So, a buddy and I were on a server this morning with 8 people online (6 others), I started around Factory (Solnichney), made my way up and looted Berezino, then NEAF.. We then met up, travelled west through Kraz and over to Devils Castle, and ended up at NWAF.. Came up behind the firestation from the East (Grishino). I had a Mosin with a Long Range Scope, so I took up sniper watch on the tower of the Firestation, while he looted the airfield and I gave him cover... Then it happened. "You are dead." -My buddy did not hear any shots. -He checked my body and ALL of my gear was in the same condition (Pristine/Worn). -There was no blood coming out of my body. -I was on the top level inside of the firestation when I was alive.. My body was found on the lowest section of the roof, outside of the tower. Normally when you die to fall damage, you take item damage.. No damage to items is strange indeed, and seems to indicate that there was some other source of my demise. This has happened to me and others before, and every time it seems to happen while inside a building on the 2nd or higher level.. The 3 times I've witnessed it happening has been: On top of the school, on inside the ATC, and inside the fire station. Anyone else have any information to contribute? I am going to write a bug report. I will include screenshots and a link to the bug page here. Here is the bug report. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=5169 Here are some screen shots. (View the different SS's in the album, not all pertain to this issue.) http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197991872928/screenshots/?appid=221100

Fully finished Mod game? The Mod was never fully finished. Furthermore, I am not comparing the graphics or even really complaining about the bugs. Hackers? Mod had those. Glitchy PVP? Mod had that. Bug laden game engine? Mod had that. Lag/Desync? Mod had that. And yet, somehow, the mod was more rewarding/satisfying. Not saying it still is... I'm done with the mod, too. IF you think DayZ SA being full release is going to address the failure of certain core game mechanics or is going to remove hackers from the game, I think you'll be realllly pissed off when you figure out how much time you wasted hoping in one hand and shitting in the other.

Because DayZ is dead. What was fun about the mod? There were TONS of zombies and while they were easy to dispatch in small numbers if you were inside of a building, you could also get cornered in many buildings and be forced to draw a weapon, which would attract more zombies.. Any stray hit from a zombie could cause you to become infected.. Infection meant you needed antibiotics. Antibiotics were extremely rare. There were only a few places you could even find them (namely, hospitals and crash sights, as well as a few spawns which had them VERY rarely.).. Infection meant anybody could die at any time if they were not extremely careful, and since not everybody on the server could always have anti's, people needed other people.. People would betray one another for antibiotics, to extend their own survival if possible.. It was often necessary to give bloodbags.. Low hunger/thirst, a bunch of small hits, a gun fight, a few unfortunate swipes from a zombie... All could leave you blurry and grey scale and reduce your chances for survival.. If you couldn't get enough food to bring your blood levels up high enough, you needed a blood bag.. Blood bags were not extremely rare, but you actually needed other players to give them to you.. This along with infection/anti-biotics forced player interactions. Also, ONLY NWAF had barracks and the best weapons/items in the game ONLY spawned at NWAF.. The best backpacks could only be found at NWAF, Heli crashes, Stary Sobor, Balota, or NEAF.. This forced people away from the coast if they wanted the best gear.. Being forced away from the coast meant finding a vehicle was extremely useful. Vehicles were hard to get.. This gave people objectives.. Made people group up in order to search for tires/engines/fuel tanks/fuel/glass.. Meanwhile trying to keep themselves fed and hydrated and avoid getting cornered by zombies or spotted by bandits.. The end game WAS making it to NWAF, getting geared, finding tents, etc. Nobody trusted bandits to give them blood or antibiotics.. Heroes were, but heroes were often betrayed by survivors.. Survivors could either be your next best friend or turn into your worst enemy.. Bandits would often only hang with other bandits and create small groups to hunt survivors and/or heroes (and/or bandits..) Vehicles were fairly rare, and difficult to maintain.. Same with Heli's.. Which meant groups/players who had those items were targets and/or gained some foothold on the server.. Camps gave people reasons to seek out additional supplies and allowed people to drop off valuables (such as antibiotics and rare guns) so they could go on raids to high population density areas. These things made DayZ fun: Community, player interaction, challenge, rivalries. DayZ SA has very little of any of these. Combine that with rampant hackers, bugs, glitchy PVP, server crashes, client crashes, and you have a game which is frustrating to play while offering very little reward for actually playing. Odds are if you spend 4 hours gearing up, you'll just get shot by a teleporting script kiddie. After 900+ hours of playing StandAlone, I just can't justify it anymore. I tried signing in again tonight, and found it intolerable.. Low FPS, laggy animations/movement, unrewarding/unpredictable PVP.. There's virtually no skill involved in the PVP.. DayZ is basically a grief engine. It attracts people who just want to ruin another persons day. It's become a slow version of Call of Duty.. Everyone Most people just want to run around making other people feel bad, either by KOSing them, torturing them, or taunting/name calling them. Most PVP = People server hop or dupe or hack to get gear, then they run around high pop areas with lots of fresh spawns/low geared players, and shoot them while they can't defend themselves.. Either by sniping them, shooting them in the back, or having a full squad of guys geared with AK's spraying down low-geared players. None of this requires skill.. There's no stats, leaderboards, and no end game, so there's literally no way to know who's good or who's a bad player.. This means there's no incentive to actually get "good" at the game.. Being "good" just means you're more geared or more adept at shooting people in the back, avoiding people, or finding the best sniper spot to pick off a few people, then combat logging before people hunt you down. And don't get me started on the community... Honestly, right up there with World of Warcraft for most psychotic, sociopathic, and narcissistic community on the internet.

