This is a continued conversation over from Reddit (put your differences aside ;) ). I am posting here as it is my understanding that the developers for the mod reside here more then on reddit. You can see what's been said at the following link, but otherwise: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ao4wa/mod_suggestion_reenable_single_player_option_in/ tl;dr There is no longer a need to disable the Single Player option on the Main Menu. Please re-enable it or a call-out to DayZ Commander to include Daizy / DayZSP as a downloadable option. History: Back in June/July 2012, a user was working in tandem with rocket on a Single Player version of DayZ. Depending on whose story you hear and believe, the project was shut down (not gonna go into the various reasons). In subsequent DayZ updates, the Single Player option in the ARMA 2 Main Menu was grayed out, and as of now is hidden altogether. This in turn disables the primary editor, which is required for the correctly working cinematic camera, among other things. Single Player mode of DayZ (DayZ SP), after a brief time-out, continued it's work though, continuing into what is now called "Daizy", along with a few other flavors by other developers. Some of the features of SP now are similarly used in current "approved" mods (NPCs, Origins). With each and every update of DayZ MOD, DayZ SP gets updated days later to bypass the Single Player option restriction. It's kind of like SimCity internet-always-on DRM: What's that freakin' point? Please just re-enable the option so we don't have to jump through hoops to get to the real editor. If that's disregarded, I'd ask that the Commander developer include SP as a downloadable option. In essence, SP should no longer be seen as something "bad" or a "hack" of DayZ: It is a fully functioning DayZ MOD with it's own branches, code, and nuances. It really is a shame that I have to go out of my way to load the proper cinematic camera or to just play around in the normal editor with the various DayZ specific models, even going so far as to creating a special launcher on my YouTube channel. Edit My argument here is more for just bringing back the Single Player option itself: I've played DayZ SP, though only to muck around with flying something or to make a guide video or two, otherwise I've never had extended play in it. I personally want the Single Player option back so that I don't have to load an SP mod of DayZ to use the proper map editor for the cinematic camera (the camera crosshair can't be removed in the ALT+E editor). Double Edit For those interested, launcher links below. Note that I haven't updated it to DayZ 1.7.6.1 yet, so you'll need to pre-load DayZ 1.7.5.1 first BEFORE running the launcher. If you feel sketched out at running an app/launcher, the required files and instructions for manually setting up SP are in the "Manual Download Method" link in the forum link. http://theguidez.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=523

Both communities really branched into SP, but I only bring it up as an alternative to the developers doing something: my goal here is to have the Single Player button re-enabled. In regards to SP: I haven't dug into the SQF code for a while, but as of last check it's the mission files that do all the hard work. The changes in dayz_code.pbo were strictly to re-enable the single player option, and the cheat menu/ai/etc are embedded into the mission files themselves. In allowing the SIngle player button back would allow players to simply load up the SP mission if they felt like it, not have to do funky things like having copies of @dayz and downloading from sketchy sites

can we please stop donations for gear servers !
guidez replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
BMRF.ME has something similar, but the packages are things like "Compass, map, golder revolver", so nothing extremely major. I currently pay $50 a month for a VPS through 1and1.com (used to be their $70 variant), and had a one time $5 white-listing fee. I took nothing for myself from that payment: It went directly into the monthly cost of the VPS, which I would regularly show to the community. You'd be amazed at how well it kept the hackers out (only 4-5 incidents in a 6 month period if I recall correctly), and the server received enough funding for ~6 months of usage. That all being said, my personal opinion is that it's stupid to pay X amount of dollars for an AS50/Max Gear/Etc. People who do so don't realize that they are essentially playing ARMA 2 at that point xD -
Quite amazing that someone tries to think about everyone and then everyone teams up on him.

You guys need to stop with the community splitting. Really. Just stop. We're trying to understand on how to better work together, but all you guys keep spouting is "Reddit is a bunch of children pew pew We are the Official pew pew". If you want to go into numbers though, Reddit is hardly a minority. These forums have around ~1500 concurrent users, and total around 140k members. /r/DayZ has around ~500 concurrent users, with a 49k memeber/subscribed base. We need to mention though that 80% of the ~1500 concurrent users are actually Guest accounts which may or may not have accounts on these forums (IE; lurkers), and thus concurrent "members" on these forums equals to ~300. All numbers aside, BOTH communities are equally large and "in charge".

