    Surviving Day 1 in DayZ

The best way to get healthy is to find a bag of rice, "eat all", then drink until hydrated and/or full.. Rice and maybe a few small food stuffs should get you well into "energized" territory, but as stated above, it dehydrates you, so it's always better to eat first, then drink, so you avoid becoming too "full" off of water, and unable to eat to the point you need to be. If you can't find rice, Dried milk is the next best.. Followed by Cereal. Dried milk is great once you get energized because it only takes up 1 inventory spot and it's the biggest bang for your buck. Also, canned foods such as beans and sardines are a good balance of energy/hydration. Beans being the better of the canned variety. Fruits and vegetables are okay to hold yourself over but it would be very difficult to live on them alone. Your first aim should be to get Energized/Hydrated, and once "full", do not carry food in your inventory except for maybe 1-4 canned foods for backup, along with a canteen. Always keep at least 1 full canteen, because you dehydrate faster than you go hungry. As far as finding your location, and dealing with Zeds.. 1. Zeds can be dealt with easily with any melee weapon including fists.. Simply side strafe to the right and swing at head level to the left.. The zombies cannot hit you as long as you are side-strafing. 2. Do not engage zombies inside of buildings. Do not begin using an "action" or distract yourself with looting while there are active zombies about. 3. There are landmarks which can tell you your general location/area on the map. For example.. Berezino = Large, spread out, has a long dock area, police station, apartments, and it's the only place on the map with 2 grocery stores. Solnichny = Has a quarry in the western hillside, and a factory to the north. Elektro = Has 2 firestations, 1 which is at a powerplant. Cherno = Has a large industrial area, a powerplant on the west side of town and a construction area on the east.. Stary Sobor = Has a large red industrial barn on the southish side of town by some barns, and has a sister city "Novy Sobor" which is slightly smaller, has a church, and a large grouping of industrial buildings. Rify = The ship. Svetlojorsk = The new town in the far north, built on the coast and somewhat of a mountain town.. North of Rify, East of North East Airfield. Just a few off the top of my head.. Study the online map thoroughly and you will begin to get an idea of what things look like. You can pull it up by pressing Shift+tab in game, then typing "www.dayzdb.com" in the browser.. Some people may consider this "cheap" or "meta", and if wish to explore and learn on your own that is your choice, but if you ever get lost and are frustrated, you may want to use it as a last resort. Compass and map combined can be used to great effect by a clever person.
  2. I would quote all of the things you've said on the second page here, but I'll just go from this.. I agree. But it's not just a trait learned in the military (although that's an intense form of it)... I learned how to stay calm under pressure in competition. Swim meets when I was a boy, martial arts tournaments later on, Quake II and Counter-Strike competitive matches/tournaments/lans, Age of Empires III high rated matches, WoW Arena high rated matches, etc. The first time you are matched up against the #1 rated opponent and you're an underdog, and you have so much to prove, that can get the adrenaline pumping, make your hands shake, make your heart pound, etc.. But when you've played against (in any competition or sport) the best in the world then no matter what happens something clicks in the back of your head that says "I've been here before." I think part of the military training is just that... TRAINING.. Putting people in situations they are not used to or comfortable with and telling them repeatedly what to do in those situations and make them act it out.. That way, when the shit hits the fan the person falls back on their instincts and that training comes out. When we were running hip-throw drills in Karate, it seemed rather boring.. I never understood why we had to do it so many times or for an entire class, until I was about 14 and a kid put me in a surprise choke hold from behind. Without thinking or hesitating I threw him over my shoulder. The guy was a body-builder and a wrestler, and in that instant he was completely embarrassed and humiliated in front of the whole class.. But he took it in stride and wanted to learn, so a would-be-bully ended up becoming a friend. Point being, all that training came into play and there was no hesitation and no fear because I had been there before. And on that note: Try different play styles out and find a good group to run with.. The only way you learn something is by doing it... the more you do it the more comfortable it becomes.

Removing spawns is making this game bad

    Yeah. I like this.

Removing spawns is making this game bad

I dunno. That man dies repeatedly?

Removing spawns is making this game bad

Punish suicides with a timer of some sort.. or just force them to keep respawning in the same place if they die within .. oh.. say.. 10 minutes of spawning.

There you go again not answering questions and just avoiding the issue. This is the "discussion forums". Maybe you should look up the definition of discussion.

Removing spawns is making this game bad

You didn't answer my question. Nobody is arguing the reality that you spawn where the devs decide you spawn and deal with it. I disagree however that where you spawn is irrelevant. The game being "tuned to draw players inland" has nothing to do with spawn points and everything to do with where "exclusive" loot is.. IE - Nightvision being only at heli crashes, certain guns only being at barracks, etc. So, you think everyone should just keep spawning around Berezino or not?

