As an admin I would support your restrictions. I'd say remove all admin privileges. Let the community pay for all the servers through donation and only the dayz staff handles server maintenance. Depending on how much money the game makes, that's the amount of servers we get. Edit: To elaborate a bit more. Then we're all in the same boat again and all the cheating issues go directly to the DayZ staff. Plus I don't have to invest 50 bucks and feel like I bought a sack of angry cats. -
Hi all I've read somewhere that you should restart your server all 6 hours. Now for the most part of last month I did that as well as possible. But is it really necessary? I've found whenever I managed to not restart it (had a 3 day phase) I simply felt no difference on my server. So far I see a restart as more damaging for the experience (restoring of tents and sometimes their gear in it). Or vehicles/tents vanish after a restart. Is there some bloating going on in the server files, maybe logs? Actually now that I think about it, my server host never even once mentioned restarting the server to be necessary.

I understand your pain. I'm strongly considering going private and shut down my official one. For now, the amount of control you get vs the amount of what is done against hackers that take away the fun for all the players on my server is not enough for me to pay 50+ bucks per month. I have no problem investing in this mod, but not when people loose all their stuff they worked for hours and all I can do is shrug my shoulders.

I bought arma 2 for arma 2 and will buy arma 3 for arma 3. DayZ is just a bonus. In a few months playerbase will diminish massively when the majority jumps on something new. Then we'll have good Dayz ;) -

I don't know. I have a feeling the air is a bit out. Normally my server would be full by now and now it's lingering at 17 players instead of 50. A quick glance at the server list reveals that there are only 2 full servers :\ -

What exactly do you think is being tested here? The only stresstest that occurs is the database being hammered. There is no magic behind it. The exact model that is being used right now won't be used in a standalone version anyway. You can't have this amount of important data send to you by privates who play on an engine that is as shaky as this one right now. Statistics mostly don't matter right now anyway since there is such a massiv amount of duping going on. Do you know how hard a serverhoster theoretically could fuck your beloved hive? If rocket were to give the option to his paying server-hosters/admins to go private he could collect data as well on let's say an hourly basis. Noone would say shit. You get the same results, the same data, you can have the same banpower. Where is the problem? Feedback to the state of development would be exactly the same. There is only one thing you as a player get from a central hive and that is server-to-server inventory persistence. That's it. There is nothing more. Get this in your head. Anything else that is of value like tents, vehicles, trading posts and as such the community around these things is bound to the server. The negatives outweigh the positives by a shitton. -

That's why I like playing at night. In two days I found 3 helicrashsites and I'm over stacked with weapon choices. Here's how I do it. Whenever I die and respawn I just run in a straight line inland. Don't care about food, water, guns or anything for that matter. I just keep running and look for the little light that the crashsite has. I ignore all cities and villages. Granted the last time I found a crashsite this way I ended up with 6k blood and food in the blinking red and water in the deep red. I almost died if it wasn't for a friend giving me blood and food. This way I have found a L85A2 AWS, Bizon SD, M14 EP1 and a M107. It takes time. Last time I ran for 2 hours. Whenever I have a great gun I never go to the airfield anymore. It's simply mayhem there. -

Hi guys. I'm looking for a good hoster to run at least 2-3 dayz server on it. Can anyone drop me some links and expirience reports? And preferably the minimum cpu (that's common these days) for such a setup. Not interested in the likes of HFB, Vilayer, Hostaltitude.

The creator is back O_O Reads all very good. To disable the respawn button is something I agree with. You can of course still suicide but I think it's smarter to disable it and think about groupplay mechanics in the future. Some might say "yes but we like to respawn close" while I think once you're together and there is the threat of one dying and that he could potentially spawn far away gives just a bit more edge to the whole group play. I'm always cool with the DayZ logo. Is there a possibility for modder to include custom fonts / background image in the menu? Or has BI never implemented such a feature? I just think these are the small details that tighten the box a bit more so to speak. Hive tracking. Looking forward to the next steps with this process and I like that, since you have so many players, look in to collecting data first then take necessary steps. Good move and right choice to make use of the massiv playerpool.

I understand where Cooky is coming from. I think the coolest thing about indie games is that information don't have to go through community managers and project leaders. And even if we're in alpha stage and this mod has more holes than a swiss cheese it's fantastic to see the dev engaging with his community. I would have never rented a server if it wasn't for all rocket's posts where you can read about his view and mindset for the mod. But then again Cooky. Patience. Rome wasn't build in a day. Soon ripe, soon rotten. Haste makes waste.

I'd rather have a fatigue system and sprinting is only possible over a certain amount of time. Then the map would suddenly get bigger :)

As a player who repeatedly plays at night without NVG or Thermal the simple thought that someone could watch me with one gives me the creeps. And I think that pretty much is what rocket wants. But I have to agree there is nothing better when you wander through the night and suddenly out in the "nowhere" you see one or two flares, the immersion is so wonderful. Unfortunately night is so insanely dark that my server drops from 50 people to about 10 right away when it's pitch black. There is a time right before it's dark where you can almost see nothing but still enough to make out shapes. That's where I think it should stay. To give you a small almost pitch black night story. One time I heard shots and I was in one of these long open buildings. I looked out and saw two players standing. And since I had nothing but an hatchet I hoped to god that they went just through this building and wont come in. After about 10 seconds one ran up to the building. It was dark enough that I had time to jump into the corner without him seeing me. He came in, and stood still right at the entrance. I saw he had a weapon and was like "shit shit shit". He turned to look right at me and I could see how much he freaked by the simpel fact that he spasmed out and fired to shots into the nowhere. I screamed "DON'T" but it was too late. His adrenalin was up and in panic he shot and shot. What he saw of course was a dim silhouette of a figure with a hatchet right next to him. I don't blame him. That's why I'm 50/50 about this. On one hand I would like to have these items rare as fuck. On the other hand I see enough potential to adjust the game that they shouldn't be necessary since stories like the ones up there make up for it. As long as it's not pitchblack.
