if they don't like to be farmed, people can always form their own four-man squad and own the sh*t out of them. well not really, but they can try. i would be upset too in sacriels circumstance, being killed is never fun, except for the one who got the kill. but instead of being a wussie and whine about bandits and killing on sight, i'd get back there with the four-man squad and set some things right.

Does anyone else feel bad murdering the guy trying to help you?
Azrail (DayZ) replied to ComradeAri's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
just shoot everything on sight and be save. -
this is full of love 1.7.3 already was, but 1.7.4 is just madness. any possible annoying thing in dayz would be fixed with this. can not commend in that thread, so request goes here. i hope we will see this to show up in the release for 1.7.4 (taken from DayZ Redux): since the save button is getting removed i will assume yes! oh and what about female characters changing skins?! pretty please? oh the joy, i can not picture this yet D:

spawn with a brain and make your own rollplay no really, you don't need to spawn with something to make it the subject of your playstyle

Namalsk map question, doesn't fireplace heat the body in the mountains?
Azrail (DayZ) replied to decoman's topic in New Player Discussion
no i think temperature in namalsk is borked somehow, even if you take a heatpack you be back at bibbering in no time, same with warming yourself at a fireplace. maybe its by design, namalsk is supposed to be a hardcore pvp map. then again i had not much pvp there yet, its a just tad toooo hardcore for my liking. where i am glad that we now get 1.7.3 to play with :D -
The majority is still 1.7.6
Azrail (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
its 1.7.2.6, and mostlikely its because community grew inactive over the past weeks due to "radio silence" once they witness what they miss out on, they be back in action in no time D: -
people can always go and organize an even it they so desire. it does not even need an official sticky to do that. having your own server would help big time, but i am sure you can make something out with the admin of your favorite server, for example invite people to an event at a given date/time via ingame announcements. evidence that this works can be found via youtube. look for "dayz event", lots of examples. you even said it yourself. the problem is, it needs someone to organize, and stand up for it. and usually people don't want to organize, they want stuff to be organized for them.

my hack-free-sop basically looks like this: look for the server with the most players and enough free slots for me and ma mates. join. i only died twice to cheaters so far, playing since 1.7.0. and i could have avoided both death without alt+f4, but i simply suck :D and i don't even care that much anyways, although i lost some pretty high-end gear there. if i die i can get my stuff back on the same, or at the latest on the next day. good teamwork is golden. the key is not to find the 100% hack free server, which obviously doesn't exist. also not to beg for the ultimate anti-cheat solution, which obvously will not come (for this mod). its about accepting the fact that this is a mod in alpha stage, provided to you for free, with the most kickass gameplay ever came to play. the arma2 engine invites hackers and cheaters with open arms, that is because it never made much sense to cheat in the original arma2. which is why we soon™ will get a dayz standalone game, which will hopefully provide a solution to this. just simply appreciate the fact that you can play this mod to begin with, and start over new if you have to. everyone does. except those whom choose to ragequit. up to you. editZ: also want to mention my "healthy anti-bandit mindset", which can be applied to cheaters 1:1. if you play this game to just have fun, you already have the advantage over bandits (cheaters), because they have no fun playing this game without killing (cheating), they have to try and destroy your fun as a compensation. thats called griefing. griefing is a mindgame, and as like with every game, it always requires two people to play a mindgame. bandit (cheater) kills you, just smile and start over new. sounds hard, works easy. i speak from exeperience D: in case of a cheater, and in case chat is working, congratulate them on the kill and make it clear that you're honest about it. they may act like as if they don't care but its simple math: if you cheat to annoy people, and people ain't annoyed by your cheat, you FAIL. against bandits it will work different because banditry is a legit playstyle and part of the game. but it would still allow for a friendly banter, which is always better then swearing at each other and look like 10 year old kids in preschool. if everyone would act like that, cheating and banditry wouldn't be an issue.

