Been away for 6 months. I have some questions...
shadowvfx posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been gone for 6+ months and I had some questions. - From what I've read online it sounds like the bandit skin got reintroduced. Is this true? - Is there any way to store your stuff OTHER than a tent yet? Last time I was checking on the forums, there was talk of underground storage spots, etc. - How are the glitches/teleporting zombies/hackers now vs 6 months ago? Better/worse/about the same? - Do people still just shoot each other on-site? I was hoping that reintroducing the bandit skin might reduce the rampant murder and shoot-on-sight that existed when I played. <---Main reason I quit playing Day Z. - Any other major changes I should know about? -

I have a few more questions. What's this I hear about "hive servers". Are those private servers? What's the benefit of those? How do I go about getting onto one of those? I'm going to take advantage of Steam's Day Z mod integration to get back into the game this weekend, so I'm trying to educate myself after a long absence. -
100k joining every week? lol, you're an idiot.

I click on Rocket's name and click "Show Posts" and it will show me the last ~8 posts he's made. How can I get it to show me ALL posts, including ones from days/weeks ago?

The problem is, 400+ threads = thousands of players who think this sh*t needs to change. You can tell me to go back to BF3/CoD or whatever the hell you want, but the fact remains that MOST people are not happy with the complete and total lack of interaction with strangers in-game. And for f*cks sake, don't even tell me to go to a forum or some crap to band together with a group. At that point those people are no longer strangers and it took something OUTSIDE of the game itself to make cooperation work. Currently there is no cooperation between players in Day Z unless it was pre-planned or they're two unarmed newbspawns.I've been sitting back for two weeks now waiting to see what happens with this game and so far it just seems to be getting glitchier and more broken. Instead of doing something to foster player cooperation and improve something people have been harping about for weeks/months now, we got bear traps....awesome?

Every time I approach a barn now, there's at least 1 or 2 zombies in it. Because of their new super sonic hearing, it's impossible to navigate inside the barn without alerting the zombies. How do you deal with them/loot the barn? I usually just shoot one, run upstairs and waste another 10 shots killing the others that inevitably hear the first shot and come running. It's really annoying, but I don't know any other way to do it aside from killing them with a hatch or crowbar (which is really annoying to switch out if you already have a rifle equipped).

Broken Bones And No Morphine
shadowvfx replied to pwnage13371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The fact that morphine "fixes" a broken bone is ludicrous. Yes, mophine can help you block out the pain of the broken limb, but it sure as hell doesn't magically weld your bones back together. In fact, running on an unsupported broken leg (with or without morphine) would ruin any chance of that limb healing correctly. A splint needs to be added to the game. Using bandages + splint would let you repair a broken bone, but for 24 hours, you can only walk, no running at all. If you had morphine, you could then use it to allow your character to run again. Splints could be more common than morphine, but require a much longer time to administer. Edit: Crap, someone beat me to it by a few minutes. -
This seems to be the problem; Person A meets 9/10 people who shoot them in the face on sight. Person B only meets 3/10 who shoot on site. This creates two totally different views of the player community. Personally, in my first week I was shot each and every time I tried to make contact with people who I spotted first. Each time they shoot me instead of trying to make peace. Personally, I do feel this game needs more insentive for STRANGERS to play together. IRL friends and people over teamspeak/vent are not going to suffer this problem.

