We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits. At a bare minimum this should be an easily implemented mod for future private servers. We're paying for it, it should be our choice. You don't like it, don't play on my server.....lol SEE IMAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST FOR AN EXAMPLE. 1. Some of you like to be a KOS bandit. Got it. 2. Some of us would like to be Heros. But we can't do it with the way the game currently is, unless you like being a bullet / axe sponge. Something to identify heros and bandits "at distance" is needed to enable 2 to happen. Something visible if you can actually SEE the person. It could be an armband, face wrap, mask, whatever. Don't care what it is. Distances: Just your eyes = maybe see it at 50-100 meters Short range scope = see it at 100-200 meters Long range scope = see it at 200-400 meters EDIT: It can be something like an armband that you would select "Yes Wear" or "No Destroy" when you spawn each time. You get to CHOOSE if you want to have the armband on or not. It would not be a lootable item though. That would make the system pointless / broken. I really LOVE that Rocket's videos all have a bunch of friendly players that he meets in a private locked server.....lol I would love it even more if he went into a full public server and ran around Electro or Cherno for a couple of hours. It would be a shit video and not a good advertisement for the game, because he'd get KOS'd over and over and over. I would love to see Rocket getting chased for 20-30 minutes by some 12 year old with an axe. Having something visual that would tell the difference between Hero and Bandit would NOT ruin your gameplay. You can STILL KOS. It will NOT prevent KOS style gameplay or ruin the game. However it would ENABLE people to be Heros if they wanted to. YOU get to play as a KOS bandit, but we can't play as a Hero unless we want to eat bullets or an axe in 90% of player interactions. Honestly I think all the hate (and I'm sure troll posts below) from the KOS guys is because they are scared to death of groups of Heros leaving other Heros alone, and hunting them down. Also for those that WHINE that it's a huge disadvantage to have identification..........guess what.........being a KOS bandit is a HUGE advantage over Heros who have to try to interact with other players. Everyone you see.....you kill. No questions asked. Heros can't do that, so there's an inherent problem with the BALANCE of gameplay. We can't identify other heros, and can't KOS everyone. If you're not scared, why hate on the idea? Can't up your game to deal with a few Heros? ------------------------- Followup Post: Yep, arguing realism doesn't work. If this was real, you wouldn't have to eat every 3 minutes to survive, or die from not eating for 1 hour. Loot wouldn't respawn magically at a certain time. The cities like Cherno and Electro would be hellholes full of millions of zombies you wouldn't even go near. Not everyone is trained on weapons, and those that weren't "should" have bad accuracy. This game is not real, while they want to strive for realistic gameplay, some things need to happen to facilitate gameplay (respawning loot, everyone having equal accuracy while shooting, etc). You can make the humanity system relatively unexploitable by issuing different points for kills: Kill a hero = -1000 humanity Kill a civ = -500 humanity Kill a bandit = +250 humanity ** No humanity gain or loss from any other actions. No healing points, zombie killing points, etc, etc. Just strictly based on player kills. You'd have to kill 4 bandits for every hero killed if you wanted to stay positive. ** Maybe add a double penalty for killing 2 heros or civs in a row. That would definitely fix people farming humanity, just so they could KOS later. ** There would also need to be an "anti-humanity farming" system that doesn't give you any humanity if you kill the same person within a 2 week period. So you couldn't have a bandit group, where 1 fake hero farms their "friends" for positive humanity over and over. So if a fake hero shot their friend over and over, they would only get the +250 humanity once every 2 weeks. If you did everything above, the system would be relatively unexploitable, and the hero / bandit playstyles could achieve "balance" in the game. Right now approaching another player is the easiest way to force the KOS issue. Of every player I've ever approached, 90% of them have tried to kill me if they at least had a melee weapon. So if you want to be a bullet / axe sponge, keep doing that. I'd rather have a way to IDENTIFY that someone is a hero, so I don't necessarily have to shoot them. I want to play as a Hero without playing a Hero Bullet / Axe sponge. If we had some way to identify Heros, Civs, and Bandits, you could stop raging at the crap tons of KOS topics because 75% of them would stop overnight. Otherwise you can keep saying NO NO NO NO NO to every possible solution and put up with a million more KOS topics in the forums. Your choice.......lol -------------------------------- Followup Post: Hell, I'd even be fine if you could DESTROY your armband, as long as it's NOT a lootable item. If you don't want an armband, rip it up. Heros and civs would probably keep theirs on. KOSers would rip theirs off. Problem solved. You don't HAVE to wear it. --------------------------------- Decided to make an example of what it might look like. Please note the color is brighter just for illustrative purposes.

