That would be preferably.. Relog and your kneecaps are fixed. Like magic!

Since 2 patches ago, the M4 spawn was reduced by 50%. There is also a new weapon (The Revolver) which can spawn in the same place as M4 used to, so it was unofficially reduced by more than 50%.

Toggle between burst and single shot
Etherimp replied to Johnny Trigger's topic in General Discussion
Correct. There's currently nothing that displays the fire mode you're in.. you just have to expend some ammo to find out. It's T by default. -

And.. you're wrong. You can toggle between Single fire and Auto. Press T. -
Oh no, an internet tough guy.

Dude, if you got shot it's your own fault.... a couple of tips for you 1. Run in a group, that way he knows that even if he does manage to kill you, he won't be getting away with your gear without someone killing him right back 2. Never take your eyes off of the person you're helping. (This is part of why you need more than 1 person to properly assist noobs). 3. Keep groundrules.. Make them known before you give them a helping hand. You should have told the guy to keep the gun in his inventory and not draw it or load it until after you were out of sight. If you had done this, he never would have drawn the weapon without knowing he would be instantly shot. The problem isn't that the community sucks; it's that you lack experience.. Rather than taking your mistakes as a lesson to be improved upon next time, you decided "OH FUCK EVERYONE THEY'RE ALL BAD".. Quite the contrary. I have been killed on sight many times and I have had to defend myself many times.. I have helped others many times and I have been helped by others many times. I've even killed some people on sight myself.. usually within reason. I'm not running around the coast shooting fresh spawns or anything. The difference is, each time I make a mistake I learn from it. I have come across a couple of very inexperienced bandits... In one example, 2 guys held me up (I was a freshspawn) at Kamenka military base.. The long story short version is, they ended up getting distracted, and I ran up the hill to another barracks only to find an M4 and a 60 round Stanag mag in the same barracks. I came back down the hill and flipped the script on them, and sent them packing without weapons or shoes. In another example, a guy shot at me while I was at the well in Elektro.. I ran, and he chased me around one of the residential buildings behind the Church.. he came around the corner, shot at me again, MISSED, and then yelled at me and told me "STOP MOVING, STOP MOVING".. As if he was going to hold me up. Now, why would someone who already shot at me twice attempt to hold me up? He obviously just wanted my gear.. I had a mosin and ammo to boot, as well as a bunch of Camo clothing. Thing was, he didn't have control of the situation.. I shot him once, he yelled for me to stop moving again, and I shot him again and dropped him. You can't hold up someone unless you have control of them. I've also come across people who I KNOW would have shot me on sight, IF they had a weapon.. I was rolling with a group of 3 this morning at NWAF, we are all fully geared and well armed.. I was running towards the Central Police Station near the Fire Station, and I saw a guy in Camo clothing with a Payday mask running out of it.. He yelled "friendly", and I told him I was as well. Of course, all he had was an axe, so OF COURSE he was friendly.. he was out gunned! He was very sketch, and I know that if he had an M4 he would have shot me.. I didn't care.. Offered him help, gave him a Saline Bag, and sent him on his way. There's a small chance that interaction he had with me will change his approach in the future.. probably not, but .. maybe?

I think that's understandable .. Even heroes have to operate within those guidelines in order to protect themselves. That is much different than the "lone wolf kill on sight" mentality.

1. There is no "fraternity of murderers".. Any such fraternity implodes upon itself after a short time. Sorry, but these are just the facts. The only possible exceptions you could argue for are barbarian tribes, religious cults, and cannibalistic tribes. But those tribes/cults have a strict honor code within the group, they simply prey upon outsiders. It is feasible/probable that any small group "survivors" who managed to weather the initiate chaos of an apocalypse would also have a very strict honor code and become very wary of outsiders, and in many cases would probably murder outsiders without question. This, however, is not the same image of an anarchist bandit that the previous poster (and to some extent, yourself) tends to draw though. To rebuild society you need to group and cooperate. Lone wolfs may exist, but they eventually die off without legacy. 2. I do not believe in "god", so no. 3. No.. Murderers generally do not cooperate. There are three possible motivations for murder: Compulsion (Sociopaths/psychopaths), Passion (Crimes of Passion.. Emotional unrest. Usually followed by extreme guilt.), and Profit.. You could make the argument that small groups of bandits would cooperate in order to take from others "for profit", but the type of person that lifestyle attracts would be inherently untrustworthy, and as I said above, that group of murderers would eventually implode upon itself and fizzle out of existence. Even the Monguls, for as ruthless of conquerers as they were, would offer surrender and enslavement to their enemies before they would opt to kill them all. They only killed everyone who didn't cooperate. 4. I know how to do some of those things, but I was not the one arguing that Lone Wolf murderers and banditry is the "reality" of the world. I was arguing the opposite point, where cooperation with groups of people is required for progress. You are ASSUMING that a small group of cold-hearted bandits would be able to overcome a much larger group of cooperative individuals. You are ASSUMING that cooperating with others makes you weak. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples of "Civilized" agricultural societies conquering hordes of invading barbarians or tribes of murderers. You need look no further than the English or Roman empires. There is strength in numbers and people who are naturally cooperative are going to be more inclined to become a part of an organized group/society. Lone wolves and psychopaths do not mix well with others. 5. In Tribal societies of the size we're talking about, EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE.. There are no secrets within the tribe. If someone commits a crime, it is known about and everyone knows who did it and who is responsible. That is one of the many reasons why Dunbars number exists... Groups of 70-150 individuals are extremely efficient. 6. Proofread your post please. I think what you're trying to say is that some people celebrated on 9/11.. Yeah, and? There will always be 2 opposing sides to every issue.

