Nobody said or suggested DayZ is a driving simulator. Let me say this again: MOST GAMES THAT HAVE VEHICLES ALLOW YOU TO GO 3rd PERSON BECAUSE PCS CANNOT PROPERLY SIMULATE HUMAN SIGHT/VISION. Arma = 3rd person. DayZ mod = 3rd person Battlefield = 3rd person in vehicles None of those games are driving simulators and all 3 have 3rd person as an option for a reason. Furthermore I'm not sure how long you've played DayZ or been around this community but one of the biggest issues that the community nags the dev team about is vehicles. When we getting vehicles? Where's the vehicles? When can we expect them? Can we at least get a bike? So while you may not see vehicles as a priority or even a focus of the game, I'd say a good majority of the community feels differently.

Please explain why bf3, GTA, and most driving simulators and racing games allow you to go 3rd person?Simple - PCs and gaming consoles cannot properly simulate human vision. You may have driven in 1st person but if you honestly prefer it that way then you're in a very small minority. For the record, I'd be fine with dayz going completely 1st person on ALL servers, as long as they allow us to toggle to 3rd when driving.
-
Simple fact of the matter is that driving vehicles in first person is fucking painful. That's why BF3 allowed you to switch to 3rd person while in vehicles. That's the same reason grand theft auto is 3rd person. Mark my words, when vehicles are released this whole bias against 3pp is going to evaporate real quick and hardcore servers are gonna die.

People who cry about 3rd person are usually the noobs actually. I play on hardcore as well, and am doing a new series on my YouTube for hard core play. But this whole attitude that only noobs play 3rd person has got to go. My choice or preference in 3rd or 1st person does not make me a good or bad player. When you've won money in LAN tournaments and competed against the best FPS players in the world, then you can call me bad. Until then, I'll wreck you no matter what camera perspective you want to use.

A few facts: -The Original DayZ mod was "Softcore" -When they add vehicles, the majority of this community that went to Hardcore, is going back to Softcore. Never watched much of Sacriel but from what I have seen he usually travels with a group of players, where-as Smak is usually alone.. Sacriel is also more of a bandit, where Smak usually tries to talk to people.. I'm not trying to be a Smak fanboi here, just be honest.. he's literally the ONLY streamer that I can stand watching and one of the few who's youtube videos I am actually impressed by. That, and he's as nice as they come.

A medic still needs to understand and put into practice some fundamental skills of not getting shot in the face. *I* never equated "being good" to being a good shot. You did that. There are a lot of factors which go into being a good DayZ player, which is what separates it from most FPS games.

Did you watch the video I posted of me firing a mosin from the hip at ~100 meters?
-
No. But that helps.. Do you really wanna know, or you trollin'? Cause it seems like you trollin'.

No highscores. No ranks. No proof beyond the fact that you never saw them coming, but they had you pegged from the start. (Alternatively: Go watch http://www.twitch.tv/xsmak .. Smak is probably one of the few twitch streamers and youtubers I would consider "Good Dayz players") Click the Spoiler for his youtube channel.. go watch a few videos. That's a good player.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

The job of a great leader is to hire, train, and listen to the advice of people who understand limitations, time-frames, marketing, and who knows. As already stated by a mod on these forums - Dean is not the top dog. He is just the "lead" on a "project". He has people to answer to and his job is to translate his dream into a reality. BI saw the potential for the DayZ franchise and they wanted to enable Dean to make his vision come to life. He needs to be in charge CREATIVELY. He gives direction. He gives ideas. He gives suggestions. I'm sure the buck does not STOP at Dean. Because he is the CREATIVE lead does not mean he handles marketing.. in fact it would be insane for anyone to assume he should have to do both. To my knowledge he doesn't have a degree in marketing. I'm sure BI has their own marketing team. And with that being said, this thread has run it's course because there's really nothing you can argue from there. -
Because if you have the drop on someone, then they die if they "take aim". Also, good players will observe you and make sure you aren't traveling in a group before approaching you. Annnd, good players will usually wait until you're boxed in and have no way to retreat/escape before approaching you. If you have no escape, and they have "the drop" on you, then your only options are to talk, or die.

This thread is just another echo chamber of a bunch of ignorant people spewing conjecture and opinions. I am more inclined to side with the tolerant and patient folks who understand that Dean isn't going to completely detach himself from the project - He's just going back home. In the age of the internet where everyone has twitter, email, text messages, video conferencing, youtube, and all forms of other media to get work done and make announcements and plans there's no reason to believe what-so-ever that him returning to his family is going to stop him from being an active member (even leader) of the coding team. He can write code and transfer it to his associates... that's not difficult to do. He can video conference with them and have meetings on a daily basis if they need to.. Just because he's going back to his family doesn't mean he can't be involved. As to his leadership - What the fuck do any of you know about his leadership potential? It's easy to sit back behind your computer and watch the development of a game that you play every day and criticize the "direction of development" because you aren't happy with being killed by a hacker, or hit by a glitchy zombie, or having your weapon disappear. Meanwhile the forest is growing around you and you can't see it through the trees. You sit here and throw insults and judgments at a man you've never met. You've never shook his hand. You've never looked him in the eyes. You don't know him - so don't judge him. Criticize the faults with the game, not the man behind it. It's his passion, I am sure he wants it to be amazing more than you could ever imagine. Get your heads out of your asses.. You sound like a bunch of petulant children.- 284 replies

