Candy! It's almost Halloween
CGNoodlePot (DayZ) replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Please please anyone from the development team! Please add candy at least as a consumable item that can give a 1% energy boost a piece. -
A good one is a magnesium fire starter. The fire from burning magnesium cannot get extinguished by water so maybe add it as a perk to be able to make campfires on a rainy weather if they will implement the effects of rain to kill a campfire if ignited only by matches.

So I played Standalone again and this is a poetic narration of what had happened. Guess where the bugs at! -------------------------------------------------------------- I woke up in the cold shores of somewhere God only knows. My mind is a haze, not knowing how I came to this very spot that made me feel frightened and alert at the same time, unknowing what to do when I felt a pinch in my stomach that brought me to reality. I might have been lying there for a few days because my insides started communicating with me as soon as I became aware of them, wanting a fill of fresh food and water but my first act is to check my pockets and realized that a flashlight is bulging inside there. I don't remember bringing it with me but I am not complaining. It is a good thing to have this piece of technology because it is night time and it is as black as death. Pulling it out of my pants was easy but when my fingers finally felt the ON button the damn thing didn't even flicker. With no moon or stars to illuminate what I am doing, I try to feel my way to open the torch and figure out whats wrong while enduring the shiver and the feeling of being alone. Got it. Sticking my index finger in the hole shows that it didn't work because there is no battery to burn it. Whoever have put it in my clothes must have place the battery too in my pockets and sure enough I was able to feel it and took it out to finally liberate me in this darkness. In my hurry, the battery fell among the grass and with it, I cursed in disappointment. A few more minutes of frustratingly sorting through stones and dirt I finally found the battery again and slid it in my flashlight. A tunnel of illuminated hope was before me but still there is a massive blackness of unknown to be discovered. But I am not interested in adventure. My feral needs requires my attention. Other than that, my mind is looking for something familiar. Something called civilization. I begin to walk but I feel like a ghost is following my way, I turn my light behind me and around almost on every occasion of a suspicious sound even on the simplest howl of the wind until I made up my mind that its just paranoia or simply a symptom of hunger and thirst. Running slowly got my body to warm up and I begin to concentrate on my journey. I slowly turn my light to another direction when suddenly, a bright light shone before me, almost blinding me. Is that light mine? I might be shooting light on a mirror, reflecting the beam back to my eyes. My fingers killed the switch... but the light remained. "Hey, Man. Friendly?" Hearing that voice, I almost had a heart attack. He was just standing there and he never made a noise. "Hey." I said. I was a little insulted because he is acting like he needs to hide from something but I am happy to see another face of a human being so it was completely forgiven. "I think Elektro is here. Follow me." "O-ok. Lead the way." I replied. Elekto-what?! That word didn't ring a bell in my memory. I am like a sheep following a shepherd. We continued walking and stumbled into a house. I tried to take a look on the windows hoping to see if someone's home that would be kind enough to offer shelter or a phone so I can call back home but my companion is already entering the front door while I am left outside. I wonder what he is doing? I felt a little creeped out being all alone in there so I also came in. "I'm coming in." I echoed into the door, so that I wont be scaring him. The moment I step in, I see him lift a fire extinguisher with his arms and kept it. What is he planning to do with it? If he is planning to kill some fire, the only fire we have is the light from our flash lights and I will be glad to even find a burning one to help warm up my frozen hands. The house was completely stripped, rusting, rotting... abandoned. We left the house and soon we are walking again. I am feeling a little uncomfortable with the silence until I finally had the urge to talk. "Hey where are you from?" It took a while for him to respond. "South..... America." I am not sure if he is making that up because he sounds like he came from the same place where I know I came from. "I'm from America too, the.... United States?" I think he is no mood to talk. I don't know if he is hiding something from me or he is hiding from something else. There are more residential houses and found a pair facing each other on the road, he choose his and I took mine. They too appear like have been long evacuated by its former inhabitants. I'll do like what he is doing and find something useful for nobody seems to care about them now. The place also was stripped to the bone but left a heap of clothes. Someone's trash is someone's treasure. Finally something that will help me fight the chilly wind, a black hoodie. It smells a little like an old cabinet but I wore it over my skin like its brand new. Finding nothing more useful, I got out of the house to check out what my new friend is doing but I couldn't hear any footsteps nor the familiar shine of his light in the interiors of the house I saw him enter earlier. I decided to visit, expecting him to be inside but it is as empty as it looks. My face knotted in confusion. South American guy where are you??? Did he just...? I can't believe this...he left me! I didn't even hear him get out nor saw his light moving away from here. Did he just slip out on purpose? Playing another trick just like what he did earlier? I was so pissed off being left here like that. Good riddance, if that's what he wants! In my disappointment, I stormed out of the house when my movement clung into something... sharp. I yelped. Damn! Just great! I cut my palm on a piece of broken glass and I could feel the hot blood