What has been your biggest "I'm done" moment?
Etherimp replied to aquamonkey's topic in General Discussion
1. Hackers 2. Servers crashing 3. Client crashing = Time to take a break until they fix it.. Which is sad, 'cause I love this game.. On the plus side, I'm getting much better at ArmA III and CS:GO! -
You're welcome, Fuck Nuts.

I didn't find evidence of an unknown hack. I found proof of a hackers name and got his GUID and IP.. This is not a hackusation. This is not "zomg I got killed by ze hacker plox fix game".. This is: I have proof. His name. His info. Any server admins who do not want this hacker possibly joining their server, feel free to ban.

I'm looking for a private hive server in the US (Preferably West/Central) that is actually active (has players regularly), that doesn't have ridiculous rules. Anyone? (I've already checked the servers thread.. most of them are UK/AU servers or the server itself is consistently low pop.)

Mosin + Sawed off.. Long range, spot someone first? Lay prone with mosin and wait until they stop ... Fire, dead. You get shot first? Arm broken? Being sniped at? Np... Bust out that Sawed off, run and gun into close range and blast dat foo. Someone camping a military jail in Zeleno with a group of their friends? No problem.. Snipe through the windows and have them scurred, and hiding in corners... Then open the door from the side and peek with the sawed off, blast that foo corner peeking you, then tell them to come out with their hands up or feel the wrath of your boom stick. 90% of the time, they combat log.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Etherimp replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Hasn't this topic been beaten to death already? Here's the reality -keyboard warriors on the forums and reddit claim 1st person is all they play, and yet 3rd person servers are packed 24/7 while 1st person servers often struggle to be fully populated despite the fact that there are far less 1st person servers. -Streamers and youtubers play 3rd person almost exclusively. -Stream viewers prefer 3rd person (as 1st person is less entertaining to watch.. for some reason.) -Driving vehicles (and especially flying helis) would be a complete pain in the ass in 1st person. -Playing 1st person doesn't make you a "better player" nor is it "easier".. It's just a different set of skills. -
~1000 hours logged in DayZ SA. Over a year in DayZ Mod. (Was a hero with 11k humanity) I play mainly friendly, but still manage to PVP.. (a lot..) Ask me anything.

Most servers should be persisting now afiak. Yes, tents should persist after you log. Benefit of a tent is a large amount of storage space that will not be cleaned up (ie-deleted from server once persistence is more fleshed out.) Fishing = ashwood stick + rope = fishing pole Fishing pole + hook = fishing pole w hook Shovel or hoe on dirt/grass = worms Fishing pole with hook + worms = baited fishing pole Take baited fishing pole to water (ponds) and scroll to get option to fish. When you see the prompt say you have something then scroll and select "check line" I forget all the exact verbiage but its pretty self explanatory. Get firewood by using an axe on a tree or bush.

