Am I going about the Hero, "Friendly" thing wrong? Or did I just run into dicks? You decide...
Etherimp replied to fingerbblast's topic in Gallery
You're going about it wrong in so many ways. There are only 3 ways for contact to happen 1. Equal footing. Both players/groups are on equal ground (no advantage in numbers, position, or firepower). They recognize equality and begin speaking. 2. You have advantage. Their guns go away or they die. Once their gun is away you relocate to a position which favors you and you can begin talking. 3. Other player has advantage. Your choice is to try to run, try to fight, or trust them and put away your weapon and try to talk. You were not in control of the situation and that's why you got shot. Actions speak louder than words. Saying "friendly" means nothing. You cannot approach a group of players as a solo and ASK them if they are friendly. Their words don't mean shit and you are at a disadvantage so if even 1 of them decides to shoot you, you're toast. Furthermore, you're going to the wrong place to find friendlies. And you're looking to the wrong people. Why you gonna ask already geared players if they want more gear? Besides, they have a group with guns. They can get gear themselves. And you're dressed wrong. Helmets are almost as untrustworthy as payday masks. Camo gear is milsim and helmets are PvP utility. Try a baseball cap and a wool coat. No mask no glasses. Anything that covers your face increases odds of you being shot on sight. -
Dalek, Kossuth and I are on the road to Moscow, and we come across a disgruntled ol' zombie, not even bothering to do zombie things like "URRR!" "AHHHH", and *SCRATCH*

In-depth guide for GFX Settings, FOV, Mouse Sensitivity, and Controls.
Etherimp posted a topic in New Player Discussion
This will be the first in a series of tutorial videos covering all aspects of DayZ from preparing yourself for success, to surviving and thriving as a lone wolf or in large groups. Whether you're a hardened Vet from the mod, or you've just picked up the game, this series will walk you through the process of surviving, step by step, allowing you to take on anything DayZ can throw at you. In the opening chapter, I do an in depth overview of the entire main menu, graphics settings, mouse sensitivity, a demonstration of the practical effects of FOV and Object Detail, and much much more. Keep in mind, this video is long and while much of it may be common sense or well known to veteran players, it will give new players everything they need to know to get started BEFORE they ever log into a server. It also contains a few very important tidbits that even experienced players could learn from. There is an entire time-stamp index to jump to points of interest in the video if you view the description. Hope this helps some people. -

Grind? It takes me 20 - 40 minutes to get about 85% geared.. I consider 85% geared 1. Hunting backpack 2. Weapon w/ Ammo 3. 6 slot pants, 4 slot shirt, 6-8 slot Vest, hat, boots, gloves 4. Melee weapon (Splitting axe or Fireaxe) 5. Pistol The only times I have to really hunt for gear is if I am trying to kit out an AKM/M4.

LOLLL.. You're a funny little feller.

Hey, Ruthless Bandit of DayZ, go to NWAF or Veresnik.. We'll happily accept your camping ways 'round those parts.
-
The only problem I had with barricades/road blocks was when they would randomly appear right under you right after you slammed into them, blowing out your front 2 tires and damaging your engine... Hate desync. :\

I agree... The speed increase from mod -> standalone is noticeable when you swap back and forth. I'd say it's around 1.5x faster to travel in SA than in the mod (on foot).. When vehicles are in, hopefully the run speed gets nerfed a bit. Also, the mod had stuff blocking roads... there's none of that in SA currently, but I'm assuming once vehicles get added back in they will throw the junk back on the roads to make transport more difficult. I think Heli's (if they will be in) are still a ways off. Also, vehicles, while fast, attract attention and cost a lot of time/resources to procure, and only a few groups per server may even have access to them.. Good luck driving from Balota to NWAF without having your tires shot out on a full server. Even better luck procuring a vehicle, keeping it in running condition, and hiding it for more than 24 hours on a relatively populated server.

I dunno what you are all on about, because I run into people everywhere I go. From highest to lowest: Berezino > Svet > Novo > NWAF > Balota > Veresnik > Stary/Novy > Elektro > Vybor > Zeleno/Green Mnt > Kamenka Mil Base Conclusion: Low risk Medium to high reward loot at Kamenka Mil Base. Some of the middle ones may be mixed up depending on server.. Like, Elektro may be more popular on certain days/servers than others, but generally this has been my experience.

