REVIVAL: Where would you like a DayZ SA map to be set?
Cormyr replied to King of kong's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Just had an interesting idea. Not for an official map mind you. I have been here in Mexico City for near 2 years now. It would be crazy to have a DayZ map set here. Like 80% of the map would be just a maze of streets with concrete buildings and house all crammed together. Although it would probably never be done.. just too many buildings to create lol. But still.. zombie apocalypse in mexico city! haha -
Maybe a sporting store should be added to SA? Carries stuff like fishing gear etc.. camping stuffs, and small er.. frontpacks :D

question regarding the harvest of wood in SA
Cormyr replied to Cormyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I know dude. Tis just a simple idea for an object which can be used to plant trees. I am 35 and spend all my life (well other than the last couple years) in BC, Canada. Plenty of pine cones around there I can assure you :P In fact, as kids we used to have pine cone wars. They are nasty if you get one in the face! -
REVIVAL: Where would you like a DayZ SA map to be set?
Cormyr replied to King of kong's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah that is why I like the area by Campbell River, the small islands there create almost a bridge across for peeps without a boat or raft. And yeah, plenty to do on the water (Strait of Georgia is like 50 km at widest part I believe), with Texada Island and all the others. Maybe I will work on this at some point. :D -
I would think that if you have a backpack on your chest, a number of things would happen. Such as, moving while crouching would be difficult and you would make a lot more noise. If you ran, it would bounce around a lot, possibly blocking your view a bit. And yeah, it would make it more difficult to use a two handed weapon. Maybe there is an option to carry it in your hand, but if it gets too heavy because it is full, you would need to put it on your chest and it would hinder you even more. My 2 cents on it. And yeah, should be able to put an empty backpack inside another one.

question regarding the harvest of wood in SA
Cormyr replied to Cormyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I have seen that. Would be great! Either use a chainsaw (super loud but fast) or hatchet (quieter then a chainsaw, but obviously slower) to hack trees down. Would be great if you could plant trees after chopping one down (collect pine cone and stick it in the ground using a shovel), and they grow to full size via growth stages or something. But I doubt that will be done. If they allowed tree chopping at all, it will require server restarts to reset trees. I am not really liking that to be honest. So.. I just posted an idea for wood gathering in the suggestion section which would not require server restarts. Just new kinds of spawns. -

question regarding the harvest of wood in SA
Cormyr replied to Cormyr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
From what I have seen, that is just using a hatchet on a tree and getting some wood stuffs eh? I know one mod actually has the tree fall down (and reset on server reset). -
Input (4 medium branches, 10 small branches, maybe some twine or vines,) Output (lean to) Tools (hatchet) FailChance 0 Enchantments = protection from wind for player and campfire ActionType = blueprint

SA suggestion - lean to and idea for 4 seasons
Cormyr replied to Cormyr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah real time seasons is what I meant. Maybe a compromise could be made? Instead of 4 whole maps being needed. Just add the weather effects (hardest parts would be adding snow which sticks to the ground, and rain causing puddles etc.. I know currently they can only have water at sea level, hope that changes), and deciduous trees with changing leaf color and for winter actually losing leaves. I really like the idea of having cover only in the evergreens during winter. I would be totally happy with that. For me, no need for 4 separate texture sets etc.. Sure it is not as realistic.. but tis a way to have 4 seasons. Anyways.. I can dream! -
Yeah ya got a point there. A well, twas just a thought.
-
I just think that using 3rd person provides plenty of extra peripheral vision (if you can call it that in that view..), and most players seem to use 3rd person a lot of the time. A person irl cannot zoom in on an object in the distance with the aid of say.. binos. Tis my point. And if a player decides to not use 3rd person, there is more of a challenge which I think they are looking for anyways.
-
To add to this a bit, I would like to suggest that players cannot zoom at all if they do not have binos etc.. if ya do not have a set of binos.. or rangefinder.. or gun with a scope, then no zooming. Tis not realistic at all and is a little cheap IMO.. no doubt this idea will piss some off.