1. Rangefinders + battery *2. Map + string + knowing where you are. 3. Dayzdb.com has a simple range finding tool. Personally I do not use it but it is simpler than method 2 which I will explain. *- find map. Find where you are on map (point a) Find where you which to shoot on map (point b) Hold a length of string from point a to point b, placing your thumbs at each point. Move the string so point a thumb is at the cross of 4 gridpoints. Hold the rest of the length along that axis and count the grids between point a and b. Every grid is 100 meters (when zoomed in) If you get approximately 430, for example, then set zero to 400 and aim slightly over head. If you get 480, set to 500 and aim at chest. You can also just eye it on the map without using the string method. Every square is 100 meters. From corner to opposite corner diagnolly is ~135 meters.

Tell your bartender/wife/girlfriend to pour it in a glass for you. (Someone else beat me to it)

Yes. Between .49 and .51 temperature and season have been tweaked and changed around considerably. I would recommend carrying 1 waterproof set of clothing. (Gorka, raincoat, etc) and 1 light shirt (check shirts, tactical shirts, etc) Wool coats and such are heavy and warm but not water resistant, and wetness is one of the major ways you'll get cold.

Blaze > Sporter at >50 meters. The sporter needs a mag, Blaze doesn't. Therefor, I will always pick up a blaze before a sporter and I won't drop my blaze to pick up a sporter and even if I had a mag for a sporter and came across the blaze, I would probably take both rather than drop my Blaze. I'd use Blaze for opening shots then switch to sporter if they attempt to close in range or if I missed and they're already within 50m. Blaze kills or knocks unconscious with 1 shot on center mass... Sporter you need to hit a headshot or spray relentlessly until they die. Center mass is a much easier target than someones head. Shotguns are limited to approximately <50 meters... much like the Sporter. Don't get me wrong, I love the shotguns, but outside of 50 meters, they're almost worthless. Inside of 50 meters, they're amazing. Probably your best bet for close quarters. (As it should be). The CZ is shit. It's outperformed by the SKS is every way. SKS is just as if not more abundant. The ammo is the same. SKS carries more rounds, doesn't require a magazine, has faster ROF, similar range, capable of mounting a PU Scope which improves its effective range, and the "dexterity" (for what it's worth), is just fine. Dexterity only really matters within 10 meters or so. Anything beyond that and dexterity isn't even a factor. If you need a weapon to handle freshies running circles around you, carry a sawed off shotty or a pistol. Mosin has it's place as an effective medium to long range bolt action rifle. SKS is jack of all trades, master of none.. Pretty much a well rounded weapon. A "workhorse". It CAN do everything but isn't superior to all other weapons in any specific way. M4 is superior to other Assault rifles due to its versatility more than anything else.. 2x Red dots, ACOG, 2 different Iron sights, great ROF, decent range, good accuracy if outfitted properly with magpul parts. The only area in which it lacks is damage and availability. I've got kills with the Sporter and I enjoy using it, because it's fun.. But it really isn't "superior" to the Blaze.. You could argue that in your OPINION you LIKE it better, and that's fine.. That's what makes the 2 weapons balanced.. They both have advantages and draw backs. I just feel the sporters draw backs aren't worth it.
-
No. That's not what dexterity does. It doesn't impact your mouse speed. It caps your turning speed while aiming. I don't know a better way to explain this so you'll either have to trust me or test it or look up material that I'm too busy and lazy to provide currently. IMO - damage, rate of fire, magazine capacity, reload speed and effective range/moa should be most heavily weighted.
-
No. Dexterity does not effect every situation where you have to aim around. Only situations where you have to turn your character around quickly while aiming. IE - close range. Dexterity does not increase your mouse speed, it just limits how quickly you can turn while aiming. As long as you move your cross hair within the limits of your dexterity then it doesn't affect you at all. Furthermore, all weapons are heard by zombies at the same range - even the amphibia. 100 meters. Im pretty sure any player audible range is only perceived at this point as you can hear sporters from hundreds of meters away. Lastly - I can use the m4 with iron sights just fine up to 400 meters. No acog necessary. As I said - some of your logic is flawed in your initial assessment. No offense. Just giving feedback.

