Stop all development; This must be added immediately

Twinkies is made by Hostess, Hostess is currently in bankruptcy and is having labor unrest due to mafia controlled labor union in NYC area. In short, in the near future the last twinkie ever produced was due to the zombies a.k.a. union members going on strike causing Hostess to go fully bankrupt. http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2012/04/17/teamster-strike-may-kill-off-twinkies-let-the-hoarding-commence/

How Is The Community Enjoying The Game?

CalUKGR you are whining. A lone wolf player needs only: 1 knife 1 matches 1 tent 1 weapon with 1 bullet 1 cow 1 cow =6400 blood 1 sheep = 3200(?) blood Each tent has 100 slots, as a lone wolf that leaves plenty of slots for cooked meat. take 6 cooked meat out with you and you have 3200 blood stored in your backpack.

Logging in next to other users

I think I have you all beat. Three Lifes ago I spawned in, INSIDE of another player. On my screen we both had the same skin, and both had the same side arm out. Took us both about half a second staring at each other to process the situation, and we just lit each other up. We both ended up dead. I thought I was looking at a bugged clone of myself until he turned around and pointed his gun at me. Still my all time favorite moment in this game. But I'm a big fan of the Stargate TV series, so your mileage might vary.

    Timing of Patch 1.5.8

Suggestion: 1. Service maintenance window announcement in IRC/Twitter/RSS/Forum/Website. 2. Send return receipt requested emails to all known server leasers and leasees announcing maintenance window requirements. Ask for a return receipt response and for them to idle in a separate private irc channel. 3. Shutdown all servers. 4. Only allow access to main database to those server leasers/leasees who are idling in irc channel. Rollout 5 servers at a time, decreasing the intervals by 5 minutes until you find the fault tolerance. 5. When that rollout is complete, start rolling out 5 servers at a time every at (fault tolerance + 5 minutes) speed. 6. Have a beer. Require leasees and leasers to sign up for a gamesurge.net account, and force them to authenticate to GS servers in the future to prevent spoofers.

    Cars

Qla, the server you were playing on lost it's connection to the central database Hive. The central DB controls the location of the tents and vehicles. Your tent and car probably reappear when the server admin does a HARD reboot of the server and allows about 90 seconds for the Hive script to finish.

    Perma Daylight Servers

Put aside the personal preferences to playing at day or night. The OP is stating a particular server is NOT running a day/night cycle AT ALL. This is either admin abuse, admin noobiness or oversight, an unstable server constantly rebooting, the server host allowing the timezone of the server machine to be changed at each Arma2 server reboot, or the OP is mistaken due to the luck of the draw as to when he logged in in relation to the server restarting. All of these except the possibility the OP just got in a unlucky log in cycle in regards to the server rebooting, are problems that are addressable.

    Simple solution to disconnect exploit

I'm all for implementing penalties as suggested in the above posts. One caveat: We need to be able to implement groups/squads. Wonky servers are a fact of life, wonky ISPs in the US (and elsewhere) are a fact of life. If you are standing next to your buddy and fighting zombies and you disconnect, your proximity to your buddy should not penalize you due to CTD/ISP/etc, etc. So, if in freefire=true and near a squadmate, and not near a non-squadmate, no penalty. If freefire=true and next to a squadmate and a non-squadmate, penalty. If freefire=true and not near squadmate and near non-squadmate, penalty. If freefire=true and not near a squadmate and not near a non-squadmate, send a bug report. :P if some sort of squad system isn't implemented, the PvPers will purposefully targets groups first,...

I agree completely. And I still hope NOTHING is done to make installation easier during Alpha/early Beta.

You're right. I mean download your newest ATI drivers... follow same procedure.

    Stuttering every 30 seconds

The 5750 is a marginal card to play Arma2. In CCC, in Gaming, IN 3d Application Settings, Make sure you turn off Anti-Alias , Anisotropic and anything else you can live without.

    .NET Framework out of memory

Download newest Nvidia drivers for your card. (You might have the installer on hand already. Try using Drive Sweeper to completely remove your NVidia graphics drivers. http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ Then go to Device Manager and uninstall any remaining "generic VGA" "generic HDMI" etc video adapters also. Reboot. Reinstall your NVidia drivers.

    Stuttering every 30 seconds

To be more specific: Dwarden, one of Rocket's coworkers and also a BIS employee, suggests turning off TurboBoost in your Bios. The other option Dwarden suggests is this: try adding this to your Arma2:CO shortcut: -exThreads=1
  16. You can follow this guide preferably: http://gibthis.com/guides/4570-steam-arma-2-co-symlink.html or you can follow this guide which is for non-steam versions, but it's the same thing, just different target folders. http://sfod-delta.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2310

    Stuttering every 30 seconds

What video card do you have? What drivers are you using? It's usually a Nvidia drivers problem, you have to change a single optino in the advanced options in the drivers. 2nd most common cause is an overclocked CPU that still has Turboboost features enabled.

IF this was an actual game...

