No. As far as I can tell, right now, there's no reason to believe it's OP.. Taking a hit from a zombie or two, you can easily regen a few hundred health if you stay out of combat and stay healthy. However, if you take a gunshot, you're going to need a blood bag/saline transfusion, otherwise you're going to be at low health for quite a while, and usually you will lose your "healthy" status by being shot.

As far as I can tell, they are working as intended. Read my post above thoroughly to understand. If you are sick, it does not necessarily say you are sick. Sometimes you have to take anti's/clean wounds/eat charcoal before it will display the "sick" status.. This does not mean the anti/charcoal/wound cleaning made you sick. -
This just happened to me at NEAF.. Instant death, no shots fired, no sickness.. was in good health and fully armed, nobody was at airfield.

Where is everyone? NW Airfield not a hotspot anymore?

The last thing this game needs is GLOBAL CHAT.. There is literally no reason to use global chat, ever. Here's what people say in Global Chat: -Typical shit talk. "LOL NUB GOT OWNED" -"Anyone in Cherno/Elektro/Balota/etc" -"Can anyone give me a ride?" -"Hey bandit, are you friendly?" All of this can either be removed, or replaced with direct chat. -
I don't care if there are 30 sniper rifles in the game, as long as they are all bolt action hunting rifles like the CZ550.

Any information on how much Motorbike helmets protect? -
What exactly do ballistic helmets stop

What's interesting to me is that while there was no "penetration", it's quite clear that if you get shot in the back of the head with a .45, the coroner is going to be digging your helmet out of where your brain used to be. -
Military grade sniper rifles such as the AWM should be extremely rare (think Satchel Charge/Night Vision/GPS rare), while handguns, shotguns, and hunting rifles should be common as hell. Assault Rifles should be accessible but only in military/police areas, and based on the area they should mostly be AK variants. Currently it's possible to find an M4A1 in schools, which simply doesn't make sense. I never liked the DMR simply for the fact that it was the only sniper rifle with a scope that you could use night vision with. Either all scopes should be compatible with NVG's, or NONE... Or possibly only Assault Rifle, while Sniper Rifles have no NVG. This way, if you want to engage someone at night you actually have to be within ~200 meters, rather than laying in a treeline 800 meters away and taking pot shots into populated areas at night.

Yup.. Exiting Balota I stopped at the water pump to drink.. Crowbar guy with a helmet runs up to try to hit me and take my M4, which only had 5 rounds in it.. I back peddle and shoot him, hit him with a few shots, then I turn and start booking it. He chased me all the way from Balota to Komorova, attempting to finish his would be kill. Unfortunately for him, he went unconscious shortly after entering the town, right infront of a fresh spawn.. So I offered the Fresh spawn some food/water and the gear off the guys body, which he happily took.

This. Motorcycle helmets also protect you from some damage.. All gear in the game protects you from "SOME" damage. This (among other reasons) is why it's important to carry around "Pristine" gear, if at all possible.. It actually absorbs some damage and can mean the difference between life and death in extreme situations. -

You're misinterpretting the messages you receive from alcohol/charcoal. I will give you a rundown of what happened to me... -I had "Healthy" status, which is attainable by getting fed/hydrated, which will then allow you to regenerate health. -I got hit by a few zombies, and my "healthy" stat disappeared. This was my first indication that I was, indeed, sick. -I used alcohol to "wipe wounds", and then I got the indication that I was "sick" in my character tab. -After a while, the game kept telling me "My wounds look cleaner". It did this approximately 4-6 times. -Eventually, the game told me "My wounds are fully cleaned." -I ate 2-3 more times, and drank 2-3 more times, and I got the "Healing" stat back, which then turned into "Healthy" after a while. Basically, alcohol, charcoal tabs, and antibiotics do not INSTANTLY cure sickness. It's a process. Those remedies only stop the progression of the sickness, and then the sickness begins working backwards through stages. After it reaches the least threatening stage, it eventually wears off if you have not died. Taken from the Dayzdb guide: If you notice, the infection causes you to lose water in stage 1 and 4, and health/blood in stages 2-3.. You can stop the sickness from getting worse at any stage by treating your wounds. Once treated, you will still continue to undergo the negative effects of the infection (which means losing hydration/blood/health etc), which can cause you to die or go unconscious (and die). In order to control this, treat your wounds/sickness immediately, then hydrate yourself until the sickness wears off. -

Disinfectant Spray can be used to clean your wounds and disinfect your clothing/bandages. Cleaning your wounds actually has a purpose. -
You guys fed the troll.

It's also that a lot of kids (and people in general) don't have the charisma to communicate themselves or their desires to other players, so rather than try to talk things out and "role-play" the encounter, they just default back to "PEW PEW PEW".

No.. Let me modify that: Rule #1: Trust no one. Rule #2: If you get the drop on someone, gain control of the situation and do not hesitate to shoot if they do not comply with your demands. Rule #3: If both parties notice one another at the same time, or if you are unable to get in a dominant position: Shoot when you make contact. Do not risk your life. Rule #4: If someone gets the drop on you, they have control over the situation.. Comply to them to the extent your personality allows you to. Rule #5: Friends are more valuable than loot, in DayZ. A Team of cooperative players can get a lot more done than a lone wolf.

SUGGESTION: Bigfoot in remote woodlands.
Etherimp replied to cunninglinguist's topic in General Discussion
No. I'd be happy with wild bears roaming the woods though, and potentially attacking survivors or raiding their tents/stashes if they contained food. -
Report me all you like. People who go to Balota airstrip to shoot at under-geared players are assholes. Have fun though, whatever gets your rocks off.

dayzdb.com.. Enjoy camping fresh spawns in Balota with a group of geared friends, asshole.

Something I wanted to say (positive Alpha thoughts)
Etherimp replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
Look at the forums once a day and you'll see what I mean.. Every day there's several threads bitching about combat loggers, server hoppers, and hackers, as though this game is somehow competitive. Meanwhile, I've seen very few people bring up the fact that ladders frequently kill players. I've not seen a single thread mention how sometimes players get stuck in an animation where it looks like they're gliding across the terrain flipping an item under their arm repeatedly... -

Etherimp replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
I think a lot of people here need to realize the difference between a Bug Report and a Feature Request.. People who request features -> ITS ALPHA.. Wait for the development process to flesh out a bit, and you may see your feature.. IF you don't, THEN you may request the feature come Beta/Gold.. People who report bugs/glitches/serious issues with gameplay -> The "It's alpha" bullshit doesn't fly. It's our "job" to report these things and give feedback. That said.. People should STOP requesting features.. I am pretty sure Dean knows what direction he wants to take the game and there will be plenty of time for community requested features to come to fruition. Until then, let's focus on the important issues. -
I have a badly damaged pen, and I have pristine paper.. I can drag the pen to the paper and it says "write on paper", but it does nothing.. If I click "read note", it does nothing.. If I put the pen in my hand and put the paper on the ground and mouse-over it and click "write on paper", it does nothing.. Anyone know what gives?

Okay, so it doesn't work yet? I could swear I've seen photos of notes, and people saying that they work.
