Bunch of pansies. The zombies aren't too hard. You're just not adapting to the fact that the game has changed a bit (not even that much). OH NO I AGGROD A ZOMBIE IN THIS ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GAME. PATCH! PATCH! ROLLBACK! SAVE ME! Though zombies aggroing you from 20-30 km away sounds like a bug. Especially since the map is what, 15km across? So the furthest you could possibly be from a zombie (and still be on the map) is 21km.

Holy shit! Everyone has gone insane

I'm not insane. Leave me out of this. -
Bravo, fantastic work! I've long waited for a new makarov magazine model. I hate checking every pile of satchels hoping that it might be some neat tool, only to find out that it's a makarov mag or a smoke grenade. (Oh that reminds me, make a smoke grenade model too if you get a chance! :D)

After 13 days on a character, mapping out every damn deerstand on the map (at least, most?), and spending an absolutely insane number of hours jogging between all those stands, I have not found a single gun better than an m1014, or AKM/AK74-Kobra. I actually spent a very long time rolling with a CZ 550 I found in a damn barn. I figured EVENTUALLY, after 300 or 400 stands I'd find something neat, but I never did. Fuck those things. Someone post a cool story bro pic below this or else I'll feel like I failed with this thread.

I'm never going to another deerstand again.

The game is officially trolling me now. I found a corpse with an M249 on it, and thought 'neat I'll take that', since all I had was an AKM with no ammo. I had previously never seen a machinegun in dayz before. So I pick it up, which makes me drop my AKM and my backpack both. I think 'oh that's not cool' and drop the SAW to pick up my backpack and AKM again, because I'd rather have a backpack than a machinegun. But the backpack and AKM had disappeared. When I dropped the SAW, it disappeared too, so I was running around NWAF with no backpack, and no gun. I found an M1014 laying in a hangar with one pile of shells next to it, and pick it up thinking '8 shots with an M1014 is better than nothing', turns out the pile of shells was for a winchester. Hateful game. -

Seriously what game are you guys playing? Cuz I don't think it's the same one as me. Everyone on the forums and in servers (that still have global enabled...) talk on and on about their DMRs, their Mk48s, their M24s, their M107s, all the amazing things they've looted. I've never seen ANY of those things on a loot pile. I saw a DMR once. I shot the guy carrying it. He force quit before I could finish him off. This is after a good 20 days of playing. Am I really just the most unlucky player ever? -

I must be a terrible person. Around the 300th deerstand I found that was empty (or had some crap weapon) I took the CZ and proceeded to murder 16 people (AND ONE BANDIT) in cherno. I'm definitely a bad person now. Thankfully I just died a few minutes ago, and now can take my freshly minted new character on suicide runs of airfields and firestations. The game can be fun again. @Latros: I'm very familiar with that document. But statistics and me apparently don't get along. I've also never found a gun in a barracks, despite 15-20 combs through both at the NWAF. I've been shot though. Twice. -
It's fantastic for killing zombies. It's comically bad for trying to kill other players. I eventually got rid of mine just because I felt so vulnerable, you have no way of fighting back if any other survivor/bandit decides to start a gunfight. The M9SD works just as well for stealth zombie murder, while allowing you to carry a long gun that is actually threatening.

I V-stepped into a stairway's geometry last week and broke my leg. Weirdly enough I had no morphine (I always carry two, I honestly have no idea why, at that moment, there were none in my bag). I was in Bor, which is near three deer stands. So I crawled between the stands, killing all of the military zombies each time, for two days. No morphine. Finally, annoyed, I crawled the 4km or so to Cherno, to the hospital on the NW edge of town. I managed to kill someone outside the hospital with my MP5SD, then loot a box at the base of the ladder and get my morphine fix. All in all I probably spent 4 hours of in-game time crawling around with a broken leg. Maybe more. That character is still alive to this day. :D

The issue for me that has driven me to just deathmatching on my character is that the alternative is entirely too shaky. I would LOVE to create some bastion of civilization, be it a tent city, a trading post, a vehicle depot, anything. But this just isn't possible. It is very, very difficult to create something along these lines, and it is extremely easy to destroy. The game just doesn't support the natural end-game of this zombie situation: trying to recreate civilization. A tent city will simply be looted within hours of your group logging off. It's unrealistic to expect a round-the-clock guard on a server limited to 50 people (shoot, it'd be unrealistic on a server with 1000 people). And since scoped weapons are so utterly common, a single sniper can (and will) easily wreak havoc with any attempt at gathering peaceful players together. Sure the aggressor might die, but who cares? They'll just respawn. But your vehicle depot, trading post, or the huge stash of loot in your tent city... none of those things will respawn.

The biggest issue I've had logging out in a building was when I did it on the top platform of the green mountain radio tower. When I logged back in, the tower was invisible. That's right, I was floating 80 feet off the ground, with very little movement (the hallway is narrow!) and no idea where the ladder down was. Took me 5 minutes of bumping around against invisible walls to find the ladder down icon. It's a miracle I didn't die.

It took me about 9 days on my current character to start hunting players for sport. I did nothing but lone-wolf for the first week, then got so bored that I just stopped playing altogether for a couple days (100+ deerstands, 5 full checks of NWAF, and 3 checks of NEAF without finding a single weapon better than an AKM is depressing, and extremely boring). I tried logging in again a couple days later, and found a CZ550 in a barn (first scoped weapon I'd ever found, on a damn 10 day character with 3 GPS units). Took the CZ to cherno, and have murdered 12 players and one bandit in the past couple days of playing.