What are your thoughts on the FNX 45?
Etherimp replied to BuzzBurridge's topic in General Discussion
Have gone 1v2 against 2 M4 wielding bandits in Elektro with the FNX.. Came around the side entrance of the school and lit one guy up, took 1 shot from him, bandaged, and got his friend as he tried to hunt me down. Unfortunately didn't last very long after that, but the FNX definitely has stopping power. Only problem is the accuracy is a little derpy. -
Removing saline and making ammo much more rare?
Etherimp replied to r4nger's topic in General Discussion
The function of Saline and Blood Bags needs to be swapped.. saline should rehydrate you completely, and give you "some" blood.. (Bring you back to a stable condition) Blood bags should give you full blood. -
Interact with other players.. sometimes that involves firefights, sometimes it involves helping someone out. This isn't Call of Duty.

You ARE able to spawn all over the coast.. Problem is people don't want to spawn "all over the coast", they want to spawn right next to all the l33t l00t.. Most people in this game will run by a Mosin that is hiding in the top of a residential building that nobody has even gone into, to make their way to the firestation which has already been looted 25 times and has nothing but an old pair of sneakers in it.. Then they go to the school.. then the super market, then the other firestation, then they get shot, respawn, commit suicide 4 times, then ragequit.

1. Fix the "instant death glitch" 2. Fix the incessant desync problems 3. Fix the nesting of objects inside of one another.. (backpack inside a backpack inside a backpack, etc. Probably will fix a lot of desyncing) 4. Fix the glitch which causes you to fall off ladders as mounting them 5. Add server restart warnings (15, 10, 5, and 1 minute) 6. Do not spawn player into world until after they are fully loaded in. 7. Fix the dispersion on the M4 (especially).. but all weapons in general 8. Add the shotguns, and the AK47. 9. Reduce the sound of the ocean 10. Increase gunshot sounds. 11. Increase zombie count 12. Decrease zombie aggro range slightly 13. Fix Pens/Paper so they work properly 14. Fix the body dupe exploit. 15. Fix the 1 vote to become admin exploit. 16. Make the hotkeys (0-9) more responsive 17. Respawn loot/zombies. 18. Combat logging solution. 19. Fix menu/options issues, such as mouse-accel, etc. 20. Fix zombies/players from running thru walls/buildings. That's a good start, I think...

Were you on the 2nd or higher floor of a building?

In the mod there was an "inspect body" option, but not sure if that's planned in the future for the standalone.. would be nice if it was. Unfortunately, in the mod, there were only two options.. "Died from a gunshot to the head" = They died instantly. (Explosion, fall damage, etc) "Died from bloodloss" = They didn't die instantly. (died to zombies, or gunshots and eventual bloodloss) Would be nice if there was a new "inspect body" which gave more details, such as .. "riddled with bullet holes" or "A single bullet hole in the head" or "seems to have died of some kind of infection or sickness", or "the body looks dehydrated/malnourished", etc.

