Because you're on an airfield.

Then why are you still here posting? I don't get some people... when I stop playing a game, I also stop posting on the forums.

M4.. For Close to medium range engagements you simply cannot outperform the M4 in terms of ammo + rate of fire. With proper attachments it's incredibly accurate and can be equipped with a RDS for close/Med range, or an ACOG if you want to engage targets between 200-700 meters. Yes.. I said 700 meters. Lower your FOV down, bipod out, lay prone, and snipe people with an ACOG M4.. It works. Simply put, the M4 is just more versatile. For close range: M4 > SKS > Sporter/Shotgun > Double Rifle > Mosin for Med range M4 > SKS > Double Rifle > Mosin > Sporter > Shotgun For long range Mosin > M4 > Double Rifle > SKS > Sporter > Shotgun

I'll make you drop your gun.. The only choice you have in the matter is whether you're breathing or not when it hits the ground. ;) I think this is a problem a LOT of newer players have in this game, actually.. Most people who play FPS's are accustomed to name tags, clearly marked targets, red/blue dorito's floating over someones head, or some other indication of the target.. DayZ has none of this, so it takes quite a while for people to adjust to the graphics engine and the way targets look. Furthermore, the eye is attracted to bright colors and movement, AND to make matters worse, the way gun-shots sound in the game currently makes it rather difficult to determine exactly which direction they came from, at times. So, he probably thought he heard the gunshots from a specific direction and mentally blocked out the possibility of you being where you were..And he was probably newish to the game. Either way, sounds like a fun interaction. I had one tonight at NWAF on Experimental, where I was walking up to the ATC, and someone from the veranda fired 2-3 shots from his SKS at me.. I saw him for a brief moment, moving along the veranda, then he ducked back inside... I hugged the wall to the ATC and said, and I quote "Well, that wasn't very nice.." Waited a few moments... Nothing. "You see, if we keep this up.. One of us is going to die... If you talk to me, I might be able to understand that you just panicked and accidentally fired off a few rounds in fear." Waited another moment.. nothing.. "Okay, the way I see it is, you're trapped, and I have the entire airfield to shoot you from. Did you happen to see what I was carrying on my back? Mosin's are deadly at long range... The question now is whether or not you can hit me enough to kill me before I make it to cover." Still nothing.. so I got ballsy and walked up the stairs.. he was nowhere to be seen. He took cover and logged out. :\

You consider CS a twitch shooter? In my 20+ years of gaming, I've always considered CS an "arcadey tactical shooter", where as Doom/Quake/Unreal were "twitch shooters"..

Melee is now a Joke in Experimental- Fists more effective then Fire-Axe
Etherimp replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Gotta agree on this gripe.. just played some Experimental, and it was taking as many hits to kill zeds with the Axe as it normally does with a baseball bat or crowbar. Rather frustrating when you're navigating through a dangerous area, like NWAF. -
Duly noted on the music, However, Gramatik is a "Digital Freedom" advocate, which means he gives his music away for free and does not hunt YouTube users down for violating "copy rights".. And he happens to be an artist I enjoy. I knew it wouldn't be for everyone, so there's a certain risk in including any kind of music unless it's just a mellow background. Some people are going to be like "OMFG DOPEST TRACK EVER", and others are going to turn it off as soon as they hear it. (Even a friend of mine did this.) So, yeah, it is what it is... Sorry it wasn't your thing. :) In regards to people respawning: I don't like it any more than you do... I actually hate it because it makes it so you can't tell the difference between a genuine bambi, and some A-hole trying to run back to his gear after you just killed him for shooting legit fresh spawns. That said... I forgive myself in this case considering one of them KOS'd me, and I WAS a legit fresh spawn when he did so... and there were 4 of them pretty well geared and running around Berezino shooting on sight. Since I was one of their victims, I felt vindicating in knocking that blue backpack guy the fuck out. ;)

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Etherimp replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Because desync and hacking don't look the same? edit: also worth noting, while you cannot prove someone is using ESP, VAC and BE ban in waves, so rest assured, a good percentage of people who are using cheats will eventually be eliminated from the game completely. -