Most likely places to find matches?
everyone replied to Cyan-Eyed's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only barrels I know of are in cherno. There might be some in elektro as well. As for finding matches, look for any residential building with a high number of loot spots. Your best bet is going to be: Churches Supermarkets Barns Apartment buildings (in cherno) Restaurants (there are three or four of those in downtown cherno) The restaurants and apartment buildings are dangerous (since they're right in town) but they have a huge number of loot spots. I've found multiple matchbooks in those in the past. Restaurants in particular seem pretty nice, I get the feeling that not a lot of people know about them, so they aren't picked over as often as other spots. -
Talking in sidechat on servers where it is disabled??
everyone posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So I was just sniping folks in cherno, watching half of them prone out of sight after being hit, then DCing before death, when someone said something in sidechat. Specifically, they called out my location and that I was sniping at people. Then someone responded. Also in sidechat. But... sidechat was disabled. I had been on this server for nearly an hour and had checked immediately when I logged in that yes, like all other 1.7 servers I've seen so far, global chat was disabled. I toggled through again, and yes they were still disabled. I tried talking in groupchat, but nobody responded. I definitely could not see/join/speak in side chat, and yet there were three people there just holding a normal conversation. I just searched through the bug forum and didn't find anything on this. Were they cheating? After listening for 30 seconds to their conversation (which was mainly about me, and my sniping position) I decided to leave the server... if they were cheating I wanted no part in it, or to risk my character to some stupid death-by-cheater. Anyone else had this experience? I felt like I was at a pretty huge disadvantage, though at least I could see what they were saying. -
Talking in sidechat on servers where it is disabled??

Seriously? Damn, I'm regretting ever installing it then, if those people are allowed on the same server as diligent updaters. Besides, I miss global chat... just not being the odd man without it. -

I wish zombies were more deadly, and survival more difficult.
everyone posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll put the TL;DR part at the top here. If you want more justification, you can read the stuff I wrote below the a) b) c). TL;DR: I think it'd be a lot more fun if: a) zombies were way deadlier (as it is, I can sprint through a town and aggro 30+ zombies without a care, as I just lead them to the closest barn/factory/whatever and take them all out without taking a single ounce of damage). b) zombies were more common: I wish that building a fire and cooking meat in the wilderness would take longer, and the fire would attract a horde of zombies. I wish that there were roaming armies of zombies in the middle of nowhere, ready to pounce on the sound of gunfire from a mile away. and c) supplies (especially medical supplies, food, and ammo) were way more scarce. A winchester should feel like a godsend, but when I find one I think 'ok this will work for the next 10 minutes until I find an assault rifle'. If your ADHD hasn't kicked in yet, here's some thoughts on why: As it is right now, zombies aren't a threat at all. At the absolute worst, you have to go prone in order to sneak by a few. This is only bad because your chances of dying to another player go up dramatically when you're crawling around in the party submission position. Getting aggro on a few zombies is even less of an issue... you just sprint your way to the closest barn, and take them out in a line. With a pistol and 5+ clips of ammo you can take down 20-100 zombies without breaking a sweat. Again, the only risk there is alerting another homicidal survivor to your position. Zombies are only a threat to very new characters. By the end of my first day playing, zombies had become such a minor part of the game as to be almost non-existant. They are minor roadblocks to a bean-gathering mission, or a serious irritation when they aggro you through an ATC tower wall (only because they'll give away your position to the ubiquitous airfield bandits). Now, I love the fact that Dayz's tension arrives from the fact that at any moment someone might start unloading an AK or M4 in your direction. But I think that as it stands, too much of the tension comes from pvp, and too little from zombies. I'd like to see the scales balance out a little bit. Severely ramping up the difficulty of plain survival would not only make the game way more interesting, but it would probably put a slight curb on the deathmatching threads that have taken over these forums. If you were in cherno and knew that pulling your gun's trigger would bring a horde down on your head that you probably wouldn't survive, it might make you pause for a second. Even moreso, if zombies were actually a threat when in the wilderness, wouldn't it do the same? Lets face it, an absolutely minimal (damn near zero) percentage of players at the NWAF die to zombies. I think it'd be more fun if the pvp there was also tempered with some serious zombie aggro. Sure, camp out those barracks and snipe anyone who comes by, but you'd better use a silenced weapon because an absolute TIDAL WAVE of military zombies are going to close in on you the second you make a noise! :D I believe that the ease of survival has led to a kind of complacency in a lot of veteran (as veteran as you can be in an alpha...) players. I learned pretty quickly that as a lonewolf I can survive with no problem at all just by collecting basic gear (just deathmatch style run through cherno, and gather tools, if you die just try again) then hoofing it to the forests and living off of deer stands and the occasional well run. After 9 days of played time on my current guy, there is nothing in the game that can threaten me other than the (very low) chance encounter with a homicidal bandit/survivor in the wilderness. Frankly, I'm a bit bored. -

I'm doing the same. Up until three days ago I hadn't seen a single non-pitched tent on my 9 day character. I finally found one and decided to start hoarding some things. After spending an hour just trying to place the stupid thing, I ended up putting it in some out of the way (off the map) but not entirely hidden spot. Stashed a spare GPS, ghillie suit, ammo, mountain dew, and a few other tools in there. When I came back the next morning, everything but the ammo was gone. Someone must have found the tent due to it's poor placement, which is due to tent's buggy (awful) placement restriction. So without the ability to stash some things away, there's really nothing to do on my character right now except snipe noobs or deathmatch. I'm bored.

1st International DayZ DewRace 2012 - Stupid but Fun Idea
everyone replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, a fun idea. But there is absolutely no chance of this ever working with the game as it is in it's current state. It would just instantly devolve into a deathmatch before the race had even started. Anyone stupid enough to move to the designated startline would be murdered. -
