how to prevent loot farmers/raids/camping
[email protected] replied to Ballistixz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The logic behind the suggestions isn't actually too far off considering that Chernaurus didn't go down without a fight. The numerous destroyed army vehicles and dead soldiers everywhere testify to that. However if there's a change then the mechanic needs to be carefully thought through i.e. More hunting rifles in variations in general, CZs, 30.-.06s, shotguns, etc. in civilian areas with the odd Enfield, Mosing Nagat maybe PPSch-41s and other WW2 remains. Basic military equipment needs to be more rare but obtainable from destroyed vehicles, dead soldiers and army structures. Given the obvious ferocity of the infection across Chernaurus, very little gear should actually be able to be obtained through fixed military installations. Do you really think in times like these anyone would leave .50 cals, M24s and the likes behind in a lousy barrack to rot for eternity? I don't think so. Finally, any scoped rifle should only be found at (more rare) helicopter crashes. Don't get me wrong, I am a bandit by nature and play this for the thrill of PvP but this and a fix for the duping will definately make people with high end gear think twice before trying to hunt newbies at the coast or camp certain towns. Also, if you can't just run around with a scoped rifle all the time, people will definately think twice before engageing as all of a sudden you need to get close to another player to kill him. Everything that makes the game more challenging is worth considering IMHO. -
Just joined a server with some friends, some russian guy was talking over VON in group channel as we were already in (not in lobby), then typed /time. We obviously disconnnected but sat in the lobby for a second to see what would happen, he said something else, chuckled and a lot of people died simulatneously. His IGN: Opasnuu' What server: US Atlanta 37 Time: 2:00 GMT+2 Player in question: Opasnuu' What happened: see above, mass kill.

[Questionable] New military grade spawn area?
[email protected] replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I call bullshit - the AS50 is a helicopter spawn only. Nice trolling attempt though. -
Just got hacked on US133. Everybody was thrown in the air, brought close to the spawnpoints at the beach and fell to their death. I did ALT+F4 quickly enough to exit right before hitting the ground. Server: US133 Time: Around 05:00 GMT+2 What happened: Players thrown in the air to fall to their deaths. What we (in a group at that time) were doing: running N of the NW Airfield.

I admire your faith, stuff like this has been around on BIS studio games for ages and always will be probably, especially with the easy to hack engine. Of course, they may be banned eventually only to get a new key and do it all over. These people seek to get attention, thus as long as this mod is popular there always will be some guy to come up with a new way to bypass anti-cheat measures.

"Mage" on chigago 15 - very suspisciously good at getting high-end gear.

No problem. As it stands, there's probably little you can do anyways except browsing through the logs to maybe find anything suspicious unfortunately. Thanks for your time anyways!

Of course you don't have a problem with PvP "to survive" because it doesn't exist in the game. Your survival never depends on murdering another human. It's always possible to get supplies in other ways and with less risk than hunting other players. There are only three legitimate reasons to PvP in the game: 1. It's fun and you want to do it. 2. You want more gear for yourself or your friends. 3. Self defense against the people from 1 and 2. And since 3 depends on the existence of 1 and 2' date=' there are actually only two reasons to [i']initiate PvP. There is no such thing as "necessary" PvP and if something were implemented that made it such, the outcry on the forums would be torrential. Then how come i hear all the time that players kill to get loot? And that they do it to loot bodys and survive? So you are saying people are just killing for fun, And making it so players had to kill for a reason, Would completely ruin this game? I do believe the way you are thinking about PvP in the first place is fundamentally flawed. Killing for loot does not only mean killing for basic supplies to keep you alive, it also involves killing for ammo, tools, backpacks, bincos, nvgs, etc. You are trying to paint a color picture with black and white only, it's not going to work. That said, there is no issue with PvP in DayZ. PvP was intended to be there in the first place, people just finally need to adapt to not being hand held all the time. In fact, as in many other threads, all of the OP suggestions except radios would make the game yet another MMORPG clone. I can not stress this enough: this was, is and fortunately will not be the way this mod is going. What many people fail to understand is that this is a modification for a game that was not designed for anything remotely close as DayZ in the first place. Compromises have to be made and workarounds have to be found. There is no easy changing the core engine behind it simply because that most likely needs to be done via the BIS Studios route, not via the DayZ development team. Let me take up the example of progressively changing the player skin: Each and every modification to the appearance of your character is currently a complete avatar swap, not just a change of skins. There is no such things as easy appearing decals on a base skin. Finding mechanics that work in such a development environment takes more time than writing a halfbred thread on this forum, pros and cons need to be evalutated based on the core mechanics plus possibilites of the engine behind the mod and not on personal preference. The first major task to accomplish is fixing the exploits and loopholes in the engines, disconnecting to avoid death, duplicating items just to name a few. Only then it is time to develop mechanics to distinguish players based on their course of action ingame. In the end it's a step by step process and not a sprint into a direction that a (very vocal) minority sees fit. Forcing your style of play onto someone else fundamentaly defies the idea of a sandbox game. There is no such thing as right or wrong. TL;DR PvE only: sod off. PvP only: sod off. Fix the core, then develop mechanics to distinguish and let players play their game. Not someone else's.

