Although we know base building is coming, there isn't any info on what exactly they're doing for it. Personally, i'de like to see boarding up houses being the main thing. So you could board up a cabin, and once you do that no loot/zombies will spawn in/around it. In addition you could put a small amoung off loot in/on the cupboards, tables, dressers, ect.not a ton of loot though. If you want more space you can set up some crates or something. However the only way to lock it would be to board it up from the inside, or you could lock people in by blocking the door from the outside. The only way to get in a door boarded from the other side is 15 minutes of axeing it or explosives. For those who don't want that, good old fashioned tents, but with a twist: civilian camping tents. No more surplus camo tents, this time, white, orange, blue, red, ect. An extremely rare military tent could also be found. And now, you should be able to burn the tent (abd all it's gear) down with matches. For higher-level, maybe some wooden fences, a small shed-type thing, ect. But that stuff would take weeks to build. And no stashing vehicles/tents in the debug plains! Anyone elses thoughts?

Rocket talked about this in 2013 during a live stream, haven't heard anything about it since.

In real life, the Vz-58 has a rate of fire of about 800 RPM. for some reason, in arma this is reduced to around 600 RPM. The rate of fire was fixed in the ArmA 2 ACE Mod, as can be seen in the video below: Changing the rate of fire would set the Sa-58 apart from the AKM, which it is more or less identical to atm. Speaking on the AKM... Something that really bugs me is that the AKM was renamed to "AK-47M". In reality, no weapon known as the "AK-47M" ever existed. Actually, in the Soviet Army, the "AK-47" was designated simply as "AK", with "AK-47" being a western name for the type. In 1959, the Soviets introduced the "AKM". Basically this was an AK-47 made out of stamped steel. The majority of AKs encountered are infact AKMs, with original "AK-47s" being extremely rare. The model in-game is clearly an AKM, and was named as such until a few updates ago. As someone interested in guns, whenever i see the name "AK-47M", i think of cheap airsoft AKs with plastic rails attached to them - which makes me want to both laugh and cringe at the same time. My recommendation is to restore the original (correct) name if you care at all for realism. And, speaking of realism... From my experience, the Mosin is only doing about 5000 damage for round, whereas the PKM and SVD (Which use the same round) do 8000. I can't be sure on this, but it seems the mosin always takes at least 3 hits to kill a player. The mosin SHOULD be doing 8000 damage, alongside the PKM, SVD, DMR, M24, M240, ect. currently it is worse to the Lee-Enfield, which fires an inferior .303 round. Lastly, something that makes no sense to me is the use of a British skin for the generic "Soldier Skin". This British were never in Chernarus in ArmA 2, and it really doesn't make sense that Modern British uniforms would be spawning in Chernarussian fire stations and Military bases. My suggestion is to either: ~Replace the British skin in common lootpiles with "Camo Clothing", which is also British but less obviously so, and move "Soldier Clothing" to crash sites only, especially British crash sites. ~Add Chernarussian (CDF) Soldier clothing in place of the British skin. ~Move British clothing to crash sites only, and add Chernarussian soldier clothing to common loot piles. This would be my preferred solution, as the CDF skins are pretty nice and fit with Chernarus's lore.

Getting kicked out from game at start
thedogfoodyayho replied to thenamesalexhoward's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Are you trying to play vanilla? If so, the way i fixed it was: Install DayZ Mod on steam, launch it, copy the IP of the server you want from DayZ Launcher, and paste it into "remote" in the in-game server browser. If that doesn't work, run steam as admin and try again. -
Awesome, gonna jump on later tonight.

Just come back to the mod. Still getting a major updated every few months, with a new update featuring the return of base building about to hit here soon... -
The good old days ))) Gamma fix is diffidently needed. Night time used to be a scary experience in DayZ, but after you discover Gamma it's basically shitty-looking daytime. And i'm not going to put myself at a disadvantage against players who are using the exploit by not using it myself.

Vanilla Dayz Bandit Squad
thedogfoodyayho replied to Spunkey Doodle's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Aye Been playing since 2013 as well. I usually play more like bandit unless the opportunity presents itself to team up. I have over 2000 hours in-game so i know what i'm doing. I play Vanilla (As in US 434, without any added scripts or anything) and occasionally hop on Origins or a PvP server just to have some fun. I have Skype and TS. Add me on steam: Name is Lizardpile. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198097559368/games/?tab=all -
On the usefulness of handguns and shotguns
thedogfoodyayho replied to aGWulfy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't think anyone here is saying handguns should be as good as rifles. But ten-twelve rounds to the chest with a 9mm just to kill a man is a bit ridiculous. IMO a 9mm in DayZ should do about 2500 damage at the muzzle and a .45 should do about 3500. The velocity should degrade very quickly, but they would be able to be of some use at close range. Shotguns should do somewhere around 7000-9000 damage per slug at the muzzle, but again this would degrade very quickly. Pellets are fine as they are IMO. Shotguns are actually decent weapons in DayZ, especially in cities, but slug ammunition is pretty much useless, especially if you've got a double-barreled - even if you get two hits, you have to reload and hit the target again to get a kill. If i carry a shotgun in DayZ i usually carry about 30-40 pellet rounds (ideally) and maybe 16 slugs for emergencies. The Winchester basically fires shotgun slugs (Similar damage, range, ect) but it does it faster and with twice the magazine capacity. -

