There hasn't actually been much of any talk about this issue actually. Its confirmed that server hopping and combat logging have a fix in the works. But this sort of "gear tourism" on low pop servers hasn't been mentioned once in any of the dev blogs I've read. I heard Dean saying they would limit the amount of ultra rare military loot via a regulated economy, but that didn't have anything to do with this issue.
-
Oh my god.... Can you respond without reminding me its an alpha? Seriously, I'm NOT talking about RIGHT THIS SECOND. How many time can I say that before it clicks with you? Also two things, first I never got upset with anything aside from how dense you're being about saying its an alpha in every sentence you type and second I never demanded anything, I said it would be a good idea. Thing is, you say its all temporary but this system was final in the mod. Sure Dean Hall and Co. have said they have a solution for combat logging and server hopping. Great, that is definitely needed, but what is going to stop people from jumping on a 2/100 person server in the final game, clearing out an airfield and then jumping to a 95/100 server? If the answer is "Nothing" then Public Hive is doomed, again.
-
Having an excess of servers allows people to hop to one of the dozens and dozens of servers with 2 - 3 people on it, gear up at absolutely no risk and then jump back to a high pop server to "hunt" taking all of ten minutes to get a complete high end kit. This behavior effects the game in a negative way, just like it did in the mod. Limiting the amount of servers to only what would be necessary would combat this to a degree. Of course, once private servers are released then this will all be moot, as official hive will die off just like they did in the mod. But I rather like the idea of hive servers and it would be nice they didn't become extinct like in the mod. However, if it is going to be the same system of people being able to get all their gear without any consequence on a low population server and then switch to a high pop when they are at their most powerful, then I don't see any way that isn't going to be the case.
-
Who the hell is talking about right this minute? Why do you keep acting like I'm demanding they change this or I won't play. I'm saying it would be intelligent in the long term to limit the amount of offical hive servers so that there would be a more consistent population and DayZ experience no matter which server you play on, just like pretty much every other gear based MMO ever created.
-
Yeah, I forgot. Can't talk about anything we'd like to see in the future on DayZ in the DayZ Alpha forums, that'd just be silly.
-
Why not intelligently limit the amount of servers, so that there aren't dozens and dozens of "dead" servers and yet there is enough room for everyone?
-
Okay, not thirty. But maybe limit official hive servers based on need? I don't see why most servers shouldn't be close to full. This map is huge, and even with 40 people you may not run into a single person all day.
-
I think you bring up a good point. Of course the next couple posts will be by the normal malformed chuds with their stock response to anything that might make the game harder. "Just let people play the way they want...ehhhhhh(general shrill nasal whines)"

Sending you an invite, same name was here.

Want to start a small group in standalone.

SteamID is Hefeweizen, I'll shoot you an invite. -
Looking for someone/small group to play with.
hefeweizen replied to tbossrules's topic in New Player Discussion
SteamID is Hefeweizen, sent you a friend request. I'm on the West coast and I usually play late at night, and sometimes midday. Hope we can meet up some time. Anyone else feel free to hit me up if you're trying to play some DayZ. -
How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??
hefeweizen replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Got cha, so everyone hates it and you do too, but you have no issue with being part of the problem. That logic sounds legit. I don't really like sniping anymore, my squad loves it but sitting prone on some rooftop or hill for an hour makes the game boring as hell, imo. -

hefeweizen replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
I've found one in a barracks before. Long range, not PU. But in my opinion, I'm glad they're harder to get. Everyone hates getting shot by some guy you have no chance of spotting from 1000m, it is about as annoying as falling off a ladder. Close and mid-range combat is where this game thrives and is most compelling, I don't think anyone minds going out to a hail of gunfire. Snipers should be limited to a couple per server at most. -
Here is a thought I had. As a nod to the DayZ Mod and its fans, how about introducing a set of clothing options that would allow players to dress like the DayZ mod survivors, as well as headscarfs for people who really want to look like a DayZ Mod bandit. What do you folks think?
-
Lulz. Tell there is a vid, I'm guessing troll or rubberband. Haven't seen a hacker since I've started and I have around 100 hours on populated servers.
-
Lol, 1995 problems.

The devs have said many times that they're done exactly zero work on the sounds in game. The noise from eating will be rebalanced many times before the game is released. However, I think audio cues are an important gameplay component and I don't think there should be an option to do much of anything without making some sort of noise.

Why do I keep spawning in the same place?
hefeweizen replied to Baby Jesus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Oh woah is you, the burdens you bare without so much as a complaint. How ever can you defend yourself from the tyranny of the new spawns.... -
Negative. DayZ cares not for your want/need to play hobo dress-up parade, DayZ wants you to die, as realistically as possible. DayZ wants you to lose your gear in many different ways, at any moment without you even making a mistake of any sort. DayZ is not your friend.

Why do I keep spawning in the same place?
hefeweizen replied to Baby Jesus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ignore trolls, the new spawn system is terrible. It is terribly repetitive, it corrals all the new spawns into one little corridor for bandits to hunt and pretty much makes all the cities on the East Coast into lootless/zombiesless wastelands filled with nothing but corpses, pants, flashlights and bandits. I say spawn everywhere, less easy kills for bandits, more interesting spawns for nubs, more of a sense of being "lost" that is so important in DayZ. I don't really see the downside. -
Lost me at Epoch. Terrible, just terrible. I tried to play the mod a week ago, took 10 minutes to load a server and I was disappointed in absolutely every part afterward. It was good when you had no other options, but all the mods of the mod were pretty damn horrible. Not to mention the only servers you can find now are "1000+ Vehicles, Tons of Barracks! Self Blood-bag! DMR Load-out".

So why do people refuse being held up?
hefeweizen replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Most people figure they're dead either way, might as well so out swinging. Right?- 155 replies

Lol. The OP misses buying physical copies of games, probably CRT monitors and Dial up modems as well, I'd guess. Who are these people who don't like Steam, libertarians? Old people that don't like change? Psychopaths living out in the middle of nowhere with terrible internet connections? Uhhh.... Physical media collectors? I honestly don't know, its likely some BS rap about DRM. Which would be pretty stupid...

3 of us died from a hacker last night
hefeweizen replied to DirtyscumbagLith's topic in General Discussion
Actually, he is right. Battleeye works on a game like this where most things are handled on the server's side of the equation. The mod was decidedly different, with most things being processed client side and therefore much much easier to hack. Its a pretty big change, and a good part of the reason we have to wait so long for the SA Alpha. -
Yes, this so many times. People either don't understand this, or love easy mode snails pace deathmatch.
