Yup, and Cherno doesn't have any those either.
  2. In my experience, the people of Massachusetts are a bizarre and rare blend of very intelligent and horribly racist. For some reason that makes me feel like fatigues would fly there, but either way there is a big difference between wearing a camo jacket once in a while and dressing in full military regalia on the regular.
  3. Yeah, but up here in the firearm-unfriendly states the general opinion is that only unibombers, serial killers and child diddlers wear camo gear if they aren't A. Active Duty. B. Hunting. I have the same opinion when it comes to DayZ, and so far it has done a good job of keeping me safe.
  4. I feel like the problems you're experiencing stem mostly from duping. With everyone spawning in the NE is seems like most people who actually loot to get gear are mostly carrying civilian stuff now. But you've got bandit groups out there duping M4s with hacked mags for their entire squad every time they die. Duping needs to be fixed, then the database needs a good wipe. That'd go a long way towards fixing the problem.

They aren't badly optimized, they're just more complex than the terrible Arma 2 cities, this will be fixed after they upgrade to DX11 and no they aren't sidetracking other work. Any time you have the thought that one piece of work is taking away man hours from unrelated work, it isn't. In all situations pertaining to the development of DayZ. Hope that answered your questions.

I thought the point was survival in a post apocalyptic wasteland under the constant threat of attack from both zombies and bandits. Not "survival in a post apocalyptic wasteland under the constant threat of zombies and bandits, unless you feel like going on a nice relaxing hike, then you'll be fine." As far as I'm concerned there shouldn't be a safe haven from undead or bandits without doing a helluva lot of work. In post apocalypse fiction, characters will often be forced into conflict with various antagonists because people tend to follow well worn paths, old roads, railways, trails. They do this not because of bad strategy, as it would be considered in DayZ, but because nature can often times be largely impassable, dangerous or inhospitable. With Arma 2, BI seems to have largely ignored this, all the forests have barely any brush, no downed trees, no steep cliffsides, no impassable rivers. Everything is as manicured as a golf course and trees are all spaced widely enough to allow easy passage, even in the deepest forests. Your character doesn't stumble when is traveling over rough terrain or foliage, there is no threat of spraining an ankle from a missed step, you can plow through pretty much any foliage you come across really, trees included. Traveling through a forest in DayZ is far less dangerous than traveling on a paved road, this isn't realistic at all and leads to a lot of unrealistic tactics being commmonplace in DayZ. Unless they make some revolutionary choices in crafting the stamina, health, nutrition and disease systems I just don't see survival ever being a challenge in the forests of Cherno. Therefore, I don't think the bulk of the map should be made up of forests. I'd like to see most of the map covered different types of cities, suburbs, small rural communities, sprawling exurbs, commercial centers, retail centers, perserved historical neighborhoods with older architecture, entire towns that were burned to the ground. Honestly, limitless potential there. I would keep some forests on the map, but they really need to be as close to "hand crafted" as some of the newer cities are in addition to actually being more challenging to traverse than a mostly flat paved road.

    DayZ PS4 Discussion

My opinion: It'll be good for DayZ. It'll ensure a level of optimization that BI never reached with Arma 2 or 3. Arma 2 ran like crap and still does, Arma 3 was a little better but still waaaaay too server dependent as far as frames per second go. This means that both Sony and BI are confident that DayZ will eventually be made efficient enough to run on substandard PS4 hardware at lowest settings, most likely. It will lead to added gamepad support for recent console converts, (they're more numerous than you'd think this generation, everyone knows and understands why PC is superior at this point.) as well as people who suffer from disabilities that prevent them from using a mouse. Yes, we all know KB/M is better, but for some people that just isn't an option. Gamepads are standard issue for a lot of PC gamers who have moved from the basement to the living room and more options is always a better thing when it comes to input devices. Direct X 11 has finally been confirmed, this is nothing but positive and from a consumer standpoint makes me happy that they're going with a modern API and not sticking with the ancient Direct X 9 or trying to stumble through BIs first attempt at rendering a modern game with OpenGL. Though, this probably has some Linux users disappointed. Hopefully this leads to a more responsive and aesthetically pleasing user interface that'll look natural on larger displays, a more simplified and cleaned up server browser with better use of filters and some sort of "Join best server" button, higher production values for sound design to take more advantage of home theatre sound, and a bunch of bonus content created between 1.0 PC release and the PS4 release that'll be patched into the PC version ala Terraria. Please god... let it mean cross platform play. Not only do I have a lot of friends who went with PS4 this generation, but also having a bunch of controller users on in a game where everyone is trying to kill you for your pants all the time sounds like a breath of fresh air. I hope this also means public BI run servers. I'm really sick of there being shameless badmins in every BI game, give me an option to escape such things.

Why not make the whole map one huge city? Because that would be stupid, and wasn't what I was saying at all. Nice slippery slop, however. But, for the most part forests are boring areas where nothing ever happens, there is never any player interaction and for the most part it goes completely un-used, and there is really no getting around that. You might think they're pretty, or whatever your reasons are for liking them. But they don't add much if anything to gameplay, except for being a pointless timesink. Slogging through a forest is the DayZ equivalent of "Kill five rats".

