Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
LouisK replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Dissapointed not to see the missing loot spawn points fix (since It was spotted already) but meh, looking forward to next week's (or was it every two weeks?) experimental updates! Also hunting is not enabled, at least for rabbits - tried killing one and It was invencible. And something really really sad that happened to me: If you have a SKS with a PU scope, and try to swap the PU scope for a LRS, it will allow you to swap, but the LRS will not be attached to the gun and will be forever lost. (It was the first LRS I had found ever!!!!) -
Getting scared by your own shadow, trees, trees shadows, bushes, LOD bushes, LOD buildings, LOD doors, doors, buildings, and even the sun is part of the experience. Just in case, though, would anybody happen to have seen some little hobbitses carrying a ring or something? My lo... ehm.. boss told me to find them to give them a ... prize.

It was 0.40 a few days ago, at least the internal test server that showed up on my browser. I've read an article on semantic versioning a few weeks ago, what they might test as 0.42 is actually going to be pushed as 0.38 most likely, and according the semantic versioning, that means there were at least five major changes from 0.37. (Hunting, cooking, maybe even fishing?, physics, containers...) However, on a second thought, they might not follow universal semantic versioning to the letter, as otherwise the third number would be 0 every time a new version comes out.

Awesome work. Can't wait to see more stuff coming from the devblog! -
Left 4 Dead tssk tssk. It's incredibly fun to kill at the "NO BANDITS PLEASE" server. :D

Yep, as a matter of fact goku payed us a visit to a friend and myself the other day at pik kozlovka. We decided to play a british server (We're both from the americas) for the first time since it was the best choice of a full server. We spawned in our strategic spots at pik kozlovka (we're practicing sniping, we suck), we waited ten minutes and for some reason I decided to turn around and check my surroundings out of nowhere. Guess who was there, I couldn't believe I had just turned around in time before he shot us, and infact, if he would had been a normal player we would have had a time margin to react, move or shoot him. I tried to stand up and turn around but when I did that the guy dissapeared (he was at the top, he was above me by 15 meters, and the inclination was almost 90º, it was impossible for the guy to have dropped from where he was to my position without dieing in the time he did). About five seconds later he appears behind me, shoots me and somehow misses, teleports three meters infront of me, then again on the back and I'm dead. My friend was another 15 meters down closer to the road but still had a few meters from the ground, goku teleported infront of him and killed him. There was no way that guy was just passing by, we were camouflaged by bushes, had not fired a shot and had not made any sound whatsoever. He just knew where to look, not to mention he had a M4, which is completely useless for sniping, and the position we were at was well, for sniping. Has yet to happen on an american server.

Got it along with my friend

Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106
LouisK replied to mattlightfoot's topic in News & Announcements
I've had the mentioned FPS problems both when raining and not raining, so the rain is defenitely not causing it, unless there's sort of a dynamic rain system and it doesn't rain in all parts of the map at once. The FPS issues seem to happen only to certain servers, most likely during lag times and don't seem to affect all players (I had 8 FPS on a high-medium PC while my friend had 20 stable FPSs on a pretty old CPU) -
Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.34.115106

Huge FPS drop from stable 40 FPS everywhere to 10 on a field. I was fully geared running on the coast to meet a friend when a bambi got to knock me down and there was nothing I could do. The game is completely unplayable with under 10 FPS. Nvidia GTX 560ti @ 1980x1080 resolution and medium graphic settings. i5 3570k @ 3.4-3.6 ghz 8 GB RAM. So don't tell me it's my PC. Respawned in another server and it worked flawlessy. EDIT: It only happens in certain times so I can see where the confusion from the devs come from. It's pretty weird though. On a side note I LOVE the cowboy hats and the double barrel rifle. It was hell awesome. In one server I had found all the three: Mosin, SKS and Double barrel. I kept finally the mosin. By the way, is it normal that you can use 7.61 ammo on the Double barrel shotgun? Infact when I unboxed the 7.61x51 (I think) it gave me 7.61 alone -
Suggestions for new hand gestures! Post them HERE! (no, not over there. HERE!)

This will solve all the binding and remembering keys problem. -
I already proposed that in the future the zombie bunnies remain as an easter egg with an incredible rare chance to spawn!

Think a moment, why would you take antibiotics (which are things that destroy bacterias) to clean your wounds? Would you take antibiotics IRL if you had a nail thru your flesh? Think how many times you've took antibiotics and what did you use them for. With that being said, no, antibiotics just made you sick since you did not have any bacterial infection for them to care of. Antibiotics (Anti - Life (biotic)) destroy your immunological system if the dosis is high, rendering you even more immune to more diseases if you don't have any. You should only take antibiotics in case of disease (sickness status appears) and more notably for infected wounds (once again, sickness status). The cleaning wounds / antibiotics are used when your wounds get infected (You'll get some messages such as "My wounds feel itchy" and etcetera), being the first solution to the first stage of infection and the second in case you never cleaned your wounds.

