Hello DayZ brothers. I have a question regarding Item Duping and/or Hacking. I'm what is considered a noob to ARMA2 and DayZ as I purchased the game simply to play the mod a few weeks ago now. I like to think I familiarized myself with the game fairly well to the point where I can easily answer newcomers' questions by memory; However, I have no idea what should be or not be in the game regarding items or vehicles.... I have read in various places as well as have been told via chat and by other DayZ players that if you pick up a duped or hacked item/vehicle that should not be in the game you will be banned without question. My question is... how am I supposed to know what is supposed and not supposed to be in the game? Even if I had a huge list of items that are "acceptable", it would be impossible to remember them all by heart and I cannot be alt+tabbing to check the list for confirmation every time I run across loot or a dead body. This frightens me because I don't want to come across a dead player body or kill a player myself only to think I hit the jackpot after finding some awesome sniper rifle or equipment tool of some kind only to find it was hacked into the game somehow and I was banned without even knowing what I was doing. If this is the way situations like these are handled, by just banning without question then I would say this is a serious problem to new players who have no idea such as myself. Can anyone please touch on this subject? I would like to note that this has NOT happened to me so I am not QQ'ing, I would just like to know in order to avoid such things if possible. ======= Several have suggested that I some how memorize the 'official' DayZ weapons wiki to confirm whether a weapon is valid or not found here: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Weapons However, I think we can all agree how terrible it would be to have to alt+tab out of the game just to confirm down the list of weapons to make sure it's okay. This would expand to being more trouble some when it involves weapons, items and vehicles if you had to constantly alt+tab out. Furthermore, the wiki page can be edited by anyone thus not being completely secure and the page is said to be official yet it clearly shows UNOFFICIAL. I did further investigation on the wiki page and came across this log by a moderator: "Incorrect data is being added Copenhagen and m4a1 holo sd dont exist in the game mp5sd is duplicated, we really need to do something about this, the site is being abused by people who dont know what they are talking about, i sometimes think that its done just to troll me :/ I protected the page so only admins can modify it to prevent abuse. I'll remove the Copenhagen, and I'll check the M4A1 Holo SD (since I think it's a valid weapon). The problem with the MP5SD is known and we're trying to fix it, since it's a database problem. - Grezvany13 02:54, 8 June 2012 (MDT) I deleted the "M4A1 Holo SD" page - sEi (Talk) 05:47, 8 June 2012 (MDT)" This doesn't really strike confidence in my mind for using such a tool. Can anyone of knowledge and authority please please please address my question. -Thank you

Nothing new or insightful to say. I recently lost my entire group of real life buddies who refuse to continue playing this game as well as hosting a server because so far, nothing can or will be done any time soon regarding hackers. Can we please please please address the hacker issue? If you run or have ran a DayZ server, you know what I'm talking about. -TY

I haven't really asked but I would assume it's because we really enjoy the aspects of PvP.

My apologies for the delay. I don't check for updates as often as I normally do these days. Well, I can't speak from personal experience. But the host who is paying for the current server we play on (my real life friend) told me straight out that he, as well as other server owners will have these discussions with the devs about hacking trends and things that affect server stability and such. According to him, after speaking with devs, not a lot can be done in terms of stopping hackers outright for good or even long enough to make it logical for him to continue paying to keep the server up. Since then he killed the server in regards to DayZ and turned it into A.C.E. mod server. It's fun but it defeats the purpose on why I joined ARMA 2 which was for DayZ. I love the game and it just makes me sad to see/hear people leaving DayZ due to hackers. Don't get me wrong. I for one will not be leaving but then again, I'm not paying to play, i.e. paying to own/rent a server. When you put yourself into the shoes of the people that actually are paying, I guess it only makes sense for them to leave. :(

DayZ from Steam in a few brief and simple steps (No third party programs such as SixUpdater, all in all granting better experience)
PAiN512 replied to zDevon's topic in New Player Discussion
I have actually recently started using DayZ Commander instead of SixLauncher and Steam and it's amazing. DayZ Commander not only works much better and faster but it's less of a resource hog than SixLauncher and it has a beautiful interface. Check it out: http://www.dayzcommander.com/ -
1st, how old are you? 2nd, have you heard of a thing called Google.com? 3rd, use your brain. If you don't have the answer/knowledge you're looking for uhh... do some research instead of lashing out like an idiot. -GL

Listen, I don't care what kind of games you play and if you think the games he or she plays or doesn't play is stupid, that's your business. If it bothers you, then ignore it. What is a bit irritating... is having someone make a clearly uneducated aggressive post even titled in unnecessary aggressive way that isn't a good start when you're asking the community for help. "FIRST IMPRESSION: THIS SUCKS." That's not going to get you some intelligent and detailed responses helping you overcome your hurdles with the game. I agree with a lot of ppl saying that the internet can be filled with a lot of hatred and that rings true for ALL forums. When I see those type of posts or responses the best thing to do is ignore them because trying to have a conversation with such a person is never going to end the way you want it to (CoD vs BF vs ......). The above though does not relate to this person who clearly came out guns blazing stinking of ignorance then wants to play the victim card trying to convince people he came here with good intentions and only wanted to share his so called educated opinion. Anyone with half a mind can read his original post and can make the clear assumption that he did zero homework before he purchased the game then wants to shit all over that which he doesn't understand when ANYONE can google how to insert anything here in DayZ and not only will you find articles but videos as well.... ^ That's more than enough evidence To Summarize: It's all about wording and conveying your feelings and opinions in a proper method. If people are just flaming you because that's the nature of the internet then so be it, ignore those people. If however, you try and lash out at a community for something that you have no knowledge of then expect backlash.
-
Look dude. You formed your post in the worst way possible that you cannot blame others for flaming you. Your entire post sums up the fact that you did absolutely zero research in the game before and even after playing it. I could fill an entire page in this thread posting different videos of tutorials on DayZ, how to play, how to survive, how to manage your inventory etc etc... Do some research and try again. I hope you were just in a low emotional rut when you posted this because I'd like to hope in this day and age with the technology at hand that you have a decent idea on how to search for answers instead of hating everything you don't understand.

