Can we get a warning before servers restart please?
Pallidum replied to ABORT's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I imagine that some of the server restarts are due to crashes. There are also servers that will restart on a regular basis in order to restart any broken scripts (loot or zombie spawns for example), and I'm not sure if there are any means of automatically broadcasting a warning prior to such a shutdown. I'm sure the dayz team and the server admins will try to work something out if possible, but keep in mind that this is still an alpha, and there may be more important issues that need to be addressed first. -

I definitely would love to see such a feature. This would be similar to the killmails of EVE, only with the added risk that a bandit (or trigger happy survivor) would be required to risk his or her life to investigate the victims of their heinous acts. I would definitely approve of such a feature. Tugs and Wishes, Approval-Marshal Palli 'Upvote' Treponema -
To be fair, Operative Gobbins was suffering from a severe amount of blood loss from falling through the geometry, and was in dire need of healing. It just so transpired that I had just reached a position upon where I could witness the samaritan act of kindness. And then blew his brains out. Hugglies, CZ-Mashal Palli 'Brainshot' Treponema

[WAR] Pandemic Legion declares war on the imposter legion

Without giving out too much, yes, we've thought through this war quite a lot. We know how to kill them and we will. Even so, we've already won. They've removed their clan tags in shame, and some of them have even changed their names in order to hide from us. They're making excuses in public forums and threads in a vain attempt to clear their name. Their accusations have not only been proven false, but have even backfired on them. They are afraid of us, terrified of us, and they know it. Even their hurf-blurf on the forums is transparent and we all know what they really think. All this has only caused to hurt them even more, and I only set things in motion. They provided all the fuel to the fire themselves. Anyone who knows about Pandemic Legion knows that we thrive on drama. All the crying from the pubbies on this forum and others fuel us. And the best thing is, I only had to set up the stage. All the drama played out on its own. And Nomad, thank you for satisfying two of my demands. The third demand will be settled on the field of battle, because there will be a war. And, I've already won. Victorious Love and Theater, Hurfblurf-Marshall Palli 'IWON' Treponema -

Actually, I think you're wrong. I think DayZ is exactly the right mod for this. This is a sandbox environment where the players make the rules, not a controlled railshooter or a confined space twitch-FPS. This is where we, the players, decide the rules of the war, and how it's develops. In the defined-gameplay type of games, such as WoW (aka Battlegrounds), BF3, TF2 etc, there are defined teams. These teams know to go shoot anyone who isn't showing their colors. We already have so many of those games, and many of us are bored of it. Sure, it may be fun for a bit, but in the long run, it just gets repetitive. In a sandbox style game, however, such as DayZ or EVE Online, the conflicts are defined by the players, as are the allegiances and goals. There's no set time limit or number of tickets to reach. There's no pre-defined GOAL for a war, upon which all players get a scoreboard and get happy about their accomplishments. Instead, in this kind of games, a war is decided on by the participants. This can create wars where both sides are winners, or both sides are the losers. Or why even restrict it to two sides? Perhaps one of the belligerents bring in their friends, to bolster their ranks. Perhaps one of the individuals is working for the other side? This is how epic stories are made, epic stories such as the ones that have defined DayZ so far. Look at all the stories of survival, betrayal, victory against uncertain odds, or defeats at the very last minute. This is what a sandbox environment is all about. And this is why DayZ is exactly the right kind of mod for a war such as this. Regards, Seriousposting-Marshall Palli 'Not trolling' Treponema -

Yes, poor Evan. :( I have to admit I felt a little bad for killing him right after he patched up our operative. :( -

Please refrain from accusing the imposter legion of hacking. There is absolutely no proof that the imposter legion is responsible for any hacking at this point. The One True Glorious Pandemic Legion has gone to war with the imposter legion for their hurtful words on a public forum. Until they can heal our wounded hearts by a peace offering of love and friendship (plus ammo), we shall wage unrestricted war against them (unless we're distracted by other stuff such as streamsniping PC gamer "journalists"). Dear Mr Nomad Duder, I did not, in any way, mention your clan's name in association with the hacked server. Toodlidoo, Bling-marshal Pallidumb 'Goldilocks' Treponema -

The imposter legion has failed to answer to our demands. Perhaps the fact that their accusations against us were not only highly unfounded, but that the hacking witnessed by one of our operatives occurred on a server, owned by a clan to be unnamed to protect the presumed innocent, have shamed them into silence. As such, a state of war shall now exist between Pandemic Legion and the imposter legion until such a time that our demands are met, or we get bored, whichever comes first. Hugs and kisses, Z-Marshall Palli '♥♥♥' Treponema -
The problem you're facing is that this is not a coop mod. It's a free-for-all sandbox mod. The setting for this mod is survival, at any means possible. For some, that means being friendly, cooperating or staying at a distance. For others, this means murder, loot and pillage. That is the nature of the mod. If this is not for you, look at the mod stickied at the top of this forum. That's a coop or singleplayer mod for you.

Obligatory answer: If you can't handle permadeath and non-consentual PVP, go play BF3 or COD etc. This question has been asked over and over. The answer is that this is a sandbox mod about survival. Player killing is an integral part of this setting. Don't like bandits? Shoot the bandits before they can shoot you, and take their gear. The nature of this mod also makes it impossible to separate the servers from PVE and PVP without sharding the whole gameworld, and sharding is not part of the scope of this mod. Due to the central database, creating non-PVP servers would give PVPers the ability to safely farm equipment on PVE servers, then switch to PVP servers and kill everyone. Sharding would also massively increase the workload required by the DayZ team, who are already overworked as it is.

I for one thank you, Rocket, and all the other DayZ staff. I've administered data centers for big launches, and I know firsthand how stressful it can be not only in terms of administering the hardware, software and code, but also to handle all the emails, phonecalls and conversations. If needed, I'd be happy to offer my services in any form I can.

How is it in effect if no one else can affect the sandbox? Would it not be so much better if the sandbox would allow for all kinds of interaction? What if I want to mess with both "clans" that are warring? What if another group wants to join in? Just keep it in the sandbox instead of trying to fence it in.

Are you asking the imposter legion, or the One True Glorious Pandemic Legion? If it's the latter, I'm six and a half. -
The reason why it won't work is because you're taking a sandbox game (DayZ) and turning it into a team deathmatch. You no longer have a sandbox. EVE Online is a sandbox game. We handle wars just fine without having to fence anything in. Our wars are some of the biggest in gaming, with tens of thousands of players involed on either side. There's treachery, backstabbings, theft, scams and tears, all due to the sandbox nature of the game. That's how you do wars in a sandbox game, by letting the sandbox be the battlefield, not by fencing it in and establishing rules that take away from the sandbox nature. Oh, and... you're a poopyhead.
-
Oh, so what would be the point of that? Stop fencing in the sandbox.

It seems that the imposter legion, previously shamefully displaying their tags on servers everywhere, have elected to remove their clan tags from their names. Why is that? Have no fear though, we have a list of all Legion members and will be actively hunting them down should our demands not be met. Should any individual member of the imposter legion wish to escape our rightful retribution, please PM me on these forums and I shall be merciful. Love and sparkly rainbows, Z-Marshal Pallidum 'Snuggliwuggins' Treponema -
Awesome. So, I find a team, "wardec" them, then both teams can loot at their leisure. :)
-
So, basically you want to take a sandbox and fence it off? So, I "wardec" some pubbie clan, we get a dedicated server just to ourselves, then we can freely go around looting every single good loot location without anyone else being able to get onto our server? Sounds awesome and not exploitable at all. ;)
