To My Killer in Stary Sobor
tom.dullnig@gmx.net replied to spinoabw@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Took out a squad of five in Stary with it last week. Had 9 bullets left in the mag when it was over. Stick to your plastic toys if you want but you can't beat accuracy, stopingpower and vision down the sight in CQB. There's a reason why the M14 AIM and the FAL are extremely popular in CTI. -
Most ridiculous death plus aftermath

I got killed by the grim reaper today. Sounds strange ey? Here's the story: After a few very succesful loot runs, the friend I was running with and I were pretty well geared - FN FAL + DMR (4 mags each) - Coyote Pack, all the fancy stuff including a GPS. After running low on supplies we decided to hit Gvozdono to see if we could find some wood. Anyone who has been there may remember the red building that can only be accessed from one side due to a bug in the map - well, I decided to do the smart thing and tried to vault in. Needless to say I faced insta-death at the hand of the mighty glitch gods. This is were things get odd. Having aggroed a few zombies from my fall into glitch hell, my friend went around and inside the building, throwing off the aggro and looking for loot. I had just spawned when all of a sudden the following conversation ensued. -"The hell!" "WHAT THE F?" "DUUUUUUUUDE!" -"What?" -"The Grim Reaper is standing outside this place!!" -"Are you kidding me?" -"No, dude I swear to god, how do I get a screen of this without steam?" -"Dude, stop freaking me out" -"No, I swear to god. He's standing there looking at me" At this point we were scared shitless, with my totally random death and all just a minute before. Turns out the reaper he was looking at was one of the priest zombies with a weird angle and my friend had never seen one of those before. That is probably the only time I have ever been scared shitless because of a game - thanks for the experience. TL;DR - Beware of the Glitch Reaper, he is out to get you too. -

I was thinking about that a long time, as long as it's limited to melee weapons. Imagine a Zed slowly inching up to you ina building with a crowbar or a hatchet scratching on the floor. -

Leaderboards are worthless anyways - what's the point in showing of what you have done in a game? It's not like you get anything from it, nor does it make you special. As it stands, each of those stats can be cheated the one way or the other. Since in my experience stats bring out the worst in people, I'd say remove it completely. -
Spawning in with weird items

Great, thanks fucking hatchet, bye good old M14, M24, Rangefinder, NVG and Glock. 3rd time this week I loose all the fancy stuff to bugs... argh! At least the nearest deerstand had an AKM to serve me until I find something better. -
Does as it says, looking for a mature group to roll with (18+ and not Cherno/Elektro camping all day) - don't care much about timezones as I am off-season and do have a lot of time to play. Not a noob, do have hundreds of hours logged in OFP/ArmA/ArmA2 MP, mostly PvP. Contact via PM please.

Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.3
tom.dullnig@gmx.net replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Short request: Can anything be done about the rampant version exploit? People join servers in hordes running around invisible and with no zombies but can loot when other players are near (and killed them, just happened to me) while using a different version than the server. Occasionally you can even see the smoke coming from their weapons. Just seen one driving around in a truck - truck is driving but the seat is empty and you can hear him get on&off. Also, sidechat is bugged for some slots, one of the kids was letting everyone in server know what was going on. Maybe a forced upgrade to 1.7.1.3 after it's out? -
In general yes. If an issue arises you know do at least have proof that it was not intentional given that you do drop them. Keep running with them and you give the staff every reason to ban you for knowingly using hacked items.
-
I wouldn't bother with keeping them, especially if it's coming from a random ammo box from the beach that has M24s and AKs in - these are hacked afaik. As it has been pointed out, you will NOT be globally banned by BE from Arma if you keep these weapons but you can be permanently banned from DayZ - your choice if you think it's worth the risk.
-
Yes, I'm sure. Either way, you shouldn't even be contemplating using a weapon that is not in the mod.
-
Hack. The M40 is not in the mod, the M24 is. Dump it. If not you will be database banned permanently. If you're not sure about an item, check here: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Ghillie Suits Good to Wear?

There's an indicator of it possibly being buggy on spawn: if you put it on and see the ocean it's screwed. In that case you can either wait it out for some 20 minutes or so or head to the coast, find a safe place and respawn. That way it's easy to retrive all your gear. If you put it on and see that the screen doesn't flash the ocean up its safe. I usually wait out some 15 minutes just to make sure before logging off. -

Well, back in the days people to dumb to find even a minimum wage job used to sit around, watch tv, drink beer and jack off all day. Then came the internet. What amuses me is that people are supposed to alpha test this and not play it for fun or trolling. Yet hardly ever do I see posts with bug reports or serious constructive criticism that does not have at least some totally pointless reply in the thread. There's a reason after all why usually people get paid to do this. Don't excpect profesionalism if there's no professionals involved. That said, it's time for the mods to man up and start insta-banning people for trolling and derailing threads. Unless that happens: deal with it. -
Found three today, all of which had loot - very limited loot that is. Scoped out the wreck and the surroundings before moving in to actually see where the items are, found: Chemlights, Some ammo - not even DMR mags, 1xAKM + 3 Clips, Emtpy Cans. Fantastic! No, wait... Not going to look for those again in the future.

