How will flying work? Simulator or Arcade?

Helicopters are fun so I wouldn't really mind sacrificing some sacred realism to have them in the game. However, it would be cool as shit if Helicopters were about as complex in game as they are in the DCS flight simulators, having a complicated as shit cold start sequence before they can even take off. People will actually need to train for piloting in Day Z, which would be quite hilarious.

Do you think now zombies are a threat?

If anything Zombies are even less of an issue right now. The fact that you can kill them without any weapon at all already makes them easier than the mod ones, the fact that they're a lot slower than you is another thing, they also go down to a single shot from a .45ACP round, where in the mod zombies would need 3 rounds in the chest from the m1911/revolver. This is not all that relevant now assuming that we will see massive amounts of them in the future. There isn't really any point in balancing them now when there are so few of them. Once we deal with dozens at a time we'll see how much of a threat they make.

The Mosin is the new Mountain Dew

You can hold two rifles in the game guys, here's how: Put one rifle in your inventory, make sure your hands are free, look at the rifle you want to take and select 'take into hands' option, tada, you now have two rifles. The moment you take another object into your hands the rifle will be dropped, so make sure to pick it up, you also can't climb ladders without dropping it.

Punch KO, one punch and I'm down

That's funny that you would accuse me of shit talking when A. You can't block at all, raising your weapon doesn't block anything, it just plays a stupid animation that makes your attacks weird, also you can't do it with rifles, though you would be able to in real life and B. Sidestepping is possible and slow as shit compared to moving foreword, most melee fights I've sen people just run at each other in circles flailing like mad men.

Punch KO, one punch and I'm down

Yes but what signifies the different between 'aware' and 'unaware' in a DayZ context? Is it the fact that you're close enough and managed to aim the punch? DayZ doesn't even allow me to crouch quickly, let alone evade and dodge. DayZ isn't "Chivalry: Medieval Warfare" where the melee mechanics are reactive, People can't block in DayZ, they can't duck, they can't even move sideways quickly enough. If you attack a person unawares than yes your punch might have a good chance to make them fall over, mind you, not a 100% chance at all but let's say a good chance, however that chance drops tremendously if you actually try the same thing against a person who is aware of your presence.

    How NOT to KoS?

Approach places with the assumption that they are insecure, don't go straight for the loot spots, peak around every corner, observe people for a few minutes in case you spot them and then decide how you want to handle the encounter, if you stay in cover and about 100m away from the loot hot spots you usually won't run into other players in situations like you've described earlier. If you see another armed player and he's looking right at you 20m away from you it is a messed up situation where you either shoot first or risk getting shot, that's the point of the game.

    We need tents!

Tents are seriously the last thing you want to implement in this game before loot respawning is sorted out and server hopping is somewhat reduced. As bad as server hopping is right now people can only equip one character, that means a maximum of two rifles and about 60 slots worth of loot. The moment you add tents people will make it their full time jobs to set up tents to fill up with meaningless loot, server hopping with no risk as they'll just leave their stash in the tents. Tents can come much later.

    If Aviators actually worked!

Actually this was discussed by Rocket in one of the streams where he said that it was discussed but both the dev and marketing teams were opposed to this feature so it's probably not going to get implemented.

    Oculus Rift = Pay2Win

This thread is better than the ones about KOS, combat logging and server hopping. So I'm fine with that.

    Oculus Rift = Pay2Win

This is actually interesting though, will Oculus and other bifocal devices simulate closing down one eye when aiming down sights? could be a cool feature.

    Oculus Rift = Pay2Win

Devs please limit FPS to 15 to level the playing ground, visibility should also be limited to about 100 meters.

Punch KO, one punch and I'm down

It's pretty funny how whenever someone raises the issue of firearms inaccuracy people go "Your character is a random survivor! not a spec-ops soldier!" but when a thread like this comes up people go "1 hit KO is perfectly fine, can you imagine getting punched by a professional fighter?". Can you spot the contradiction? Perhaps some personal bias? Punching to the head is OP given that getting shot in the leg doesn't make people fall down or pass out nearly as often, ballistic helmets also do nothing at all against punching while in reality a person is probably more likely to fracture his own knuckles by punching a helmet than rendering his target unconscious. Maybe in the future you'll truly be able to block melee attacks or strike back with your rifle butt, I also think that hitting a person with a longer melee weapon should push them away as in reality a person using his fists has incredibly poor odds at actually closing in on someone wielding a baseball bat (or using an M4 as a melee weapon, which is fully possible and quite painful).

Why are we making it harder to be friendly??

You can also hold containers in your hands to access them, you don't have to drop them on the ground.

    Rarest Item?

Never saw that one, I doubt it's in the game at the moment. Walkie Talkies are very rare, I found one though it was in a pair of blue jeans dropped by some player so it might have been spawned in somehow. Mosin long range scopes are quite rare.

    M4A1s are Common and Overpowered

No way you died from one shot to the leg, sorry that just doesn't happen. You can usually even survive two chest shots if you wear a ballistic vest. I even once survived a mosin shot to the chest wearing a ballistic vest. If you wear a ballistic helmet headshots will only knock you unconscious most of the time (face shots still kill). How would you even know where you got shot? It's not like you can see where you're bleeding from and you can't rely on the animations of the player who shot you as hit detection is client side, it might appear as though he's aiming towards one point while in fact he was aiming somewhere else. Maybe he headshot you, maybe your blood was low, maybe he put two bullets in your chest. And how can you get killed by a zombie in this game anyway? you can kill them with your fists without taking damage.
  16. While JSRS is a massive improvement as far as the quality of samples is concerned it actually makes detecting the source of a shot more difficult due to the insane amount of reverb recorded in their samples, it's very obvious that all of their samples were recorded in an indoors firing range. Shots fired outdoors in an open field wouldn't have this long rolling reverb tail that the JSRS samples have, this makes the sonic signature of firearms a bit confusing. I do like how JSRS makes weapons sound like they're actually powerful though, a quality which the ARMA2 samples always lacked. I think JSRS have some good ideas but they're doing some stuff the wrong way. Their ambient effects are really bad though, it always sounds like you have a bird perched right over your shoulder, going with you wherever you go.

