  1. [disclaimer] I got griefed today and it just really got to me. I'm going to rant about it, because I just need to get it off my chest. [/disclaimer] 1.7.2.3 has been really unstable on my system and so it took me over an hour to finally connect to a server today (lots of loading screens, etc). Once I get in I get teleported to a random map point. Whatever, I'll go from here. 5 mins later the server reboots, and won't connect, so I move to another one. I start out as a fresh spawn on the coast (okay...) I start inland and realize that this server is not rendering buildings. They exist, I just cannot see them. So I moved to another server. By this point I've been trying to play for over 2 hours. Upon connecting I am greeted by another blank coast and new character screen (I have yet to actually die, I just keep getting the new spawn screen). I'm just outside Electro, so I dash into town and hit up the hospital. From there I run into the church. Suddenly I notice another person in the church with me (he may have just logged in, or the game may have just not rendered him prior to that). I call out friendly and tell him I have nothing to shoot him with, because I've just spawned. He does the salute and wiggle, and we trade a few words over direct chat. I told him that the hospital was clear and that I'd broken a window if he needed anything. I started toward the door, still watching him, and then he shot me in the face. WHY? Why do you have to shoot a fresh spawn with NOTHING. The next spawn for me was bugged again so I said Fuck it and shut it off. I spend most of my time at the hospital visiting my kids, and so I have very little time to play the game. I can tolerate the bugs and, hell, I even LIKE it when a bandit shoots at me from a sniper spot or sneaks up on me and takes me out SEAL style; it adds to the game. But shooting a freshly spawned player just because, after having a brief conversation with them... I just don't get it. It fucking sucks, man.

Faint everytime I spawn on a server.

It happened to me on 1.7.2.3 as well. I was definitely not in shock or bleeding, logged out to answer a phone call, and was greeted with a 5+ min hourglass when I returned.

reconnect to the server, it will give your basic local in the bottom corner.

Want to make a difference in DayZ?

Minor Update: The concept is not dead, I've just been tied up with constant trips to the hospital (IRL), where my twins are. They were a bit too eager to meet me and came a few weeks early. They are well, but they get priority on my free time :) I'll try to get the steam group up and running in the next day or so, definitely by the weekend. Stay tuned!

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

I'll be starting a new medic in an hour or so. Depending on where I spawn, and how it goes, I may be able to help a few if you in cherno/electro. That said, your chances of survival are monumentally improved by crawling to a safer location.
  6. Admins have basically the same abilities as a regular player. There is no magical admin "find ural" button.

Mr.Hacker People will flee the server in terror.

    We apologise for destroying you.

See, this is the sort of think I like. You could have offed them straight away, but you gave them the benefit of the doubt. Thank you good sir, for playing the game well.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

I hedged my bets and stashed most of my meds in a mobile hospital site, prior to getting killed last night. There are epis, morphine, and blood bags stashed there (about 5mins from Novy Sobor). If you still need assistance PM me and I'll tell you where it's at. It'll be a dry run for my larger FreeLoader's concept.
  10. So I was waiting near a deerstand to a give some antibiotics to a patient when I got lit up by an unseen assailent. It took him several shots (but with an automatic weapon, so it was fast) to drop me, and I had enough time to alt+f4 my way to safety, but I just took the murder like a man. If you were the guy who killed Dr Carebear MD, I hope those meds serve you well (I'd have just given them to you if you'd asked). To the rest of the bandits out there, thanks for giving me an adrenaline rush and teaching me to be even more stealthy. May my next guy live past the 15 day mark.

Killed by a bandit outside of Berezino

I was actually hoping to find the guy who shot me. I met up with a different patient a couple days ago and we couldn't get direct communication to work. I just wanted to ask my killer if he saw me broadcast "marco..." prior to the gunfire.

US7xx (I think 715)? There would have been a second guy soon after, got his legs shot out from under him. Either way, I appreciate the beans.

No worries man. That guy had been around for 15 days (which is 14 days 23 hours longer than Soulshaper usually makes it between deaths ;) ). Honestly the funnest part for me is the initial gear-up, where I mad-dash through electro to score a bag and first round of meds. Now I get to do it over again.

While attempting to get some Antibiotics to "(ABR) Sam", I was gunned down by an unseen assailant. I heard breath noises, and assumed it was Sam, but it wasn't (apparently). To whomever it was that killed me, I hope you needed those supplies.

I tried to help Ronnie, but he passed away before I could offer aid. Left a remote site for he and his friend, should they venture back that direction.

I have some antibiotics, but another player is in line for them first. If he flakes they are yours.

