I've murdered numerous people, but I've also helped some. I'd be interested in doing an interview but I'd have someone watching you the whole time. If your interested in hearing my group's story, PM me.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
THEOTHERJESTER replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You should get brought onto the DayZ team lol. I have a lot of hopes for this game and I really do hope they implement some if not all of your suggestions. -
So I haven't picked up DayZ for a little while mostly because I just haven't had time for it. Despite that I'm back now and when I launched Six to update all the mod nothing happens. Six says my game is all up to date, but its no updating past 1.7.2.4. My friend who I play with (who had also stopped playing for a bit) is also having the same issue. However when I launch the SixUpdater it brings me to a screen with a bunch of servers and ports and stuff I don't know anything about. Before I go fiddling with this is there anything that has to be changed on this page? I do remember using it when it first came out to set up the whole thing but I just cannot remember how to use it properly and don't want to mess it up. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers :emptycan:

So I've noticed that as a few of my friends and I join games I tend to spawn before them all. We typically leave off in the same spot so we can pick up and play the next time. Well as they are all joining in their bodies spawn in the game, but they cannot move (they say they are in the "waiting for character creation" bit). Earlier today we happen to spawn in front of a rather large group of people who had shots lined up on us before we were able to move. Something should be done about this because its really frustrating to have spend 15 hours getting good gear, dodging zombie hordes and bandits to only get wasted as soon you spawn. I know that it was just by chance that they were walking by and saw us, but still it is still stupid that they saw us before we were even fully in the game. I don't know if this is an issue that can even be fixed but if it is please dear lord fix it.

[Suggestion] Scaling loot chance based on player count
THEOTHERJESTER replied to ChaoticRambo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think you are the only one to ever include a mathematical formula in their suggestion, something that a programmer can read and understand. I wouldn't be surprised if they included this simply because they don't need to do anything just copy and paste your formula. Besides that I like the idea, it really increases the reward for going into dangerous games. And at night when no one is on it decreases the chance of that lone guy in the game getting super powerful gear at the airfield. Also for those people who play on those 2 ppl max servers, sucks for them because they'll never get anything good! LOVE THIS IDEA! -
I understand what you are saying with the anonymity cross servers, I wish there was some way we could know more about the other players but I don't see this happening. I just don't think that every server could hold the data needed for this to happen. What I would suggest is that instead of making each server its own character, each character profile you have acts as a separate character itself. Basically this is doing the same thing but you are not putting a large load of data on the servers which will keep everything running smoothly.

The only way I could see this working would be if the players spawned in areas in TOTAL cover with a lot trees. This way you really couldn't be seen that easily by bandits. Here's another idea for you; maybe add some more than 4 regions. Have say 8 or 10 regions that you could spawn in, BUT the server only uses 4. This way bandits would have a really hard time setting up kill zones because they would have no clue where the spawns are unless they die themselves which at that point they would be no danger to anyone. As each server resets itself daily (or however long it takes) the spawn regions change, so 4 of the 10 possible regions are selected randomly each day. This would add variety and help against spawn killers.
-
Haha well that happens sometimes... Anyway I do like your ideas. I think it would be better if you could strip some vehicles down for parts so you don't have to search for them. Maybe even add a gas siphon option or something. With the helicopters I agree. Even though I've never found one yet I've seen pictures and they look like it would be rather difficult to find anything in the overgrown grass.

I have a feeling you are a member of the undead... Anyway I see what you are saying but I think in all actuality you run into animals more often than people depending where you are. I'd personally hate the idea of being shot in the head just so I could be someones lunch. I mean I'm already on the diner menu for the zombies, do we really need to include each other as a special for the survivors menu?

Sadly this is a fact of the game. The spawning is generally random at best so only blind luck can get you to spawn by your friends. You really don't want generalized spawn locations thought. Think of it like all the other games out there... spawn campers. Bandits would have a grand old time camping the spawns of new players just for the fun of it. The advantage of this spawn system is that bandits have a harder time spawn camping newly spawns.

For now we will be safe from zombies in the wilderness. But don't be surprised if something like this is added in the near future. If this is going to be implemented I have a feeling that only areas around cities and towns will have infected in them. The deep wilderness should be safe from the infected, although this is just speculation. I have noticed thought that the infected have been spawning further and further away from the cities and more in the fields surrounding the town/city.

