    Mosin 91/30 hit probabilities

I love when people come into Gews threads and start questioning/denying his findings.

    Utterly Disappointing

I stopped reading when you suggested a "skillful fire fight" should exist in DayZ. You're playing the wrong game. Counter-Strike -> That way

Sun Tzu - The Art of DayZ ?!?!

My last "hero" character died with a pristine copy of The Art of War, and a pristine copy of The New Testament. (I am not a religious man, IRL, but I like carrying the bible in game.. go figure.)

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

Thanks.. What drew me to this game was the necessity to interact with people.. As a straight up First Person Shooter where you run around killing everyone you see, this game is far too glitchy, unpredictable, and "open world" to be a competitive game.. Games like CS, Battlefield, and COD capture "competitive FPS" much better than ARMA or DayZ ever could. So, what's the point of killing people in DayZ? -It's (usually) not the gear.. Most of the people who kill others are already geared, or could obtain gear easier and with less risk by running to say, Berezino, rather than running to Elektro and getting into skirmishes with others. -It's (usually) not self-defense.. While this is sometimes the case, most people know damn well that they are in a hostile area by the sounds of gunshots and the fact that they CHOSE to walk into Elektro, Balota, or NWAF, etc. -It's DEFINITELY not to prove who is more skilled.. Most of the times I have died (from another player), it was from a player I didn't even see, or a player I did see but I was unarmed and unable to retaliate.. To prove one person is more skilled than the other you need some kind of contest. Whoever "wins" the contest is thus, "more skilled". In counter-strike or battlefield you are placed on the opposite side of the map from your enemy, and if you don't see the person who killed you, it was because they outplayed you. In DayZ, the map is too big and you're dealing with much longer ranges, so it's much easier for a player to sit on a hill way out of sight and pick off players at 400-800meters. There's no real "contest" there, as odds are the player getting shot won't get a chance to shoot back, and probably doesn't even know where he's getting shot from. So, how does this prove anything? If the situation were reversed, the results would probably be similar.. One person has a huge advantage in position. Games like CS and Battlefield depend upon positioning as well, but the choke-points and lines of engagement are much more clearly drawn, and thus a contest can ensue. The only answer I can come up with is that people are bored, unimaginative, and may THINK they are showing some level of skill by shooting randoms, and they may attempt to justify it in a dozen different ways, but it really just comes down to people being "hammers" and seeing every problem as a "nail". They lack the charisma, communication skills, or imagination/creativity to approach situations in a more entertaining way. Look up "DayZ The Green Avenger", on YouTube.. He has assumed the role of a character and is creating hilarious situations which are incredibly entertaining to watch, and I'm assuming, from his perspective, equally entertaining to partake in. Nothing is more fun than when you create a novel experience in the game. That's what DayZ has to offer. Novel experiences. It would be impossible to replicate something like The Green Avenger in Battlefield, because there's no room for that. It's either shoot someone, use a vehicle, help your team win, or get the fuck off the server. DayZ is the antithesis of this mentality, and people who don't come to terms with that are not only doing a disservice to the community but also to themselves, because they are reducing the entire premise of the game down to its most rudimentary. In the end, it doesn't matter whether you play as a survivor, a hero, a bandit, or something inbetween or completely off the wall. Hell, with each new life you could assume the role of any or all of those things depending upon the situation. I think it's fun to use the "random" character generation and just create a story out of each character, because like it or not, DayZ is best played as a sort of Role Playing game. Whether your role is persistent throughout all of your lives, or changes with each life does not matter.. The role doesn't have to be fantasy or supernatural or corny and silly.. but it could be.. You could be The Green Avenger, Defender of Elektro.. Or you could be a Baddie Bandit who ambushes people along the road, and robs them and sends them packing without their pants. Whether you kill people or not isn't the issue.. the issue is how much you make out of each experience. If I'm a fresh spawn and I get shot in the back of the head while I'm looting a body in Elektro, I won't remember that death or even care about it..But if I get held hostage, it's much more likely to leave an impression on me.. and likewise, I will never forget the hero that came down from NWAF, showed up in Kamenka, and handed me a free M4 as a fresh spawn, and offered me a bunch of goodies.. Not just because he was a nice guy, but because there was some interaction there. TL:DR - Make the most out of your experiences in game.. Odds are if you just KOS people, you won't remember half of them and they won't remember you.. Whether you kill someone or engage in an act of heroism, make your experiences memorable.. Make them count.

    The Hero

You have to have the cuffs in your hand, and you have to be near to them and then press "F" or Scroll wheel button. Pristine Cuffs will last a little while... maybe 2-5 minutes? Possibly longer if they do not struggle.. You can struggle by going on your knees or going prone, and wiggling back and forth.
  6. I've had it happen a few times as well.. not as bad as it used to be, but still happens. Another problem which really needs to be addressed (and along the same lines as this), is the delay between server/client with a lot of players on the server. 40 players 70 ping 0 desync Picking things up, opening doors, moving around stuff in your inventory.. takes..for...ever. HUGE delay. Makes the game nearly unplayable.

