I still fail to see how this is a fringe case if so many people are arguing it... On top of that, I thought Rocket said server hosts will not be able to alter in-game-time since everything is supposed to be synced so people don't hop daylight to daylight? I was just proposing a fix that would work for everyone even if all servers are completely synced, sorry for trying to help better the alpha(?).
-
I wasn't asking for 24/7 daylight servers, I was saying that either offsetting the time or shortening the cycle should fix the problem so people who work and are new to the game of can't handle always being stuck logging on during night can see the daylight. I agree the mechanics are still alpha and subject to change, but I haven't heard of any change to the night/day cycle. Yes you can look for other hosts in other countries but who wants to try and test a game when their ping is so high that they lag every step they take? Hint: No One, and thus why this topic is being so heavily debated. Just shorten the cycle or offset it so it's 18 or 20 hours instead of 24 so it's ever changing every day.

No, no, no... You obviously don't understand, he tested it and deemed it unplayable for anyone looking into getting the game for the first time. Which I fully agree with. I'm a DayZ supporter and always will be, but my cousin picked up the SA for the first time and is trying to figure out the button mapping which is complex as possible and impossible to learn or test in the night if you are new, which caused him to call DayZ the worst alpha he has ever taken part in. To me this says a lot about what new players may think when they learn they'll never get the chance to test the game in daylight because of the cycle and server-time offset.

Needing a can opener to open a can is pathetic

The better question is why isn't there a can opener in the house that had the cans? How the hell were they opening them before the zombie apocalypse?! -
And: -ung does not equal -ing But the gamma and flashlights have nothing to do with it, we just want the time displaced a tiny bit so those of us who work for a living can see daylight in the game at least ONCE in a blue moon.

Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.

Hombre, I'm not so sure about what you've said. Rust's alpha feels a lot more polished and definitely a lot less clunky controls wise. On the reverse side, there is a ton of hope and promise on this DayZ SA and I hope that Rocket & Team pull through because the long run of this game sounds more promising then others on the market. -
I don't agree at all with 24/7 day servers or a brighter night. However I think the day/night cycle has to be shortened to allow for gamers that have full time jobs to have a chance to see the beauty and design of the game in the daylight.

AgentNeo, in reality currently the sun is only up 9 hours a day and it's dark the remaining 15 hours. The 24 hour cycle works great for people who can sit at home and play the game all day every day, but for others it becomes quite difficult. For example; Your flashlight battery dies and since people were on the server during the day they all found fresh batteries, but since you have to work and can't play during the day you find no loot left to help your cause and have to deal with the pitch dark grey/black, if you bother playing at all. Does that sound fun? Not at all. Just my opinion as someone who works during the 9 hours of sunlight though.

I think the loot system is acceptable as is because of the realism, but if it were to stay this way (which it won't according to Dean) there should be hunting and crop farming implemented so you at least have a CHANCE at eating before you pass out.

The only issues I have with the SA so far is that it feels just as clunky as the mod did, especially with items.... If I have food in my hand why do I need to use the action button then mouse click? Why not just mouse click to use item in hands? The Day/Night cycle is hideous for people who can only play at night. Lastly, is there a main reason Dean used the same map with a few shuffled around cities? It almost feels unfair to those new to the game because everyone else seems to know all of the locations already. -
I find this real time light/dark cycle to be a little ridiculous as it greatly favors people who don't have to work or go to school during the day and seems to make the game unfair for those who do. On top of that many of us would only be able to play during night hours, and I'll say it's been hurting my eyes with the grey scale so far.
