A new use for tin cans and nails in crafting?
Fairlane replied to Fairlane's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yes but when you talk about IED's i think of the ones in Arma, that are diguised as trash, or buried, and looked like rigged up warheads. more specifically i dont like the "bomb vest" idea. sorry for not specifying that. but the bomb-vest/bag/body thing is already on another thread. -

hmmm... i dont really like the IED's idea. theres already satchel charges in the game... and that just seems to be a big way for players to just troll n crap. i think the molotov, the "less lethal" nail bombs (id kinda want the most damage for it to do is maybe half blood, but definatly cause bleeding damage. i mean... its a tin can with gunpowder, shot, and nails. its not a Morter shell) would be a decent addition. -
no i havent, :o player host internet radio? got a link to that post? wanna see how thats gonna work.

this was something that bothered me recently. was cold at one point after swimming, and i got into a vehicle, started driving on the coastal road. got even colder.... im sorry but i think any military vehicle made after Word War 2 usually had at least a heater... maybe not A/C, but then you have the civy cars that should have a/c and heat in the first place. i mean, maybe military vehicles i could see not having any luxuries, but... a lada? a skoda? Gaz? that crappy old yellow hatch? the Datsun truck? im sure those had heaters. i don't think a "warming self" ability in a car would be hard to implement into the mod right now... other than this, i didnt really take notice with the interiors. been too busy looking at the road rather than the guages. though i do like the radio idea... but i also see it not being really... logical.. i would assume most radio stations would go down after the first week of the apocalypse.. now if it was a cassette thing, that could work... maybe find them among residential loot spawns. could be useful too to put in a car. play the music, and it attract zombies to the far for as long as the music lasts. (since tapes run out.)

if i remember correctly... when me and my friends were screwing around in armex... theres a "rip off" of a red VW golf i think? is a hatch in the game. and there is ACTUALLY a place where someone can lay in the "boot"... i think one of my friends saved a screenshot, i can try to find it later

lol... but oddly that gives me an idea, maybe have the nails sticking out of the can? could maybe... *MAYBE* stick to flesh? I'm not going to say sticky bomb, cause theres no way i, personally could throw a spikey tin can into a sheet of plywood. maybe flesh but unless multiple nails penetrate in multiple directions, i dont think it would really stick to a player was also thinking for the stand alone... maybe if they can get a fire mechanic, use those rags, and whisky bottles, and a 5L gas can and make molotovs or fire bombs or something. but as far as im aware arma doesnt REALLY have a fire spread, or damage system so i dunno if such a thing is possible. but it could be bad cause then you have flaming zombies chasing you.. -
could work also with using the fore-arm as support... like sitting the fore-arm of an assault rifle on the top of your left fore-arm (or right if your left handed) or using a weapon sling to help support... such as wrapping an arm into the sling, works pretty well and it helps hold up small assault rifles with one hand. its not very stable, but then you have a better handicap. loss of accuracy with "larger-than-pistols" weapons. but remove the ability to use anything bigger than an ak/m4/m16 unless prone. at least the amputee has half a chance to survive at that point. but other than this, I agree with mostly everyone here. it wont work cause players will just commit suicide.

yeah i guess this is true. might be possible to do in the standalone, perhaps... STILL, having to get that close to a zombie is a slight death wish. maybe could make it interesting and add a chance to fail with zombies. chances of getting bit, or clawed, or smacked. i mean you ARE grabbing an undead, rabid, unthinking, flesh hungry zombie...

well it was just an idea. didnt know they used vacuum tubes. is the littlebird the same way? also the whole "turning ammo into KoS shit" i think is a bit harsh, sure yeah its an explosive device, but you could use them against zombies... to either kill, cripple, or destract them. only reason i talked about players was to kinda give them a less lethal, deterring contraption. hence why i think it should cause bleeding, rather than just blow off the other players legs. but this is the whole point of throwing ideas out here, to talk about them. well, throwing this idea out there, could just use the double barrel shotgun shells (pellet shells, not slugs) in the crafting to get the powder, then you also have shot for extra shrapnel. no need to add a new "powder item" into the game then. shotgun shells are pretty easy to open. they already did this. they have this system for cans, smoke grenades, frags, and flares. -

i think this would only be a pvp mechanic, so far that ive found out, even in a ghillie suit, if you sneak up behind a zombie, theres a point in which the AI auto detects the player... ive tried to sneak up to a zombie, got too close, got hit, but it never did get alerted of my presence which was really weird.. granted though that was back in 1.7 i never once tried to get as close as before. maybe you could get that close at night, in a ghillie suit, while moving slow...?

you think that's bad? I got 4 middle wheels on my off-roader (landrover model)

suppose they add some kind of way to "un-craft" certain items. such as bullets, or smoke grenades, or maybe even flares to obtain some sort of explosive powder like gunpowder or something. (could even lead up to bullet crafting/reloading, maybe) so, take a tin can, 2 nail packs, powder (or some kind of explosive charge) maybe scrap electronics... nail bomb tin can! throw in a thing of string and maybe have a "bouncing betty" type device? (minus the bounce) could make it cause bleeding among players. If its possible, make it do half the damage of a hand grenade or something?(to go along with it being very basic and primitive) not sure if Arma actually has the ability to change explosive damage or if its all the same. i dont know... i just figured these would be ideas to throw out and see what you guys think. it would need the addition of some kind of powder, but i feel now would be a good time to throw out crafting suggestions since its getting worked on. I also wanted to say that i feel scrap electronics would fit the role better to fix the instruments on Helicopters. i mean, i dont know if this would make more sense on heli's like the huey and the Mi-17, i mean, i dont think those are really modern aircraft, so would the instruments be electronic still? or mechanical? i just find it weird that i can fix something like a pressure gauge and a altitude meter with a few rusty bars of metal and bolts. and pardon me if there is a crafting recipe sugg. thread specifically, new to the site still and just now getting the hang of where everything is (also its 5:30 AM for me :P). so apologies if this is the wrong place
