What's the first thing you'd do in DayZ Standalone?
Capo replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
rob someone, handcuff them, and then execute them mob style. so, if you think about it, the first thing i'm going to do is destroy some dreams. the idea that KOS is gone, first and foremost. -

Responsibility and shame: A intellectual observation of the hill camper
Capo replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
as has been said in every motherfuckin' whinge thread related to KoS: if you're sick of getting shot, stop going to electro and cherno. cherno/electro wouldn't even be fun without the possibility of snipers, and with the introduction of spawn choice i've found players are spreading out more, especially if you're not playing on a "PVP" server. go for one of the inland supermarkets, hitting farms and big residential buildings along the way, I know OP knows this, so it's either stubbornness or stupidity that leads him to continually end up getting shot from a electro/cherno camper. OP, it's your responsibility to make sure you don't get shot, and your shame when you die like a noob and bitch about it here. secondly, why would strangers you run into hesitate to shoot you? it's fun, you might have some gear they need and you're likely to open fire from their point of view, so why not get the first shot in? Don't be so naive and then claim intellectual ability, when it's quite clear your thought process is either clouded by a false honor system that you've taken from someone's youtube video, or non-existent. -
i like the cz550 better because of the feel of it. I've gotten used to using the sidestrips to estimate range and can now do so more effectively than with a mildot scope. it's not quite as useful in the wild due to only being able to estimate range accurately if the target is facing(or facing away from) the sniper. This isn't an issue around towns as you can find a zombie and range off of them. It seems that 1.8 has increased availability of ammo so ammo isnt a massive issue. that being said m24/mildot is easier to learn on the fly (I had to use armory to get a feel for the CZ), and more useful in general, as it estimates off of height, and finding a dmr mag is like finding 4 mags in 1. I wouldn't use either rifle if you're sighting the target at 700 meters+ unless you're a great sniper. The damage drop off, coupled with likely inaccuracy makes it too frequent that the target will escape, and/or come back at you. m40 is more useful than both when coupled with a ghillie suit. Although I prefer the CZ 550 for its authentic feel, and generally not having to watch my back constantly when I'm looting ammo.

How do you enter town safely as a lone wolf?
Capo replied to Donair's topic in New Player Discussion
electro and cherno are never safe. the best way to enter towns safely is to look get a good lookout of the town before you enter, check for zombies and/or snipers/players and then decide what building you want to take down, find the quickest way to that building and then get out of the town. of course rules are made to be broken, and if you haven't had to shoot many zombies don't be afraid to check other buildings, but if you've made alot of noise it's just better to move on quickly. you will survive longer/ get the drop on more players if you keep moving. -
Facts of patch 1.8 - loot is nonsense
Capo replied to timedance's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i found the complaining in 1.7.7.1 was because nothing was spawning, not because loot was particularly rare, but because the game bugged so every second town neither zombies nor loot spawned. when the loot actually spawned it was much easier than it is now in terms of most things, it's way better now, just food needs to be turned down is all. i think in regards to military spawns, in a barracks or what have you, there are too many weapons. as far as military spawn locations are concerned they're fine when the server owner doesn't fuck with them and add 2 barracks and a firestation into every town. -
im happy to wait for the alpha and even maybe the beta, releasing the alpha before it's ready would result in a shitty game with a shitty reception from shitty players who don't understand how an alpha works. looking forward to handcuffing and mob style executing people, and killing people for their boots.

Facts of patch 1.8 - loot is nonsense
Capo replied to timedance's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i agree with too much food, zombie apocalypse and going to the supermarket is almost exactly the same as before. also I think military gear is a bit too much, civilian/farm etc is pretty good as far as guns go, i've been playing for days and still haven't found an m1911 or a makarov. zombies are fine, but they should lower damage slightly and make bleed occur more often. -
you seem to be aware of the "straya" server i was going to suggest lol. when it's updated to latest patch though check out the dayz bonfire servers, chernarus 1 is survival based and once it gets updated hopefully will be way more full.
-
it seems we enjoy this game for different reasons, but as you said everyone's entitled to an opinion, so go in peace.
-
i wont be playing for a couple of dayz, but will do once i get around to it
-
i can't provide a group but i'll join if you want. (australian player aswell)
-
yeah i'm up for that. What kind of servers do you play on?