Removing spawns is making this game bad

So on a 225 sq km map you think we should all just spawn in and around Berezino like it is now, is that what you're saying? *I* personally do not believe spawns should be random.. But I do think they should be spread out along the coast from Kamenka -> Komorova -> Balota -> Factory -> Cherno -> Pik Kozlovo -> Elektro -> Kamyshovo -> Three Valleys -> Solnichney -> Niznoye -> Berezino -> Rify -> Svet All told, the game could have 15-20 different spawns spread across the coastline and it would solve the Berezino deathmatch as it is now.. While right now there's 100% chance Berezino is going to be occupied, with 20 spawns spread along the coast, any given near-by town is about 50-75% likely to be occupied. Edit: 1k posts. Wee.. I'm a nerd.

That's not at all what he said. Please come back when you have a fundamental grasp of reading comprehension and the language you're reading. You either completely twisted his words (malicious), or you lack said reading comprehension. Which is it.. Are you attempting to intentionally fuel an argument, or are you just dense?

WHY are the big buildings not big?

The doorways are still too small.. Backpacks aren't an excuse. I have problems getting in and out of rooms (in the school) as a fresh spawn.
  11. Etherimp

WHY are the big buildings not big?

The school especially is difficult to even move in.. the hallways and doorways are so tiny it's like moving around in a building made for midgets, where you often get stuck in a door and can't escape without some difficulty.

WHY are the big buildings not big?

I actually agree with this.. School/Office building, doesn't matter.. The office building/school is small. The hospital especially, is small.. Even when considering the hallways/rooms which are blocked off, I would really like to see ALL of the rooms in all of the buildings be enterable.. There should be no "unenterable" buildings. Even if it took an axe or other method of entry to open the door/window, there should be a way to enter. 1. It's more realistic 2. It's more immersive. 3. It adds more tactical options. (Hiding spots, escape routes, ambushes, etc) 4. There's no reason not to do it, other than laziness. (Not saying the Devs are lazy.. they are plenty busy.. Just that in the future it would be a nice addition and it wouldn't cost them anything but time, and it would add a lot to the game.) ) Before you foo-foo this post, go back and play DayZ mod where only a handful of buildings can be entered.. Now go to a town like.. Oh I dunno... MSTA or Staroye.. See how boring/lame it is, then go to the same town in DayZ SA and notice how much more it feels like an actual town that you can explore/loot.
  13. Mic is less than 1 foot from my face, and it's a Yeti Blue $130 microphone. You are the ONLY PERSON who has had ANY problem hearing me speak. I can hear my voice fine even when playing it back on my Android phone. Maybe you need a hearing aid, or to turn up your volume, like I suggested.

    play style shaming...

Make no mistake, I am what you make me.
  15. Update: I have Chapter 2 planned out, it will be released the week of, or the week after the new Standalone patch is released to stable.
  16. DayZ mod doesn't have priest outfits.. Epoch and all other mods of the mod are abominations and do not accurately represent DayZ any more than DayZ accurately represents ARMA.
  17. You're so right... ...when will your AAA title go on sale? I'll be your first fanboi.
  18. DayZ epoch is not dayz. I love dayz vanilla servers. Maybe dayz just isn't right for you. Doesn't mean its not relevant for others.
  19. Etherimp

    Helicopter crashsites

That was a script that was added to the Mod. It wasn't in the "official DayZ vanilla" game.
  20. Etherimp

Is this seriously the whole game?

Why is it when anyone defends the game it automatically makes them fanbois? Maybe some of us are just mature adults with reasonable expectations? Maybe some of us just understand that if this game isn't entertaining for you, you should skip the forums and go straight to another game? Maybe some of us realize that when people come posting unreasonable and non-constructive posts on the forums, it's because they're looking for attention rather than actual solutions? Maybe some of us realize that the majority of the modern gamers are entitled little bitches who complain about everything? When there are reasonable complaints to be leveled at the game, I will be the first to go to the Bug Tracker and post a problem, or even discuss possible solutions on the forums or Reddit or AMA's.. But I don't spam the forums making it sound like an echo-chamber of petulant demands and whining. To be completely honest, I haven't played much DayZ SA since the last patch, because there are a lot of problems and not a lot for me to do at the moment... but I've also put ~500 hours of non-stop game play in since release, and as soon as the next patch comes out I will be excited to play again. Until then, I don't really feel like dealing with the rubber-banding on experimental, so I am playing Insurgency and FTL and focusing on my youtube and doing productive shit with my life... like cooking and working out and reading. See how that works? There's a problem, so I don't play the game, I find other things to do, rather than coming to the forums throwing temper tantrums. People who whine on forums are bored, looking for attention, looking for an argument, or all 3.

Know what I find sad? You posting on the forums for a game you don't even fucking play. Go make some friends. Furthermore, what you may not understand is that DayZ vets are glad kids like you are too ADHD to play this game. We enjoy the peace and quiet.