You are going to have a hard time getting a medic to travel to a death trap, within a death trap. You will get much more attention if you crawl out of there and into a safe® location.

    What a rush (US79 TX3)

Today I was waiting for a friend to meet me in Msta before heading north. He got a bit lost along the way so I was just chilling and hanging out in the woods south of town (near the deer stands), when I heard 3 shots in quick succession. My heart stopped. There was another survivor near by. Where did the shots come from? How close were they? What/who were they shooting at? I hit the deck and and took cover, after I was sure I wasn't the intended target I began a slow, careful, search for the shooter. Suddenly I spotted him. Running along, alone, through the tree line. He was clearly unaware of my presence. I drew a bead on him with my AKM and then I didn't fire. Instead I called out over DC, "I have you in my crosshairs. Don't move or I'll shoot!" He froze. I continued, "Turn to your left and walk down the hill. Don't stop." He turned right. I assume he was just confused. Perhaps he was actually looking for me to assess the situation. I fired a shot at him, but missed (sight was zeroed at 300m, and we were much closer than that. My fault, and potentially a fatal mistake). I'm glad it missed. "Turn around a walk away. I don't want to kill you." Then he asked me if I needed anything. That felt too much like a trap to me. I read the forums, I know that 99.995% of players are back-stabbing pieces of trash. So I told him I was fine, just a bit paranoid. He walked off, and I followed him with my cross hairs until he disappeared. Then I booked it out of the area. WHAT A RUSH. If I had just shot him I'd have missed out on that crazy tension. On the blood pressure raising standoff. I don't see why people just KoS; they're missing out on so much of the interpersonal dynamics that this game creates. This is the 6th person I've encountered, the 6th that I've not killed, and the 4th to not shoot me. It's not a terrible record, and one that I'm proud of. Any other players still trying to not KoS these days?

    Sick of BANDITS

Not all Carebears are out gunned. Look at RMG and Treeside Trade Co. Both fit the criteria as being Carebears, and both are MASSIVELY organized and capable of high-profile defensive actions. I'd argue that most of the solo survivors out there, the ones who get gunned down, get upset, and complain here on the forums, are not really carebears (because they'd gun down another player if they had a chance and motive). Carebears are the ones who go out of their way to help other players and organized carebears enjoy the challenge that organized bandits present.

    Sick of BANDITS

I know that someone might just shoot me any way, it's part of things. I still choose to play with humanity. All I can lose is gear, and the feeling I get from helping strangers, plus those tense moments during the interaction, are totally worth it. I'd part with my AK because I rarely use it. I've got a hatchet for zombies and a pistol if I need a little range. Guns are everywhere, if you look around a bit.

    Sick of BANDITS

Don't get discouraged. Shit happens, but it happens most often around cherno and electro. Try heading north and looting lower population areas. If you find yourself in the north east, ill give you my map, watch, plenty of meds and even my AK. PvP/bandits add a huge amount to the game, you just have to learn how to survive around them. I've been playing for months now and have been PKed twice and commuted zero murders myself. Yet I run into population centers all the time to stock up on meds and to supplies. You just need to ask yourself why you got killed and how, next time, you.can avoid that situation.
  23. Survivor-Kyle

    I feel stupid.

I guess the tl;dr of the above is that, you get out of DayZ whatever you put in. DCing to avoid the most terrifying aspects of the game reduces it to being every other game out there, with no risks and superficial rewards.

    I feel stupid.

Shards, to give a counter example/possibility, I'll tell you about my encounter last night. I was returning to my base after meeting up with a total stranger who needed a transfusion (medics ftw). I had my hatchet out and, despite thinking about how poor of a defensive position it put me in, I chose not to switch to my ak74. Not 2 mins later, I encountered another survivor in the woods. He was running a tangental course, wearing cammo, and I was sure he had seen me. I immediately changed course and sprinted away. I looked over my shoulder and saw that he was following me. I had no way to defend myself and wanted to disconnect so badly. I really didn't want to lose my 12 day old character to some poor decision and a random encounter. But I didn't DC. I ran like a mad man, I ziged and zaged, and I constantly watched over my shoulder. Eventually I didn't see him any more, so I proned under a tree and waited for a moment or two to be sure he'd given up. No shots were fired, I learned a valuable lesson about preparedness, and I realized that I am able to evade a hostile player, just like I would a zombie. If I'd just DCed, I'd know none of that, and I'd have denied myself that aspect of the game.

Why go to Elektro or Cherno

This. Being a medic means you have to stock up somewhere. Plus you end up close to most of your patients, so you know, it's convenient.