Etherimp replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
No. What I am saying is that the amount of hackusations is not proportional to the amount of actual hacks in the game. I have been accused on these very forums of having a speed hack because I knocked out a geared player who was experiencing desync. I'm also saying that unless you have PROOF of cheats you should not be complaining about cheats because it serves no purpose other than you bitching about the game which does no good for anyone. If you truly see hackers so much maybe you should start recording your gameplay. As I said, in over 430 hours in have personally witnessed nothing that I could CONFIRM as a definite hack. I have seen video proof however and I have heard complaints from reliable friends. So I am not denying that hacks are out there, only that people whom claim to see hacks A LOT in only 100 hours of play time are probably just bad at the game and call everything hacks. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Etherimp replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, this stuff "happens".. "invisible people" I have encountered, and we've all seen teleport hackers... Ever seen an aimbot? Have any proof of one? Didn't think so. -
Sure did.. I was also surprised the guy at the water-pump survived 2 full shots from a shotgun. :\ \

Any way to raid a military jail with armed people in it?

In that case, my bad. :) -

Etherimp replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
How exactly do you know someone aimbotted you? Hmm? How can you prove that? Aimbots are not nearly as common as people think. No-recoil is much more common than an aimbot, and there's no real way to be sure of that either.. so be careful when you start accusing people of "aimbotting". Also, ESP is out there, and it's possible, and I've suspected people of using it, and I've caught several people in DayZ Mod using it when I was an admin of a server.. they would log in, run directly to the nearest vehicle (usually a bike), then drive directly to someones base where they were storing helicopters.. But I've never been able to "confirm" someone is using it on DayZ SA, and honestly neither can you unless you have video evidence from their perspective. So, stop with the hackusations. Just makes you sound like a noob in any game. -

I have 438 hours played, mostly on populated servers, and have seen ZERO CONFIRMED HACKERS. Seen tons of combat loggers (before the fix, and some after) Seen tons of dupers. Seen tons of exploiters (hiding inside of walls, etc) Been killed 2-3 times right after logging in under "suspicious" circumstances... But nothing I can CONFIRM as definite hacking. For those of you who claim to see hackers "all the time", you're either extremely unlucky, or extremely bad. . . and I don't believe in luck, so read between the lines. Wanna see a game infested with hackers? Go back to DayZ Mod.... And yes, even on private hives, because the fact is most private hive servers are owned and operated by 14-17 year old kids. Good luck. -

Etherimp replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
It worries me that you give a flying fuck that other people play on 3rd person servers. You like 1st person. That's cool. There's nothing wrong with that.. and if DayZ went to 100% 1st person on all servers I wouldn't complain. I would actually be a bit excited about it. Buuuuut.. being so overtly hostile toward 3rd person servers and the people who play on them just makes you look kind of like an ass. -
Not me. Never played COD.. Never had any interest in it. Looked like a shitty version of Battlefield/Counter-strike to me.

Easy. Have 1 or more people outside watching the windows from good vantage point. Have another breach the front with an m4. If you are a good shot and cooperate with your teammate you put them at a disadvantage and turn their camping spot into a tomb. -
Best sniping spot on the airfield.. Used it all the time in the Mod. Also, unbind "hold breath" from your mouse2 key. And, just "cut" out scenes that are unnecessary rather than fast-forwarding. Will keep your video more to the point. Would also be cool if you showed exactly where you hit each body (by looking at their damaged clothing), and included some kind of text indicator on your screen to show when it was a headshot or not. In my videos I do "whiff!" for a miss, "HIT" for a hit, and "BOOM HEADSHOT!" with an audio file for headshots. Overall, nice shooting.

A couple of clips ... 2 of my more recent "friendly" encounters. There's a lot of debate on these forums about the "KOS" playstyle vs being "friendly". The reality is.. Every player has a choice how he wishes to enter a scenario and how he expects it to end. If you run around assuming everyone is your enemy, then you will never have the opportunity to meet friendly players. But if you play intelligently and decide when someone is a threat, or not, meanwhile covering your own ass, it's wholly possible you can interact with other armed players without bloodshed. I'm not a hero. I'm not a bandit. I am a man.. There is a monster inside of every man, and it stirs when you put a gun in his hand. Sometimes that monster is needed. You'll see that in the next episode. But in this episode, we have the opportunity to make an ACTUAL FRIEND, THROUGH THE GAME, BECAUSE WE DIDN'T SHOOT HIM. Enjoy! :D

When the game was first released, there were too many Southwest spawns.. Now there are too many Northeast. They just need to balance it. As far as SA being boring.. SA is what you make it. If it was boring to you, it's because you're boring. I've been playing it since release day and am still entertained by it. Perhaps running around KOSing everyone you see was the problem; not the game.