    Suggestion: item - periscope

I don't care either way but I find the passive aggressive statement regarding 'the way it's meant to be played' hilarious as Rocket is a pretty avid supporter of 3rd person view. Even if you implement a periscope '3d person cheaters' would still have a massive advantage over you given that they don't need to equip a special item and can do a full 360 sweep in full FOV. You can just roleplay as if you're taking out a periscope and use 3rd person view to look around corners, such say in direct chat stuff like "Oi I'm getting me periscope out now, I'm a submarine captain.", it'll probably work better for all involved. (For the record I also think the game would've been a lot better as 1st person only, but I'm not gonna handicap myself just to prove something to myself)
  18. Rocket has already in several different occasions that there are systems in place to deal with all of these issues (except spawn kills) but that they were disabled for the first weeks of the early access release due to various technical concerns. So clearly, Rocket and the team are already aware of these issues and have some solutions in mind, why don't we just wait until the enable the stuff they have implemented and see if it helps? As for spawn killing, it's only an issue because loot isn't rare and it all spawns on the beach, once you have 'beginner's weapons' like you had in the mod (enfields, winchesters, makarovs etc) fully geared guys would be more weary of dragging their asses from the north all the way to the coast as any industrious newbie with an enfield can take out a guy with a DMR with a bit of patience and a good shot. Of course, this is DayZ so you should worry more about the time when vehicles are added and you have guys flying hueys buzzing over the coast ushering a hail of m240 bullets at guys who just spawned. And still, you've just spawned so why would you care either way? their m240 bullets are seriously more valuable than your flashlight and all in all it's a net-loss for them, if you already got some gear you don't want to lose you can always hide when you hear/see someone coming. Let's just wait and see, we really don't need 10 new threads every day to discuss this same issues.

    Any fellow heroes?

Yes, I'm a hero. I assume everyone running around in Chernarus is a murderer or a potential murderer so I try to kill as many of them as possible.

[OUTDATED] DayZ: The Ultimate Loot Route

None of this would work if you play on a populated server as by the time you make it to Balota all the loot will be taken, same for the western military base. Not to mention that you're gonna get shot in Balota and possibly in Dubky. The military base is also often camped/server-hopped. Your best chance at actually getting a rifle without cheesing the game is to get to one of the school buildings, the top floor is guranteed to spawn a rifle of some sort, if you're lucky it might be a Mosin, the ammo for which is common outside military spawns, 5.56 ammunition will mysteriously disappear from barracks on all servers about 30 minutes after the server reset.

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]

What does that mean? ARMA isn't that realistic, that's why you have mods like ACE that change a lot of the internal mechanics to make them a lot more realistic. Furthermore, DayZ already makes some pretty extensive changes to the core ARMA mechanics that make it less realistic, the most important one being the fact that a survivor in DayZ has 2.5 times more 'blood' than a soldier in ARMA, ARMA soldiers have 4.5k blood which means that they go down to 2 STANAG rounds to the chest, DayZ survivor take 4 STANAG round to the chest and two 7.62 rounds, so already DayZ survivors are pretty much supermen compared to the internal realism of the ARMA engine. A few more interesting things, in DayZ/ARMA the weapon you're using itself has no importance other than the scopes/sights it has equipped, damage/range/recoil in DayZ are all dependent on the type of ammunition you're firing, so all STANAG shooters are completely identical in every way, that is of course not realistic as the weapon itself makes considerable difference in real life. For me there is no dichotomy between realism and balance the way the OP presents it, one way to make sniper rifles more 'balanced' would be to add wind and Coriolis effects to bullet travel, I'd like to see all the DMR pro-snipers from the DayZ mod who relied on the built in rangefinder try to lend shots when wind and Coriolis are in play, it would make being a sniper a skill that requires more than a rifle with a scope. For what it's worse I do agree that weapon performance in DayZ should be realistic rather than 'video gamey' cause that's what the game is about, the way weapons in Standalone feel right now is a bit disappointing, the M4's spread is inexcusable.
  22. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=3808 Apparently some server owners abuse the public hive infrastructure to host servers in which only select players may play and farm all the loot they want before going back to the public hives, I assume that these servers also restart far more frequently allowing these guys to do thinks like gear up in Balota and just hop on to the public hive to attack players who lack such privileges. This goes against the spirit of the 'public hive' and was in fact forbidden back in the days of the DayZ mod.

    keep standalone CLEAN!!!

Just a head's up guys, there's a pretty simple exploit that allows ANY PLAYER to reset any server and get admin access on any server they wants, hopefully it will get patched soon but at the moment you should realize that some suspicious admin activities might have nothing to do with the actual server admins.

How to play on Windowed Mode?

that, or add -windowed to your launch options in Steam.
  25. As far as I'm concerned there should be a character wipe every week or so, maybe that way people would be less concerned about 'hoarding gear' and would server hop a bit less. Maybe they could actually try playing the game like normal people.