"Removed some non SD mags from SD weapons"
Capo replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
agreed, but are any other SD weapons different? an exception should be made to the makarov SD though as sd mags are hard to find, and only carry 8 shots. the maksd's only advantage before was availability of ammo, now low ammo availability coupled with low mag size makes the maksd useless in comparison to any other weapon. it would be nice if people stayed on topic, 2 pages of thread and most of it is internet pseudo-intellectual dick measuring. -
With this new Choose Spawn feature, Dayz Turned into CoD
Capo replied to TheWizard14's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
this would be great if it was implemented. however, OP's on crack though if he thinks choosing spawns made cherno/electro a deathmatch. It sounds almost exactly the same as before with a quicker turnover. DO NOT GO TO THE SOUTHERN CITIES, it's as obvious as that, and has been for a while. Not liking choosing your spawn is fine, but the fact is players were spawning and running straight for those cities anyway. Random spawn didn't help when the fact is that 3/4 of the spawnpoints were located right near cherno/electro, so players dicking around in those areas weren't too handicapped anyway. choosing spawns seems to have spread the playerbase way better than they were before, berenzino is an actual dangerous place now, and i've found way more players trying to survive outside of the cities than previously. tl:dr spawn choice is a flawed but good idea, it need's some fine tuning and then it might actually encourage players to not just go to cherno/electro. -
why are people complaining about the zombies? i too preferred when they caused a bleed every 2nd hit, but upping their damage is fine aswell. I liked the bleed better, as it made bandages a real necessity, so a compromise between the two should be implemented, as it is i can get hit 6 times and not bleed, but be down to 6000 health (give or take 4000). why on earth would you have a survival game set in a zombie apocalypse and then make the zombies *just* a nuisance? The zombies should be a clear threat, so that going into towns is actually a risk. also killing zombies should be more of a necessity than it was, i could run through berenzino aggroing the whole way and not have to kill any zeds, which is surely a sign that zombies are off. yes player interaction is more important than the zombies, but KoS is not player interaction, it's deathmatch. Having zeds that require killing would encourage a different playstyle than derping through cities not giving a shit how many zeds are chasing you because you're hunting freshspawns. on the subject of choosing spawns, I didn't like the idea at first, but it seems to work out that the north is actually a bit more dangerous, as alot of people choose to spawn in berenzino. Which is good, all in all the south coast was far too populated and the north was way too sparse, berenzino was almost constantly empty which made gearing up far too easy, now i have to go inland straight away if i don't want a bullet between the eyes. also please lower loot spawns, i dunno about some guns as i still havent seen a m1911 or a makarov in about a week, but food and military gear is a bit plentiful.
-
this on both points, the food is spawning a bit too much, but i didn't see anything in the changelog so im assuming this is an unintended side effect. Loving the loot being restricted to 1 of any item, way better. the UI, i'm not really a fan and i don't understand why it was changed. organizing gear is nicer, but again it followed the art style of the UI and eh on that front
-
good patch, i was reserved about the new gear system, and choosing spawns but overall i think it turns out nicely. a few things - food and drink is spawning a hell of a lot (blunting the effect of bugged hunting so its not all bad) alot of the zeds are really laggy/weird - not swinging at me, running around or just ignoring me also have makarov SD mags been increased in spawnrate? i ask only because taking regular makarov rounds was what made the maksd on par with the m9sd (in my opinion). The ability for it to use regular makarov rounds saved it from being crippled by small and very rare mags.

SA looks like it's being designed as a survival game, arma 3 zombies looks like the mod ported to arma 3. I'm looking forward to SA, simply because the devs seem to be taking it in the survival direction i agree with. arma 3 dayz just sounds like the same KoS deathmatch that arma 2 dayz is now.

Does anyone even remember what DayZ is?
Capo replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
fairly sure everyone has a life outside of dayz. there's a reason you'd be spending ages to find good gear on a vanilla server, you say you want to enjoy all the experiences the game has to offer, but you're missing the fact that the best experience the game has to offer is extreme tension. spawning with a dmr and an m9 sd is a great way to devalue the entire system, where's the stress of maybe having to start all over again when starting all over again means you have more ammo than when you died? there is maybe one vanilla chernarus server i can find in AUS that's running and occasionally well populated, and it's about to be replaced with epoch, because it got drowned out by 80 player 200+ vehicles and extra weapon PvP servers. (also because a bug with 1.7.7.1 and private hives causing gear to just not spawn) the casual servers are fun every so often, but i didn't get Combined Ops only to play the casual servers, there's no meat on those bones after about an hour. I hope SA is completely unmoddable, just because people seem determined to turn everything into a variation of CoD, and if i wanted CoD, i'd have fucking bought it. TL;DR Nothing good came out of allowing people to set spawn loadouts or adding extra cars/buildings to a server, it just diluted good gameplay into a cod/gta variant.
