I've found a couple pair of "Red Punk" colored boots. Not my thing but interesting. A buddy of mine and I were talking about clothing dye options last night also. Great idea.

I've met a few nice people because luck was with me. Most of the time however it's just somebody looking to get an easy kill when you turn your back. DayZ players are truly products of their environment. I try to avoid others to gather my own supplies and be left alone. I initially looked for "friendly" players but since only 1 out of every 50 were actually friendly I gave up on that and had to develop a set of rules. I don't KOS if I can get away clean. I shoot on sight anyone that is armed and may have me at a disadvantage. I shoot anybody who is armed and runs when I call out. I shoot anybody who fails to answer a verbal greeting quickly. I don't care if you can't speak English just reply in a friendly tone that's a start. If you see me and you have a weapon out, it's already a gun fight. I've been caught behind the 8 ball too damn many times trying to talk to people on equal terms. The only chance at parley is if I am more heavily armed and they have a melee weapon or none at all. If I am given the opportunity to talk to people I'll see if they need anything. I drop item and leave. Even if I only have a flashlight I don't want anybody else's stuff. As long as I'm allowed to go my own way I'm perfectly capable of getting my own kit. Because I have a thing about being restrained I do NOT lay down my weapons. I'd rather get shot standing and armed than let some asshole have the pleasure of executing me after taking what little I have. I can always re-spawn. I don't want to play this way, never did. But, those are the rules as defined by others and no amount of discussion will stop the seemingly endless supply of assholes. As long as the zombies are only a minor annoyance I don't see "strength in numbers" becoming important to most. It would be really great if PVP (which is important and enjoyable at times) would be for specific high traffic areas where fighting over known resources makes sense (not as game rules that bring penalties from admins, just civility). Coming across a person or a small group could lead to cooperation while travelling through the smaller towns to those larger areas. But, nobody seems to want cooperation and are apparently content to just wantonly cause as much misery as possible.

I had that happen on the server I usually play on also. Played for 4 hours, logged off, logged back in about 30 minutes later to a new spawn with a totally different appearance and genitalia to my default. Shut the game down and was looking around here. Restarted the game, logged into the same server and was greeted with my old character back from the dead but with the same gear and same area as before the 4 hour game session. Needless to say I logged off again.

Wow, thanks. That cleared things right up. I suddenly feel so much better now. It's amazing, all you had to do was show up and vomit out a couple of insulting remarks and the world seems brighter somehow.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

I just try to find the gear that camo the best. Right now that's the TTsKO jacket (which has 6 storage spots in stead of 4) and pants. I've switched from a ballistic helmet to one of the new berets but, since they don't provide the same ballistic protection why wouldn't I wear a helmet? If they would come out with the belt system like in the mod it would open up more choices in clothing and appearance. I'd happily stick with a hoodie if I had enough places to store essential gear other than a stupid shirt pocket. I don't KOS as a general rule but have been ganked so much in DayZ that it's almost stupid not to unless you're in a group with superior numbers. In fact, I usually play a survivalist and try my best to avoid other players. Turning the other way just gets me shot at an angle. In all the time I've been playing the mod and now the standalone I've met a person who didn't immediately try to kill me exactly 10 times or so. Almost all of them were when there were only two of us on the server and would team up out of convenience. In standalone it happened once. Reason that it happened? I was fully geared and he didn't have a weapon. I chose not to KOS the guy and helped him out. Luckily he turned out NOT to be a complete wank. True "friendlies" seem to only happen on PVE only servers with AI combatants. Right now I don't think there is a game mechanic requiring a gas mask but certain zones in the future may require one to lessen risk of certain infections. They need a broader variety of decent equipment / uniforms that would at least give the option of being able to tell a teammate from NOT a teammate. -
This was my reset today: I was playing on the same server I've been playing on for several days. I played for about 4 hours and then logged off to do some laundry. Thirty minutes later, logged back onto the same server... character wipe. No hop. Character not only re-spawned without gear but also as a completely different set up to my default settings. Server was DayZ IL 2-8 hosted by Gameservers.com ETA: Okay. After posting this I restarted the game, logged back in and found myself basically back to normal but at a save point prior to my 4 hour game session. So, while not as frustrating as a complete wipe it sure points to a hive save issue.

