  1. Please show me the stats on that because I'll call bullshit first before anyone else. They if anything have already jumped the shark. You don't notice all the empty servers?
  2. We cancelled our retail server too. Its just a joke and I'll be trying to mod my own version from this point on. Rocket, please go back to the army. Go shoot some shit. Leave the games to actual devs.
  3. This move is going to ruin the game. I called it a fucking while ago that this was rocket & co. cashing in on his game way too early. Even his friends bailed and started hosting companies to make quick cash. With the amount of control server owners now get I cannot see why anyone in their right mind would run a dayz server let alone pay for one. You can't even ban players abusing things? Just think about that. Enjoy your 1 year of fame rocket lol
  4. I like all my posts getting locked and then hosting 3 servers and all get full to the rim in 2 hours. It really is sad you guys won't support the private HIVE system and make us edit files for our non-hive. I have 3-4 blades waiting to run more servers on my HIVE that mimics the official HIVE with the addition of a few more vehicles. Why not just give us the build and that way I could give you feedback at the code and help? Most of my users are playing on my servers because they want to play your fantastic game without having to wait 5 minutes to load in on the incredibly incredibly terrible HIVE system.

    Desync?

IT has to deal with the distance/load on the HIVE server. The more distance from the HIVE server the more latency. It's even more affected by players joining laggier servers. If there was more than one HIVE database this issue would be dramatically lessened as not every person in the UK, US, and the rest of the EU would be bombing one server. Not to mention the HIVE servers would be closer to the actual game servers and target population. It even allows multiple characters! I can't wait for the Russians to get pissed again and shut all of DayZ down for a day or two, making the staff realize they put way too much weight on one server. Just let me know who decided to setup this way and I'll make sure he doesn't work around any of my clients in silicon valley, lol. Terrible setup with no thought/roadmap at all.
  6. Do not update to 1.7.2. there are some very serious server issues still and I really don't see a reason to host it until a hotfix comes out later this week. In the meantime, play 1.7.1.5! It isn't the best ever but it for sure beats 1.7.2. My friends refuse to patch to 1.7.2 after one of them did and played with the zombies. They are pretty broken atm along with some server latency issues.
  7. I laugh every time I read shit like this. It is really sad that people claim multiple HIVE servers would have admins abusing them, but with this kind of shit I don't see how it could get any worse. The admin has everyone on that server by the balls, semi-legally too. He could just claim it was the connection. Watching this game go further and further downhill is fun. /popcorn

    What exactly is going on?

What is going on is the HIVE master server (The MYSQL server that takes requests from EVERY SERVER) is being flooded with requests from people trying to log in and possibly even the downloading of new patch files. If they DID host the patch files and the HIVE server on the same line then that is just horrid planning. If they didn't then the HIVE server is simply getting too many concurrent requests to process them efficiently, or could be turned off because of patch issues. In layman's terms the server is getting legitimately DDOSed. There is only ONE server to store all character data (unless you connect to a private, Non-hive server). I keep suggesting multiple HIVE servers as this would allow not only better pings for servers, multiple characters, and less chance of server failure on patch day. Every time me or anyone else suggests this the post gets locked or just vanishes from the forum, most likely because of the profiteering happening off this game and it's huge surge in popularity. The only excuse I've heard is that they want to release things on their own timeframe, which does not make much sense considering if they ran multiple HIVE servers they wouldn't need to worry so much about the servers as they could be outsourced to reliable hosts. They even told me I was stealing by trying to host my own private HIVE servers to avoid hackers and have multiple characters. THAT, is what is happening.

    All Servers Offline?

Glad we have one HIVE system and not multiple HIVE servers. This one HIVE system rather than multiple HIVE servers is obviously incredibly efficient. I've never seen any company that upgrades their hardware 6 times and it still fails even though they have plenty of data to prevent it (an accurate user count and average users gained/lost per week pretty much solves this). I would seriously think about who is running your server administration and question their choices. Can you guys hire me? I swear I won't fuck up worse than it already is.

    Why was this thread locked?

The mods here really lock threads whenever they want. Multiple HIVE threads have been just deleted and not even locked. Shame, really.
  11. This is again why I keep emphasizing the need for multiple hive servers. If you engineers end up doing this months later instead of now I'm going to laugh fucking hilariously. I'm amazed it hasn't been done yet.
  12. The only HIVE server is getting repeatedly taken advantage of in bed today. Would of been nice to have more than one.

