Why co-operate if you're gonna get shot anyways?
Etherimp replied to Goddam Firestations's topic in General Discussion
I love how people complain about KOS, and then when they actually don't get KOS'd and they get held up instead, they insist on fighting or running, which only encourages people to just KOS them instead of trying to hold them up. -
Can Someone Set Up A TeamSpeak 3 Server For My New Clan I Am Making Called "Team Stand Strong"?
Etherimp replied to 360Nation's topic in General Discussion
If you become regulars on AG's server, you can use their teamspeak infinitely. www.adrenaline-gaming.net Log onto the website, sign up for membership, and become a regular on their server located in Kansas. It's a 24/7 daylight server, regular difficulty. Rather large community with lots of different squads. -
A Saw fires 5.56.. hardly useful against a helicopter except for against door gunners... good luck hitting a moving heli, let alone the engine, with a CZ-550.. FN-Fal is good, yes.. Because it fires 7.62NATO and it has a fast fire rate.. DMR and MKMod also, but again..Good luck reliably hitting the engine..

I played on the 2nd most populated US vanilla server. Trust me, a good pilot doesn't get shot down. Noobs who auto-hover don't count. Over populated areas I fly too high and too fast to even hit.. Once we would find a target we would come in on a sweeping pass, fly low enough to spam the HMG at our target, then swoop out before taking too much retaliation fire. We would occasionally take some damage on our windscreen glass or rotor, but never would it shoot us down. The only weapon that even stood a chance against heli's in the mod was the MK48 Mod 0... And if we came across one of those we just scrammed. Even if one of our gunners get shot out.. It's a 1 minute trip back down to the coast to pick them up, then 1 minute back to where-ever.

The problem is.. If you have 1 heli, you have to have them all. There's no real good place to hide a heli, from another heli.. So if I get 1 heli, I have to get all 4 in order to control the map. The only thing that can reliably find a heli, is another heli.

No.. This was a pure vanilla server. I was one of the admins on it. It didn't even have the police car, or different versions of the military offroad. It was completely vanilla. It depends on what version of the game you were playing. Some of the vehicle and helicopter spawns were broken during certain patches. You may have played at a time when certain heli spawns were disabled/broken.

You can call me an abusive douchebag all you want. There's clearly nothing anyone is going to say that is going to change your mind. You want helicopters in the game. That's fine. Just don't join the server I'm a regular on, because my squad will have the helicopters and we will be abusive douchebags with them. We'll fly all over the map scooping up all of the unique loot spawns (heli-crashes).. We'll be the first ones to loot NWAF an whatever other high value military loot spots. We'll hunt down your camps and we'll destroy any vehicles you manage to obtain. Why? Because we're douchebags? No.. but because we're protecting our camp. If there are no vehicles on the map then nobody can find our camp. Our camp will be the biggest and the best on the server, and nobody will be able to touch it because we'll have eliminated any possible way for you to reach our camp other than by running 10k on foot. Think you're going to shoot me down? Think again. I log on in the middle of the night while you sleep, because I work nights.. I'll fly around with my night vision and raid the entire map while you sleep, then happily park my helicopter back in my protected base, so you have no idea what happened to your vehicle or your camps, or who did it.. This sounds fun to you? This sounds like you have a way to counter-play what I'm doing? Okay! Bring them on. I'd like to see you try it. Even if I do log on during the day on the weekends, you won't shoot me down. Know how many times I've been shot down on Vanilla? ZERO.. not ever. And I've flown over Elektro and cleared out sniper hill a few dozen times with door gunners. We get it! You love Heli's and you want them in the game! Cool! I love heli's too! Just don't come crying on the forums when people are "abusive douchebags" with something that you want in the game.

The server I played on was Vanilla, and in Vanilla the default # of Heli spawns was 4.. 1. Huey at Skalisky Island 2. Mi-17 at Devils Castle 3. Black Littlebird at Black Mountain 4. Silver Littlebird at NEAF.

(Sociology) Rocket: DayZ is Fundamentally Flawed, and I Agree - Here is Why.
Etherimp replied to kroms001's topic in General Discussion
I'm 34 and I'll put my reaction speed up against any 16 year old, any day of the week. The reason you don't see 34 year old pro-gamers is not because their reaction speed gets worse, but because most 34 year olds get married, have kids, have car payments, house payments, and full time jobs... Those things are not conducive to sitting around playing video games with your friends all day.- 83 replies

What is the counter-play to squads having helicopters? Admins shouldn't have to ban people or artificially destroy their goodies because they are using a viable and effective strategy that is emergent in the game... The game should provide a method of counter-play. So..Tell me.. What's the natural counter-play to a squad owning all the heli's and dominating everyone else with them? *edit* While not everybody would abuse helicopters, if you leave the potential there for abuse then abuse will happen, and it shouldn't be up to admins to control this. The counter-play should be within the game.. and with DayZ there is simply no counter to helicopters.. hence why I consider them "OP", and I use that term loosely. Keep in mind, we destroyed camps and vehicles, but we also used helicopters to help people. So don't make it out like every squad that has heli's is just a group of KOSing bandit assholes. I just know how it feels to be on both sides of the fence, and as much fun as I had in DayZ mod with heli's, I honestly don't think they're good (or necessary) for DayZ SA.

