I think I mentioned it before, and no doubt others have.. but caves would be great for this. It is for sure a place you would find some loots, people would hide there hoping to be safe from zombies. Tunnels, sewers, large culverts etc.. same thing.

Cellular Phones/Electricity in General
Cormyr replied to spartichris's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That would be interesting actually haha. Find two phones, text one the ph# of the other and leave it somewhere.. and wait to see who picks it up. You could also call from one phone to the other, leave one somewhere (put the hidden one on speaker hehe) and hide. Players get near the phone you hid and start talking into the one you still have.. would freak some people out lol. Could also distract zombies this way. -
i forgot! fishing (of course this must have come up before). maybe there are not actual fish in the water. but crafting a basic fishing pole seems like something that would for sure be done in a zombie apocalypse. maybe the best times to fish are realistic also, being dawn and dusk. so to be most successful at fishing, you would be putting yourself at risk given that zombies are more powerful when it gets dark. maybe fishing also requires you to dig for worms (while not actually making holes..) to use as bait. so anyways, this gives the player another thing to do while it is getting dark, or light out. plus the travel time while it is dark, to and from where the fishing takes place. maybe there would not be more zombies around fresh water, but there for sure would be more animals. I did not find a thread dedicated to fishing.. so put my thoughts on it here.

I think that would make it a different game. Maybe it was not controlled by a player (I do not recall them saying it was player controlled, if they did, my bad). Could have been a camera set to follow the rat to show the details of it and animation etc..
-
Animals like the amur tiger which was mentioned in another thread. Grey wolf packs. Badger. Owl. Skunk. Bats. Red fox. All would be great. But I would like to see some prey for the predators, so you don´t just see an owl in a tree and it just sits there. They should hunt rats or mice. And bats should inhabit caves during the day, or the attic of some farm house etc.. Badgers and skunks with their burrows. And if ya get too close to a skunk what happens? hehe Anyways, just more animals in the game period.. animals which make sense for that region and climate etc..
-
In the videos I have seen, I do not recall seeing any spider webs (I am sure it has been brought up before). Also, cockroaches! In a world like this, there would be tons of them with all the corpses and garbage everywhere.
-
No crazy bosses, does not fit. Amur tiger! hell yeah. Like the zoo idea, as long as the exotic animals found there could actually survive in that climate.

Vehicle ownership/stealing system without actual keys
Cormyr replied to h3l1x's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, the global inventory thing. I honestly do not like it. IMO inventory should be server specific. I have checked out Infestation which does a global inventory thing. just leads to people hoarding weapons etc.. Also, a global inventory makes it easier to server hop IMO. Anyways.. tis another topic. In regards to actual keys. Yeah the easiest thing is to make the keys imaginary and just add their functionality. Either way, most of my idea could work well. Also, I did not realize you meant this for the mod. My bad. -
Vehicle ownership/stealing system without actual keys
Cormyr replied to h3l1x's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I hear ya dude. Was adding my own idea onto yours. In latest devblog, they showed actual keys for the handcuffs. Not too difficult to add another for vehicles. And I was suggesting just have it in the inventory and use them from there via options like getting in and out of cars now. But it would not be too difficult to have to put them in your hand to use them, like for handcuffs. Anyways.. -
I like it all, but not sure about the street lights. Unless they allow for players to repair power stations and restore power to parts of the map. If power is restored, then have the blinking lights for creepiness. Otherwise, there should not be any electricity in the power grid. Only from gas generators etc..

