Last night, I set out to reverse-rob players. That's where I run up to a player, tell them to put their hands down, and then I give them stuff from my inventory. Typically, while holding a zucchini as a "weapon". I actually did better than I expected, with only one player deciding to kill me, and he did so after shaving my face. It was weird, but whatever. When he decided to attack, I responded by giving him a few jabs with my trusty Zucchini, but alas, his stone knife proved more lethal. I Ihink I'm going to try and press-gang my next victim into joining my campaign of coastline antics—we'll have to see how that goes. So if you see a player with minimal pants and a piece of fruit jogging your way, be warned: you could be in for a reverse robbery.

Don't worry, I haven't got enough sense to play this game safely ;)

I had been running around Svetloyarsk for an hour or so, but hadn't found anyone (despite 60-70 players being on the server). So I moved in to the airfield, where I found no one again, but did find a cool bit of construction at the ATC building. I pushed further inland to Krasnostav (where I FINALLY found some damn .380 rounds) but still hadn't found anyone. I did hear a couple of slow shots, like someone hunting maybe, in the distance, but couldn't place the origin. No follow up shots and all one caliber. Maybe 4 in total. I made my way to Black Mountain, to see if that was where the trade site was, but it wasn't there. I looked out from the top (more user construction there too—people have been busy on the UN server) and saw no signs of life. I worked my way West, toward the military site, and still hadn't seen any signs of players. I did hear some wolves though, so at least things were getting interesting. I was in the woods, running, when I heard an echo of my footsteps and turned to investigate. When I did (still unarmed, by the way) the guy was running behind me with a gun (smg of some sort, maybe?). He opened fire without a word and that was that. Upside: I finally found another player. Downside, it was just run-of-the-mill DayZ KOS'ing. No adventures to be had on that life. I'd actually just send a quick picture of the character to a buddy, so this is the kit I was rocking. https://imgur.com/a/JsXBkZB

I actually moved inland a bit and got KOS'ed by some guy who was all camo'd out. I was in a denim jacket and white skirt with bright yellow NBC boots and no visible weapons. No real challenge there, so I'm not sure what fun it really offered him.

That's Chernarus, though, isn't it?

If a player were to, hypothetically, loot Rify but then get catapulted down some stairs and flung overboard, would they leave a body? I spent a while running back to check, but couldn't find one anywhere in the water :(

I've started to bury a backpack every time I log out, as a way of testing persistence. The odds of a player finding it are slim, so barring a server issue, it should be there when I log back in. Maybe we need more data collection like this?

last night, I buried a backpack with a gas cylinder in it as a way of testing persistence. This morning, after the update, I logged back in and check if it was still there. To my surprise it was.

I actually thought that the PC gamer review was fairly honest. he accurately captured that the appeal of the game is to human interactions, and that despite their being numerous bugs, those bugs do not affect the interactions between players. if I were to review the game, and I am still a fan of it, I probably would have written a very similar review.

Raiding bases only when the owners are online
Survivor-Kyle replied to Nicklander's topic in General Discussion
I mean, it doesn't take much more than a brick to break into your house and Rob you while you're at work. I don't see why there would be a problem with people breaking into your base while you're not -
Can you manually edit the controls config file and then set it as read only?

The price held at one point after launch (during the free weekend) and then went up.
-
It seems to me, that an easy route would be to just make a new steam account and purchase the game that way.
-
in my experience, the farther Inland I went the more likely I was to find someone that would just shoot me in the face on sight.

Died of bleeding with full health, despite using two bandages
Survivor-Kyle replied to Survivor1431's topic in General Discussion
I got into an axe fight with some rando in Electro and needed 5 bandages to patch myself up afterwards. I'm definitely keeping more medical gear on hand now, as I was previously used to needing only a couple of bandages at any given time (I've not played in a while). -
I realize that this whole thread has sort of gone off the rails, but especially on the most recent versions, night is definitely playable. Light sources provide adequate illumination and finding another flare/lamp/sticks and rags is trivial. I also appreciate that they adjusted it so that you can strike while pointing a flashlight (where as a week ago, you'd have to spot the zombie then put your hands up—which pointed the light away—and blindly swing.) If you haven't tried it in 1.0, I'd suggest you give night another go.
-
Did you place the bandages in your hand and use left mouse to bandage? I believe you can have multiple wounds now, as well. As to the source, that's harder to say/know.

As we feared, 1.0 is buggy w/ zombies stuck in ground, glitchy, and problematic
Survivor-Kyle replied to redmantab's topic in General Discussion
The zombies were working well last night, so hopefully they can fix that quickly. The FPS issue has been fixed. Official word is to exit steam (entirely) and then launch the game. -

They definitely climbed fences on last night's exp version.
-
I just played on the new exp version and night was actually enjoyable (for a change!) Still dark as all get out, but lighting did enough to make it fun. Much improved, in that regard.
-
I forgot to add: Headlamp now beams light directly out the *top* of your head. Still useless, but at least it's not the back of the head, like before!
-
I was able to get into a server, but when I attempted to *change* servers, it crashed. All subsequent attempts to join a game resulted in crashes. I am currently unable to play on an experimental server.

The difference is that, even in total darkness, you can tell if you've been running against a fence or wall for the last 5 minutes.
