  1. I used to think that I'm a tough guy, that maybe even in real life I would have no mercy in the situation you described. I had always had no problem killing Dayz characters or other characters in violent videogames. Then I stumbled across some videos of Chechen rebels beheading innocent Russian conscripts during a raid into Dagestan in 1999.... Their screaming, innocence, 17year old faces, cries for mommie made me horrified and disturbed me for days. I felt my heart drop and my arteries get stuck as I watched...Unable to get the horrific sounds and images out of my head. I nearly got PTSD. The point is that in real life, I highly doubt that people will kill each other on sight randomly. Maybe back in the stone ages, but this is an apocalypse set in the modern age, where most of the survivors have been through civilization and lived civilized lives under law, and have grown up under parents who teach them morals (for the most part). I thought I would have no problems in real life neither and was able to justify to myself that DayZ is realistic in that people will all shoot each other. Now I know, after witnessing actual people die in horrific ways.... Therefore, your argument that people will kill each other on sight in real life is invalid. There will be psychos here and there, but for the most part I believe in a real life apocalypse man will band together and enhance each other's survival. I know that the vast majority of people who watched the video I described were all horrified and nearly threw up/got a heart attack, feeling so much sorrow for the victims and their families, and fury at the Chechen murderers. Some of my friends who play violent videogames regularly and are regular DayZ bandits have seen a part of the video and turned it off in a pure mix of disgust, burning hatred, extreme sorrow, and depression...Unable to watch the whole thing.... So unless you have taken a life in the real world, you DO NOT know what it feels like, and therefore you have no authority to claim that in real life survivors will shoot each other on sight for some stupid beans. I know I wouldn't be the one to murder in a real life apocalypse... Only in self defense.
  2. For christ's sake, stop bumping this thread. The problem is fixed. You can switch weapons back and forth without losing them. The ammo should auto switch, if not you manual switch it. Nothing disappears. Mods close thread pls.
  3. Not once have I not been shot at while visiting this hellhole...I've always refused to server hop and farm and etc., trying to loot this place legit. Dying many times after good runs while trying to do this (but I took it like a man and just restarted) today I successfully acquired my loot after popping a group of bandits in the forest with my winchester. Both of them had sniper rifles which I took. Then I run out to the field in the North East of the town and I hear CONSTANT popping of loud snipers from a distance and bullets landing all around me (there were at least 2 snipers firing at once). From the sound they were M107s. However, thanks to my zigzagging after around 60 or so shots (I was literally counting the "pews" landing around me..), and I MEAN LITERALLY 60 shots I escaped into the forest.. (btw, nice fail at shooting some guy who is literally in the open with over 60 shots from a sniper and not getting a single hit xD) Do you guys even think Stary is worth it on populated servers.. I mean the mlitary tents are literally in the open and surrounded by nice ambush positions too. Looks like I'll have to low pop. farm soon as well... In any case I'm starting to feel like Berezino is much more worth my while than Stary now.. And NW Airfield.. forget it. Though I had my fun on the previous life where I dropped quite a few very well armed bandits with my AK-74 Kobra

    Have you guys ever been attacked before? :O I can imagine all the bandits surrounding this area during trade hours. How many mercenaries do you usually keep around during the events?

    Using CZ550 Scope to Estimate Range

    I have a CZ in my hands right now. It has NO mildots. It only has hashes that are equally spaced apart on the horizontal axis of the scope.

    Community picks - Weapons

    Meh, used to like AKM but have died several times due to noise level... Once I was looting a Cherno apartment then someone approached from the outside and started firing from cover at me with a Makarov. I sprayed him but he took cover, and immediately 5000 zombies enter the building, incapacitating me due to sheer weight of numbers even after i killed most of them.. Honestly, the "1 shot" factor only matters on Sniper rifles because you want to 1 shot people from far out...But on guns like the AKM (an assault rifle with much lower effective range) 1 shotting usually doesn't matter.. If a guy is within assault rifle engagement range chances are you'll have no problems putting the second shot in. Plus, desyncs and general server lag sometimes make it so that it takes an entire clip to kill someone at point blank full auto all hits.. making the mere 1 shot difference negligible. Also, I read the player health > zombie health. It should take 2 or more shots for AKM to kill at most ranges except <100m, where it is indeed 1 shot 1 kill. The Lee is more powerful than the AKM at longer range, and more accurate despite the fact that the wiki doesn't specify. Personally, I'd imagine that an M107/AS50 in combo with M4 SD or L82AWS would be the best weapons. The sniper rifles would silence any threat from long distances if you know how to shoot, while the M4Sd is great for looting cities due to silencer. The L82AWS is good with its thermal sight. All you need is 1 scan of an area to spot literally everything (that's not in a building) camping there, great for spotting when using the aforementioned snipers. However, I've never gotten lucky enough to find those guns. So far, the AK-74 Kobra has been my favorite gun for general use. Common ammo, and the sights are wonderful, especially at night where it glows in the dark. Its controllable automatic fire also makes that function actually useful, whereas AKM recoil renders its full auto mode useless. I've also loved the Winchester for beginner purposes and the M1911 is my favorite sidearm.