Was sneaking up the NW airfield last night, going all tacticool when the server crashed. When I logged back in with my 2nd attempt, the server had switched to night, quite an unpleasant experience when you have no NVGs in that area. Either way, I thought I'd proceed since nobody goes there without NVGs at night... right? I had just cleared the S barracks and was moving up on the northern one, when I saw a blue chemlight ignite in the entrance room of the barrack. Now I don't have my gamma up, but with the moon and all I still could see enough to know that there must have been someone who freshly spawned in - inside the barrack. Now I usually am not that much of an asshole to people (I said not that much, notice? ;) ), but I decided to teach the little serverhopper a lesson. Crawling up and around the barrack, I could make out his head in the last room against the background, so I quickly went into direct chat and started coughing. As soon as I did that, he clearly started to move, frantically looking around, to no avail though yet. Every minute or so I would make my presence known with the coughing, so he didn't disconnect, patiently waiting for the chemlight to go out. At this point I had a frag grenade ready, and as the minutes passed, I crawled closer to the entrance. There it is, chemlight gone out - I crouch, strafe and throw my frag in, then switch back to the G17. I am pretty sure the dumbfuck was scared shitless in his corner at this point but I took it a little further. As the nade was in the air I quickly played one of my custom sounds - the "Turn up the lights in here baby" hook from Kanye West's "All of the lights" and switched on the flashlight on the G17. Just in time to see the little bitch be blown to pieces while in the middle of the throwing motion on a flare. LOL'ed hard and took his beans. Credit goes to Kanye West for a great tune and the random chick singing the hook for being an awesome partner in crime. -

Ruger Mini14/F30GB - .203 ammo - as rare/common as the AKM maybe. The A-Team had them, can't beat that. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
tom.dullnig@gmx.net replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Someone's getting mad because he's to lazy to read the thread? Quite entertaining. I have just prooven that you don't know either what rocket's plan is. If you play an argument like that, you got to be prepared for the counter. Nothing abusive in that, if you take that as an offense you may as well just leave. It's called discussing. Point is that as long vehicles are stored - most of the times not even being used - they don't get destroyed, they don't get damaged, they don't respawn. With the spawns/saving still buggy and glitchy as it is, a selected, small group of players compared to the overall number screw the testing over that way. Is it really that hard to understand? I will have fun watching the first threads go up once this is closed down. OMFG ROCKET I JUST DIED OUTSIDE THE MAP, CANT ACCESS MY STUFF NOW PLZ FIX! -

This. It's amazing how people on one hand can complain about map size' date=' lack of [u']realism and immersion when trying to set up camp inside the borders, then in the same post go on about how uber - realistic their behaviour is when walking off the map into a giant zone of endless green hills and no vegetation. It's amazing when people pull "facts" out of their arse. Could you please give me 2 examples of people on here supporting the idea of putting tents outside that have also posted a comment complaining about the lack of realism. Explain to me how venturing out to the wilderness is bypassing "the" core game mechanics? If they were not meant to be ventured into then you wouldn't be able to do so. I'm quite amazed how many people claim to know what rocket wants/thinks. As for your first question: RTFT. Now since you obviously seem to know exactly what rocket wants/thinks, care to share it with us? That would be really generous of you. You can't? Well, you have just failed your selective reading class. Fact is, the vehicle spawns and saving still does not work as intended: persistent. If you did something else (i.e. reading on these forums) than trying to justify game exploits you could have noticed that by now. AFAIK the core mechanic of this is still meant to be spawn - scavenge -survive and not spawn - organize pick up - get 20 km of the map - get hoarded / duped gear - hoard and dupe some more outside the map. The conclusion to this is simple anyways: it will be fixed and your tears will be delicious. -

Not only are these people bypassing the core game mechanics behind the mod by hoarding stuff like that in zones that are not ment to be ventured into for a reason, these people are fucking with the respawn mechanics of vehicles as well. The more you stash them away in the weirdest places the less can be tested to find and squash out the bugs. Even a drunken chimp could have figured that out by himself, but oh well. There's the interwebz to be won with 1337 azz wehiculs n stuff. :dodgy: -

The problem is not that tents are too hard to spot - it's too hard to find a decent spot to place them due to the glitchy/bugged mechanic. That however is no excuse for going out of the boundaries of the map to set up camps and hide gear and vehicles there. That is in fact an exploit - just like d/cing and serverhopping. Oh wait... Easy fix for this is not an invisible wall the people run into and stop them, it's the (among ArmA/OFP veterans) well known out of map killzone. This has worked for years now: As soon as a player crosses the boundaries of the map, he will get 60 seconds to return back inside or he will be automatically killed/the vehicle destroyed. There is no reason to be out there and the boundaries are obvious enough to not cross them accidentially. If you want to bring up emergent gameplay, why don't you set up a camp with 24/7 guards, sandbags and wirefencing? The tools to let gameplay like that emerge are all in DayZ, and even exploit-free. Oh yeah, that actually takes effort.