Realistic noise levels for prone/crouch/standing
shadowvfx posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I get why it is the way audibility works as it is currently. It's the typical video game mindset. Prone = most stealthy, but slow Crouched = moderate stealth and speed Standing = loudest, but fastest But in reality, the amount of noise you make in each stance doesn't make much sense. Think about it, how noisy would you be if you tried to crawl on the ground (with all sorts of gear/backpack on) at the speed your avatar does? Yes, IRL snipers might do this to reach a target/objective without being spotted, but they are moving REALLY slowly while doing it and without carrying 100lbs of supplies (usually). Realistically, walking in a crouched stance would probably be the least audible in a forest/urban setting, followed second by walking in a standing position. Least of all would prone. Please don't get confused here, I am NOT referring to visual stealthiness, only audible stealthiness. I don't think it's appropriate that Prone = best visual and audible stealth, while standing = worst of both. I think it could be a much more interesting dynamic to pick and choose your stance appropriately to your situation. And before you reply to tell me I'm full of sh*t or whatever, just think about it. Or heck, go try it out for yourself. How much noise do you make crossing a street crouched vs crawling? How about your lawn? I think you can at least understand what I'm getting at here. That is all. -
Tents are awesome, right? Of course they are! You can keep your awesome crap there and stuff. But when someone robs your tent, it can really suck. Currently, you can only place tents in relatively open areas where they're sitting ducks to looters. I suggest adding Camo Netting as a loot item to the game that can be applied to any pitched tent. When applied, it does exactly what camo netting does, it would help disguise your tent to look like a bush or foliage from a distance. No, I don't want it to literally look like a bush, but something like this would be awesome; That's my 2-cents. Hope you like the suggestion.

lol, awesome. I tried pretty diligently, but couldn't get it to deploy in trees. I will give it another shot.

Why painkillers (Starting gear gripe)
shadowvfx replied to DinkyDogg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All for morphine. I had 12000 health and had a zombie crawling up some stairs next to me. Then, like stretch armstrong he reaches out 10 ft and breaks my legs. I now have 1890 health but broken legs and NO FREAKIN MORPHINE. I've been raiding towns for 2 hours now and haven't found ANY! So damn frustrating. -

SystemiK, where did he say that? I've been following nearly ALL of Rocket's posts for the last week + and I don't remember him saying that. And honestly, if it's for real, that does sound awesome!
-
My experiences is that they still have to be at least ~3' from any tree branches, etc. This still makes them visible to anyone who is even remotely paying attention while wandering. Regardless, I still think this feature would be welcomed by a majority of the players.

The current noises (twig snap, fence rattle) are just ambient and play randomly, right? I've heard that twig snap noise so often in the middle of the woods with NOTHING around and I'm not moving.

What does the "REARM AT TENT" option mean? Also, the stuff I put in my tent is gone (I know, it probably got stolen) but this is within 18 hours of my placing it, and I had it in a VERY secluded spot. I want to make sure I understand how to make the tents work correctly. 1) I pitch the tent 2) I select SAVE TENT 3) I put my crap in it 4) I select SAVE TENT again 5) I go about my merry way. Am I missing anything? I mean, I had a couple of useless things in that tent...I'm honestly surprised that (If someone found it within the ~18 hours it had been set up) that they would've stripped it totally bare. Thoughts or suggestions?

Yeah, the zed spawn rate seems a bit unbalanced. They seem to pop up within a minute and they just keep coming if you do end up shooting a zed. I watched a survivor through my binoculars yesterday agro ~4 zeds outside the barn north of Zelenogorosk. I literally watched this guy do nothing but shoot zeds one after another with his shotgun for about 10 minutes. He probably dropped about 25-35 of them before he took off running from a mob. I mean, really? This was a barn in the countryside! The stupid thing is, immediately after he ran off, I approached the barn and guess what. 3 zeds outside + 2 inside. This was less than a minute after this dude went on a shooting spree less than 100m outside in the feild. Where are these zeds coming from?

I was checking the map yesterday and I would continually see orange icons labeled as "MAN" on my map. They would move a bit, but would continue to disappear and reappear at random. I don't think these are other players, because I saw an icon on my map less than 25m in front of me, but in-game there was nothing there. Anyone know what these orange MAN icons are?

Zombie spawn rates still bugged?
shadowvfx replied to Shaimou's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been seeing this, too. I just mentioned this to my friend (who just started playing). I don't recall it being so difficult to infiltrate a city/village as it is now. They've got dozens of zombies just swarming everywhere. Also, the same aggro problem happpened to us. We'd kill ~ 5 zeds and more would just keep coming, even though we didn't move. I would like to see the respawn timer increased a little more so you can clear an area and know it should be safe for at least ~10 min (excluding the random roaming zed). -
I knew about that, but I just placed this tent the day before yesterday, so it should be after the wipe.