Here it is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MHB79BM There have been 300+ responses already, 2/3's of them from the DayZMod forums. *Edit* And mod's don't you dare delete this post -.-*

This summarizes the effective of most conversations yesterday:
-
Totally agreed.
-
Essentially the point is that there was a disconnect between the communities. Community ( A ) had a large conversation on a certain update, and decided on performing that update with the consensus of a large portion of that community. Community ( B ) felt left out of said conversation and decision, and retaliated before understanding all the facts. Much name calling and poor words were then exchanged. Both parties at large are still arguing over things that no longer really make any sense. The bigger issue in all this is not that a change was made, but that there was a disconnect in communication between the parties. Since both communities are quite large and are capable of pushing their weight around either way, it is my personal recommendation that the DEV team elicit conversation between both communities in full prior to making a change, whether it be directly within both communities or via a third party site. Note: I am part of both communities, but have been more a member of ( B ) in the past few months. Needed to say that or else ( B ) will get up in my grill xD

I specifically left out a portion of my previous post, as I thought you might reply with what you just said. Whether or not the game content is entirely different or not, un-informed individuals will confuse the MOD with SA. It will happen: people confused DayZ with WarZ, and you think they won't confuse it between "DayZ the mod" and "DayZ SA"? Which brings me back to my point: telling people to suck it up or leave doesn't just impact the mod, it impacts the future of SA as well. Changes done in the mod, both good and bad, will have a potential positive or negative impact on SA. So whether you think reddit is a bunch of whiney ninnies doesn't matter: they are a large chunk of the community, and saying that their opinion doesn't matter is a simple matter of short sited-ness.
-
Apparently you don't quite understand quite what a community project is. Feel free to stop by the reddit anytime, preferably with an open mind some time.
-
Frankly there is no difference here between a "paying" game and a non-paying one, but if you want to go that route; As it stands today, DayZ the mod shares the name with DayZ SA. One is free, and one isn't. When you tell someone to "leave if you don't like it, your opinion doesn't matter", you are sending them that message for SA as well.
-
That's pretty much the motto over at The WarZ. Instead of dealing with their problems or talking things over, they just tell people to leave.
-
What do you have against people who play CoD? The "actual" community is THE community, whether you are talking about forums, reddit, tunggle, opendayz, or whatever. The people who "run" the project is the community.
-
Your poll in itself becomes biased. If you want an "unbiased poll", then you post a poll on a third party site devoid of relation to either Reddit or these forums, and then communicate that poll to BOTH communities, so that the poll gets results from both sides regardless of membership.

Given your signature, avatar, and total ignoring of rockets combined track record and statements, I have chosen to ignore your post altogether. -

They are faster, they just stop to hit you ;) -
Note: The reason I ask users not to use AVG is because it's a pile of crap that barely works anymore and is almost entirely bloatware now. Avira or Avast are better. MSE can also be used, but some users reported issues with the Launcher when running MSE. Some anti-virus just doesn't like the calls to delete/move files around. But like I said: If all else fails or you feel uncomfortable with the Launcher, the link to the manual files/installation is below the Launcher link on my forums. The instructions include how to load SP through DayZ Commander.

The primary threat will always be players, but I would LOVE to go back to the days when I was scared to just agro ONE zombie. Today, it's "Choo Choo, join the zombie train" -
If you do a Google search for "DayZ Single Player", my video should be the first thing link to pop-up (If not just head over to my channel). The video contains a link to my forums area, with a post containing the Launcher for Single Player, which I coded myself. Below the link for the Launcher is another link to the manual method of downloading/installing/loading Single Player along with instructions in the Read Me on how to use SP WITHOUT the launcher. Anyone wanting to see the source for the code of the Launcher, feel free to ask and I will send it. Given my track record (and note the number of posts with no ban ;) ) you can rest assured that there is no malware with the Launcher. *Edit* The version on my Launcher is Daizy with 1.7.4.4, complete with PowerGrid mod and Bots. The cheat menu is also enabled by default. Like others said, you will get bored with it VERY quickly, but it's a great tool to teleport around the map, learn to fly, etc