Vehicle ownership/stealing system without actual keys
Cormyr replied to h3l1x's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How about this simple combination of the two systems? Ya find a fresh vehicle spawn. Doors are unlocked (always? not sure on that.. maybe sometimes a newly spawned vehicle has locked doors and boot). When you get in, there is a good chance that keys will be added to your inventory (should be a special slot, or slots, for keys.). While in the car, there is an option to start or turn off the engine, and to lock or unlock the doors. While outside the car, there is the options to lock or unlock the doors, and to lock or unlock the boot (storage). By having the option to lock or unlock while in the vehicle, you can control if someone can get in. So only the key holder can be the driver (owner). To change drivers, the owner and passenger get out, keys are put into the passengers inventory and now he/she can drive (and is essentially the owner, so only give keys to someone you trust). So as I said, when you find a fresh vehicle spawn and get in, there is a chance that you will get keys. Sometimes you would not get keys and would need to use a toolbox to hotwire the vehicle. So for that vehicle, a toolbox would be needed at all times to start it. But you could not lock the doors or boot. And of course, if you have keys for a vehicle and it is parked somewhere. Someone can come along, bash the window in, unlock the door and if they have a toolbox, start the engine and drive (but with no keys, would never be able to lock the doors or boot). And yeah, with a crowbar, pry open the boot, which would no doubt make it so the boot of that vehicle could never be locked again. So if you manage to get your vehicle back, it would be somewhat messed up. I would disagree that vehicles would automatically go to the killer of the vehicle owner, tis not realistic. The killer should still have to break into the car and/or boot. Also, a friend should have to do the same. Anyways, this is what I think would be great and make it realistic. Yeah there would be some work, an image for the keys (which can only be seen in the inventory maybe, but would be great if they could be something to hold in your hand), maybe a minor animation for locking and unlocking the door / boot, a database entry for who holds what keys for which vehicle... etc.. edit - seems rossums beat me to it somewhat haha. not easy being a gamer when ya got a wife and toddler. been working on this post for a couple hours lol edit 2 - dang it, forgot one part. I would disagree that if you kill the owner of a vehicle, the vehicle automatically belongs to the killer. Keys would be necessary, or breaking the window and hotwiring it without the ability to lock it yourself etc.. -
Would be nice to have this. But yeah, pretty tricky system to put in place and have work with no bugs etc.. In regards to this, I think it is a wait and see kinda thing. What can be done, and what are they willing to do? Would also be cool if say you got shot in the backpack from the side.. bullet goes through your water bottle, or canteen, water soaks your backpack and ruins things like your matches etc.. or if the bullet happens to hit a frag grenade.. :D

Not sure about cheese making. Maybe you could find some in the world and have to scrape off the moldy part with a knife or something like that. Finding vinegar would be cool, a means to preserve veggies in a jar maybe. And salt to preserve meats.

Magazines, Ammunition, and Weapon Relevence
Cormyr replied to Manuel Pineiro's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good post and I would agree. Using ammo / magazines to balance the weapons is a great way to do it. Also balance them by making crazy powerful weapons more rare and/or difficult to get. From the looks of it, it has been done. Yay! Has there been any mention of a mosin-nagant being added? Also would like to see a SVT-40 (I think these has been brought up before, just adding my support for them). -
A A List Of Buildings That Would Be Fun To See In Chernarus
Cormyr replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To add my 2 cents. IMO new enterable buildings adds more space for new content (usable items etc.), and more options in regards to finding certain loots (more on that coming up), while also giving the player a break from running through the bush. Small doctor office or walk-in health clinic- Obviously these would have some medicines and pain killers etc.. maybe some office stuff. And as I mentioned, you could go to these instead of the hospital. National Park - Meaning a section of forest, maybe in a valley, which maybe is protected because of some species of animal which is only found there. There would be a dirt road running through it I would imagine, and at the start of that road, put an official wildlife ranger cabin. In there a chance to find some kind of rifle, maybe a pistol, and ammo. bear whistle (used to possibly keep bears and maybe other potentially lethal predators away, or as a distraction device for players and zombies?), maybe a tranquilizer gun with some darts, bear traps and no doubt some canned food, along with some kind of drink. A good find but dangerous because of the wildlife around that area, like bears... From the dirt road, there would be pathways into the forest which the ranger would have used to scout around to check on wildlife etc... Maybe some of these paths lead to simple wood and dirt bunkers, and small wooden tree forts which are camouflaged with materials from that forest, branches etc.. these small hideouts originally were for watching wildlife, but usable by players of course. I suppose a ranger pickup could be found there as well, with a gun rack in the back. :D Small veterinary office - minor office supplies, pain killers possibly, plus canned dog and cat food, eat it if you are desperate but plan to be sick and maybe puke half of it up lol. and a tranquilizer stick used for caged animals if necessary, but the player could have some serious fun with it I think. Dentist - Another place to find minor office stuffs, pain killers, and maybe tanks of laughing gas (nitrous oxide)? hehe Dentist office could be found in the mall, or just as a small office in town. Food bank - Place to find canned food stuffs other than supermarket or corner store (corner store should have a shotgun under the counter hehe). Thrift store - Place to find clothing, blankets and maybe something like a bat or hockey stick, these would also be in homes and stores... Anyways, sorry if these have come up before. If so, I have not seen it or found it as of yet. -
Snow biomes and Snowmobiles.(If im to late to add suggestions maybe it can be in an update)
Cormyr replied to HaloGuy212's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is why I ask, two new links I had not found yet. Thanks dude. -
Interesting idea, but I would have to be against it. Can you smell blood from a distance? A dog could smell it, animals with noses designed to pick up scent from a distance could do this.. but zombies are just reanimated humans. So IMO, zombies would only use their eyes and ears (if they had them that is...). With that said, maybe predatory animals could hunt you down if you are bleeding? Makes more sense to me.