Not pure bullshit. Accurate about 80-90% of the time. The way you dress in game *probably* reflects your playstyle.

This exactly.

This is why you always press "ESC" before ALT-TABing
Etherimp replied to Etherimp's topic in Gallery
I think some of you MAYYY be acting a little too critical. It's an obvious but stupid mistake, and I'm aware of it.. That's why it's funny/entertaining. It's something a lot of people can relate to, as all of us are human and humans make stupid mistakes. Of course you know where your coffee table is and that you should not slam your big toe into it... That's why you feel like such a dumbass when you stub your toe, and that's what makes it funny to others. -

I generally try to avoid it, but sometimes it's unavoidable.. especially when you're in a large group, you haven't yet set up a parameter to cover all angles, and you're in the process of getting situated (as is the case here.) -
This is the first installment of a DayZ series I'm doing entitled "DayZ Shorts", where I showcase small, fast, and hopefully entertaining bits of gameplay that just wouldn't fit into a larger platform. Let me know if you enjoy this and want to see more of these. I'll post a couple over the next few days and will continue if I get a good reception. In this clip, I approach Veresnik military base to find some much needed gear and I find a camper hiding in the back of the barracks. Jackpot! He already looted it for me! :D

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. I was thinking of doing some VO for it but thought first I'd just try to do something very short and straight-forward.. But yeah it may be more interesting if I walk through my thoughts and set up the scene a bit. Think that would make it better?

Killshot and I play baseball with a squeeker, Bearhound and I hunt some hunters, then the entire squad assaults Veresnik military base and I take one for the team.

Firstly, apologies for my last post being completely incomprehensible due to formatting issues.. Secondly, I can't believe you're actually suggesting firing more rounds is somehow preferred/superior. And finally, I STILL don't see where I attacked you personally.. Maybe you could just save us all of the trouble and quote exactly how I attacked you. No. Just no. And it still has nothing to do with the fucking MOVEMENT OR GUNPLAY.
-
I reread my post a few times and still can't figure out where I attacked you personally, you illiterate twat. There, now I attacked you personally.

We aren't talking about 200 meter shots here... We're talking about 10-20 meters down a hallway. Example: Standing at exit of barracks, strafing to the side to fire into the barracks, and strafing back. . . Or, standing outside of the Jail, strafing out, strafing back. Of course it should not be done instantaneously, but in its current state, the game MAY send you randomly stumbling across the entire width of the doorway all at once (or it may not..), then you have your entire upper body wobble for an full second before being able to regain your balance. Do me a favor, go pick up an object you have laying around your house that is about gun sized, and try strafing around the corner of your hallway and you tell me if your whole upper body wobbles for a full second right when you stop. If it does, you may require a breast reduction and some work on your inner ear because your equilibrium is off. Once again, nobody is suggesting you be able to pull off 360 no-scopes whilst bunny-hopping from 200 meters... ...we're just asking for smooth and responsive controls/mechanics. Stop blindly defending DayZ.. Yeah, it's good.. It's fun, but it's far from fucking perfect. The fact that you defend the movement and gunplay saying that they're fine is disturbing. I'm pretty sure everyone who actually plays this game including Dean and the Dev team realize both of those aspects of the game need some serious work..

You have your people mixed up... You didn't quote what I said. You quoted what SoulFirez said ABOUT me, calling me a forum warrior. Hence why I responded to it.
-
In a discussion where experience with shooters is relevant, it's relevant to bring up experience with shooters.. This doesn't make someone a "forum warrior", and I can easily prove I'm not full of shit.
-
I haven't said anything to the contrary... I enjoy the tactical approach, but do not appreciate the lag/clunkiness/etc. This goes for player actions as well such as the "oh look I pulled my weapon out and now I'm putting it back away!" I will summarize my position in 2 words: Reponsive, intuitive. As long as those 2 factors are there, I'm not rallying for arcade-like mechanics.