(Most) Everything in your post and, in fact, your entire line of thinking and the basis for your argument is absolutely and completely full of horse shit. In the event of a social breakdown, there WILL be people who resort to murder, theft, rape, and other "immoral" actions. Unfortunately for those people, they will eventually isolate themselves due to their own paranoia and others inability to trust them. The planet Earth (and in fact, DayZ), has more than enough resources to go around. Necessary survival resources such as food, water, and even equipment are not in "short supply", on Earth, or in DayZ. People you can trust, on the other hand, are a resource which provides incredible returns. Without cooperation from groups of people working together in a mutually beneficial relationship, the human race would not exist today. The only reason we have evolved to become the top of the food chain is because we have worked together and provided one another with products and services. It's the entire basis of any economy. Sure, we all know you can pull a trigger and shoot people.. .Anyone can do that.. But Can you make a quilt? Can you build a house? Can you repair a car? Can you make a boat? Can you navigate a large body of water? Can you hunt by yourself? Do you know which herbs, berries, and vegetables in the wild are poisonous and which are nutritious? Can you tailor shoes and cloths? Do you know how to mine ore, or refine it? The fact is, there are too many things to know how to do, for one person to not only know how, but also to do those things by themselves. In order to create a sustainable lifestyle for yourself and your offspring, you need more than just yourself. Tribal societies, both historically and currently, live by what is called "Dunbars number".. It's been shown that small tribes between 70-150 people function extremely efficiently and live very fulfilling and happy lives. Know what happens to liars, murderers, rapists, child molestors, and thieves in small tribal societies? They are either killed or become outcasts, depending upon their disposition and their "crime". The whole concept you're pushing about morality being relative has very little weight to it, when you look at reality and science. When the World Trade Center was hit, rather than seeing people taking advantage of the chaos by victimizing others, you saw people reaching out and helping people they did not know and had no reason to help other than that they were another human being who was in need. Your cynical philosophy on the world is archaic, absurd, and does not reflect reality in the least.

There were a few aspects of the former humanity system which were "wrong".. I will outline it below.. 1. If you were a hero, it encouraged you to maintain your hero status, which was good... however, you could often be tricked by survivors who just wanted to jack your shit, and whether they shot you first or not, you would be punished for killing them even if you had to in self defense. 2. If you were a survivor, you could maintain survivor status by doing banditry, so long as you gave it some time between each act, or so long as you were not the actual person doing the killing.. for example, you could run around with a group of 3 bandits, and bait heroes into your traps. 3. If you were a bandit, everybody shot you on sight.. bandits, heroes, and survivors alike, so it didn't exactly encourage you to change your ways.
-
I don't think you can add a lot of artificial and often arbitrary "punishments" for KOS.. People KOS for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I will KOS, most times I will not. Times I will KOS -I see someone who is armed (gun) and is wearing a Payday mask.. Yes, as silly as it is, I feel payday masks are picked up and used by people who want to look "scary".. If you want to look scary or intimidating then I feel you are the type of person who will shoot on sight anyway, so I won't give you the benefit of the doubt. -Fully military geared with gasmasks and camo... People don't get geared up for PVP unless they are looking for PVP... Just like survivors don't don Ghillie Suits and sit on sniper hill in the mod unless they are looking to shoot freshspawns. Not to say everyone who wears military gear will kill you on sight, but it's better to be safe than sorry. -When I find server hoppers/ghosters at NWAF. -When I see fully geared players on the coast. (Balota, elektro, etc.).. If you're still on the coast and you're fully gear, odds are you're looking to kill fresh spawns. This may not always be the case (RhinoCrunch and his crew help fresh spawns), but again, better to be safe, than sorry. So, you see, I have been conditioned by my environment to kill certain people on sight. If I see a survivor wearing civilian clothing and carrying a mosin on his back, I will probably approach him (cautiously) and talk to him, ask him if he needs any help.. And I have had others do the same for me. The problem is not that the game. The problem is the community. People want something to do and they want to use their guns. The way to "Fix" the KOS problem is to show the community through example how rewarding it can be to play as a hero. Youtube: The Green Avenger DayZ, and you will laugh hysterically and it will make you want to take a similar approach. Watch RhinoCrunch's series on "Surviving DayZ Standalone", and he does some really cool things for fresh spawns. These kinds of players/youtubers are good for DayZ, and if you want to fix the KOS "problem", the only way to do so is through your own actions. Another thing is.. Once Vehicles and other "end game" content are put in the game, groups of players will be required to get things done.. Usually this will just be players who have been playing together since the Mod (like my community) helping each other out and shooting outsiders.. There's nothing particularly wrong with this, as you still have people cooperating, and competition and rivalries arise, which brings a lot of action to the game.. keeps people playing if they're always trying to get one over on the competition. TLDR: Before you preach about fixing the game, realize it's the community that has the KOS problem, not the game.. then realize that in order to change the community you have to change yourself first, and inspire others through your actions.

how many of you would kill this player.
Etherimp replied to ososensual's topic in General Discussion
1 shot from a magnum = insta kill.. If you have the ammo, kill him and take his gun. If you do not have the ammo, try talking to him. -
Make drab/dark/green/camo clothing more rare?
Etherimp replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
funny... I avoid the green clothing because it is what everyone wears.. I prefer either a hero outfit (White check shirt + Bluejeans), black clothing (Black Cargo pants + Black Tactical Shirt), or Brown clothing (Brown Hunter Pants + Tan Tactical Shirt or Brown Hoodie). While bright colors DO stand out, there are plenty of non-military dark/drab colors in the game.. That said, I would like to see a greater variety of clothing and I wouldn't mind if they reduced the spawn rates of military camo by quite a bit.