So the Atka and Amlia islands eh? Great idea! Lots of room to do other maps with the other islands in the chain, if you were so inclined... This is why I hope there will be an editor for standalone (been talking about that in another thread..). Any chance of ya PMing me some links to resources you use to do this? I have been searching online for this stuff, but like to ask people who are actually doing it also. Thanks in advance if you are willing! -
I would agree on community made content approved by the devs. If the devs are willing to do such a thing. IMO community made content is too much of a resource to close the door on. But yeah, I also would not want to see most players just creating private servers to do whatever with and not be part of the actual game. I would prefer to find just official servers to choose from with the vanilla map / content and others with community made maps / content. The reason I would like to see an editor for standalone is not to load a crappy map with tons of weapons etc.. and have a DM or TDM, I would love to see more maps added which go along with the vanilla map, meaning maps which connect with the vanilla map (not on the same server), or from different parts of the RL world. Not sure if there is much of a story in standalone, but if there was, new maps could add to that also. Anyways, my thoughts on it.

Nice screens! Looks good. Only issue I see, nowhere to hide lol -
Bit of an old thread here. But it is what I found in regards to a map editor for standalone. There will be issues if there is no community made content, and there will be issues if there is. I am one that would love to make maps for standalone. Really hope for that actually. People will always make private servers with tons of loot to the point where they might as well be playing COD.... you want to force them to play vanilla? They will leave the game, eventually. So please add an editor for standalone. In the end I believe there are more positives, then negatives. Really, Arma and DayZ standalone are some of the coolest games to make maps for IMO.

Snow biomes and Snowmobiles.(If im to late to add suggestions maybe it can be in an update)
Cormyr replied to HaloGuy212's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not sure about adding say a snow biome. But a large enough mountain, or mountain range, which always has snow on it at a certain altitude would be great. Great place to add lots of new stuff, new animals, new camo for the player etc.. new weapon skins, new ways to hide etc.. and the need to stay warm!! man I wish / hope temperature could be added to standalone. anyways.. -
Must say two things. 1 - camo netting for vehicles and small player built structures. would be awesome. 2 - things being locked such as vehicles, doors, gates etc.. maybe keys are craftable. make a spare set and hide them somewhere for a friend, or in case you loose your set of keys. but to counter this, the ability to learn how to pick locks. my 2 cents on it