Could not disagree more. Wilderness for the most part = Unused map space. I'd say put as many cities as you can on the map.

So what is DayZ, exactly ?

Its the story of how your character died. However long, or short that story may be.

Too late to start playing Dayz Mod?

I miss the vanilla mod. Not so much 1.8+, but earlier versions of the vanilla mod were the game to play back in the day. Too bad stuff like Epoch and Overwatch got so popular. If I'm going that route though, I'd just play Wasteland on Arma 3.
  12. Every potential player behavior? No. The idiots on this message boards coming up with imaginary reasons this mechanic wouldn't work? Absolutely.

    Small Chernarus

What if there were zombies everywhere, including forests? Less boring?
  14. Really don't get why people are saying this would promote server hopping, you're not going to know if the server you're on has the item you're looking for and you're not going to be able to look everywhere on said server either. So hoppers wouldn't have any advantage, especially if the chance for rare items is tied to server population. I also think people are taking Dean's number WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to literally. It won't be 100 guns for a million players, but that is the general idea: Loot distributed proportionally across all servers with some items being so rare that they won't be spawned at all on some servers. Lastly, there are a lot of people coming up with scenarios about why a mechanic like this won't work: You're not especially bright. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise, if you think you have already figured out some way to circumvent this mechanic then the game developers have no doubt already thought of that possibility and have a solution to that potential problem already. All the people who's responses consisted of "Durrr... People will just hoard the items forever!" or "Huuuurrr..... Imma throw all the items in a lake!!!!" this is mostly about you.

DayZ lagging with good computer? HELP!

I wouldn't. You won't get much better FPS and your game will look like crap. Keep your resolution at 1080 or 720p (depending on your monitors default resolution) if at all possible. Keep antialiasing on low, and turn on Alpha to Coverage on for All grass and trees.

DayZ lagging with good computer? HELP!

GPUs generally aren't the issue at all in DayZ, you could probably get the same frames with HD4000 series. It is all about getting the most out of your CPU.

DayZ lagging with good computer? HELP!

The game is unoptimized, you'll be able to run it fine later on. For now, turn object detail down to low or very low. That'll give you the biggest boost in FPS, also make sure post processing, ambient occlusion and clouds are all set to off as those will each give you a few more FPS. Run your textures at Very High, as well as Texture Filtering. I've heard running shadows on High offloads that process to your GPU, so I'd do that as well.

    Arma 3 DayZ?

Like people have said, there is Breaking Point. But its not that good. Altis is terrible for DayZ, Thirsk is better but it really doesn't make up for how boring that mod is.

    Quick question on night time

They haven't said they won't fix it, but they haven't put forth a plan for it like they seem to have for every other bug. Hopefully the new renderer will open up some avenues they currently don't have in order to fix this problem. My thought on the subject it to just make things unrealistically bright outside at night. If you can see at night without jacking up your gamma then there'll be less of a reason to exploit it, light sources could still be useful for searching inside dark buildings. If peoples only choice is: A. Use a gimpy flashlight that can't be used as a melee weapon and puts a giant "Kill me" sign on my back. B. Jack up my gamma or C. Find a daytime server then nobody is going to choose A.
  20. Make it realistic, so that you pass out trying to lug it around on foot and if you try to hip fire it'll break your god damn arm.
  21. Its not even that simple, they have to add the majority of the content before they start working on performance otherwise new content could bork whatever performance gains they make. They aren't picking and choosing, they're following the same process every other game goes through.
  22. What are you talking about? I game on a Core 2 Quad Q9650 and DayZ runs fine 50fps in the woods, 30fps in towns. Turn your object detail down. Either way, game development simply doesn't work like that. So your question is pointless, in the Alpha stage they add content, in the Beta stage they bug fix and optimize. This is how it works on every other game, and this is how its going to work on DayZ. If you can't run DayZ right now, then oh well, you still have the full release that you pre-ordered to look forward to. You just can't mess around with the crappy little alpha they gave you for free along with it, maybe when Beta rolls around your rig will be able to handle it.

    Any News on Global Chat?

Yeah, that's cute and fuzzy to say and all but to hell with that nonsense. Sometimes people are idiots and they want stupid shit. That doesn't mean you have to give it to them just "so they can play the way they want". Sometimes you have to make a decision that a some people disagree with in order to make something better overall, instead of worrying about pleasing everyone.

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Do you ever post anything positive about DayZ mods aside from vanilla? Seems like you've always got a massive axe to grind. It gets hard to take any of your negative analysis' seriously when you shit on every other mod every chance you get. I'm just assuming your obvious confirmation bias has filled in the blanks between "Mos1ey in particular experiences desync while playing Breaking Point" and "Breaking Point has bad optimization".

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Off the top of my head, Half-Life 1. Started with the Quake two engine, ended up with Gold Source.