What stage of post apocalypse is dayz at
Etherimp replied to ld-airgrafix's topic in General Discussion
"DayZ" stands for "Day Zero"... but not Day Zero of the infection, just "Day Zero" of your survival in the apocalypse. This is taken from the mod.. When you first spawn in, text types up on the bottom of your screen that says "Day 0".. Next day you log in, "Day 1", etc.. As far as how long after the initial outbreak.. It's probably a month or two. The military has all either extracted or died. All civilians (aside from survivors) are dead. "Survivors" are people who have washed up on shore after a ship/helicopter/plane wreck. As far as why vehicles are rusted/busted up.. This is a coastal city. Salt-water does horrible things to vehicles and it doesn't take too incredibly long, especially if they sit in one place without shelter or maintenance. Aside from that, who's to say the rusting didn't start before the infection/outbreak? Chernarus is not a particularly wealthy area. -
I don't see how that is a problem... Right now, everyone spawns east, so everyone runs to the high-value loot spawns on the east.. IE - Berezino, Svet, and NEAF.. Of course, not as many attachments and military loot, but with as few guns as are in the game, it hardly matters.. You can find an M4 or a Mosin in any of those cities. The only difference is you can only find scopes/attachments at NEAF, where as Balota has a higher quantity of spawns. But with that comes more risk... Currently, everyone just dukes it out in the NE area.. If they spread the spawns around the map more, people will not be able to run back to their bodies as easily. Recently I got into it with a 4 man clan in Berezino, and I literally made them all log out because I kept respawning right back into the thick of things.. First guy I shotgunned, second guy I KO'd with fist, then stole his M4 and killed his friend with it.. Stole a Mosin with a LRS and killed another guy with it.. Died and came back and kept harassing these same 4 guys with their own weapons. They had it coming, yes.. But it was pretty lame that I just kept spawning in the same spot over and over. Also lame that there are squads of 2-6 guys in full military gear running around Berezino because it's virtually the only place on the map where people actually go now. At least when there were spawns in Kamenka/Balota/Cherno, you had the entire west side of the map to loot and the encounters were spread out more. Granted, Balota was still the hot spot, but it wasn't nearly as densely populated as Berezino now seems to be. I vote they spread the spawns all across the coast, how the mod was.. Kamenka, Kamarovo, Balota, Cherno, Pik Kozlova, Prig, Elektro, Kamyshovo, Three Valleys, Solnichniy, Berezino, Rify, Svet, and Novy Sobor. This way the action is spread out and you ALWAYS have to be on your toes, and likewise, sometimes you will get a really good spawn and sometimes you will get a really shit spawn, but at least it will make it interesting.
-
There's a balance to survivability and action. If you follow the "silk road" between Balota and NWAF on a populated server, odds are you will run into people... and they'll likely be geared. Things get hairy/lame in Berezino/Elektro because it's hard to tell the difference between true fresh spawns who are innocent, and fresh spawns who are attempting to run back to the body of the guy you just killed who was indiscriminately killing fresh spawns.

According to what? Because I can tell you from experience there is.

Nope. There's definitely kinetic energy loss. Hitting an object, ricocheting, or firing over long distances will result in the bullet losing velocity and thus energy and damage will be reduced. All of this is "ported over" (so to speak) from the Arma3 engine. Watch the following video for some great examples of how it works. Here's another.. This one for DayZ. Yes, even with 7.62. A direct shot to the head will result in the item being destroyed and the damage being transferred to the head and thus, result in unconsciousness/death. A glancing shot MAY destroy the helmet and bounce off, doing minimal damage. Unfortunately I do not have the "proof" of this on-hand, but as far as I know it's been confirmed.