It is caused by the server you've joined not being white listed to the main hive thus not having access to your character data. At least that's what happened a few patches ago and there was no mention of fix.

Dean Hall himself saying it needs "serious optimization"
LouisK replied to mjf6866's topic in General Discussion
Everyone who said that it wont be optimized has proven an incredible invalid argument to prove that dayz will not be optimized comparing it to A2 and A3. Dayz hasn't got either's engine, it has an hybrid. And optimization will be tried and done in a later stage where no more things need to be added, as optimizing it now then adding things that might break what has been done is too much of a risk right now on the Alpha. Said by Mr. R in one of the streams or a thread I remember. The fact that the optimization will be tried doesn't mean it will be successfull or it will fail. But there are things that can be optimized since the FPS drop (in comparision to A3) is caused by the DayZ mechanics itself. They've got the guy who created the engine helping them with it too, so maybe an increased optimization will be seen. I wont expect too much difference from A3, as successfully optimizing an engine for every single PC out there requieres a shitload of work and a great amount of competent engineers, but I expect an incredible performance increasement after it's done, with stable FPSs all over the map on the table. Also, that video is previous to the alpha release. Optimization for the same reason I stated before hasn't been worked on I believe so, no, it's still a pending task and hasn't been worked on, since no mention of it has been done in the patches. I believe that was one of the last streams from Mr. R and he was locking the build for release on those versions. -
Wells are completely safe. Ponds aren't unless changed in the previous patches. Didn't test actual lakes.
-
The west is the new north. I don't really like such changes, they should spread military bases all over the map and make random spawns inland too. That would be awesome. But again, it's alpha and anything is subject to numerous changes, good or bad.

Make us able to salvage weapon parts from weapons so we can repair worn/shit weapons
LouisK replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
This is already how it works. If you ment about repairing your weapon parts, then sure, why not? Hell, I even believe they will add it at some point later in development, as it sounds pretty logical; however one should not be able to repair completely to a stock pristine state the weapon attachments, since that would be incredibly hard even in real life, but maybe some duct tape there and in other parts would fix some things. Also they should consider adding different kind of damage states, for example, the bipod could get it's screws removed due to damage, and it would take a screwdriver and some screws to make it work again, however, it could also completely have a leg removen and it would be impossible to repair it unless you have much duct tape and even then you wouldn't achieve the same effect as a stock pristine one. -
Contrary to popular belief you don't have to drink/eat until you're full and you start receiving such messages. You have to drink and eat enough to reach certain levels of hydratation and food to trigger the blood regeneration. Those levels are shown already in the previous replies. I normally eat (from fresh spawn) about ten cans of food and drink a lot from wells. I achieved healthy status numerous times, even after gun fights. You also seem to lose some of the food/water when you're shot, as I went from completely healthy/healing to nothing after one shot hit me from a M4, but then I ate a few cans and drank a cantimplore and got it again.

No problem and for the record, the "melee" achieved in the mod is just a weapon with extremly low range and custom animation. Just give a pistol a hatchet model and modify it's values to fit a melee weapon. (Dispersion, range, etc.); Which by the way is a great improvement and a great example of what engine modification can achieve.

For those with low fps, it is probably not your setup.
LouisK replied to thejoshknight's topic in General Discussion
They don't want to optimize the game this early because any change they make in the future (a lot) will break the already optimization made beforehand. Mr. R. said it. -
You seem to fail to understand the concept behind a game engine. The fact that the engine is used in other things (which isn't, since modifying anything in an already existing engine already makes it a new engine) doesn't mean it doesn't have it's own engine. Every single game has an engine of it's own. The mod doesn't, because it's not a game and is running in different algorithims, languages and methods to function. Furthermore, engine implementation of the mod features makes it already incomparable, because neither you or me can understand or know what it takes to modify such engines as the source code is not open. That, sumed with the fact that direct engine != script makes both things incomparable (when it comes to which one has done it better). SA Is already on a better state since engine modification is in no way comparable to scripts injections used in the mod, being the first WAY better and flexible from the software point of view. Having access to the engine itself makes anything possible, literally. Scripts however, are limited to what the engine can currently do.

Implying you can really tell what is a bug and what isn't. As I said in another post, deal with what you're given or leave and return at beta or release. The dev team does what they think it's best for the proyect and they have an own roadmap to follow where the top priority is server structure. Gameplay is secondary, since this is an alpha supposedely for testing and not for playing.
-
Neither can be compared to each other. One is a mod, the other is a complete game (with it's own engine), which is on alpha and everything is either broken, not working as intended or incomplete. Deal with that or leave and return at a later stage of development. And even if we did compare, no, the mod isn't even comparable to the SA even at this stage. Many people bought the SA and expected it to be the mod but 1000% better. No. Not even close. The SA is pretty much the mod but with better, more complex features. Or at least it will be.
-
That's the point of an alpha, everything is probably broken and/or not working <as intended>. Yet you seem to fail the concept behind it. Found a bug? Report it and hope for the best. That's not a hard task.

Meanwhile try not playing with him? :P