or just suck it up like everyone else has to *caugh* alpha *caugh* standalone *caugh*caugh* cool story anyways, does that sort of stuff happen everyday to you? any secret setting i need to activate? like "Allow hacks [check]" because i still seem to be missing out :(

he is asking if your windows user account has write access on the arma 2 installation folder, which shouldn't matter in your case. actually, its a hive issue. your stuff is saved on the hive, a central database for everything, which is under heavy permanent stress, which can cause extrem delay or even data loss. if you keep loosing your stuff over a longer time, something prevents your data to be stored on the hive. did you try different servers? did you try on official/public servers? did you try on latest arma/dayz versions? i advice to use dayzcommander, that will make everything dayz related super easy. that way you can also make sure you play on up-to-date and official servers, first thing you should do if something isn't working as expected.

does that actually work? we tried a long long time ago and i think it didn't... might be wrong though. if it does work, everything is alright.
-
throwing a tin can might do some minor damage. throwing a smoke is also tactical element of combat (and can do severe damage to buildings xD) i fail to see how throwing a flare is combat related though. usually, in a fight is where i actually don't want to use these things. i guess activating a chemlight will flag me too? :S

wth kind of spam was that..... @OP how about the admin monitoring / ingame coverage? -
the point is, you are supposed to play this game without knowing these values. if you play for score, should probably stick with tetris. dayz is about the experience, not how many headshots you place on zeds or if you have a million negative humanity, noone actually cares. the debug monitor is actually meant for what its name is saying: debugging. notice how the values changed over time? it was a tool for rocket to keep track of important values and see if the changes he made are working as expected. i guess he kept it for internal testing, i don't think it should have ever been available to us in the first place. now its gone and i like, though i will admit having it up there was quite handy. in dayz we usually don't get what we want, deal with it.

[Video] DayZ Community Dev Update: 1.7.3. Zombie Death Animations
Azrail (DayZ) replied to leadz's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
looks too good to be legit its a trap -
realistic gore, its just not that much realistic if you take a shot in your foot and a fontain of blood shoots out of your torso. if damage is applied to a limb, it should respond accordingly - i.e. if the force is strong enough, it should fly off or explode into pieces. hopefully the new engine will support some nice ragdoll and gore D:

What Does DayZ Mean To You? (PvP or Survival)
Azrail (DayZ) replied to An_Atomic_Penguin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ means to me... most epic fun ever had in game, and nothing can possibly come close to that ever. pvp and survival both share their part within, but that can not be measured in numbers. <3 -
there is this thing about the radio tower its haunted and creepy and all sorts of things will happen when you go there so a guy who frequently played with us a while ago wanted to REALLY know about the radio tower and whats up with all the hype so we had this helicopter and dropped him near the tower, while we went on to another mission. he went there and was really scared what would happen. granted, we talked to him the whole time over ts and trolled him with scary shit, and then one guy told him to go up to the platform, approach the edge and when reaching it, immediatly press the step-over button. the whole ts, around 8 guys on at that time i think, were laughing their asses off when we hear him go "ahhh shit, i am dead, really funny" moments like that make dayz the most epic game ever. nothing will ever compare.

VAC is an anti cheat protection produced by valve, for valve Why on earth would BI jump on a completely different, and presumably incompatible anticheat bandwaggon, when they have a proper and working anticheat solution at hand? -
Pending Update: Build 1.7.3 (community edition)
Azrail (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
you can not sort this out. even if there was a way to recognize if people loose their connection, then people could just pull the connection to their router to force combat log and problem would persist. what i would advice is the following solution, if it is possible: if one leaves the game without a proper logout, he doesn't die, but gets a knock out and remains ingame as a killable object for 3 minutes. if its possible to leave the dead body ingame to loot, could also trigger a kill on that player if bullets penetrate the body. if that player logs back in, he remains unconscious until the timer has passed. pretty much what we already have right now, just better. this will help if you randomly loose connection, but wont allow people to glitch out of tough situations, and other players will still get their kill if you intentional or unintentional leave the game. so obviously, if you loose internet connection often, dayz is unfortunatly not gonna work that well for you, too bad! still, its obviously the lesser evil. get a better connection, suck it up or give me your stuff before you ragequit. -
worked flawless upon first attempt. threw on dayz commander after a few weeks off, folks were playing namalsk so i had to install everything first. took a few minutes to install. joining a server takes a bit longer then on the public hive, but thats to be expected i guess. that island kicks some serious butt. if you find food that is.