How would you rather pay for it? - Game purchase only? (Guild Wars stylez) There is a serious problem regarding the limitations of the maximum size of maps in the VR and Arma3 engines. Unlike WoW or other games, you can not continuously expand the maps. Also: - Community developed or studio developed? Is there a difference anymore? You are using BIS IP, you need to go talk to a good IP lawyer now that you are looking into this line of thought. - Community or studio servers? or both? A few Community servers, let the Arma3 community expand outward. BIS should be cross-pollinating this game with the Arma and Helicopter series to expand their playerbase. You and Dwarden and the others should consider not talking about this further until you figure out your own future with BIS. - Kickstarter? or not? I believe you will get sued if you attempt to fund this without a legal agreement with BIS. Hey, JMHO, but you have at least a few employees or contractors with active BIS contracts working on this project in some manner. I absolutely love this mod, and don't want to see it swamped by IP lawsuits' counterclaims.

After playing the game I have a few suggestions.

All and all a very nice list of suggestions. I will just add this, it is the first four chapters of an American "survivalist" fantasy book that will be published soon. http://jamesmdakin.blogspot.com/2012/04/preview-of-upcoming-post-apoc-novel.html Here are the first four chapters of Buck. You may post them on your website as you see fit. Again, it's the sequel to Shut Down and takes place two years after the economic collapse. W. R. Flynn

    MERGED: Everything poop and pee

Not sure adding this would be useful to gameplay. Not sure we want to go done this rabbit hole, once you have thirst and urination and dehydration all in the same game, the next small step is for players to be able to drink their own or someone else's urine to survive. So really, do we want to play a game involving drinking urine? Maslow’s pyramid of hierarchical needs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs Hierarchy Maslow's hierarchy of needs is often portrayed in the shape of a pyramid, with the largest and most fundamental levels of needs at the bottom, and the need for self-actualization at the top.[1][6] Physiological needs For the most part, physiological needs are obvious – they are the literal requirements for human survival. If these requirements are not met, the human body simply cannot continue to function. Physiological needs are the most prepotent of all the other needs. Therefore, the human that lacks food, love, esteem, or safety would consider the greatest of his/her needs to be food. Air, water, and food are metabolic requirements for survival in all animals, including humans. Clothing and shelter provide necessary protection from the elements. The intensity of the human sexual instinct is shaped more by sexual competition than maintaining a birth rate adequate to survival of the species. Maslow created his hierarchy of needs from an individualistic perspective, being that he was from the United States, a highly individualistic nation.
  22. You are keeping track of the P v P murders. Keep track of the XYZ coords and timestamps of each PvP murder victim. Map that in a scatter plot graph or heat map, overlay on to Chernarus map, create freefire=true zones where Bandits players do not gain humanity, Regular players who PvP a regular player does not gain or lose humanity, Bandits players do not gain or lose humanity for P v P murders against all players, but regular players get extra bonus for killing bandits inside the zone... The hunters are given a refuge but, The hunters become the caged prey in the zone. Added bonus for those who want to maintain bandit status, they can lurk in the freefire-true zones and not regain humanity through slow regeneration. Added bonus for those who want to kill bandits, since the freefire zone is located at the spot of the murder victim, any bandit long range snipers would be open game outside the freefire zones.

    New Zombie [ghost]

PRiME, that is an awesome idea. hilarious, believable, scary, and outside the box. However there would have to be a "puke gun/nade" created and a puke firing animation created. That content creation itself will be a hilarious adventure for the mod team. P.S. Not big fan of expanding the supernatural end times frightnight scenario, I do not want to end up playing a True Blood game with werewolves, fairies, ghosts, vampires and any other random supernatural entity Rocket and the mods seem to get any ideas on from suggestions.
  24. Take your backend database of player XY location snapshots saves and create a "traffic map". Actually it's a a save point density table if you don't use a GIS map. Find the chokepoints. A bit of maths involved. convert the savepoint density map to a graphics file and overlay it on top of the Chernarus map. Add statics of the first survivors (prior to Day 0 of the mod) on the fly escape camps. Abandoned and destroyed vehicles, garbage piles, makeshift defenses, corpses and other such things. Allow loot (and maybe zombies) to spawn at these abandoned camps. More complicated: Split the database into survivor and bandit, and do the same as above. Anyone who stays in proximity to predefined bandit zones for set time period loses humanity(sniper roosts in hills and surrounding cherno/elektro/airfields for example). Add more of those hung man and dead soldier statics. Anyone in predefined bandit zones has FreeTarget=True Anyone who stays in proximity to predefined survivor zones for set period of time gains humanity, though that might be bad game mechanics as bandits can exploit it. (optionally, but not really necessary) Convert Chernarus map to a GIS compatible map. Lots of work, you don't really need the map UI, the map makes it easier to visualise. Also would make converting mod to other maps easier in the future as you would have ability to quickly find places to add more statics. All of this work would be on the backend and offline, until you feel comfortable to add the new statics.
  25. To add to my thoughts, from the DB, use the player save location n the XY coords, create a scatter plot graph with same X and Y distance ratio or scale as the chernarus map, find density and chokepoints, take the scatter plot image and overlay it on top of a chernarus map image, create more statics at those points. Could also work if you want to create "side-missions", create AI strongpoints based on the safe zones players use, such as in the forests, on top of hills, or open fields. Spawn in both a few AI and lots of zombies and have the zombies overrun the AI non-zombies. i.e. give the AI non-zombies little or no ammo or something. Have these AI spawn with same rules as current for zombies, at the same ~100 meter radius from players, it wouldn't ovewhelm the server.
