  1. i like to play at night. 1) i never ran into another player with NVG. i have been playing at night in cherno, elektro, berenzino, in the woods, along the coast, in small towns, north, east and west. i have played through full nights, without any contact at all, plenty times. maybe i'm just lucky. 2) i can hear zombies at night, just as at day. dayz not only about what you see. also zombies won't see as good as in daylight. 3) i have no trouble finding a full server with night time. and even on full servers. to find another player you need to go to hotspots or just be very lucky, again the same as at daylight. but once you get familiar with night like me, you can use it to your advantage against players who are not so comfy with it.
  2. I try to meet my folks at NE airfield. I spawned in balota, so its quite a run, but lucky i find a heli crashsite along my path! pick up a M249 with 400 rounds, woot! bash, get my legs broken by a zombie. lucky again, the crashsite spawns med supplies, so i now have enough morphine to fix a good bunch of broken bones. I move onwards, and after like 2-3 minutes i spot something, looks like hiding between two trees, mostlikely just another random stone, but i go to check it out. My lord, a fully repaired ATV on half fuel, filled to the max with weapons and ammo and stuff, but it was stuck between the trees. While i am trying to get it out, a warning in red appears that the server is going to restart in 2 minutes. I decide to hide nearby and try again after restart. I rejoin a couple minutes late, and first thing i see after spawn is one, two, three players furiously roaming the vicinity. Looks like they heard the car being started and rushed to investigate after the restart. Looks like i am well hidden, three players yet couldn't spot me under that tree, but it appears they suspect someone to still be close as they keep on searching. I carefully crawl backwards and try to get a safe distance. I quickly sift through my options, looks like its run or gun. While i would really like to get onwards to the airfield, the chance is too good to let it slip. I have a m249 with 400 rounds, no zed close, but 3 well equiped players against me. It looks like they are busy with the car now. I scan the area and see nothing, so i approach the ATV and see two players gathering under the trees. I open fire, and put a burst in each of them. I think i see them dropping as i hear 3 shots from the right and i am dead. The third guy flanked me. Schnitz, should have scouted a bit more before jumping the gun... But the server restart really messed it up, i think i would have gotten away with it.

I am confused as to how that would be unbalanced... it is to big to go as a secondary weapon. there is a reason why secondary weapons are always small and handy, hence handguns. a knife should fit in the secondary slot, and i will bet we get to see this implemented later on. drop something unimportant, drop primary gun on the loot, remove axe from toolbelt, toggle weapon and reload. if you get used to it, it only takes a few clicks and a few seconds to do.
  4. This, and more. To have our testing mean anything, we need to test it the way gameplay was intended. If you test stuff on a non-zed server, or on a no-pk server, you might never know what bugs might occur if you tested on a standard server. For example, servers with zeds will obviously require more ressources then servers without zeds. servers without pk will greatly impact the balance of quantity/quality of loot being distributed among players. I guess you get the idea. So, if you absolutely want to play on these servers with only testing in mind (sure all of you do, right?), please rethink your intend and avoid them.

The spawnrate of matchbox is totally screwed. playing for a few weeks now, i found more sniper rifles then matchboxes. i don't think its just me, because i hear other people having similiar problems. Together with a knife and a hatchet, the matchbox is the most important thing one needs to survive. Knifes and hatchets i will find plenty while i work my way up north. but they are both useless without a matchbox. Nothing like running accross the map, starving to death, or having a 3 digit blood value, with a backpack full of useless raw meat. Either, raise the spawnrate of matchbox, or give us alternate ways. For example, if you have a binocular (also more common then a matchbox), you can use the lens to make fire - requires LOS on sun from your current position (so wont work at night or cloudy days) and process will take 60 seconds. Another possible solution would be flares, but it would be onetime use, so if you use a flare to enlight a fire, its gone. Last but not least, i think has been suggested before - let us eat raw meat, with a 15% possibility to catch an infection. I would rather like to see these alternate ways implemented, but i guess it will require much more work.

