Your definition of "gamer" is too narrow and needlessly exclusionary then. Implying that FPS and competitive games are the only "real games" is like saying action movies are the only "real movies". Seriously though, what is difference between something like candy crush and something like Dr. Mario? Is someone who rocks a couple hours of Dr. Mario every day not just as much of a gamer as someone who plays competitive Counter-Strike 16 hours a day?

You're right. I forget that about Wii U, they get a lot of super popular exclusives but they also miss out of a ton of games that almost everyone else has access to.
-
Well. In the West Wii U hasn't done so well. But Nintendo doesn't have anything to worry about in the Asian market or the handheld market, Xbox isn't likely to catch on any time soon in the East, so Sony is there only competition on that front and the 3DS doesn't really have any competition aside from tablets and smartphones. I think the Sega comparison is a little premature. Sega only had one franchise that sold systems, and they miffed that franchises outings on like four systems in a row. So of course they were gonna fail. Nintendo still makes good games and they have at least three franchises that are guaranteed buys for tens of millions of people, just the Wii U system itself was a stupid idea. The games for it are good, if not a year late at least from what I've seen. There are already a bunch of games for the Wii U that I wish I could give a try some time. But, the system itself is just so stupid that nobody wanted it and as such I probably won't get a chance to.

http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/ESA_EF_2013.pdf This study has the number pegged at 45/55 in favor of men. That number grows more even every year, it is an effect 50/50 split. http://www.geekwire.com/2013/dudes-38-xbox-users-female-51-kids/ Xbox has a 38/62 split, where as Nintendo has a legitimate 50/50 split or possibly more women than men if you believe Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118263-Nintendo-President-More-Women-Use-Our-Platforms

Lol. Them sweeping and inaccurate generalizations of huge groups of people. Shits a lot easier than not assuming things about people based of a mistakenly binary view of gender, amirite?

King Kong ain't got shit on me.

Did you not finish the last paragraph? "Of course, I'd have to qualify that statement with the concession that there are still a lot of women with stupid hard ons for competitive gaming, and men like myself who have totally hate the competitive gaming scene and stick to stomping pubs."

Pro tip: Borderlands 2. Got my wife into shooters that way. As far as introduction to shooters goes, its like one long lesson in playing FPS's interceded with hilarious and compelling storyline as well as RPG loot finding and character buildling. My wife couldn't get enough of it, now shes game for almost any FPS.

You know, 50% of all gamers are women now. Its 2014, everyone play video games at similar rates. It doesn't matter what part of social spectrum you look at, you'll probably find a lot of gamers. The one caveat to that would be age, but as far as people who grew up with access to the internet are concerned gaming is fairly universal. Now, that isn't to say that PC gaming doesn't skew slightly toward men (Around 60/40, with the percentage of men rising when you're talking about games that require more advanced systems.) and DayZ specifically doesn't appeal to mostly a male audience. But just because you don't see women playing the games you like, doesn't mean they aren't there. The lack of women playing DayZ has to do with how griefer prone the game tends to be. A lot of women don't care to be teabagged and told over direct chat how much of a fag they are, and tend to gravitate toward games with less antagonistic communities. Women in general don't have the same stupid hard on for competitive gaming that men tend to. Of course, I'd have to qualify that statement with the concession that there are still a lot of women with stupid hard ons for competitive gaming, and men like myself who have totally hate the competitive gaming scene and stick to stomping pubs. Yes... its the thinking they don't like. Wow.

DayZ should always be about survival...

From the looks of it everyone thinks your idea is terrible and you should feel bad, mate. Hope this helps you gain some perspective and grow as a person. You'll be in my thoughts little guy, never give up. -

Make sure to nab all the vehicles and set up the base right outside Elektro. Preferably in the shape of a giant dick, if possible. -

MGC doesn't want bases that become invisible when you log out. He wants bases that are completely impenetrable so that he doesn't have to worry about them when he is offline for a couple days in a row, and everything will be nice and safe whenever he decides to log back in. Silly, I know. But I guess he doesn't want to have to worry about hiding it at all, and he probably always wants his vehicle safe and his pile of weapons there when he needs them. Terrible game play, I know. I tried explaining it too him in simple terms but he doesn't seem to get the problem with his idea. -

Anyway, the whole conversation is moot. As there is no way it anything close to what you want will ever happen, I'm looking around for the right video without any luck, but Rocket has said as much when base building is brought up. But I'll bump this tomorrow so everyone else can confirm how terribly unpopular this idea would be with the DayZ community. G'Night. -
I have a friend, owns DayZ mod and Standalone. Plays once every few months, all he does is get on a hospital and try to snipe people. Then he complains about how boring it is. I have since stopped asking him to play DayZ. Some people just lack the creativity, intelligence and the fortitude that are needed to make DayZ a compelling game. I suggest you do the same with your friend, it sounds like maybe eventually he might acquiesce and give it a shot. But the kind of person that says any game, let alone DayZ "is for noobs" is probably looking for a more straight forward experience with rounds and mission and storylines to guide him along through a frag fest. If he was forced to come up with his own gameplay as DayZ does, he would probably get bored and quit quickly anyway.