suggestions for DayZ Standalone - forklift, water, electricity
Cormyr posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
First off, sorry if any of this has been brought up before. Fairly new to DayZ but I am super excited about the standalone version coming out. I originally had these ideas for Infestation. But I will not be playing that game, DayZ will be for me. Anyways... these ideas are based on videos I have seen on DayZ (have not played yet). I did not see this stuff in any of the vids I have seen... again, sorry if this stuff has been brought up or is already planned for the standalone version. The forklift. A forklift which can be used to move certain things. Maybe a small car which does not work but you want to bring it back to base to repair? Or a full pallet which you move so you can jump on it and reach areas otherwise unreachable, or to use as cover or a barrier. And of course, plow through a horde of zombies, spearing them on the forks. Water: I know they are planning on adding more streams and ponds etc.. I would love to see something like, a stream passes by a factory, upstream from the factory is fairly clean water, downstream from the factory is polluted water which must be treated before drinking, or ya get very ill. Would be great if you could see where the factory is polluting the stream (a drainage pipe leaking nasty stuffs etc..). Say the stream leads down a valley and the factory is near the top of the valley. If you were to go down that valley, you would need to either bring enough water with you, plan to treat the stream water since all the water downstream from the factory is polluted, or go for a long hike to find another water source. As I am attempting to describe, this would add another level of depth to survival. Would be cool to find wells in the world also, use the crank to bring up the bucket and collect water from it. Electricity: would be awesome to find a broken gas generator in the world (not just in a field obviously), fix it up, supply gas from a jerry can and use it for things which require electricity and can be plugged in. Like a battery charger (maybe find normal batteries in the world, but also rechargeable batteries which you would need to find the charger for), or a coffee maker, or electric kettle to boil water to drink or make tea, or construction lights on stands to light up around your base. Tons of things could be added if this was done. And of course, the gas generator would be risky to use since it would be damn loud. Also, there would be limited use since it requires gas to run. What if you could connect the generator to things like a repaired air compressor to fill up your car tires with air? Maybe the generator could also be used to recharge vehicle batteries, with that said, would also be cool if you could find vehicle batteries in the world with varying charges etc.. Give your thoughts peeps! -
suggestions for DayZ Standalone - forklift, water, electricity
Cormyr replied to Cormyr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Thanks for the input and beans guys! Chaingunfighter - yeah I just wanted to keep the title simple and clear. tis suggestions for standalone. but yeah more could have been added, i know. as I just said, my ideas are for standalone, so what the arma 2 engine can do for DayZ mod does not matter to my understanding. i thought for the standalone they are working on a whole new engine. but come to think of it, yeah tis no doubt some arma engine originally, but adapted to what standalone needs. the forklift is just a neat new vehicle that would be more of a laugh. i have driven 3 different types of forklift myself. not for too long, just a few months. they can be fun, but yeah they can tip pretty easy. not speaking from experience mind you lol although a coworker from years ago took out the warehouse garage door one time haha water, well that is a shame. hopefully something can be done if that is the case. at some point.. even a year from now lol. running water would add crazy realism to the world. picture hiding behind a waterfall from your enemy and tracking them through the water. i am sure something like this has been brought up. But gotta say, it would also be awesome to take a small boat from an island off the coast into a bay then up a river as far as you can, into lakes etc... anyways. generators - I thought this would have been brought up before, but had to throw it out there. I also thought of being able to provide power to a building (to make use of equipment etc.. inside, and have new places to plug portable stuffs into), by repairing the electrical panel in a back room, or on the outside of the building. but in the end i decided it does not make sense in such a world. things like a working power grid, or running water in the kitchen etc.. just could not function. unless it was some crazy end game kinda thing which required a group effort to do. literally repair the entire power grid for a city etc.., or just to certain buildings connecting to each other, out from the power station. so by where the player repairs, once the power station is functional of course, is where the power is supplied down the streets and from there to buildings etc.. could light sections of a city up strategically then :D. but then those places would be obvious pvp zones, might be good, might be bad... anyways yeah it would take some time for such a thing. just ideas. so yeah gas generators would be great. find parts for them, repair them, get gas etc.. more uses for gas the better i think, makes having a vehicle more difficult etc.. yup flood lights which you plug-in to the generator via extension cord that would need to be found. maybe there are light bulbs for them you need to find.. hardware stores etc. flashlights could require bulbs also, not just batteries. car batteries - why not? battery runs out, car will not start, you have different means to get it going again, find new battery with some charge on it at a mechanics garage etc.., or steal one from another vehicle if you have a wrench (or whatever correct tools thingy..). or find jumper cables and connect them to either a gas generator and charge the battery that way depending on how much fuel you have or are willing to use for the generator, or connect jumper cables to another vehicle which has a good battery with a charge and you have no wrench (or whatever correct tool thingy) to just steal it. and by taking a charge from another vehicle or simply stealing it, it also makes it more difficult for other players to get vehicles. yet another layer for cars etc.. since from what i have seen, some individuals can have multiple vehicles, which to me seems out of balance. Speaking of repairing cars. It would be great if tires required air. So like ya said, there are different ways to fill up a tire with air (hand pump, air compressor etc.). Or why not drive on rims with sparks and smoke spewing out the back with bits of rubber until it catches fire which can turn really ugly for the players in the vehicle hehe ?? I may know what you mean but not sure 100% lol
