That is true, but they also have no other option, because public hives are empty. Stop being misleading, you're not wrong, but you're definitely not right. Meanwhile they're trying to work on fixing the ghosting, logging and hopping, which if achieved renders private hives pointless, at least in the regard you're advertising.
-
scripts or not, they were an invariable feature of private hives, and complete shit. The few times Dean has talked about base building, he's implied that bases will be underground. So at this point in time it seems unlikely that a player will server hop into a base. Epoch style bases were an interesting and original concept but have no place in the SA, at least in their current form. They upset the dynamic of Chernarus too much and we ended up with monstrosities poking into the sky and the server charging for building space because they take up memory. So it's a bit early to be using bases as an argument. I don't see why you couldn't just play on one public hive server, a lot of people use the one anyway, and once radios work communities will start to form around those servers. Unless global chat and death messages are turned on, a private hive would play exactly the same as a public, except with easymode scripts.
-
You named a solution that does not exist. Every private hive server I've ever seen is some variation of extra vehicles and starter kits, because as I said before, that's how they keep the donations coming in. So fuck off with that, I know it seems like an easily fixed problem, but it's not actually gonna happen, because survival private hives don't exist, while the casual ones sponge up all the players, which starves the public servers, and noone wants to play on an empty server. Mods for the dayz mod were pretty good, but they had their own issues, if by mods you mean Epoch or Breaking point, but if you mean auto refuel, extra buildings, self bloodbag to full health, etc then you're entirely wrong. Those mods were there to circumvent aspects of the vanilla mod that got in the way of people getting full milgear in the first half hour, and only added to the deathmatch mentality we're currently trying to overcome at the moment. Do you want private hives to solve hopping, combat logging and ghosting? or do you want them for the 1000 vehicles and start kits? It's ok if you do, but then you should say so, rather than claiming they fix all the problems, yet ignoring all the problems they introduce. What if the public hives solved hopping, logging and ghosting? would you still want private hives?
-
Sure they do entirely solve those issues. But then bring a whole load of new ones, such as shitty admins, and stupid mods which make the game more casual. If the devs set up their own private hives that would be amazing, but while private hive administration is in the hands of players it nearly always comes down to 1000 vehicles and donor loadouts. Because private hives need those things to survive. so no, private hives the way the mod had them was complete shit. People don't donate without incentives, and so admins have to offer them. This is the reply I received when I asked for a more vanilla private hive on the news that the server I was playing on was getting replaced: "Well you got to think about it, this is a private hive for a reason, which is because of the extra building, clan bases, kits, and all that other good stuff that vanilla servers don't provide, there is or was nothing vanilla about #1 at all, even when #1 was popular. If you really want a vanilla Epoch server or in your case Vanilla DayZ, go play the public hive DayZ server, 100% Vanilla." This statement was made at a time when you were lucky if there was one aussie public hive server up with 20 people in it. So while I understand exactly why a lot of private hives are the way they are, it's still fucking shit.

I won't touch the camo milgear as I've seen too many guys wearing it, and it just looks like bog standard bandit gear + I just feel like a clone. I try to keep to muted civ clothing (green hoodie or raincoat, and brown hunter pants atm), always with a blue radar cap. Waiting for face bandanas to come out, although that will probably mark me as a target.

Ruger 10/22 sugestion .. custom parts in the game
Capo replied to kataro's topic in General Discussion
we'll see a few modifications, nothing like that ridiculous toy in the second picture. as far as cowboy hats go and their realism, if you consider them work hats rather than cowboy hats they make a lot of sense. Most of chernarus is a rural area, if you work in a field all day you wear a hat, it's that simple. -
Vehicles: Common bicycles / Capture able Trains
Capo replied to aiaiaiaiDayZPlayer's topic in Suggestions
bikes will be added, I'll be spewing if they're common. realistic or not, it'd just shit up the dynamics of the game. -
hair should grow as our character ages, so we can have beards and long flowing locks. although more likely we'll all just look like hobos after a long life.

I know someones already said inb4 alpha, but motherfucking alpha. Yes, I know a significant portion of the playerbase are fucktarded little kids who should be slapped. A lot. Then sent to bed. Without supper. But at the moment we don't have cars, we don't have hunting, we don't have storage, we don't have working zombies and most importantly we don't have a fully operational disease system. The last two items on that list will hopefully put players in a position where they're likely to NEED help. I dunno about you, but I'm not interested in talking to random patronizing strangers on the internet offering me stuff that I can get on my own. The game is just too easy at the moment, because it's an alpha, and because of that fact people aren't gonna want your help, because they don't need it. If you're having a shit time with people, just wait a bit, more stuff will come in and hopefully sort things out.

we have the PU scope, and i don't mind an extended mag because it's such an easy modification. new stocks and weaver rails/all that shit, no fucken thanks, it'd take knowledge in gunsmithing which most people don't have. i'd like to point all extended mags, aftermarket stocks etc are US made, meaning they wouldn't really be in a post soviet state.

Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species
Capo replied to DarkwaveDomina's topic in General Discussion
It's not a "can't find loot" thread, it's a "certain houses don't spawn loot anymore" thread. FUCK, so many retards. -
looks good, makes sense, i'm happy
-
can this thread be locked yet? nothing interesting is being said, and people are being petty wankers to each other. there will be no PvE only settings, also i would like to add that there will be no minimap, no killstreaks, no spawn with guns, no more than 100 vehicles on the map, no skateboards, no generic ammunition for assault rifles, no jetpacks, no hovercrafts, no board games added to the loot tables, no iphones, no illegal drugs, no psytrance, no adult nappies, no reality tv shows on dvd, and certainly no popping and/or locking. /motherfucking thread.

Ok, so you haven't had any negative outcomes as a result of the patch. What is the problem?

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer
Capo replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
lol you're a retard, I didn't accuse you of logging. -
So OP is saying the people who can be bothered to wait around for 5 minutes each time they server hop are getting good loot...So what? From the sounds of it, it's stopped a large amount of people server hopping, even if that wasn't the intended effect. As a side note the anti combat logging is being tested, you are testing it. I'm sure there will be additions, modifications, and fixes added in once they've gathered enough data on it's effectiveness. It's not the finished product. and then we have idiots like this complaining about staying on the server for an extra 30 seconds, and blowing it out of proportion. Stop logging out in shit positions, and get used to it.

Capo replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Fucking dumbest load of paranoid shite I've read on the subject. What are you complaining about? Choose a better spot to log out. Stop blowing the 30 second timer out of proportion, it's really not that bad. The only way another player can murder you is if they can find you, they can only find you if: 1. they're lucky 2. you chose a shit spot 3. they knew where you were in the first place the servers are a bit buggy, so getting disconnected sucks, but you paid for early access, so you got it. Stop your whinging, I haven't died once as a result of being on the server for an extra 30 seconds. -
the fuck do we need 60 slots for? the mountain backpack is as big as a house, and we get 35. 60 would need to be about double that size backpack....... mountain backpack should be increased 40-45 slots and is the biggest backpack in game. Then more camo backpacks should be introduced to take up the 35-40 range. either that or a military backpack the size of the mountain backpack. But mainly I don't think we need more than 40-45 slots. Alot of people are gonna need to stop carrying 300+ rounds of ammunition, if they wanna carry their food, tent, cooking gear etc, and that's the way it should be.
-
my point is, people always exaggerate how easy it is to die when complaining about the 30 seconds where your char is still in game. It's utter nonsense, although it would be nice if the servers were more stable.
-
hypocrite loot farmers, why do you whine about "hoppers"
Capo replied to mssing's topic in General Discussion
what the fuck is OP on about? you've shut down people looting your server? how do you know they're hoppers? WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? I'm sorry if English isn't your first language, but you aren't actually making any sense. Are you kicking people the moment they connect? Are you saying that you're one of those cunts that rent a server purely for themselves? Basically, are you admitting that you're violating the terms of agreement that you agreed to when you started renting a server, and that you think your server should be shut down? If you don't want people to play on your server, why are you renting one? -
I think you guys are overestimating the effects of tents.....they were them in the mod, they didn't affect KoS at all. Unless you were caught looting someone's camp, then you were in for some shit. You have to put the gear into the tent in the first place, meaning when you take gear out, it's not like it gets replenished. You still have to put a lot of time and effort into putting gear in your tent, so if you die, respawn, regear from tent, die immediately, repeat. You end up with no gear very quickly, and have wasted a lot of time. Other players can take items from your tent, or destroy it, meaning you will have to put your tent in the middle of nowhere in the hopes that it won't be found. When you die, you're going to have to run back to your tent, praying that the 20 minutes you spent running was worth it because someone else might have looted your tent. It's not a fun process, it's better to not die in the first place. You put backup gear and items in your tent, you carry your best gear with you, unless there are safes or something like that (they better fucking not), nothing you put in a tent is "safe". There's no guarantee that anything you put in a tent will still be there when you get back. if tents delete then they have a reduced impact in general, why bother setting up a tent with backup gear when you'll lose everything when you die anyway? Secondly, we haven't seen what kind of tents the devs have in mind, but if they have a mix of civilian flouro colored tents, with much rarer camo military tents, i'd be pretty happy, and your stuff is not going to be so easy to hide. Tent hunting was one of my favorite things to do in the mod, along with trying to set up a secluded camp that i could keep stocked with the gear i found. As long as tents aren't safe, and as long as running is a bitch, you aren't ever going to have a situation where people are going "well it doesn't matter, i can go back to my tent", and if you do have that situation, you're playing with some very stupid people.

gerber is a monstrously useful knife.
-
the farming/harvesting thing is a bit....eh for me. the hunting aspect looks pretty good, although for meat slices, why not handle it the way the game does already? ie percentages of a steak etc.