trickling down my fingers. I don't want my problems to be compounded any further. I need to cover this smiling wound fast while I am at work making sense of my miserable existence. The cabinet have leftover clothes that seems to be clean but checking further shows they were contaminated by mold and stains that I don't want near my injury. My depressed mood and the sting of my cut is making me insane when the floor board creaked. South American guy? You have returned? I wonder what happened? Did he got lost? Did the battery of his flash light died? I begin to feel bad putting him in such a negative image just a minute ago. I walked into the living room where the noise of footsteps came from. Shining my light over, I saw a woman's blonde hair and she slowly turn her head to my direction, revealing a bony and peeling face that is barely kept in place by a gory mouth, dripping down her neck and staining her already filthy and bloody clothes. My reptilian brain exploded freaking hell! I immediately retreated back to my corner and shut my light off. I could hear her hiss and shriek in a morbid babble, aware of my presence. Something really weird is going on here. None of us moved a muscle. I took a few minutes to take deep breaths to calm my nerves. If this is another human being, it might be alright to communicate with her but my mouth remained shut. I might be hallucinating. Maybe I am just imagining things...! Oh God... Is South American guy also an illusion? I finally had the courage to take a second look, to verify if my mind and my eyes are not playing tricks on me but the problem is I don't want to believe that the shambling woman in front of me does exist and is the same supermodel last year that won from the morgue. If this is the same girl that South American guy saw here, I now understand the need for discretion. This unreal... It must be... IT MUST BE! My feet want to leave but my flash light shone on a piece of cloth lying on the floor... next to the decaying blonde. I feel it nagging. My wound is inviting me to pick it up. I measured my chances. She is knee deep on the smashed floor board, probably stuck and moving my light around didn't got her attention any further. Alright that's it. My mind is playing tricks at me. I need to eat something soon so that I can stop seeing things, I said to myself and proceeded to leave my hiding place to get my rag. I carefully approached her in side steps and reach for the clothes with a stretched arm. So far so good. The blonde didn't even notice me leaning before her. The clothes was a simple shirt but clean as a nun's underwear. This is the type I need to cover my wound, I ripped it to shreds to make it so. All that movement didn't bother my nightmarish companion but I didn't make any more actions other than what I came there for. An illusion is an illusion and must be left the way it is. I begin to feel easy as I am about to leave the room but I am keeping the weight from my feet, not wanting a noise. A part me still believe that this is real. Fine I'll let it have it as long as I can leave and get away from my imaginings quickly. But the house is decades old. A feathery weight was enough to make it a slither into an earthquake. The blonde screams. From the outside, echoes of crying murder responded from all directions. Did I just awakened something serious? The blonde burst to my direction like an attack dog, fear froze my legs stiffer than ice. Only the warm blood drenching my clothes thawed the cold to get me running for my life. That crazy blonde clawed through my skin, digging off whats left of my doubts to my own sanity! The bushes and low hanging tree branches I passed through whipped me on my face and body as I try to get away from the noise and screams behind me that never fades and grows louder and crazier. I have no idea, no direction of where I am running to. My torchlight is bobbing up and down in chaotic flashes until I finally had the sense to focus. I shine it behind me and found out that the blonde has brought her boyfriends. What did I do to deserve this?! I dragged my feet further but they kept chasing and I begin to pant and wheeze. If I keep on this way I might as well as fall down dead. Then on the peripherals of my vision, I saw a glint of light. Not mine and not far from here, stretching in a parallel direction to me. Someone human is here with me?! Could it be? Its got to be! It should be him! It must be him! I sprinted like there is no tomorrow to get close to that light. That only thing that made sense right now. "Hey its me! Heeelp! Something is chasing me!" I yelled as I got closer and closer to it. I arrived and found the light was lying on the ground almost covered by the grass. Its glow shows the metallic shine of fire extinguisher next to it bouncing the light back. I knew it was him! South American guy! What are you doing lying there? Stop hiding for once for good sakes! I shook him but he didn't moved. My frustration is getting worse as the voices of my chasers got closer and closer. I am tired of being lost and clueless to whatever curse is happening in this place and decided to hold my ground. I clenched my fists ready for a slugfest but my fingers felt slippery. They were wet.... in blood. South American guy? Oh no... He cannot stay with me, He had already left this world long ago. I Stand Alone. A body jumped on me and in the descent, ripped open my cheek. I staggered to keep myself on my feet and did a haymaker on the culprit but I only caught the air between us. They push me towards each other in organized chaos taking a bit or chunk of me in every turn. It felt like being torn apart by dogs. I am so weak from the mauling and losing pints of my life blood that a blow on the back of my head kissed me to the ground. From that moment I knew that my fight is over. My body felt really really cold but my pain is going away, fading away. My eyes saw the partially illuminated face of the blonde as she greedily munch through, I guess, my insides and the increasing blur of my sight gave me a glimpse of how beautiful she once was and her friends, they too were human and like me a long time ago. I wonder what happened? I wonder... what.... happened...? THE END