Skalka mountain (far NW corner of the map), Willow and Black lakes, Bridge west of Vybor, and Rog castle are my favorites. -
On the usefulness of handguns and shotguns
thedogfoodyayho replied to aGWulfy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That was why i figured it was a headshot. The only reason i even realized i killed him was due to the humanity drop. I was just firing as fast as the rifle could above the firestation in an attempt to suppress the guy, and once my buddy actually got over there he found him lying dead on the roof. Hella' good luck if you ask me. -

The current in-game model for winchester ammo is an original 19th-century style cardboard box that is marked .44 Henry. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=4 As for the Wiki, i added information on the new weapon attachments and some other new stuff awhile back. I didn't know how much damage the pistols did, so i left them as-is. Interesting story Gews. The Enfield is still probably one of my favorite in-game weapons. One shot is guaranteed to knock the target unconscious and it's quite accurate up to about 400. The only other guns i'd take over it would be an M16A2/A4, an FAL (provided there was ample ammunition) or an M14, or pretty much any sniper. I once pulled off a headshot just shy of 1000m on a guy who was ontop the NWAF firestation using one. Complete luck, i was just trying to suppress the guy while my buddy flanked. 77348806 -
These were taken last year, but anyway:
-
Never had a problem with it, expect for the lack of range finding equipment. If it had a better scope, it would be just as good as the much rarer M24/M40A3, which wouldn't be good considering it's so common.
-
They've stated that unless someone provides a model for it, then no. Maybe they could contact the I44 team and see if they can use the Scoped enfield they made? I've never really needed a scope for it though, the sights are usually all I need. I once pulled off a 1200m headshot on a guy sitting ontop the NWAF firestation (Pure luck, was just trying to suppress him) and at another point, I sniped a heli pilot by randomly firing my enfield at the heli in defiance of the hail of 7.62mm rounds it was spraying at me. It is without a doubt one of the best weapons in the game. The only other civilian weapon I would take over it would be the CZ550. I would keep it over just about every other non-sniper in the game, except for the M16, the M14 and maybe the FAL.

What do you enjoy about the Mod?
thedogfoodyayho replied to outlaw1198's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is going to be long... so, yeah. Early on, I liked the mod because it was (Or at least, I thought it was) basically the game I had been wanting for years (That is, an online open world without pay-to win shit or forcing you to go on "quests", set in a modern environment with cool weapons and vehicles - with zombies thrown in! I bought it without even watching any videos or reading any reviews - as soon as someone told me about it, I knew I had to have it. And the first few months I played were by far the most fun I've ever had on a video game. I still didn't watch any videos (Besides "Last Stand Gamers Survival Secrets", which are entertaining but don't really offer much practical knowledge. ) Thus, I didn't know zombies couldn't run indoors or about the zombie spawning radius, and I died often. I remember clearing the Cherno apartments with a friend, using a Crossbow and a silenced M9 we had found on a dead body - It would take us upwards of 20 minutes, trying not to be seen by zombies. It's a wonder no one ever killed us. Crawling around in the dark while being hunted by a couple players using M4A3s - with the flashlights on - in the fields near Zelenogorsk was another terrifying experience. The fear was the best part, I guess. I also for some reason had the idea that the map was 225km instead of km2... this added to the mystery factor of "What's up north?" and I thought I would never get to explore the whole map. 6 months later though, I had mastered the art of zombie killing and was dropping 4-5 players a day, easily. That era was quiet fun as well though, as I still occasionally died of zombies and still didn't know very much of the map. another 6 months later, and I knew the map by heart, and had no problems with zombies at all. At this point, the game was starting to stagnate. This is when I started playing Epoch, Origins and Overwatch, and also about the time I had gotten a few other friends to buy the game. That soon stagnated as well though, and I basically quit for a few months before coming back to vanilla on Easter day, 2014. That proved quite fun, and I pretty much renounced banditry. Met up with a ton of bambis who where just like I had been a year ago, and led them from Cherno to Green mountain, where I scared the shit out of them by launching '203 flares into the air at night. It was only a few weeks before I got a hero skin, and I kept it until the fall of the official hive. (late 2014? don't remember) Ever since then, I've become a bandit again, and have just been periodically playing with a group of friends on the Insurrection servers, and occasionally as a lone wolf on vanilla servers. I haven't played since February now, so I think I might just hop on a server... Also, the generally atmosphere of ArmA 2 is just better than standalone, IMO. Standalone just makes me feel lonely and bored. In short though: Pros: *Extremely fun when your new, especially if you don't watch tutorials and just read the Wiki. *Huge open world - no rules, do ANYTHING you want. *Can get creepy if you want it to, especially at night. *Nostalgia. *Although you have to buy ArmA, your basically getting an excellent Milsim, plus DayZ, for $20. *IMO, the mod is much more enjoyable than standalone. Cons: *Map gets old after you learn that people congregate in the Northwest. *Zombies are little threat after you find out their weaknesses. *Replay value decreases over time for most people *The community is no longer as large. most of it is made up of veterans of the game, so encounters with newer players slowly are getting rarer. -
New shovel can't upgrade stashes.....hmmmm
thedogfoodyayho replied to Rifleman89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, it was 100% about the mod. In the latest update, they added a new shovel to "replace" the ETOOL "Eventually" to make stashes with, but ATM it can only be used to create stashes and not upgrade them. Stashes are in the mod, not SA. OP, Yes, ETOOLs are still in game, I found one last night at a Merlin crash site. Hopefully they'll fix the shovels soon. -
DayZMod Dev-47fb212 - PreRelease of V-1.8.7
thedogfoodyayho replied to r4z0r49's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Is the new "RPK" a 7.62x39mm RPK or the RPK-74, which was already ingame? Just wondering, because I haven't seen any 7.62x39mm RPK mags yet and have found several PKMs and RPK-74s, but no "RPKs" -
Good idea, 7.62x54mm rifle that can take a hunting scope, alternative to the M70. +1