There was no flaw in my logic. A single helicopter provides a single group the ability to horde, locate, or destroy all the vehicles and camps on the map in a very short period of time. Know what happens when a new player joins a server, and they spend 8 hours with friends gathering all the necessary resources to repair a vehicle and set up a few camps out in the woods, just to have it all destroyed that very same night by an established group on the server that has access to a helicopter? They don't come back. They just wasted 8 hours and achieved nothing. You don't know if a hacker found your base or if it was that pesky squad of helicopter owning assholes. What good is hiding anything in DayZ just to have it destroyed the very same night? If 1 group controls all of the helicopters, there is no way to retaliate against them. Unless you literally run across the entire map on foot and search every nook and cranny, odds are you would not find our base.. It would take you HOURS upon HOURS of searching with no guarantee of success.. Then even if you do find it, it would take you more hours to steal all of it, unless you have a large group.. If it's just you, the only thing you can do is destroy most of it and take ..what.. 1 heli? Then what? Then my group comes on the next night, repairs a respawned heli, then hunts down the heli you stole and restarts the process again. I know that WAS DayZ.. but I don't think that is what DayZ SHOULD be. Helicopters are "overpowered".. They create a large rift between the power of an established group and the power of a fresh spawn. Before you have helicopters, even a DMR sniper with night vision can be taken out by a clever player with a Winchester. If you have a vehicle (such as an offroad), you have some advantage in mobility.. The ability to search for heli-crashes and camps is increased, but not dramatically so.. With a Heli, however, you can do everything all in 1 night without issue and you can do it completely unchecked.

That looks very similar to our base on US264, except I know it isn't because you have 2 Military Offroads there and 2 UAZ's, and there was only 1 available on US264.. We also had both White Offroads, the URAL, the V3S, and some other stuff.. Is that location somewhere around 002/083?
-
Personally I hope they don't add heli's. My squad and I had all 4 heli's on a public hive vanilla server.. We also had 8-13 land vehicles at any given time.. (all of the offroad/military vehicles, and a few ATV's). Nobody could find our base, and nobody could touch us.. We ran the server for about 4 months before someone betrayed us from within and C4'd all of our stuff. When we were bored we could fly around the entire map in a night and destroy every other base and/or vehicle on the map. Nothing was safe from us. Fun for us in the moment, yes.. But in the big picture, I don't think heli's belong in DayZ.

For the record, I am perfectly happy if people stow their weapon on their back as opposed to putting it down. -

Some people may bluff when they attempt to hold you up...some people may not be in a very good position. I have been playing the game long enough to know where to put myself in order to block off retreat or prevent them from escaping without great risk for themselves.. For example, I may trail them through a treeline, and wait for them to cross halfway through an open field.. Or maybe I'll wait for them to enter a building with only one exit..Just a few examples. In terms of missing.. Sure, everyone misses, because the weapons in the game are incredibly unreliable. That said, I played competitive CS for 7 years at a rather high level. It's rather unlikely that you're going to survive if I put my crosshairs on you with the intent to kill. That's not being a braggart.. It's just being honest. -

Because avatars are serious business.. It's a joke. Why does it have to be one or the other? Sometimes I hold up fresh spawns and give them stuff.. Sometimes I hold up someone who's moderately geared.. sometimes I hold up someone at NWAF.. How I treat them depends upon how they respond/react and where I meet them and what they're wearing/holding.. Obviously if the guy is wearing mostly civilian clothing and a taloon backpack, with a mosin on his back as he's running around, he's not much of a threat to me unless he pulls his gun, so I'm more than likely just going to say hi and treat him as a fellow survivor until he proves otherwise.. If someone is running around NWAF in full military gear, I will treat them more suspiciously. As far as "why hold up geared players?"... because if you're running around NWAF and I'm running around NWAF, I'd rather make sure you're not going to kill me.. Perhaps I have that Magpul buttstock you're looking for and you have found a Long Range scope that I am looking for.. Maybe you were recently injured and need assistance.. Maybe you were recently in a battle.. Maybe you ran out of food and need a few cans to hold you over. Just because people are geared doesn't mean they do not need help or that they would not like to trade items/information. I haven't told anyone what to do in game.. where did I do that? I also never pretended to be a "billy badass".. And I never retracted my "Stop or I will shoot you" statement. You have just assumed that is the whole of my persona and that there's no spectrum. You jumped into the conversation and immediately accused me of being a bandit when you only saw one little slice of my playstyle and extracted from that based on very little information. -

