Glad to see the removal of respawn incoming. Adding back to the "crap I'm in the middle of freaking no where and have to find shit to survive." Next request: remove Elektro and Cherno from possible spawn points.

This is great in theory. Unfortunately it's not actually accurate. The displayed times do not always match the server time. I don't know if DC goes by server location or waht but there have been countless times I've logged into a server that displayed as "daytime" in the list only to find out the time when in game is actually night.

I didn't see this before posting my previous reply. This actually sounds a little better. I am guessing then that normal Abort/Log outs (as would be most usually used by players with the issues I listed above) won't affect your reputation. The only concern I still have about it is for those times when you can't get past a loading/waiting for character to create screen and your only option is to end the program (which would result in a "disconnect"), which leads to the question: At which point is the "success" message broadcast?

I think you're trying to go too complicated with the log in/log out and the unfortunate side effect is going to end up punishing innocent players who are simply trying to A.) Find a server that doesn't have FPS issues. B.) Find a server that isn't pitch black. C.) Play as Medic characters. D.) Find a server that doesn't kick them for ping/kick them for BattleEye initialization issues E.) Find a server that doesn't have extreme De-Sync issues F.) Happen to be on a server that is having severe stability issues. Players that alt-f4 do not connect/reconnect in rapid succession. They Alt-f4 on engagement. Reload the game up and *might* find another server or will wait 10 minutes or more and log back in to the same server.

Maybe for a minute. Then the server will restart and everything will be the way it was before you got there.

Point missed in this thread: @Rocket: Clean up of camps/items is not working as intended. Please to make this a higher priority in fix list. The gathering of gear and supplies is too easy. Survival in it's current state is trivial. Death does not have enough of an impact. I do believe he is aware of these issues. Another voice to make sure he hears it, however, is never a bad thing. -
It's getting old. It would be great if the people in charge of Hive could, you know, fix the shit.

He thinks about removing the respawn button and adding a suicide animation, and you'll need a weapon to kill yourself Love it. He wants underground bases, got inspiration from X-Com, he'd like to be able to introduce new regions, "being able to go from one island to another". These underground bases would be in another instance, separated from the main map. This peaks my interest. My concern with the whole base thing rests in the decline of the impact of perma death. So I'm interested to see how design regarding this plays out. The idea of death needs to be a looming, unwanted threat. If you take away the concept of avoiding death and doing everything you can do to survive it destroys some of the gameplay. It's a little bit of a problem now, in fact. It's so easy to just get all the gear you need in hardly anytime at all. With these bases/complexes/camps, there is the worry that if you die, it's no big deal. Just run to the base, grab out of your stash, and you're right back where you left off. There HAS to be negative impact. There HAS to be motivation to survive. I don't know how this can be addressed. Something like... if there was some sort of skill system involved. You die, you start from square 1 again. Perhaps that's a place to start - but without the inclusion of some sort of deck building/skill system I don't know how it could be addressed. Smarter people than me would hopefully - will fortunately be - in on the development of this. He's been working on the disconnection during firefight issues this week. They going to track people's login and logout, and put a cooldown on respawn, and start to punish you if you do it a lot during a long period of time I imagine that until the game goes standalone, the best that can be done with DayZ is hacked workarounds. It sucks at the moment but I'm not at all worried about alt-f4ing being something that won't be dealt with in DayZ. In a stand alone there wouldn't be a single player/coop mode. It will be an open world survival zombie game, even if some players are frustrated by it. He doesn't want a designed story line, but rather elements in the game that tell a story (newspapers...) Perfect. He supports locked cars. You forgot to add... with some way to break into them and other "locked" things (like bases/camps - he said that as well He wants Eve's capital ships in DayZ, ie. bases to defend that take years to build. This is the underground complex thing he was talking about. The underground/instanced thing is where he is thinking this should/will go. The world is unfair and unbalanced and it will stay that way. I would expect nothing less. He won't develop a trading system. He wants players to make the trading system themselves. Perfect No safe zones. Zones have to be defended by players themselves. Again - love it. Would expect nothing less. ***There is no confirmation of a standalone yet \snip/ Another thing I am not worried about. It is where he wants it to go and I believe there is enough demand/hype/support for it to happen.

I was playing last night as a storm rolled in here. I was creeping around Green Mountain as the sun (in game) was going down (after having just read a few Urban Legends on the forums here). Thunder outside CRACKS - I JUMPED up out of my chair. My heart was banging so hard lol. I had to log off and walk around for about 10 minutes just to calm down. :) -
So good to see there are players out there like myself still enjoying the game in the way I do. Great story.

Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers

Okay so if someone could help me out... Updated to the 94997 beta. Downloaded the .dll files for BattleEye and pasted them into the specified folders (overwrote old files). Every 94997 server I try to join I get: BattleEye Initialization failed. RESOLVED: Ran the setup.exe. Appears to have solved the problem. Also - no stuck at waiting for host issue. Logged in. Played smoothly. Hope this helps out with the hacking issues. -

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Figured I'd update and test out, since it will be required tomorrow anyway - but I am finding 0 servers running version 94977. This makes me nervous. I had the stuck waiting for host with 94945 with no resolution except to revert to 94876 and have no way to determine if I'll have the same issue with 94977. Also - you guys really do need to get just a little bit more organized. Far too many servers and players at the moment to keep going with the same old, throw it out there and hope someone reads the right post in the right thread at the right time method. EDIT: SO it helps if you type in the correct number version. 94997. Not 977. Found them. Will give it a whirl. -
Some things I'd like to see in the DayZ to come. 1. Character Journal (optional) Player can make text entries. Day # automatically added at the top of the entry. Optional time entry if a watch is equipped. 2. Hunger/Thirst The longer a character spends unfed/unhydrated = stacking of less coordination/dexterity (aim/stealth), vision impairment, slower speeds when traveling (on up to how it is now with starvation/dehydration), increase in damage taken, increased chance of sickness 3. Encumberance (believe this is implemented with the ArmA3 mechanics) 4. Body Temperature Affected by wet (from rain or other water)/time of day/running (should increase body temp even if slightly) 5. Infection Affects body temperature + coordination/dexterity + speed + vision/increase in damage taken 6. Infected Investigation Noise from a player should result in the infected investigating where the noise came from (like cans and bottles do). Full on aggro should only come from visual (line of sight) and gunfire 7. Infected spawns are independent of player vicinity. -Zeds inhabit a specific area, independent of a player being there. As it is now, it's too easy to locate the presence of another player simply by watching for infected spawns. 8. Visual indication of humanity I know some of these things have been mentioned as things that are being considered/worked on. Just think of this as a vote for them. Anyone who would like to add to/argue against any of the above, have at it. edit: for typo

A Few Things I'd Like in DayZ @Rocket and Team

Yea, I know some of these things are either already in to some extent or were tried and have been pulled back because it didn't work right (bandit skin). I'd like to see them pushed upon. I'd really love the character journal. Maybe even with some way to export it to an integrated DayZ player profile page. Being able to loot one off a player corpse could add for some fun immersion as well. @Testificate - They are including encumbrance in ArmA 3. That is, the more you're carrying, the heavier your gear is which would reflect at the very least in your speed of travel and likley the amount of noise you make, too.