REVIVAL: Where would you like a DayZ SA map to be set?
Cormyr replied to King of kong's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ok, so yeah I messed up and posted this in another thread which I had open in another tab.. So essentially what I had said was that Cuba or Columbia might be interesting. But would prefer the Strait of Georgia, centered on Texada Island in BC, Canada. Here: There is a military base at Comox (just east of Courtney). The dotted lines show where ferries go. You can see the island highway running along the east coast of Vancouver Island. Players could get from the island to the mainland via the bunch of islands at the top of the image... also, on the island, and on the mainland there are snow topped mountains. Would be an awesome map. -
I could go for Ireland, if it was north Ireland like at Ballycastle and the islands near by etc..maybe even over to Glasgow. Or the islands etc. between Denmark and Sweden.
-
oh man.. totally put this in the wrong thread lol. not so easy doing this stuff with a toddler on my lap talking at me 24/7 hehe. I will post in proper thread. sigh..
-
Even a couple wolves could outsmart a zombie. Check out bbc frozen planet, you will see how wolves hunt buffalo. It takes a long time, but wolves prevail. Tis probably not for everyone to watch.. ;)
-
If base building will be part of SA, this would make defending your base pretty interesting. But in general, would be nice to have this somehow.
-
Ya got a point there BigMike. Fishing with traps. This idea brought me to another. Crayfish. It is something easily caught in clean fresh water. No not all are found in Louisiana lol. They are eaten all over the world and in a survival situation, they would be an easy source of protein. Catch´m and boil them up.. In regards to ambient sounds. They are great. But sounds from actual animals in the world, even better. Like hearing an owl. Could search around and possibly find two glowing eyes up in a tree. The howl of a wolf from a distance, or close by? Anyways.. we shall see.
-
Oh yeah, rat crap in your stuff! haha. maybe if ya find rats around your base, tis best to wash your clothes before wearing them, or end up with nasty rash or something. and yeah, if ya cook one up, ya can survive on them. Anyone seen the 1983 film, Never Cry Wolf? Interesting film where a researcher dude goes up north and lives near wolves, ends up eating and acting (peeing to mark territory etc..) like they do in some ways, rat was on the menu. I think the guy was up there for months. Cannot recall.
-
Yeah I would like to see the rats as more than just something you find scurrying around here and there. Say you do some hunting, cook up the meats and store some at your base. Make another trip elsewhere, come back later and find rats have gotten into your stash. Not only are you missing some cooked meats, but what is left might just make ya sick. Other than cooked meats etc.. I do not know how they could ruin other foods which spawn, like canned beans. They cannot open cans. Mind you they would be able to get into a bag of chips or something packaged like that. So maybe ya come across a can of pop and a ripped open bag of chips with a few left.. gotta decide if it is worth eating the remaining chips and possible getting ill. Not sure how they could be a direct threat to the player. Maybe if ya get knocked out and you are bleeding, while you are lying on the ground unconscious, they quickly run over to chomp on your wound. Thus infecting your wound etc... Some thoughts for ya to chew on.
-
This is what I have been pondering. Nasty zombies based on their roles while they were living. Zombie police, guards, soldiers, the fat town butcher or chef... With the addition of armor and helmets actually providing protection, this is a really good idea. Still would like to see nasty animals as kinda bosses. No bears? Not even at the zoo? :(
-
Then how can it be made realistic? To have prey animals run 100% of the time and predators attack 100% of the time.. that makes even less sense. There must be factors which make certain actions possible or not possible etc.. Like is that wolf starving? If so, it will no doubt attack a lone player. If it has just eaten, then no doubt it would run away. And prey animals, like a deer, most likely would run as soon as they detect a player or heard gun fire etc.. (hunting these types of animals should be difficult). But if they have young, they might just stand their ground and possibly charge. So maybe the predators can be controlled, at least somewhat, with a hunger property. But what about the prey? Fear?

A A List Of Buildings That Would Be Fun To See In Chernarus
Cormyr replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have another building suggestion which I do not think has come up, at least in this thread. And I have not heard them mentioned in vids I have watched. Government buildings.