You're telling me who and what I am and what I do and how I conduct myself. As I explained above, these are not holdups down in elektro or along the coast.. They are usually in high value military spawns such as NWAF, Veresnik, Zelenogorsk, or Kamenka.. Sometimes NEAF. Holding someone who's in full military gear up and asking them to drop their weapon is not "bandit like", nor is it thuggish.. I still stand behind my statement that I will shoot someone if they fail to comply with my demands in these situations. If someone is fully military geared and I get the drop on them, if they don't drop their weapon they are likely not friendly. The misunderstanding here is that it seems SOME people have been ASSUMING that I am holding up people along the coast who are not nearly as geared as I am... Which simply isn't the case. If someone attempts to run away from you while you're holding them up at NWAF, the odds are they are attempting to flank you, or they are getting friends to move in on you. You simply cannot risk it in those situations. Obviously, I would not shoot a fresh spawn who had no gear if he ran away from me.. There have been many times where I've had something like this happen: -Walk near a fresh spawn/low geared player -Spoke out, "Hey man! I'm friendly over here.." -They run away.. -I say, "Guess they didn't want this bag of rice and FNX.... oh wells.. Next guy." -

I've had plenty of those kinds of interactions as well.. It's totally circumstantial. While I sometimes travel with a group of other players, I am often and usually a lone wolf. I played a lot of the mod and I know my way around the map. I know how to approach most high-traffic and dangerous areas without being spotted and in such a way that I am able to scout them thoroughly before entering.. In these areas, it's very common to run into highly geared players. MOST of these players are extremely dangerous and NOT friendly.. BUT, I do not want to shoot them on sight unless I have confirmation that they are indeed, up to no good. IE - Server hopping, combat logging, shooting others on sight, torturing fresh spawns, etc. In these scenarios, I will attempt to position myself in a way which allows me to hold them up with minimal danger to myself, but which puts them in a position they cannot easily escape from. I will announce my presence, like, "Hello, friendly player here.. Are you friendly?", from there, I base my next statements/questions on how they respond or if they respond at all. Usually it will go something along these lines.. "Yeah, I see you in X position. Please put away your gun and go to Y position so we can talk." If, from here, they do not put away or drop their weapon, and if they sound like sketchy people, then I will prepare for combat. This is not the kind of holdup that happens on the coast. We're talking about approaching people who have assault rifles and decked out in full military gear inside or around military bases. If you get held up at a military base, and I let you keep your weapon drawn, then I am just asking to get myself killed. No smart player would do that, no matter how friendly. -

All you've done since you've started posting in this thread is name-call and make accusations and assumptions about my character as a person. You've called me a bandit, a bully, a thug, and on many occasions insinuated that I am a liar and attempted to call me out on backtracking/double-talk that is simply a case of your own ignorance/misunderstanding. You're new here. You have about 48 posts, and probably 20% of those have been in this thread. I tried to explain how things were in the Mod to you, but you call that being on a "high horse". You obviously have a lot to learn about the game and rather than making a bunch of accusations and assumptions, you should sit back, lurk more, and try to understand why more experienced players (like Lone Regulator and myself) tend to do things in a way which you do not currently understand. Instead of making statements, why not try asking questions about our reasoning? Maybe if you came at it from a position of inquiry rather than condemnation, then you would better understand the kinds of circumstances we're talking about, because currently it's quite apparent that you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, and you're out of your element. -

You seem to have some serious problems with reading comprehension, and you like to twist peoples points around.. To answer your question: Yes, I have shot and killed many people without even interacting with them. For the following reasons: a. Combat loggers b. Server hoppers. (Witness people spawning into barracks/jails) c. Coast Campers.. IE - People sitting in Elektro/Kamyshovo/etc shooting fresh spawns. To answer your other question: No, I've never shot someone for running away from me when I held them up, because nobody has been stupid enough to try to run away. I did however shoot a guy who I TRIED to hold up, because he combat logged after I started talking to him. He ran off into a wooded area, I followed him, and he logged out (sat down and started doing the log out animations)... So I shot him in the head for being a combat logger. As far as shooting people who run away who DO NOT pose a threat: I already addressed that. -

Aww, I'm a thug and a bully for helping people? Yeah.. Makes a lot of sense. *sigh*.. It's okay, you'll learn eventually. Or, more than likely, you'll quit playing DayZ. When Dean introduces more infections and diseases, I'll remember that you don't like being helped by others because they're "bullying" you by forcing you to drop your fucking weapon before they approach you. Enjoy dying of infection. -

I don't understand this perception of the community you have.. Yes, there are a lot of scumbags out there. There are also a lot of players who are genuinely just having fun and are more than willing to help a stranger. I've had as many positive interactions as negative ones. I've never been handcuffed and fed disinfectant. I have been shot on sight many times, but as you get better at the game you get better at avoiding that, even though it's inevitable eventually. You take it with a grain of salt and move on. If you get held up, handcuffed, and tortured, it's more entertaining for everyone if you role-play your way through it and laugh it off, than it is to get all butt hurt and defiant about it.