NY84 [MAD] exploiters
[email protected] replied to morrIsunzz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You should see the NW airfield. Plenty of tanktrpas and wirefences in appropriate places on that server. Alas, I have had them disconnect a couple of times on me as well, easy solution: dont play there anymore. -
Found this on youtube. Pretty self-explanatory.
-
Exactly. The first shot going high and killing the girl shows that the distance was less than 300m. Anyone can do that without a scope after some 3 hours of gametime. Especially since you guys were streamsniping them - it's not like you just happened to stumble upon them there. So, no skill involved. Make sure you send me PMs though when you start to continuously kill moving targets with headshots at 700+ meters.
-
Wow you can quote wikipedia, your parents must be proud of you ;) Still, even if you don't like to hear it, your sniping skill sucks. If you come to this forum with a name like that and want to brag it better be something good. Catchy response btw, I thought you were a little older but that's just about pre-pube.
-
Looks like his skill of taking criticism is just as high as his sniping skill. Afterschool bandits, typical.
-
That's not even any distance to be worth the name sniping plus you were following them on stream - 0 skill / 0 rating.

Then again, is the low power/inaccuracy of the DMR downrange really worth being used in combination with NVGs? It all depends on how you play.
-
Depends on how you use them. If you know how to use mildots to get range (not guessing but calculating) or have a rangefinder the M24 is the best for medium range (accuracy and noise + zeroing) and the AS50 for long range. If you're on one of the easymode servers that allow nametags for distance or just guessing, the DMR may be the choice because of low recoil and quick follow-up shots. The SVD may seem to be the better choice at first because of the built-in rangefinder but the lack of zoom makes accurate shooting at anything moving above 500m a guessing game. Plus the ammo is more rare than the DMR mags. The M14 AIM does have the range to take down targets far away, but I keep that as a high-power patrol weapon only.

It's a FAL from a chopper crash site. I lol'ed.

On a scale of 1-8, what is your level of aggression?
[email protected] replied to rokaraged's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
9 - I even shoot chicken and cows with a .50cal over 1000m only not to loot them. Betsy had it coming. -
I'm all for this or at least giving us more variety in skins. There's plenty of Chedaki/Insurgent skins in the vanilla Arma game than those ugly PMC skins and the BAF camo in its variations.
-
I find it outstandingly amusing that the OP thinks he has a right to complain about his precious "hard work" being blown to bits. It's an alpha, you're supposed to test this, not hoard stuff MMORPG style. To sum it up for you: there's nothing wrong with the mechanic (tents, vehicles, everything that can be used to store stuff being destroyable), there's something wrong with you. Less hours farming, QQing on forums, more testing, comprende? /thread

Is duping officially allowed?
[email protected] replied to switch296's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Meh I'll do the work for ou Azrail: Duping is duplicating items that have been picked up already from one of the various loot spawn location, effectively replicating one item withouth having it spawn normally in game. It's a bug within ArmA and it's been there a long time, you can do it with any item that require certain animations when picking them up, consequently with an item if you understand the mechanic behind it. Matter of fact, not too long ago you could even pick up items directly from another players bacpack and dupe it this way, that has been adressed by now. So, it's a bug that didn't cause many issues in vanilla ArmA 2, seeing how game breaking (after all the intention is to punish death by loosinng your gear and not being able to reequip instantly - THE core mechanic behind the mod) it is for DayZ, it will be fixed eventually I suppose. -
Things I wish were never introduced to DayZ
[email protected] replied to ForcefulCJS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apart from him not seeing the sun probably in a long time, the OP may be right on some points. The influx of high end military equipment in DayZ is huge and that is a problem. Every a-hole and his cousin seem to: a.) Run around with NVGs, Rangefinders and .50cal weaponry. b.) Disconnect on first sign of trouble because of the leet gearz. It's funny how people want to defend their precious gear, stashed away in off-map camps and duped in the hundreds. This is not about balanceor teamplay, it's about your ego. Get over it. The problem is, if you know where too look these things are much too easy to find, I have found 30+ crashed helicopters within the past 72 hours. I am armed and equipped for a doomsday that will make the zombie apocalypse blush in shame plus want to hide in a corner and cry. Once you get the pattern (and a car may be helpful but not mandatory) you can stockpile these items (let aloe dupe them) 'till they come out your ears. Solutions are easy: a.) Less helicpoter crash sites with Ghillies and BAF Camo clothing only there to find. Less military grad weaponry drops across the map -hangars, deerstands, barracks, crash sites, etc. Replace with appropriate civilian weaponry - 30-06 rifles, old mosin nagats, tokarevs, simonovs and the likes, scoped and unscoped. b.) Batteries for thermals, NVGs, Rangefinders. If you can't get in and out of a town alive while sporting a thermal scoped rifle, you are obviously doing somethign wrong. c.) Replace the random ghillie drops with rare ArmA2 vanilla Hunter skin drops in barns and supermarkets. These do have the upper part of the body camouflaged but you need to hide the lower part of the body. Replace camo clothing drops with Chedaki or NAPA skin drops in civilian areas. These "skins" are all in the game already, just a question of looking in the editor. -

Barbed Wire Getting Annoying
[email protected] replied to Bruce (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This has nothing to do with forcing players to take another route, the wirefences and tanktraps are deliberately used by serverhoppers to go loot unmolested. As long as you remove them with a toolbox from any direction, they need to go - they're not used as a feature but just as another means of exploiting right now.