I'll be honest and say that I haven't read the entire original post, but I think there may be some factors in your ranking that aren't really that important or are more important than you're giving them credit for.. For example... Why does audible range of a weapon impact the rank? If you're in a gun fight with someone, they're going to hear your weapon no matter what you're using (unless you're firing a mosin from >400 meters and headshot them... then they die before they hear the boom.)... The sound engine in this game is currently really screwy. I can stand right next to someone and sometimes I won't hear them shoot ANY weapon. Other times you can hear people shooting any weapon from across a valley/town/airfield. Magazine rarity is a big deal when it comes to starter weapons.. The SKS, Blaze, Repeater, Shotguns, and Mosin have huge advantages for me over the Sporter, CZ, and various pistols simply for the fact that you only need Gun + Ammo.. Ofc at higher levels (M4/AK), they all need mags. But I'm not going to carry a useless Sporter across the map looking for a mag while I pass by useful SKS's and Blaze's. However, I might do that for an AK or M4 because they are definitely superior. As to the dexterity vs dispersion.. I'm not up to date on the dispersion changes of the M4, so I'm basing my opinions on when the dispersion of the M4 was horrible.. But just as a thought experiment Dexterity only affects you at extremely close ranges. Dispersion only affects you (according to you), at longer ranges. In my experience, most encounters that I get into start between 200-400 meters, sometimes more.. If I can pick off a target RELIABLY at 400 meters, then the dexterity of my weapon is a non-issue. Thus, I put accuracy as a higher priority than dexterity. Futhermore, Sawed off Shotguns, Pistols, and SMG's can all be fit in your inventory and all of them have high dexterity values.. I have nearly 1000 hours experience in SA, and I have probably a dozen kills with the Blase95, and maybe 2-3 with the Sporter. And I have no "bias" against any weapon, really. If I pick it up and have ammo for it I'll use it.

Most encounters in DayZ start out between 200-400 meters, assuming you aren't running around or camping buildings in Elektro/Cherno. CQB is nearly useless in my eyes. I can't think of a single time I've said "Wow I would have killed that guy if only I could have turned faster", but there have been plenty of instances where I've said "Wow, if the shots actually hit where I am aiming my crosshair I would have killed that guy." The sporter has limited range and it requires a magazine to be useful AT ALL. The blaze requires no magazine, is easy to find, and does more damage up front than most (if not all) weapons in the game. Not to mention it has probably about 300 meters more effective range than the sporter. Mosin ammo is also abundant... If you and I come across one another and you start firing at me with a Sporter, and I start firing at you with a Blaze, assuming our first shots hit center mass... who wins? I do. Look, if you PREFER the sporter, that's your choice.. I'm not going to convince you that YOU don't like the sporter.. But that's just YOUR opinion. It's not based on facts, it's based on preference and that is dependent upon your play-style. To me you sound like someone who generally PVP's in cities. I don't. Your argument that the sporter is still effective on a headshot is based on an assumption - That you have found a magazine capable of carrying 30 rounds and that you can actually score a headshot before you're unconscious/dead. 1 hit from a Blaze and you're unconscious/dead. All I have to do is point and click at center mass.
-
Mhm.. The blaze is 2 7.62 rounds instantaneously ... I'd call it a low mid-tier weapon, with all of the automatic assault rifles being "top tier".. My top tier, in order: M4 AKM AK101 AK74 SKS Mosin 2nd tier Mp5 AK74 AK74u Repeater Blaze 3rd tier Pump ShotgunSawed off Shotgun Double Barrel Sporter CZ 4th tier FNX Magnum Sawed off Mosin All other pistols Bow Crossbow
-
Yes.. The engines are similar enough that things like that operate pretty much the same way.. (As far as I know, I'm no coder). If you have a lot of people, action, movement, and items in your "network bubble", you'll get a lot of desync and it can create....unpredictable results.
-
No. No. and No.. M4 is good, yes.. but don't put the CQB on it.. Magpul all the way. You over-rate the sporter and under-rate the Blaze and other weapons. Blaze > Sporter in the hands of a player who actually hits their shots.
-
I experience things like this a lot in Arma III, and in Arma II DayZ Mod..Vehicles and players are not always in the exact same spot for everyone at the same time.. You'll notice it a lot in Arma when you drive towards a parked vehicle at a high speed, you'll see the vehicle "move" and adjust its position and it can trick you into thinking there is someone in it, when in reality the vehicle has always been in that spot, it just wasn't reporting that spot to you accurately when you were at distance.. It can happen at closer ranges too depending on how much desync there is.. Vehicles and lots of players in a small area tend to create a lot of desync.

If it is a matter of building a camp I would personally try one of the towns to the north of lopatino (west or north west of nwaf) There are a lot of little towns in that area and some of them are sure to have green houses, and you'll generally be safer from random passerby's.