  8. What you do (refuse to server hop/farm) is basically how i've been playing ever since I've got the game. It is not supposed to be a "different playstyle to give more challenge and fun" as you say. It is supposed to be the standard playstyle. Unfortunately though many choose to exploit the game's mechanics and farm.

If I had an extra copy I would 1 give it to a friend or 2 sell it and profit.... I don't know why all these beggars come on here and expect to get free games from randoms who have nothing to do with them.

    I approve of Trout's suggestion. As of right now everyone has at least a friggin' AK. This game should have more civilian shotguns/pistols/repeaters/hunting rifles (not as strong as CZ tho or else it'll be OP) and much less military loot..

    Exception: OA has never gone on sale on Steam but L4D is constantly on sale. I could just go to some tf2 trading website, buy 5 tf2 keys for 1.40 each then get L4D for 7$ (5keys), but to do the same with OA you need like 20 keys lol. (30$ worth?)

    Well that is kind of hard considering that I am a lone wolf and I never get good equipment since I never go to farm NW airfield. Snipers are really hard to come by now...Even the CZ550 is hard to find. Most people who have snipers (especially the ones above the CZ, like M24, DMR, M107, AS50 etc.) are NW low pop. farmers. Notice I said MOST. Not all, but about 95%...

    Yeah especially when you'd just looted a sniper yourself... you probably could've scanned the area with binos and spotted them before they saw you. I actually did scan' date=' but you have to have been in my position to know what was going on. The forest which I suspect the fire came from was pretty far from the forest across the field from which I scanned from, so it's really hard to see well camo'd snipers from a distance where half of the bushes in the forest don't even show up on my screen.. Only when I got to mid-field did I take fire. [hr']
  16. You act as if it is such an easily solvable issue that has a solution so obvious that Rocket can instantly patch every single problem (and perceived problem) with the magical snap of a finger. Get real man, this game is in Alpha, which is a testing stage to test game mechanics and see how they work. Obviously they're gonna have problems, but only through more Alpha testing (which is going to have its flaws) can they make a final version that's actually good. If you're so smart and demanding, why don't you come up with a solution rather than listing obvious problems...

    Laggy server with crappy hit registration probably (And no, there doesn't have to be a red paper clip on the bottom right of your screen or actual FPS stuttering for the server to be lagging). Yesterday while in a building I unexpectedly ran into a guy 5 meters from me while turning a corner(I can see his face...), And I unloaded full auto AKM in first person aimed mode (All shots should've been hits) and it took an entire clip + me switching to M1911 before he dropped...Obviously it shouldn't take more than 10 bullets to down someone with an AKM at close range, but server lag can make it that.

As an expert player in this game who has logged many hours and a harcore realism nut, I am appalled by the fact that the developers made beans the primary food source in this game without including the natural bodily functions that come along with eating beans. However, I have several ideas that may serve to solve this issue at hand. I propose that all players be given the mandatory task of having to defecate if they had eaten food (and the excrement be given different properties according to what they ate) and a "Urge" meter above their food/water icon which shows their need to "go". The excrement will remain on the spot where it was dropped, and should have the "investigate excrement" option for other players who come across it in their action menu. This will surely add greatly to the tactical aspect of the game. For one, if a player sh*ts carelessly, his location may be unveiled to investigative players. For example, if another player stumbles across a pile of feces and investigates it and finds out that the feces is fresh and warm, it may alert him to the prescence of another nearby player. Thereby, you must choose your sh*tting location tactically and carefully. You should also be able to assess the material inside the sh*t. If I came across a warm pile of feces ingame, I would investigate it to see if it contains cooked meat. And if it does, that means the player at hand has hunting and cooking materials, making him a priority target for me. The above are only a few tactical aspects that this idea would add. And to expand upon the idea of the "Urge" meter i mentioned earlier, If a player doesn't go when his/her meter is full, he will start farting spontaniously, thereby lowering the accuracy of his weapons, until he sh*ts his pants which increases the chance of a bacterial infection that requires antibiotics. For further realism, diet should also be a part of this. For example, if you eat too much beans (or raw meat), you will get diarreah often, an uncontrollable sympton that results in dehydration and lowered accuracy during gun fights. If you only eat cooked meat, then you will be constipated, which requires more time sh*tting, leaving the player stationary and exposed to sniper fire while he sh*ts. My friend will also suggested that sh*tting in lakes and ponds (water sources) will render the water unsafe for drinking, so that if players go and try to fill up their bottles there, they risk getting an E. coli infection which requires antibiotics to heal. This will add the tactical need for people to inspect and investigate the ponds they use to fill their water bottles at (Though this might be OP as bandits might constantly sh*t in the water). So these are all my ideas right now to enhance realism as many people complain about the lack of total realism. Couple that with all the tactical aspects that this add (Compromised locations if you don't sh*t tactically enough, revealed inventories, diet management, water source investigation, need to scour for antibiotics, etc.) this is a must add in the next patch. Feel free to add more ideas. TL ; DR : suck my nuts.