You guys really don't want to spawn inland. There isn't really anything of interest inland besides a few areas which are populated by bandits. When you die you get to spawn close to where a great concentration of loot is at (ie. Chern or Elektro). If the spawns were changed (if they could be that is) then people would start complaining that they have no clue where they are and would search aimlessly for a place to find supplies, only to die of starvation because they couldn't find anything to eat or drink (remember we don't spawn with beans or water anymore). With that said that also brings up the fact that we don't spawn with compasses or maps. The only way to find towns inland is to either follow a road or the power lines (both of which can expose you pretty bad unless you stay off into the trees). At least when you spawn on the coast you are able to navigate easily enough. So you know with the latest character I have I spawned in Cherno, went to Elektro then up to Brez then finally up to black lake and the airstrip. I thought I had a knife to collect meat along the way but for some reason it vanished. I wasted all my food and drink scouting nearby towns for supplies and I NEVER found a single knife or bit of food/drink. So now I'm returning to Brez in hopes to find food/drink before I die of starvation/thirst and hopefully a knife so I can remain far away from the cities. You really only want to avoid cities when you have all your gear. Generally when I die I run to a city grab everything that I need to survive in the wild then run for my life out of there.

You seem to have cut yourself off...

I don't know about zip ties, seems like that might get overused a bit and people would start complaining a lot.

Camo Clothing....Not really camoflaged is it?
THEOTHERJESTER replied to valiant 1-4's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yea the only problem is that the camo suit and ghillie suit are not the easiest thing to come by... and if your lucky enough to get one you end up getting killed by someone who thinks they can take it off your corpse (which they cant). -

THEOTHERJESTER replied to valiant 1-4's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Have you ever had camo gear before? If you are running around a bush you blend right in, and your arms don't really give your position away that bad. Although I do like what you are suggesting, I do think they should add more types of clothing into the mod. -
1) Yes I like that idea of knocking people out, gives us an alternative to just flat out killing them. 2) Boobytraps are more difficult to agree on. I like the idea about tripwire flares as early warning detection systems but not grenades strapped to loot. That would just get extremely annoying because every time you found a can of beans someone would put a grenade in it and boom. So I'm 50/50 on this one. 3) While there are bikes in the mod I think there should be more. Possibly more vehicles to to cut down on all the vehicle stealing and murder to get your bus. 4) Totally agree with you on this one as well. More animals, make them more frequent and more important make zombies go after them. 5) I do agree with you that medical loot should spawn inside homes, I mean its only common sense that someone would keep those sorts of supplies inside their house right? I also think other items such as tool boxes should spawn more simply because they are common household items.

Hopefully you know a good spot to hide your RV or people are going to find it and take it and steal all your stuff inside.

I like this idea I think they should do away with the general chat and and make using radios the only way to communicate long distances. But I think you should have a signal depending on your distance from the various radio towers in the game. You should have to "turn on" radio towers to boost your signal so you can talk longer distances. I also like the idea of different frequencies so you can talk on different "channels" and not everyone will hear you. Also makes eavesdropping on other players more realistic.

Let's get some more sand in this box
THEOTHERJESTER replied to CosmicOsmo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This has been discussed before but the general consensus is that nothing of the sort will be out until at least the beta phase of the mod. You have to realize that the mod itself is still in the Alpha and there are more important bugs to be tweaking. If this was added now, it would only add more bugs which would only waste the dev team's time when they could be fixing other things. While I'm not saying this is a bad idea I think it should wait. I would like to see how settlements pan out and the eventual conflicts that would arise. -
Okay so first thing is that I am not suggesting we totally stop killing each other. I admit that even I enjoy the occasional murder now and again but that's besides the point. A lot of people complain about how they are always killed by players either in the middle of nowhere or while they are scavenging for supplies in the middle of a city or town. I noticed that the majority of these people who were doing the killing (myself included) were using extremely powerful guns which can kill a player easily. Then I noticed that when I fired in the middle of Chern with maybe 600-800 infected on the server that only dozen or so came charging after me. That's when it hit me. The guns are not loud enough, or at least the infecteds' hearing isn't good enough. If their hearing was increased then firing a gun would become a big "no-no". Like in all the zombie movies and tv shows we see, firing a gun is an extremely bad idea. It alerts them from miles away. This makes sense and even adds another factor of realism to the mod. If this was implemented then we could possibly see a large decrease in the amount of murders in the game. It would no longer be a good idea to just shoot that survivor and take his gear because now you have to deal with an angry horde of infected that you just attracted. If you are on a high building and you fire, then you better hope you don't have to leave very soon because the infected would be attracted to the base of the building, stumbling over each other until they found a way to the top to eat you. This would also encourage cooperation among survivors as one small group could distract a large number of infected so the others can raid a town for supplies. I personally think this would be a good idea, but I would love to hear everyone else's ideas on the subject.

An Idea to Stop most of the PvP
THEOTHERJESTER replied to THEOTHERJESTER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@ edonovan - Yes I agree with you totally. I don't think zombies should instantly know your location. Any sound that a zombie hears should prompt an investigation. -
Don't know whats going on now, was able to play fine earlier today. Then I off for a little while and just came back on. I couldn't join any games when I got on, it kept getting locked on the loading screen. So I exited the game and restarted my computer. I launched Six Launcher and it updated the mod, but I still can't seem to get onto any games. This happen to anyone before? If so whats the fix?