No, I wouldn't say that's abuse, just one of those admins who likes to fly around in Apaches and kill zombies (Boring AF) He didn't attack you, or do anything to you really. You weren't supposed to take that Apache. He probably just spawned it in to derp around with it (Frowned upon, but as long as he wasn't using it to kill other people, it's his right as a server owner) I'm sure you could understand that he didn't want some random player who had just KOSed him to get an attack helicopter. In all likelihood you would have flown up the coast and killed everyone you saw, with them having no chance to fight back, assuming the server was mostly legit and didn't have Apaches spawning on airfields. An example of admin abuse, in my book would be: (Real things that happened to me) Me and a friend are driving up the coast in separate cars when we see a Police car driving towards us. We form a barricade with the cars and unload into the police car with M16s. Four players dressed as cops and wielding M240s hop out while we hit each other them 15 times easily with M16s and M4s. However, they had invincibility on and didn't die, despite the multiple headshots and countless body shots. They then start spraying with M240s (But it took them awhile to kill us) and we go down. Then is direct they say things like "Your under arrest fags lol scrubs hehe you suck" in typical 13yr old style. Basically, we would have killed all of them before they even got out of the car if they hadn't been using admin hax (Yes, two of them were admins) but instead we lost 45mins worth of progress to some 13 year old bitches who can't even fight us without turning on invincibility. Another example. Me and a couple friends had been playing on some overwatch server. We had found someone's camp consisting of two Urals filled to the brim with weaponry and drug them well into the middle of nowhere. The next day we saw some clan of like 5 guys whining to an admin (Who was their friend) to use map hacks to help them find some vehicles that were stolen from them. A couple minutes later we were on a hill about 1000m from our camp in a BTR-40, and we saw a UH-1Y flying away from our camp carrying a Ural in a sling load. The UH-1Y was piloted by the admin that they had been whining to. Upon reaching what was left of our camp, we encountered one of the clan members looting some trash car we had drug out there and killed him. They admitted that they had convinced the admin to use map hacks to find our base. (And guess what, we hadn't even stolen their shit, we had found their enemies camp! But of course, even after they found their stuff, they didn't return ours) The shittiest part about this was this admin wasn't even supposed to get involved in any kind of fight, he was only allowed to help solve player disputes and spectate battles. Also, said clan were actually our allies. We had helped them to kill a group of squeakers that killed them on the coast. I believe the admin was banned by the server owner after this, but I quit and went back to vanilla, permanently. Wow, this turned into a long post When you have that much power it's easy to become corrupt. Usually it starts when they give themselves "Just one" blood bag, or spawn in a vehicle "Just to get up north". From there it escalates to giving themselves and their friends unfair advantages, using their powers to kill other players, kicking/banning people that annoy or kill them/their friends, and general corruptness. Have you ever played minecraft in survival mode with cheat mode enabled? You tell yourself you won't use it unless you absolutely need to, but soon enough, you'll need "Just one" piece of food to survive the nigh... Admins need to be neutral and only use their powers to deal with hackers and spammers. This is why I usually play vanilla servers without any addons, because then admins can only kick/ban/mute ect.

Has anyone seen or heard of someone using an M16A2 M203 Variant since 1.8.4? If it was removed, that would be a shame. The M16A2 M203 wasn't an attachment, the M203 was built onto the gun with the awesome "Scar Face" front end over the barrel. For me this was the classic US weapon of the 1980s, and a Classic weapon of the early days of the mod. It was the first military weapon I found, and I always felt really survivor-ish while using it due to it's Retro look compared to the M16A4. It was also relatively common, and thus a good way for people on the coast who got them out of military tents to make use of the M203 Flares and smokes just for shits & giggles.
