    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

Put me down for "I hope never". The sniping aspect of this game is such a big pain in the ass and makes for super boring game play. I hope in the full release sniper rifles are epicly rare and sniper goodies are equally as scarce. **Awesome voiceover** PREVIOUSLY ON THE WALKING DEAD: cut to Rick sitting in a bush for a couple hours sniping at people he never interacts with. I guess it would still be better than season two.
  2. I think the PvE and lone wolf crowd would be just as happy on private servers. I don't see why there should even be an option to play solo on a server that is connected to the public hive. That is just free gear with no risk, and if free gear with no risk is an option then that is what the majority of the DayZ player base is going to do. A lot of people who play DayZ like to throw on their 'Merican hat and shout "Freedumb!!!!" when you talk about limiting the way they can play. The thing is, sometimes those "Freedumbs" need to be sacrificed on the alter of game play, otherwise you end up with crap like server hopping, glitching into walls, gamma exploiting, vacation looting on empty servers and jamming your head into walls in order to see through buildings. Sorry everyone, but people who play DayZ will exploit any possible advantage to win. I think some people need to come to terms with this. That is just the nature of the beast, as such those possible advantages need to be limited severely. Otherwise DayZ just becomes more about how well you meta-game and not how well you can survive. Please explain why you think a lobby system would be stupid.
  3. Gearing up in an hour or two. But what you're talking about is making it effectively impossible to find a gun on an empty server which I suppose I could get on board with. My feeling is that the devs wouldn't be willing to make that the case. But I hope I'm wrong.
  4. Of course, that is why I sighted CS:GO and TF2 as examples. Along with groups, I could see an acceptable ping options, Hardcore/Reg selection and probably preferred time cycle (Accelerated vs. Real time).
  5. I don't see that. If you allow players a probable chance of finding a weapon on an empty server, then that is exactly what they are gonna do. The DayZ player base will meta-game however much they need to in order to gain the upper hand on their fellow survivors, that much is pretty clear.
  6. If players can still gear up at all on empty servers, and then use said gear against other players on full servers then I feel that public hives will fail just like the mod. Unless the devs are willing to make it literally impossible to find a gun on a server with <10 people, then I don't really see number one working out. If they are willing to make the game function in such a way, then I have misjudged them and defer to their good judgement.
  7. Wait.... What? I have no idea what you're on about. How does a lobby system, or offical servers run by BI = Clanwars? Also, this game does not = TDM/DM. So you're mistaken on that front.

    Why not three hour dayz?

Currently, night cleans out servers. its just a fact of Dayz. I honestly think the only way to get people to play at night is to make switching to a daytime server not an option. To do that all public servers would have to be on the same Day/Night cycle. But how do you do that without casting certain parts of the world in eternal darkness? Well, first of all you're going to have to give up on 24h days. I know some realism hounds are flipping their beans right now, so bare with me. Changing 24hr days doesn't necessarily mean shorter days. We could make the days 25h if it was the best choice. The point is in order to make having all the servers on the same time cycle fair, the time in game in relation to the time in real life needs to change on a fairly regular basis. I think that is a fair place to start. Now personally, I think much faster days are the right way to go. First, it would offer more variety in game play. Playing at night all the time can be terrible, but I think more players would stay on the same server through the night time if they knew it wouldn't be that way for 6+ hours. Second, honestly I think it fits better with the whole "starving to death in a couple hours" thing. It makes absolutely no sense that your survivor can starve to death over the course of a few hours, however if those hours were meant take the place of a day or so, maybe a more believable balance could be struck where your survivor starving to death so quickly would make a bit more sense. So, lastly over discussions with a couple of friends about how long a usual DayZ session last we arrived at a little more than 3 hours. Roughly two hours dawn to dusk, with about one hour and fifteen minutes of night. This would allow players to experience the full range of the day/night cycle in what can be considered a "normal" play session. It would accomplish the goal of changing the time in game in comparison to the time in real life on a regular basis and it would make starving to death quickly more believable, if still slightly too fast. I'm guessing a lot of people would absolutely hate this idea, but other will like it. I'd love to hear why. TL;DR Nobody plays on server thats are dark because nights are too long, and they can always find a day time server. We should make days much shorter, and put all the servers on the same cycle. P.S. All this would also hinge on Rocket and Co. making the night time experience better overall. Making flashlights more ambient, Fixing light going through walls, locking down the gamma cheaters, adding more light sources. But I can't see that NOT happenings, its just a matter of when.

    Mouse acceleration = NO!