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

Last I heard you only had about 100 hours played yet you have over 4100 posts on these forums. Way I see it is... how can you scrutinize, defend, or give your educated opinions on a product that you have hardly played? If free time is your problem, spend less time on forums and fapping to pictures of guns. -
See, this is exactly what I am talking about. NO.. and NO. This is what was said: -I have heard a youtuber say that "The wipe is coming at patch .49" -I have seen threads all over these forums and on reddit insinuating that the wipe would be sometime this week. -Some of my friends (and others I have witnessed from youtube/reddit/forums) have stopped playing "until the wipe"... WHERE in that quote do you see that he specifies when the wipe will happen? The wipe could be another month or two off.. I'm not saying it is.. I'm just saying it COULD be.. The post never specifies WHEN the wipe will come, only that it will come once they address those issues. That's exactly what people need to stop doing - Stop reading more into things than actually was said, and stop assuming, and stop spreading false information, and stop over-reacting to when something is announced AND CHECK YOUR SOURCES. (Not saying you did those things.. just pointing out something very frustrating about this community. It's a fucking echo chamber.)

I never said anything about people who "Declare" themselves as friendly.. people who say "FRIENDLY!" are usually worth shooting, or at least being suspicious of. I mean, if someone has the drop on you and has an advantage and decides to talk to you instead of shoot you in the back, they're usually trustworthy UNLESS you can hear in their voice that they are about to handcuff you and feed you rotten fruit... which, btw I have NEVER had done to me. Only once has someone tried to handcuff me supposedly to check for weapons, when I was clearly more or less a fresh spawn (I had a backpack and an axe).. I just run away from them and their aim sucked so they couldn't kill me. I got away without a scratch.

Alert the media... They're testing 64 players... (PS: That doesn't mean servers are going to become 64 player, btw.)
-
I think he's saying that this community has a habit of going out of fucking control with rumors every time something happens with this game. People are convinced that characters are getting wiped this Wednesday, even though that's never been officially announced. Then when it doesn't happen people are gonna freak out and be like "OMG WHAT DOES IT MEAN DOUBLE RAINBOW ACROSS THE SKY ALL THE WAY?"
-
If someone tries to talk to you, odds are they are friendly.. You can tell the shit heads by how they talk.
-
If you switch between "ADS" and "hud DOT" while fixed on a location (like say, a point between 2 lines on a door), and you fire at both, you can see theres an obvious difference between the two.

Central US (Or anywhere in the US where I can get under 120 ping. I live in AZ.) 4-6 hour Uptime. Full Day/Night Cycle in 4-6 hour period Hardcore (1pp locked) And importantly - POPULATED! (Not necessarily 40/40, but >20 would be nice.) If you know of this server, or you are a server owner who is willing to make some changes, I will make your server my home and the home of all my buddies.

There's not Pinpoint accuracy on the HUD Dot. Go test it. Your shots land down and to the right of the hud dot, and it's not representative of where your gun is aiming, only where you are actually looking.

Better than being turned into a corpse.

Good. :) I can go back to defending the Zelenogorsk area against intruders.

Think about a realistic scenario where you're holding ... say, a shotgun.. Or a handgun like a glock 9mm.. If I am standing behind a doorway in my house, aiming down a corridor waiting for someone to come through a door, I will likely be aiming down sights, as I know exactly where to expect someone and I do not need any peripheral vision. My shot will be as accurate as possible. If, however, I am moving through a large warehouse, and it's possible that someone could be behind any corner/wall/object, I will probably be holding my gun up at shoulder/chest level, aiming my gun where-ever my eyes go, and reflexively firing when I see someone. Yes, I sacrifice a bit of accuracy but I am maintaining a greater field of view and allowing my eyes to see more around me. If someone does appear, and I fire, and miss, I have at least suppressed them, and they (presumably) would move back behind cover, at which point I could look down sights and train the barrel towards where I expect them to be next. This is essentially how I play in DayZ and I think it feels the most natural. I have a video which demonstrates this well with a Mosin.. My friend and I get in a fire-fight in the middle of an intersection, and I have a LRS attached to my mosin. I use "hip fire" 2-3 times just to take snap-shots at our enemies. I can't say whether any hit or not, or if it was worth doing.. I just know it's what felt right to do in that moment. Watch about the first 2-3 minutes of that video.

Expect glitchers and hackers in any server that advertises a "safe zone".. They see it as a challenge/easy griefing.