I would be good with that as well. As long as the "view" distances corresponded to what I outlined with the armbands. So you couldn't see someone's name with just "your eyes" if they were a tiny tiny spec on the horizon. You'd need a high powered sniper scope to see that. -

If you want a Free for All Shooter.........go play COD..........I mean Standalone. Good argument! And random lootable clothing doesn't mean hero or bandit. I'm sure there are heros that wear the PayDay mask. I'm sure there are Bandits that wear the Press Vest. Thanks for the bump :) -

Sure, but there's a real life consequence for KOS. You either go to jail, or are executed. Good analogy! Troll Fail :) -

Once again you didn't read how the system works, and continue to misquote how the system works. It's an armband you spawn with after you've met the hero or bandit requirements. YOU CAN TAKE IT OFF, OR LEAVE IT ON. You don't need to use it. <---------------wow you missed the last 20 times I've said that.....lol BTW thanks for bumping the thread again :) -

The majority of forum users seem to want the most "Vanilla" DayZ they can get. However, the majority of actual PRIVATE SERVERS that people pay for want an Epoch experience. Hence about 3 Epoch servers for every 1 Vanilla. If you aren't paying for it, you don't have any right to say what we can or cannot do. I can't come to your house and tell you how to spend your money right? What services to buy? What you can order for dinner? What games you can or cannot buy? Nope? Didn't think so. I love the "no no no" argument that we can't get what WE want on a server WE pay for. That's economic fascism at it's finest. I'll agree to that, if you agree that I can veto any purchase you might want to make in the future. Then we can both agree on something! And thanks for continuing to reply and bump the topic!!!!! -

So when the heros in the forums say "our color is blue". 10 seconds later every KOS bandit in the server will be wearing it. That won't work. Clothes that you can find, craft, build, loot, whatever won't work. It has to be something that you spawn with that is not lootable. -

If it's lootable, it won't work. People will KOS heros just to get the item. Then use it as a ruse to kill other heros. It has to be something you spawn with, that is not lootable off the body. -
Welcome to the Permadeath Deathmatch KOS Standalone. Point Proven......lol

Right now it's 100% KOS or be KOS'd. So you can't get more KOS than we're currently experiencing. The KOS is so boring that our entire clan stopped playing. The grand majority of bandits are killing people, not holding them up. Heros do kill people. Ask every soldier who's been sent overseas to overthrow a dictator. With the Armband Humanity System: You don't have do to anything. You don't have to kill anyone. You don't have to abstain from killing people. You don't even have to wear the armband if you don't want to. So you can DO whatever you want to do. The system only identifies you if YOU want it to. There are no other perks or drawbacks. I'm fine if this is only for Private Servers. But it needs to be something the DEVELOPERS make so it's effective. The mod humanity system was NOT effective. It WOULD however enable heros to identify other heros (if they left their armband on). It would increase interaction, and reduce KOS. If I saw a hero, I could be reasonably assured that they were friendly. At a bare minimum he'd have to kill 4 bandits for every 1 hero he killed. If you add the "double penalty" for subsequent hero kills, and they were just farming bandits to go screw over heros, they would rapidly transition back to bandit with the "double penalty" points (so you'd have to kill 8 or more bandits for every 1 hero killed to stay a hero). The system would work, it just needs developer attention. -
Only the most douchebag gameplay styles are encouraged in the Standalone. Welcome to the Permadeath Deathmatch KOS Standalone. If they had an Effective Humanity System, there would be other valid gameplay styles. Until then, just KOS everyone you see. You'll enjoy the game more. It WOULD be nice if the developers would focus on CORE FEATURES of the game like bases, vehicles, humanity, etc. Instead they do 1 million small trinket upgrades so I can paint a helmet, or certain eating animations function properly. WHO CARES?????? This isn't a FASHION SHOW. I don't care if I can paint my stuff different colors. So far I'm not impressed by the DayZ developers. All hype, no delivery. The only positive thing I can say is..........they aren't crooked money grubbing assholes like the WarZ developers. If DayZ was a Pizza Delivery Service...........what you would get is a nice looking reciept, with "fancy" fonts, and neat logos. Unfortunately the freaking PIZZA is missing.