M14, the FAL actually is a subpar weapon against players.

I've been playing games since 1988. I've owned almost every console that has ever existed (I was spoiled) and have a huge collection of PC games as well. This game has given me an experience that I have never before felt in any other game ever, period. It's a post apocalyptic world in which you live to survive and surviving is the game. The realism in this game is so amazing and intense that the immersion was instant for me. Yes you may die, in fact, I can guarantee that you will; However, dying will teach you life lessons in the game like no other. Every time I have died in this game I can pinpoint the reason as to why I died, what I did wrong, being too careless or aggressive etc etc.. The battles in the game are also like something I have never experienced before. I have played many FPS but unlike this game, in other FPS', you die and you just come right back, it's no big deal. You can run head into danger like some super hero, die and respawn and do it again, no biggie. In this game you actually fear for your life in battle because the death is permanent and the resulting effects and emotions are amazing. I highly recommend this game to anyone and everyone. Also note, that this game teaches you real life application. Almost everything done in this game can be related to real life skills. You will learn combat tactics, sneaky maneuvers, the importance of rationing supplies. You'll learn how to read a map properly, always being aware of your surroundings. You'll learn how to navigate through the world using the sun, shadows and the stars when you don't have a map and compass. I could go on and on, the point is.... Just play it ;p.

You can reduce the size to make it so tiny the information within is hardly visible but no, you cannot remove it entirely. However... quite often you will see it disappear, this happens when you start desyncing.

Items needed to live, I can never find
PAiN512 replied to Zedsdead (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
For general supplies such as the one's you are looking for there is no better source than the Supermarket/Grocery stores in the game. They are risky to visit if you aren't that familiarized with the game and combat tactics but they have what you're looking for and more. Risk vs Reward :). -
Your contributions are great, good job sir. I have a little thing to note here though. On your keymapping/control layout file, I found an error. If you hold shift while moving this is actually the key for moving slower to make less noise. Shift doesn't make you run, it makes you move in a slower/sneak mode.

I am unconcious and bleeding out fast. If I die..
PAiN512 replied to Gashed's topic in New Player Discussion
Your dead corpse will only hand around for 15 minutes if I am recalling correctly. I hope you found it but the odds of spawning close enough to run there is going to be highly difficult. Hit up any and all deer stands you can and you will find a better weapon within 30 minutes, I promise you. -Good luck! -
I can't help but feel that you may be trying to play this game like L4D which it is not. You can't just run around looking for gear and what not without expecting to aggro zombies. This is a realism survival mod. When you spawn with no weapons and you enter a town you are looking to loot it's best to navigate the area in prone at all times unless you get used to what you can and cannot get away with in terms of sneaking by zombies. That being said your best bet for gearing up are Deer stands imo. They are mostly safely out of the way and only a handful of zombies spawn around them that are normally easily to avoid.
-
Keep in mind that DayZ is currently in its alpha stages. 1 - Yes, zombies will continue to spawn around you. 2 - No, there are no 'safehouses' BUT, Rocket has already touched on the subject of having player made bases and there is no doubt that this WILL come but it's going to take some time.

I would advise you play on a veteran server opposed to a regular server and here is the reason why. On a regular server, you have a name tag just like any other player in the server has a name tag in the game. What does this mean? Well, it basically means that if you or anyone is entering a town or what not, they can simply scan their mouse over the area to see if any name tags pop up thus knowing there are players there and possibly exactly where they are making it easier to hunt them down if they want to. They can do this without actually even visually spotting you, so it's an unfair advantage in my opinion. On veteran servers, this tactic is not possible. Also it's just really nice to not have a crosshair so that if you want to accurate shoot someone, you have to aim down your ironsights instead of just spraying at the hip. As to your other question, there is no way to remember what server you last played on other than remembering it yourself manually by memory or writing it down. You can however filter the servers to find a specific one so if you write it down you can filter to locate that server in the future.
-
Well, you answered your own question in the 2nd point of your post. Yes, you can find guns in them. I have found a variety of military weapons and more. Keep trying =\.
-
This happens as a penalty for logging in and out of a server too frequently/recently.
-
You must be new.... Pro tip for ya, avoid the major cities unless you are properly equipped and are prepared to encounter some kind of aggression. There are players on just about every server that have teamed up and created a 'clan'. The benefits of such are having snipers to overwatch your entry and exit while you scavenge. Now you know :)
-
I don't think that was the case as I got the kill on my stats/HUD immediately after but I suppose it could have been some weird server glitch or bug. It hasn't happened since. -Thanks

I've been noticing that 2 of the 2 players I killed after the patch immediately disappeared and sunk into the ground before I could loot them. :'(