Need more for a full time group for: Military Hardware Server
CMoth replied to RenanDaKing's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Tried Military Hardware last night. Just seems like a deathmatch server with everybody being fresh spawns trying to kill other fresh spawns. Not a very friendly place. -
The type of base or stash depends on the servers. It used to be fairly nice to set up an actual base in one of the towns when toolkits and etools wren't handed out like candy. But, now that every server seems to want to start you out with everything it just makes sense to just use small loot stashes using sandbags. When I can get a vehicle that's just good enough to drive I'll take that in the middle of nowhere and damage it up so that it needs serious repair. Yes, it's visible from the air (no tree cover is good enough) but it's just used for loot I don't mind getting pillaged.
-
Move. Your. Shit. Once a location is discovered, it'll be hit again. This is why I don't use tents. I use sandbags for stashes and keep limited supplies that I will want if I re-spawn. Otherwise just accept that any above ground stash will eventually be discovered and pillaged.

Updating from 1.7.7.1 to 1.8 - is it worthwhile
CMoth replied to Gwraspe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I made the mistake of automatically patching to 1.8. It isn't that the patch has any problems but until the servers you like playing on ALSO update, stick with the version of the patch that they run on. -
My last friendly story developed like this: A new player spawns on an Rmod server I play on. He asks for help, I did my usual supply drop. After a couple of hours of giving him play tips I decided to accept his offer to teach him how to better play the game. I dropped my better gear off at my stash and took in some standards. Packed some similar gear in a vehicle and went to meet him. Gave him some decent starting gear (med supplies, food, extra water bottle, G17, M4A3 CCO and 10 stanag mags). We then started looting some spots and looking for helo crashes so I could show him how to approach and lure out zombies. It got dark so we then ran around doing night operations. Before I logged off after playing with the guy for about 4 hours, I dropped him off at an armored vehicle I had found earlier so he could store his own spoils and sent him on his way so he could establish his own stash spot. It was a lot of fun. Finding fellow survivors can happen. Don't give up but accept that treachery is all apart of the game play. I even joked with a buddy on Raidcall that the most valuable lesson I could have taught the kid was to have blown up the apc while he was driving away and say, "By the way, don't trust anyone". But, I didn't. Have fun.

Not trusting "friendlies" is just common sense. I've hardly ever heard a Bandit say that they weren't friendly. When confronted with, "Are you friendly", most are going to say, "Yes". Mostly because; a. They've been spotted, and b. The other player has the drop on you. What's going to happen if you say no? You're probably getting shot. I've also hardly ever had an invite from ANYONE that didn't turn out to be some kind of set-up. So, I don't tell people where I am when asked. If I'm going to help someone I drop the loot in a spot and tell them where it is and leave the area. If they don't want to trust me then they don't have to come get the gear. Any offer of help can be a set-up. Any supply drop can be an ambush. If you're desperate enough to go for it then you're probably low enough on supplies and health that it probably doesn't matter if you get killed. That's not to say I haven't lucked out and come across truly friendly people who are looking for a team-mate. That has lead to some good times. But, the mistrust is part of the tension that all of us in some way obviously are wanting from this. THAT is what makes DayZ a superior product to the cookie-cutter titles getting cranked out.

So I realized why I'm so attached to my gear.
CMoth replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I also get attached to my gear and preferred kit. I run a survivalist not a hero. I want to see how long I can survive in game while collecting needed supplies and gear. I avoid players if at all possible and do NOT go into population centers at all. If I wanted to play death-match I'd have stuck to my XBox and FPS titles. I'm not knocking players that take a new spawn and go sprinting into Cherno or Elektro to do PVP, play the style you want. I'm just not into that. But, when I do eventually die it just means I can start a new stretch of survival gaming. Awesome. -
Does anyone else think the tractor is hilarious?
CMoth replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It may not be the vehicle but how the in-game physics are interpreting at the time of the collision. On an Rmod server I barrel-rolled a T55 tank after clipping a rock. -
Just needing confirmation about a recent problem
CMoth replied to CMoth's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Here's hoping the servers I've invested in update soon. Here's also hoping to no problems after they do.