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

I shoot other players.. I just prefer to interact with players rather than playing a deathmatch. Sometimes those interactions result in a gunfight. Sometimes they result in a friendship. Usually the result somewhere inbetween. If you want a deathmatch there are plenty of other games to do that in. COD, Counter-Strike, Battlefield; to name a few. And, I've played several games competitively (In leagues) and won money at LAN tournaments. It doesn't take skill to shoot an unarmed player. It doesn't take skill to shoot a man in the back while he's running away. It doesn't take skill to snipe someone while they're looting from 400m away. Anyone can do that shit, so if anyone couldn't handle other FPS games, it's people who run around getting their dick hard by KOSing every player they see and pretending to be "hardcore KOS bandits".. The type of players who hang out all day near the coast picking on fresh spawns are the same type who get their asses royally handed to them in a heads up fair gun fight where both groups are armed equally. I can't tell you how to play.. Maybe you think it's fun to collect FlashLights off of fresh spawns.. Or maybe you're so bored with your day to day life that sitting on a hill in full camo with a sniper rifle and picking off 1 player every hour or so at the airfield is the highlight of your day, but I think I can speak for most people when I say: We're not impressed. For me, DayZ is about the player interactions.. It's about building a character from the ground up and gaining a reputation as a player or as a squad, where people on your "home" server know they can trust you and know when shit hits the fan you have their back. It's fun to get a small group of organized players and control the majority of the vehicles on the map, wipe out peoples bases, and lay the smack down on bandits in Elektro who pick on noobs.. It's fun running into a new person and communicating through the tension. It's fun taking people hostage and watching what kind of action emerges from a chance encounter. If I just shoot people on sight, then none of those things are possible. If there's any life lesson to be learned from DayZ, it's that possessions are meaningless without people to share them with, and that friends/allies are more valuable than resources.

What to do if robbed by proper bandits

HolyLance, that was an epic video.. Probably one of the smartest players I've seen in YouTube videos lately, and great action. Could have done without the intro, though.. The video stands on its own. No need to apologize for your language. This is an adult game. You could have had the last guy if you fired a second earlier, but I know how laggy the game is sometimes.. sometimes you're dead before the game registers you even got hit. Those guys had the worst reflexes, and the aim on them.. holy cow.
  11. I agree, and disagree.. I can't tell you how many times I have just started taking a drink or eating food or putting gas in a truck (in the mod), just to hear the "ARRRURRRR" sound of a zombie aggroing, and taking 3-4 hits before the animation was over. They should DEFINITELY add animation canceling. They should definitely repair some of the transition animations. They should possibly add some new animations to make transitions smoother Overall, it's the clunkiness of the animations and the fact that you can't stop them once started which makes it so painful to watch. If the transitions were a bit smoother and there were more animations going from 1 action to the next, and you could actually STOP those animations by canceling them with movement at any time, it would make a huge difference in how the game felt.

    Item degradation and hit detection

Everyone knows nobody goes to NWAF except server hoppers.. :P All the uber-l33t bandits are down in Elektro shooting fresh spawns.

And by mill about, you mean server hop for the l33test gear?

    Item degradation and hit detection

+1 for effort. So first, you accuse the game of catering to "Care-bearing", then you admit that it's alpha, and say you think it's game-breaking that gear is ruined even after most of the people in the thread have said that the damage to items inside of your inventory will PROBABLY be toned down, then you get all indignant when someone calls you out on your obvious whining. I won't be in the hippy circle. I'll be the one plopping a 7.62 in your cranium while you try to loot the ruined flashlight off that fresh-spawn you sprayed and prayed with your uber-l33t COD skills.

There are no good Dayz SA youtubers?

I am subscribed to Somaplays, on Twitch. He's a funny guy, although admittedly most of his game play seems to be running around looting and travelling long distances, although that may have changed recently..

You're a whining idiot. Sorry, but there's so much wrong with your post I can't even bother breaking it down. You sound like an entitled crybaby. Crying about killing people and NOT getting their gear.. Wow.. Just.. Wow. There is no such thing as "Care-bearing" in DayZ..
  17. Agreed.. Ballistic Helmets, Gas Masks, and Payday Masks..

The Mosin can't hit properly at a steep elevation?

Sigh.. You just keep going. Dude, it had NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS ZEROING.. It's a known bug. Go look at the Bug Tracker. He called you clueless because you're acting clueless. You obviously did not read the entire thread before posting. I tried both 50 and 100. It did not work. The fight lasted 5 minutes. If it had not been for the trees I would've died way sooner cause of the bug.

Now you're back-peddling. The problem was not his zeroing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xC4SITywbE Watch this. Frankie's videos are what got me to start playing DayZ, so I have no reason to accuse him of hacking.. I was once a fan. But unfortunately I cannot support a cheater, and this video convinced me he was indeed cheating. Also notice, Frankie never streams?

The Mosin can't hit properly at a steep elevation?

The OP is correct, and you are wrong.. and yet you're being confrontational and acting like a "know it all". 50 bucks says you've never even fired a gun IRL. I have experienced a similar issue where I was laying prone on a hill over-looking a town, and my M4 fired shots directly into the hill 1 inch infront of the barrel of the gun. In other words, the gun was "looking" into an object that was not visibly there. Originally I thought this was possibly due to my zeroing, but I adjusted it up and down, and the same result occurred. Get your facts straight before correcting someone, or you just look "VERY SILLY".

I'd rather watch a retarded RhinoCrunch than a cheating FrankieonPC any day of the week. At least Rhino is legit.

    Item degradation and hit detection

If you shot someone in the side of their head, the only thing that would be damaged is things on the side of their head... IE - Hat, Glasses, Gasmask, etc.. The reason their entire chest area was destroyed is because that is where you shot them. I have head-shot people before and had ONLY their head damaged, so I know this is true.. Can't speak to the "hit detection" argument, but I haven't had a problem with it. I kind of like the fact that items get destroyed if you kill someone. It forces you to try to interact with the player and rob them like a true bandit, rather than running around playing Call of Duty on a modified ARMA III Engine with a few zombies. If Loot is your goal, try player-interaction. If killing people is your goal, no loot for you.