Not sure of play-style, but a good squad-man will help.

Welcome to the Deathmatch Permadeath KOS Standalone. Just shoot everyone you see, no reason not to. If you don't KOS, you risk losing all of your gear. If there was an effective Humanity System, then it might actually be playable as a hero character. -
+1 Yep, with no humanity system and no way to tell friendly from bandit..........going out to kill "bandits" really means "going out to kill anyone we see". Welcome to the Deathmatch Permadeath KOS Standalone........lol

Operation "Sanctuary" safe zone calling all heroes (Event Ended)
1S1K-Airborne replied to thelonewarrior's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, this will be a giant mess. Good luck trying to enforce that no KOS rule. You're going to get bandits from all over, walking in, waiting for the right time, and wiping out players. Once someone starts shooting, everyone will start shooting. So you've taken the KOS fest that is this game, and moved it all to one location. Maybe this is just a ploy to get the gear off all the KOS'd players.......lol -

You can play how you want, yet you scream and scream that others can't play how they want. <----------your level of intolerance = expert! And in the mod you did have Vanilla, which was a no frills, anything goes, blah experience. The KOS mess that is the Standalone is the easiest way to play the game. <----------play style so simple I could teach a chimp to do it -
Not a good analogy. You have a 100% monopoly on servers. That is saying ALL flats are "no animal" flats. I agree we won't be renting a server, or playing the game, or buying any future titles from Arma. By the time DayZ gets it's act together, has useful features like the mod, Bethesda will have a Fallout MMO out and it will be a moot point.
-
So the person PAYING for the server has no choice? <-------------I love how the NO NO NO NO NO crowd consistently misses this point So if you go to a restaurant, I get to decide what YOU order and then I eat it? Glad to know you've got a firm grasp on how the world works!

It's a nice thought, but it really wouldn't work. If you made your own blue armband, went to the forums and said "blue armband that you make is for HEROS"..................every bandit would be wearing one 30 minutes later. That 100% defeats the reason for the armband in the first place. It has to be something you earn in the game by killing heros, civs, or bandits.........and is not lootable. That's the only way it can work. -

Interesting humanity system. They need to do something. At lest for private servers. I really like the idea of a visual humanity system, there are no penalties for any players. They just look different. You can still KOS, you can be a hero, you can still do whatever you want. Our clan has completely stopped playing, there's nothing to do except get "geared up" and "go KOS". Super boring, easiest type of gameplay style possible. I can't even get anyone to join a SA game just for giggles. The funny thing is we've had members start playing infestation again. That says a lot about how slow / poor this game development is going. Edit: I just saw that there's no positive humanity for bandits killing bandits in Breaking Point. That wouldn't work. You couldn't get back into hero status if you accidentally killed 1 x Level 3 Hero. I think the humanity system I laid out in the original post would be better. -
Do You Belive Players Who Shot Unarmed And Friendly Fresh Spawns Are Bad?

Welcome to the Deathmatch Permadeath KOS Standalone. You might as well shoot everyone on sight. There's no benefit not to do it. If you don't do it, you'll end up dying a lot. They should implement a humanity system like the one in my signature below, that would at least BALANCE out the hero vs KOS bandit gameplay. -
So people that want and pay for a PVE server, can't have it? I guess KOS is not only suggested by the dev team, it's actually enforced with getting your server shut down. Good to know. We're not buying a server or even playing this game until that changes. KOS = Valid gameplay PVE = Server shut down / ban Glad to see the dev team appreciates different play styles. Glad to see they're not favoring any one group. Oops, they are!