    while i actually love the no-weapon-spawn, it became ultimately harder to survive due to the huge gap between blood loss/blood regain capabilities. i have no trouble to survive until i found a gun and ammo, but i will usually have lost at least half my blood, and it is literally impossible to recover from that, unless you find bloodpacks and a trustable fellow player (not so common), or happen to find knife/hatchet/matchbox and go hunt some wildlife. so i will encounter the same problem as before, just a lot earlier now. i roam the map from south to north, east to west, and i literally visit every single loot spot which has a chance to spawn a matchbox, supermarkets included. as per loottable known to public, the matchbox has a chance of 1,68% to spawn. alicepacks, maps, binoculars, lee enfield, crossbow, all have the same or even less chance to spawn, and still i find plenty of those in a single day, while i still have not found one matchbox within weeks. this isn't just bad luck, something is wrong here. now, the random spawn stuff is a good thing in my opinion, rare items need to stay rare, but not for key items which are MUST HAVE to survive. knife and hatchet are fine as they are now (wtf, hatchet is now more common then tin cans in some areas) we just really need a fix on the matchbox. i understand that an unlimited matchbox is a bit to valuable for a high chance of spawn, so maybe we can tweak it a little? like this: limited use per matchbox (random, 5-20 uses per box. can be merged with other matchboxes to save inventory slots. they have at least a 25% chance to spawn in a supermarket or church. i think these have been suggested already, this just to sum it up. this would make surviving at the very least possible.

    if someone plants wire, he still has to get out, so there is a way to get in. so it works for me anyways, no problem looting cherno/elektro.

    looks like you don't even know arma, better educate yourself before you talk nonsense in offtopic, i didn't even use one and already know what that guy was talking about... back to topic: can anyone explain in detail how this stuff works? i have seen a fence in my very first days, i guess its one time use? if i have the shovel and a sandbag, how much of a wall can i build with that? i guess if i need like 20 sandbags to build a 1m x 1m wall its not gonna pay off :S also, is there any limitation to place sandbags? like build them next to trees to incorporate them into a wall, or build them at castle gates etc.. can you stack multiple walls? like build one, and build another one on top? will this stuff survive server restarts like tents? maybe someone could place a tutorial on youtube :)

    Just got an SSD, wiping old drive

    if it works like real steam games, you can make a backup of arma and restore the backup on your other harddrive. edit: yep, just checked, there should be an option to "backup game files", not sure how this will work out with the mods though. good luck there. it's still beyond me why you would want to put your games NOT on your ssd. your character and stuff is stored server side.

  13. it looks like we even got none less then THREE official methods to install this thing. two of them are working, i have done them myself. they obviously tried none of them. now if one keeps trolling and spitting nonsense, he might want to expect some hostile replies. welcome to the internet.

  15. its your problem then, because right now, i have none of that. i know plenty friends who play dayz now and they have none of that either. sometimes it hangs on the loading screen, but if i reload arma it works 9 out of 10 times. it used to be a LOT more troublesome then few weeks ago, and even then i got it to work without crying in forums like a 10 year old. hell what am i saying, a 10 year old would get this to work before you do. advice for today: fix shit on your end and stop trolling. /thread

    exciting. let's see how this works out. thanks rocket <3 edit: more reason to kill someone else? not. guy with a handgun: could be a thread, kill him guy without a handgun: can't be a thread, might leave alive (stealing beans from unarmed people is not that much fun) of course, bandits will still be bandits, but this will never change.

    It's not a game, its a sim I am sure Rocket is considering the constructive feedback, but he still won't give in to the utter ammount of nonsense in there. thats why this mod ROCKS, and it will stay this way. most of the feedback is not taking the spirit of this mod into consideration, its all about "I WANT EPIC PEWPEW" I just read about the 1.7.1. change and i approve. not because i like the change (i would, with some adjustments). i just like the way rocket continues to build this HIS way, not the way your average fps kiddie would like to have it. if rocket would give in to the carebear stuff, YES - more people will come and play, dayz will get more famous and might even become the most sold sim ever, who knows? but it won't be dayz, it will be your average fps shooter with zombies on a large map, $$$ signs appearing wherever they removed a part of its former soul. i don't think so, carebears, you know where the door is. raging carebears even moreso.
  18. i think your internet is not the problem. i have a 128mbit line and more then often encounter tough lag, up to a point where pvp/groupplay becomes impossible. its an alpha test, deal with it.