Yeah, 1:1 mouse! I wanna 720 tomahawk drop shot no scope people off the fire station.
  10. Yeah, Public Hive is sort of terrible. Unless they do something like make better loot spawn on high pop servers there is no incentive to gear up on servers that have any population. As it is now, if you're not gearing up on a server with 2 or 3 people and only jumping to a full server when you've got a full kit then you're severely handicapping yourself combat wise. With private hives, all the gear you have must be found on the server it is to be used on. It really is a no brainer which system makes for better gameplay.

why isn't the zombie fix rocket's priority?

Its a bizarre assumptions rodeo everyone! Lets all join in! I think Rocket is secretly on the take from companies that make hiking gear, that is why there aren't vehicles in the game yet.

This logout system seriously needs to be deleted

Gotta kill 'em faster then. I personally think a minute of sitting, plus some sort of audio cue that would notify anyone who is within earshot (I dunno, moaning and pain sounds for now. Maybe the sounds of setting up a camp in the future.) would be best and would eliminate combat logging by people you have pinned down near by, yet don't have visual on. This wouldn't help snipers of course, but who really cares if snipers lose a few kills?
  13. hefeweizen

Mosin useless if you try to learn long range sniping.

Thought if you held down the button you wouldn't reload right away. Or was that just a suggestion?
  14. What does everyone think about having a possibility of finding zed spawned inside buildings and on rooftops? I personally would love it, and think it would add some much needed PvE content to the game, requiring survivors to dispatch some zed before they can loot a building or camp their favorite rooftop. I think gangly malnourished (yet still alive in order to be consistent with DayZ lore) "lurker" type zombies would be a good fit for these situations, especially if they could spawn in corners/behind furniture/in closets/laying on the floor and could quickly spring out at survivors who get too close. In order to clarify, let me say I don't think zombies should be turning doorknobs or climbing ladders. Roof zombies should be humans who died on roofs and inside zombies should be humans who died inside. Smart zombies would be stupid. Thoughts? Questions? Personal insults?
  15. hefeweizen

    Zombies in buildings/on rooftops

Well... Yeah, I would assume the zed on roofs would only be on rooftops that you can access as a survivor already.
  16. Beards. You must be able to grow a majestic beard if you survive long enough to grow it. Beards shall be the reward you seek, my son.

    why good samiritans irritate me

Ever hear Gandhi talk about black people or sex? There really isn't that much to choose from...

    why good samiritans irritate me

Uhhh... I think you're reading into things too much. "Going to the coast to help bambi's" pretty much means, "I want an excuse to kill geared up people, so I need to find some bandit chum." Also, who made you lord and master of approved playstyles? Sounds like you're just pissed that people are getting in the way of your bambi hunts.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

How doesn't it mean exactly that?

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

Coooool. 1:1 mouse ratio. So that means I'll be getting 180 quick scoped by the snipers I sneak up on.... Great suggestion, I always wanted to play Call of DayZ.
  21. Wow, seriously do you think the problems people have with the spawn system are all about spawn killing? Quit being so dense and actually read some posts before you start being an ass to other posters. Starting the same four places every spawn like this game is some poor quality single player RPG is stupid, it is boring as hell to make the same runs every single time you start a new life. Almost as completely brain dead as the YOLOSWAG420 bros who do nothing but post "Lol, git gud n u don't have 2 spawn1!1." With idiotic responses like these, I can see how every server on the DayZ mod ended up "1000+ Vehicles, DMR loadout, Self Bloodbag, CoD Style Bro!".
  22. Reasonable and agreed. The spawn system is going to need a lot of work, you shouldn't know exactly where you are when you spawn every time. It took away from the experience when playing the mod after a while, and it is even worse at this stage of the alpha. Personally I'd prefer if we could spawn almost anywhere on the map, maybe the devs could set up a system where you spawn at least ten minutes away from a military loot hot spot but this map is huge, the fact that we currently only spawn in one little section of it is kind of ridiculous. To the OP, a lot of people on the forums lose their s**t if anyone disagrees with a design choice the devs have made, they'll either go insane trying to convince you why a terrible system is secretly the best one and continue worshiping the devs as gods or they'll scream "ALPHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" at the top of their lung until they pass out. I think this thread is one of those cases.
  23. Well, I agree. I think they put military loot in too many place on the map, then forced everyone to spawn in the 1 - 3 places that DON'T have military loot. There are not enough spawns, end of story. Find more places to spawn us, I don't care if they have military loot or not, just let me spawn somewhere aside from the stupid East coast.