    Dear Rocket..

fair enough. can you make my life a bit easier by supplying links to this information so i don't have to search? He linked his post which got locked for him bumping his own dumb ass post.. shows how much people actually care about your post lol.. NEXT! he linked a post to something he wrote, not official information, articles, or statistics/numbers that state or support what he is saying, that's what i'm asking for here. but... i... think you're cute... can we spoon? Did you even read the thread you stupid fuck? It explains quite a bit. You should probably pull the dayz t-shirt out of your fanboy asshole for a second and read it.

    Dear Rocket..

about what exactly? in general, no, i am not. if you'd like to have a discussion about this, i invite you to post your argument to the contrary with any evidence or citations to back your point. Ignoring the OP (He's really just trolling) it's already been explained that hackers do not develop on live DAYZ battleye protected servers. They just don't. End of story. Single Player was causing people to build hacks however and that is why it got removed. Security compromise? fucking please. Between the Russians shitting on HIVE servers and hackers turning this game into a joke (battleye is shit) I don't think you can tell me it's a security breach. I could script a hack blindfolded for the asseye if I was 14 and thought that kind of shit was cool and fun ruining peoples experience. It's a skiddies dream. fair enough. can you make my life a bit easier by supplying links to this information so i don't have to search? http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=30870 Here's a starter course. Had a few DayZ staffers post and then I get accused of stealing someones work. I didn't know hosting my own shit was stealing your work lol. What amuses me more is how many times it's been mentioned that dayZ wasn't even the first zombie mod for ARMA 2. Pot meet kettle?

    Dear Rocket..

Ive been in the gaming development industry for about a year and a half now. I understand we all WANT a smooth experience but we can't get everything a silver platter. There are many variables that come into play. Some computers will work seamlessly and some will cough up errors like nobodies business. Games/mods like this get big too quickly and fill up with impatient little COD kids that demand what they want when they want it. So issues like this are very normal. Ive been through worst, i.e - Minecraft 1.4, Ghost Recon future soldier, STALKER, Fallen Earth, etc was hell compared to this small server bug. Im also noticing that Day-z's MySQL databases are lacking ram. This will aid the player query issue. I believe each server should hold the player's info and then have the hive connect to each individual server. If the Day-Z dev team is worried about security then have the Hive brute force an ID tag from each server. If the server has a tag - Allow connection and gather data else Server is fraudulent or has a fraudulent player. The database is not low on RAM. Concurrent connections keep hammering them. No amount of fucking hardware/bandwidth in their budget will allow them to take that many concurrent connections without tripping the fuck out. They simply need to split the load at minimum with 2-3 HIVE servers. just TWO servers would mean half the load on each, AND would mean two characters per person. It's fucking so stupidly simple and yet it probably won't happen and then everyone will make servers. It already has started.

    Dear Rocket..