A more realistic CAMPFIRE ingredients that is already available in game
CGNoodlePot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So if I am correct from what I read, the campfire and cooking feature will be available early 2014. And I believe the items needed are chopped wood, stones and matches. It makes sense and I have a suggestion to probably a better Idea. Instead of stone, it should be PAPER or BOOKS! Because if you come to think of it, the books are a rarely picked up item in the game because they are almost useless. To make them useful, they must be a necessary item for survival. Now if you want to make a campfire in real life, you will need a fast burning material or a fire starter to keep the fire up until the wood is dark and ember. I suggest PAPER is a 1 use item while BOOKS can contain 5-10 sheets of paper that you can burn. This way the players will be encouraged to pick up those papers and books to read... learn something then once they are finished with it, cook meat with it! To make it even more interesting, make it a little harder to start fire without them like there is a 30%-50% chance of fire starting with only matches and wood but an instant fire if you have paper and books. Do I make sense here? Thank you for reading!!!! :D Edit: Now I have another idea: Keep on feeding the campfire wood and paper if you want the fire to keep burning longer so that you dont have to spawn new campfires over the other. Now that is realistic! Edit2: Use books as a layer of protection for your items in the backpack. The books get damaged to Ruined condition first before bullets be able to damage the more important items.- 43 replies

Five friendly players begin to starve, and things turn grim.

I think getting hungry and thirsty should be a real threat like this video. The current system makes nutrition too slow to expire. -

I was stationed to guard the military buildings in NEAF. I am wearing an all black tactical shirt and pants, a press vest, m4 with a few attachments and a shiny UN Helmet. I am looking all cool with my pristine blue rock shoes that complements the rest of the blue things in my body. I wore my dark aviators and felt the good day is all ahead of me. Normally, I just hide in the woods but today I just want to be seen but as a good guy who "keeps the peace" like the message my helmet is broadcasting to the world. I just finished my security check on the west dormitory and now running to the direction of the back of the hangars. It has been a habit of mine to keep something in front of me as I move forward to conceal myself from anyone who could be looking forward at me. The hangar shielded me this time and the moment I reached it, something brushed on my side. Thanks to my training, instead of being ambushed, I stood toe to toe with an unknown soldier in a full TTKSO uniform with a complementing Boonie Hat and Gas Mask, wielding an unknown weapon. I circled and screamed FRIENDLY!!!! I was just three to five paces away from him. I want to raise my hand for friendship but he raised something different. Deadly different. And his response is.... BANG! I felt the bullet smash against my body armor. It felt like a ton of bricks hitting me at the same time. I was perfectly healthy, with my stomach full of a morning's breakfast of soda and sardines but when that shot hit, I felt a thunder of pain then a sudden numbness. My vision lost its color and the human with the mask in front of me suddenly become just one of the surroundings. My joy of meeting him was suddenly doused with a meaningless feeling. He clearly doesn't respect the organization I belonged to so I circled again and pumped him an entire Magazine. He tried to dodge them and was a bit successful but playing tag with 60 pieces of 5.56mm full metal jacket rounds eventually caught up, ripping him. I hear him scream then fell on his face on the ground in a whimper. In a split second I scanned the area... my soldier instincts assumed that he has a buddy that could ambush me if I get tempted to check the identity of the deceased so I ran to the mouth of the hangars while simultaneously looking right and left, back and front and took cover. Hearing no footsteps of anyone following me, I checked my body... no blood or open wounds... maybe a few broken ribs and as my adrenaline subsides, I feel the pain returning but I tried my best to suck it up and be prepared for anything. And to my astonishment... the server timed out. I don't know if my enemy got back what he lost this day after our accidental relationship but whoever he is... I am sorry. Really. I wish we could have met in better circumstances. If it will make you feel better, you are my first confirmed kill. And thanks for the Press Vest for Saving my Life to live another day.