DayZ should always be about survival...

But the world does keep playing when you're not around. Vehicles can be taken, tents can be raided, spots you camp can be looted. This is how DayZ is, it is a major selling point to many many people and to completely ignore that precedent now would be suicidal of the devs. Hell, many people play this game specifically to hunt down hidden caches, you'd be completely killing that aspect of the game. Hell, why even hide your cache well if it is magic and can't be broken into. So I guess that aspect of the game goes out the window too. Seriously though, the devs are never going to add anything let alone something as powerful as bases that just can't be interacted with by anyone, except with the owners permission (which is essentially what you're asking for if you make this tied to your character being logged in). They might add locks that require lock picks or explosives. They might make it generally very complex to bust someones base. But I can guarantee you that they will never ever in a million years add anything you can't carry on your survivor that will be safe from other players when you log out. -

So, you want a little stash out in the open, completely off limits other players when you aren't around that will no doubt house a massive cache of weapons because nobody was able to nail down the two - three hours a day that you happen to play? The rest of the server won't be playing 24/7 either, and they want to bust your base on their time not wait around for a chance that you might be playing so that the magic force fields will lift. Nothing about this screams good game play, what if someone only logs in twice a week? But their immortal fortress gets to sit right in the middle of town, where everyone can see it, but nobody can attempt to take it because magic? What about people who only log in once a month? How littered with crap do you want the servers to be, anyway? No, what you're asking for here is a permanent indestructible base in the middle of everyone else's persistent world. Sorry, but a key aspect of DayZ is that the world keeps playing when you aren't around. -

The hell? So your stash would be completely safe when you weren't guarding it? Pffft.... No, that is terrible and will never be in the game. I ain't much for neckbearding but that seriously makes me want to scream "GTFO carebear" at my TV screen. Losing your stuff is part of DayZ. Nothing is ever safe if it didn't log out with your survivor, that won't ever change. Don't want someone jacking your loot while you sleep/work? Hide it better. -

Not worded well. Explain what you mean by "bases should be untouchable 5 minutes after the last base member logs off", do you mean they should likely be in ruins five minutes after the last person logs? -

Lol. Why does everyone think they'd be Rick Grimes in a zombie apocalypse? That totally isn't what you'd do in real life, in real life what you'd be doing is trying to eat people because you were turned into a zombie within the first two days after patient zero. However, DayZ affords you the fantasy of actually surviving Z-Day and going on to be the 1 in a several hundred thousand who aren't infected. It is probably the least realistic aspect of DayZ, so be happy that you get even that. As far as I'm concerned, DayZ should always be a struggle or people will just start killing each other for lulz. I hope base building is limited to existing buildings and that they don't hold up well at all, especially if you'd don't have someone logged in clearing the zed/bandits away from your barricades. -
I was talking about the mods to vanilla servers you chud, man why are the Epoch crowd so up every ones ass about how cool merchants in DayZ is? No, Epoch is a different game entirely, that game of course is Rust.
-
Really? There are literally hundreds of servers, all daylight, within all population ranges on my browser. If anything there are too many servers, allowing people to server hop far to easily in my opinion. Wish it was more like experimental with all the servers constantly packed with people. I always hear people complaining about not being able to find a server, where do you live if you don't mind me asking? I've heard finding a servers can be a little more difficult in Australia, but on the west coast of the US it is easy.
-
Ehhh.... Mods that added a shit ton of military spawns ruined the vanilla mod. Turned DayZ into a stupid slow team deathmatch and the vast majority of people lost interest in the DayZ when it stopped being somethine new and special and became just another shooter, same could happen in the standalone. Luckily Dean is focused on the survival aspect and that alone will make the game more interesting than the nonsense the mod ended up being.

Dean said snow and other extreme weather would be coming in Q3 2014. Snow won't keep on the ground, but it'll fall and make you cold. Should be interesting.