secondly, in response to this post. it's stealing his work because he had an overarching vision for this mod. it may change in time, with private servers being okay. as of right now though, private servers allow hackers to test out their code to break the experience for everyone. it's a security compromise. it's been stated before. the reason the other threads get deleted is because of rule #2 in the "read this before you post" sticky at the top of the general day z forum, which it seems like most people don't bother to read. please people, research a bit before you start making accusations/assumptions. ur shitting me right HAHA.. about what exactly? in general, no, i am not. if you'd like to have a discussion about this, i invite you to post your argument to the contrary with any evidence or citations to back your point. The only valid argument is rocket doesn't have enough time to set his vision out so maybe he has thought of multiple hive servers, but he's too busy replacing the previous 6 computers they friend (and the one that will die today) because they won't split the load.
  17. I'm glad he did all those interviews and flew around a fuck ton and then released this steamer of a patch. You guys must love him talking up big dreams in the interviews and then getting this lol.
  18. [Original Title: Hive Server Problems (want multiple chars? click here!)] Hello Gentlemen! So it has become pretty evident that the HIVE servers (The Database server/s that connect your character data to each hosted game server) are becoming increasingly bogged down. It's taking an absurdly long time to connect, when it isn't completely down from DDOSing or just too many users. I have read that the HIVE server hardware has failed a few times already. Aside from the constant lag from the HIVE server, some players would also like to have more than one actual character in DayZ without having to buy multiple CD keys. This is only feasible with multiple HIVE servers. My solution? break the HIVE servers up; divide the load. I'm currently running a test HIVE server (No you can't have the IP) and I get an amazing amount of compliments on load times even with meager upload and 100-200 people connecting. Quartering the traffic to each HIVE and keeping them unlinked could solve so much latency problems. This would also allow you to have HIVE databases for countries, rather than having one giant database on the west coast hosing everyone not around there. Another huge perk is having multiple characters. If there are 4 HIVE databases (all located around the world) people would be able to make more than one character; in this situation 4 characters would be possible. I'm not sure about you but I'd definitely enjoy having a character I could teach people on, and a character I could play bandit on etc. There are downsides, obviously. I will list a few arguments against running multiple HIVE servers. Running a private server increases the chances of hacking. Scripts will be made on a private server and ported over to official! (rocket) This will happen regardless of if I open a private server or not. Hackers will be hackers. I have a feeling this was thrown in there just because its the only valid excuse I could find. Hackers would still just host their own private servers. The best security possible is keeping up to date and informed. Rocket makes no money off of DayZ and he offers the HIVE for free. It's rude to host private servers and bypass his set up system! Totally untrue in a sense. Rockets buddies seem to be rolling in cash considering it takes a licensing fee to run the server. I could be crazily wrong, but I'm pretty sure the webmaster here runs the DayZ licensing website. Besides that, If I run my own hive server then there should be NO reason I have to pay for a license; I'm not using any linked data! I'm in the end helping him by not loading his database up, instead loading mine. I see no issue sans him wanting to keep what bankroll he currently has set up rolling. It's too confusing for new users and will throw them off of playing and just ruins the game play in general. Admins would spawn items and stuff! Some truth and lies in this one. Aside from explaining what hive is and the difference between the two, there is no confusion. Anyone whom connects to MY servers gets their character from MY server, and official servers (HIVE) get theirs from rockets' database. What is not to get? On the admin side, yes admins CAN spawn items............but what kind of system admin is that? That is more on a person-to-person basis. Even on official hive servers you are now hearing of admins whom reset servers after they get killed. You just have to make sure no admin access/powers are given to anyone else but the main administrator (and never will be; EVER!). Finally, these HIVE offshoots could bring better gameplay to light. If enough people enjoy a certain HIVEserver vehicle spawn setup or such (vehicle spawns are controlled by HIVE server) devs could make changes accordingly. Tell me your thoughts; rip me to shreds! EDIT: It seems that there is less of an issue that I thought running a Non-HIVE server; large amounts of these servers have appeared overnight. The one I'm currently running has experienced a fourfold increase in playerbase. I'm ATM in the process of purchasing a dedicated server with 10TB of bandwidth to set up a secure secondary HIVE system (located in Los Angeles I think) for users whom want a second character or a safer more controlled experience in Day Z. With a Non-HIVE server you eliminate a large amount of server hopping and disconnecting players. Not to mention I can ban most hackers from my servers with ease instantly.
  19. Thanks for the support. I'd really like some official word on this as I think without some sort of guidance it could get messy over time.
  20. I'll be changing the header soon to reflect my server and instructing people to play on my servers if they want multiple characters or to simply have fun with friends on something secure. I'm going to wait a bit and see if I can get a definitive answer before I do but it's really getting unplayable. Every user whom hacks that joins my HIVE network pretty much gets banned right off the bat; only two issues left to solve (working on it). My users enjoy having more than the meager amount of vehicles spawned in Official. Aside from that they all tell me don't touch shit and just make sure vehicles and especially bikes are more prevalent. Not TOO many, but enough that at least each town has a vehicle or two hidden.
  21. I'm not sure but I went ahead and bought 10TB of line and a dedicated dual processor blade in downtown LA for hosting several servers and the database. I just simply cannot play official with the amount of hackers anymore.
  22. These servers are called Non-HIVE servers, and as far as I've seen they aren't really allowed but they aren't banned either. Check this thread for more info regarding this topic: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=30870