I have been to a few direct contact situations since the mod and usually when I speak first, they get my good intentions. I am usually in the advantage because of the discipline I developed in the principles of cover and concealment plus security protocol. They knew I could have popped them sooner but as soon as I question them about where they are from or where do they live, our humanity rise to the surface. I am a strong believer that there is something good in every human being, just be given the chance. I given it some thought on why am I seem to be so lucky whenever I meet other survivors even if occasional shoot outs happen with some nervous types and now I think I have the answer. We attract the people we set our minds to. It's called "The Law of Attraction". So if you believe every person you meet is a KOSer, you will meet them all the time. Just today I met 3 people in different scenarios and our social exchanges are foot steps, stalking, observing or just remaining still as we wait for the other to expose himself until we just quietly slip away or say we are friendly and don't shoot and leave. It is on the life and death situations we can feel the deepest respect with the other's capabilities and being able to practice them all the time is a gift. -

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Can you kindly add the Mortar? -
I wish we have someone here who knows how to use a light mortar in real life like a former soldier. I am eyeing on a Light Mortar called L9A1 51 mm Light Mortar because its seems to be the most feasible to use in DayZ. I couldnt find any information of how exactly it is being ranged or zeroed and how exactly it is used in combat. But my gut tells me this is pretty much a "guess as you fire" weapon which no real accuracy calculation. The mortar shells can also fire flare and smoke and so it can make things less deadly. BeefBacon pretty much sums up how the mortar will be balanced in the game including my own suggestions. I also have no problem with an RPG.

I just found a press vest and then a UN Ballistic Helmet. The blue of the helm compliments the vest so I try to wear it but it wont work. There is a read box over the helmet whenever I try to put it on. Even the black ones I found later don't also work. Is this a bug? I am tucking it inside my bag for now as I figure this out.
-
Has anyone ever seen a Ballistic Vesst
CGNoodlePot (DayZ) replied to willhelm's topic in General Discussion
I just got one today. Look for it on train stations. -
No! I will pray to all gods in this planet if that's what it takes to get my mortar. To further regulate it: Use the British L91 51mm light mortar launcher and it should only be shoulder carried then the shells take 2 or 3 slots in the backpack.
-
We need to be more creative! Small mortars are feasible in the game. Military bases should also contain these pieces because it should be. Just make it very rare. I think these small mortars can't be zeroed if I am correct. So that means you will have to gauge and lob a few rounds before you get a hit. It's a fire for effect weapon.
-
This is also known as DAZZLE CAMO. Good for urban warfare. MORE DETAILS HERE.
-
A much modern type: L9A1 51 mm Light Mortar
-
I am not trolling! Only the fuel stations explode right now and we need a few bit more. We need something unique like an improvised mortar grenade and if you find the launcher, then you will be able to hurl them farther. To prevent abuse, the launcher spawn very rare and the mortar shells spawn less frequently than the hand grenades. For this matter, the 2 inch mortar is feasible instead of the big two man setup versions.
-
Chainsaws are coming in SA. Amputation is a must!
-
We better add the sea weed. Then add some cooked rice, crab meat and you will get a Japanese Roll.
-
I have an idea on a much more practical application of the walkie talkie: you will get a mayday call from a helicopter about to crash then the status indicator will reveal the grid coordinates of the crash? That is if heli crashes will still be implemented by rocket.

Urban Camo Pattern for Military Clothes

Back in the Mod days yes. Chernarus+ is literally popping with buildings right now.
