way you connect to a server anyway.

    Mosin with Long Range Scope

I have to wonder how you guys are sighting your shots with a scoped mosin at that range? Or have they fixed the bolt animation after each shot that caused your sights to look at the ground missing the chance to see where your shots land?

What's up with all this KoS complains

Sad fact is KoS wont be going away until more things have been implemented, and even then it will only be reduced, it won't ever go away as some people still treat this as some kind of more complicated CoD, plus it's on the internet, get used to trolls/asshats, it's just the way things are online. However, it is not banditry, if you just kill everyone, no matter their gear, and without first attempting communication, do not claim to be a bandit if that's how you play. If someone is charging at you with their fists or some other melee weapon, you kill them for survival, I wouldn't even say that is banditry, if you see someone in a spot that has guns as loot, even if they had nothing yet, it can be safer to kill them, or get the hell out of there, as you know once they find a gun, you will be the target, again, I wouldn't particularly consider that banditry, but its closer then killing someone in a town/on the road that had nothing on them. Don't forget, you have the gun, if you are in such a place, you can force them to surrender or leave, if they don't, its their own fault, and at that point, you are no longer KoSing, not that hard. Oh, and if you don't have a mic, get one, or hit F2 and type a message...

    Events

The problem with this is NPCs, apart from zombies, NPCs don't fit in with the type of game DayZ is, its all about the players, they entirely create their own events and scenarios, we have already seen that happening in SA, even though it's mostly people being handcuffed and forced to do things.... Helicrashes and other similar scenarios however isn't too bad, there is no NPCs involved, just unique, random spots that are fun to come across and get some special loot. Granted though, we don't yet know exactly the extent of military loot that will appear in SA yet, I remember awhile back Rocket suggested if they do have things like NVGs and such, they would be on a global loot and limitation system, which means across all servers, there can only exist say, 5 NVGs, once 5 NVGs exist somewhere, no more can ever spawn, until 1 of the NVGs gets destroyed and is removed from circulation, then itll allow another NVG to spawn somewhere. And as much as I want to be able to get geared up with ghillies, NVGs etc, I quite like the idea of globally limiting this high end stuff, it makes it truly rare and valuable. But yeah, I doubt we will ever see NPCs in DayZ apart from the zombies

    Zabytyy Zemli - Contaminated area

This idea is not unique to Rust, its been done before in other games(environmental hazards at least), and its a cool idea, one game that springs to mind is Stalker, it had radiation fields and anomalies, and if anyone has played Stalker Online(not an official game) with anomaly fields where you get loot from, its quite a neat concept. Though, it simply might not suit DayZ, there is a few other things that could create environmental hazards though, was asbestos ever used around chern? If so, certain buildings could contain asbestos in the air, and you'd need suitable covering or you get sick, obviously asbestos isn't the most realistic scenario for getting sick straight away(usually happens many many years later), but its just one example. It would certainly bring something to the game.

    Should combat logging be ban-able?

I have encountered several combat loggers over the past 2 days, heck, me and my 2 friends decided to log on yesterday, and straight away one of them got shot and killed(we were all logged out hiding near trees), shortly after another of my friends got shot and killed by the same guy, I managed to see him crouch walking near my friends corpse, so I pop off several shots off at him, then he vanished, there is a chance he was using some sort of radar hack, or just got lucky, but either way, he was a dirty combat logger. However, if he was hacking, he needs to be banned, if he wasn't, he doesn't need to be banned, he just got lucky, anti-combat logging hasn't been implemented, so he was able to combat log, once its implemented, he would get killed in that situation, even if he alt+f4'd or combat logged in another way, because his body would still be on the server, and I would have killed him. Stop being pricks about combat logging, it is not bannable, UNLESS CHEATING/HACKING. Yes its shit, yes combat loggers suck and should learn to be ballsy, and right now its rampant because theres no mechanics in place to stop it, be patient, they will come. None of this "sure, there might be situations where someone just have to go/get disconnected/crash, but thats extremely unlikely" stuff, fact is, people do get disconnected from time to time, people do need to suddenly log off no matter the in-game situation, they will accept their punishment(character death) and continue playing, and those who are trying to do it just to avoid death, die anyway, its a win/win situation. Thats why I suggested, if you are in combat, you get a timer where the logout button is, and if you wait out the timer, you can log out normally, but it will still LET you click on it, itll just pop up a warning saying you forfeit your characters life if you log off now, and that will count if they alt+f4/pull their cable/whatever to bypass the standard logout method. If your character has been out of combat for long enough that the timer hits 0, or if you've never been in combat, you can log out instantly and be fine.
  22. The only thing you can adjust in your drivers is stuff like forced AA/AF, brightness/gamma etc, you cant disable shadows for games, or change the fact changing cloud settings causes the night to become brighter(that seems like a game bug). The one I did mentioned they cant change: brightness/gamma is obviously one thing you can't "fix", because theres 3 layers of setting brightness/contrast, first: the game itself, second: drivers/windows settings, third: monitor. All other settings that can give you an advantage need to be looked at, and will be looked at, even if they never actually decide to change them, I know some settings will be nerfed though. Disabling shadows is a huge thing to be able to do, its a massively unfair advantage, especially at night. (Again, this is not something you can change in your card settings, the only other way to change it out of game would be third party "hacks")

    Servers kicking people?

Servers like this I am pretty sure WILL be removed from the whitelist, there is no difference between this and actually putting a password on it. Hicks twitter post
  24. Until loot respawning is in, you can't avoid server hopping unless you get lucky enough to be in a server that hasn't been picked clean already, I am not talking about airfields or military bases, I am talking about anywhere, searched balota(the town, not the airfield) for food/water and other supplies, no loot, except the odd pair of jeans(which a player clearly dropped in favor of something better), what else can we do except server hop? Once we get loot respawning, and they implement anti-hopping mechanics, we will be all good. As for the zombies, there will be more, but military bases wouldn't have a high population of zombies, the cities would, until they optimize more we wont be seeing an increase in the zombie counts, and once they do, along with zombie respawns, it will be much more dangerous.

    How to mod DayZ Standalone?

It won't take that long, but I am sure it won't be before beta, which Rocket said was 6-12 months away. And without having access to the server files, you won't get very far, and trying to run a modded client on normal servers is probably a good way to end up banned, I personally would just wait. Sure, you can dig around in the files, but as I said, I wouldn't be attempting to mod anything right now.
