I copied the .exe file from the Beta folder to the main folder, replacing the game's main .exe, then launched through Steam. Worked for me. More detailed instructions can be found on these forums with a bit of searching. -

Oh, and if it makes you feel better, I once died in DayZ with awesome gear, and then restarted and played for a few minutes. When I reconnected to play the next day, my character was back in my previous spawn location, with all my good gear still in my inventory. So errors can work both ways! Don't you feel better now?!? -
85C might be pushing it a little. You can try dialling back your GPU speeds a little, or get a little more airflow through your case.

With enough tuning, you could get it to run decently.

It's the Alpha version of a mod. Shit happens. It's kinda fun to start all over again from time to time though, so look at it as an opportunity! -

Bumping this thread. A lot of people post on here with performance issues, and I'm hoping this thread can help. Keep posting your tips here if you don't see them listed already...I just added defragging your hard drive to the list. It helped me. -

You could always hit ESC and click "Respawn"...I think this kills your character and starts over...but you should be back in the game. You'll lose all your gear though.

You say that running through Steam works fine...so why don't you just run it through Steam?

If you're running the game through Steam, you add it in the Launch properties command line (where the -mod=@dayz tag goes)...if you're running it through a regular shortcut, you add it in the "target" line I believe. -

Maybe a broken bone changes to a "sprain" after 10 minutes, and then heals as sprains currently do in-game?
